However when I right click on the guy it doesn't give me any options for learning new recipes. My LW is 180 and wowhead guide says I can learn at 175. not really but dying isnt uncommon at all
could be because of a few things
like if youre dual weilding or not, getting the right abilities and using them well, fighting mobs too hard or ones that are in a cluster

the simplest to level is shaman
every class is useful in raids, some are more common but if a class isnt super common in raids, they have their own other upsides
but its best to try out all 3 and stick with which you prefer the most imo, since levelling takes a long time and youll have time to learn your class
shaman has some amazing buffs and are solid healers so some are always wanted,
druids can do everything but are mazing at nothing, super flexible while levelling and in pvp have a high skillcap
rogues do amazing DPS and are great in 1v1 duels, but are also played a lot so there is competition
pretty sure thats against TOS and server rules jeffy

for raids its almost always just ran as a healer since warriors are often just better tanks for raids, but you can tank/heal/even dps in cat form throughout dungeons

@grand thunder theoretically you could level through dungeons in classic but you would def still need you class quests and all attunement areas done. It will also be slower than questing

retail just refers to wow in it's current modern state
classic is a rerelease of a patch from before wow had any expansions, which was basically 15 years ago
you can try a bit of current wow for free, and then classic needs you to be subscribed

The folder that WoW is saved to on your computer has a few sub folders, _retail is the current game. Then there is one with PTR, one with classic and one that is classic PTR, if you have all those installed. The base running of the game is the same, so the change was made in order to save some space on people's computers.

Classic WoW is based on patch 1.12, but renumbered to 1.13, which was basically the last major patch before the 1st expansion, Burning Crusade, launched.
Much content was released over the series of patches before hand back in the day, so they've just simply "locked" said content in phases.
They couldn't make Classic based on any earlier patch, because they said they couldn't find anything pre-1.12 in any whole usable form.

@maiden river paladin tanks don't have a taunt ability or a way to keep up good threat, as well as too little good tanking gear, and so basically can't raid in Classic, but can tank dungeons just fine. Druid can be taken as an off tank raids if you're good and I think is a bit better in dungeons
@radiant bramble the biggest difference between races is their abilities in classic - they don't matter if you're playing casually but more dedicated or minmax players don't play some class race combinations
It's best imo to just play what you prefer

one set heirloom would work well for only two of the classes 4 specialisations since they use different stats
one works for feral and guardian druid (cat and bear forms) and the other set for restoration and balance (giant chicken and normal healer form)

Both are great and there are a lot of pros and cons for each, i'd give both a go since it's hard to really compare them
Imo retail looks nicer, has better raids/dungeons and a lot more flexibility/customisation

You could think of it as the base game, but because you can't go back to vanilla in retail, it technically doesn't exist anymore.
I play Sims 4, and it's possible to play only the base game content without any extra content, so in that context it's correct.

WLK = Wrath of the Lich King. The 2nd expansion that covered Northrend-centric content.
When CATA came out, it removed some major/epic quest lines and content from Vanilla and WLK.
They were removed for the sake for story progression, but the community didn't take well to that the old content was no longer accessible.
Hence the existence of Classic.

That's as far as that progression with Classic has gotten, beyond the phased stages.
Classic runs on patch 1.12, but renumbered as 1.13.
And the content has been unlocked in stages, as opposed to how they were originally done so via patches.
It runs on 1.12 because the Devs said that that was the earliest patch they could find in its complete playable form.

Grinding can involve getting a certain type of item drop, which may or may not arbitrarily have a low drop rate. Some grinding are meant to immerse you into the game, as means of "thinning the herd" of a certain mob type, based on the story that the quest is telling you.

There can also be grinding where you need to get through a gauntlet of a mob type to reach a certain landmark. Some people are able to bypass the grind based on their class's skillset, but that's just how it is.

it's hard to compare them imo so i'll list some ups and downs of each from what i've experienced playing both

Classic
Ups: flavourful mechanics (e.g hunters feed pets, carry ammo and have an iconic quest for their legendary bow), the game rewards being social and you recognise people on your server, classes have roles only they can fulfil and are a lot more defined, gearing/levelling tends to feel more rewarding
Downs: the game is grindier and levelling to 60 takes several days of gametime, in pve some classes have boring rotations or are overshadowed by other classes, there are fewer quality of life features, and while its still immersive and holds up, retails art and music is miles better, undead rogues
Retail
Ups: the best raids/dungeons of any mmo, lots of customisation/collectibles, gameplay is more involved and takes less time to unlock, there are a lot of different things you can spend your time on, the game looks/sounds fantastic
Downs: classes are homogenised (e.g fewer interesting mechanics/anyone can do most things) there are too many throwaway systems, dailies play a big role, you can pay to be carried through content and buy gear, levelling is currently messy, vulpera

i think mage needs a bit more effort to really speed level since it involves aoe grinding at the right spots, whereas hunters are just pretty mobile and good and soloing harder mobs
both are quick so I think a better question is would you rather have high dps but a 1 button rotation in raiding, or mid-low dps but a fun rotation with roles like kiting?

Depends on what you are looking for in an MMORPG. People will help you out, if you aren't a butthead and things like that. It is really grindy to level in, but once you get to max level things slow down a bit as far as what you need. It will take a while to get up there though and going into the wrong area early could get you killed for sure.

The wow classic endgame experience is raiding, world pvp/battlegrounds, or gold making basically - it's enough for people like me, but if you want to get into collecting, retail is better
In classic pvp plays a bigger role than in retail, imo it's a bit less complex than retail pvp but still has a lot of depth, and some matchups are very fun/skill intensive

hunters in classic are easy to be decent at but imo are one of the hardest classes to master, and what I play
theyre also one of the best levellers, their only downsides being they lost most of their damage in later content, and uou have to carry weapon ammo/take care of your pet

hunters need an autoshot timer, basically every second or 2 when using a bow you autoshoot, and the trick is to move and use other abilities so you dont clip your autoshot and lose damage

i like the dps role. i play other games, so my commitment isnt as high as i would like to say to commit to being a tank or healer since those are two crucial roles for the raids.

hunter dps drops off during 60-endgame content, but they make up for it by being able to kite and having some useful utilities like being able to CC mobs/some boss mechanics
so if youre looking for dps and smooth levelling you cant go wrong

yeah, theyre normally sold on the auctionhouse, but unless you're a warrior/at 60 it's never really worth it
theyre mostly only used for tryharding in pvp and in the rotation of classes like hunter

@glad elm i'd suggest anything but a warrior or paladin, they arent bad classes but theyre easily the most unpleasant to level
every class has its niche that only it can perform so you might want to look up the strengths and weaknesses of the ones you think are cool
there are sometimes best races for either pve or pvp in some cases but the differences arent big

As far as faction/race/class/profession is concerned, ultimately it's up to you. There can be "recommended" combos for class/profession, as often the profession can benefit the class, but it's all up to what YOU want out of it.
For rogue, you could do skinning and leatherwork, or mining and engineering, all the things.
Some people do it to benefit their class, or their guild, others do it purely to make money where they can work out the economy of it.

That is true but I'm finding the same kind of players that I try to avoid on retail. I thought classic wow players would be more patient with people in dungeon groups but they're as toxic as retail mythic plus players

Toxicity, despite how much none of us want it or want to deal with it, is an unfortunate reality. WoW, whether retail or classic, is not the only platform.

I havent met a single toxic m+ player so far tbh, and felt that classic players were a lot nicer than retail pugs in my experience
i feel like unless youre unlucky and meet assholes, noone in classic is remotely toxic unless youre being unconsiderate
