Hi, I like the charts of the races distribution for each class on the leveling guides. I would like tho if it's possible to also see it the other way around, to see what are the most popular classes for each race: chart of the classes distribution for each race. Such info would be really beneficial in the choice at the character creation since some races are the most popular for every class (Human, Blood Elf...) and knowing what is the least/most favourite class in those races would help in that process. That said thanks for all the work u do!

@celest creek That's how comment reply voting has always worked. It's not perfect or anything, I agree, and ideally it'd work like parent comments, but it's not worth the effort right now. If you voted the wrong way and want that vote cancelled out, you can let me know via feedback@wowhead.com.

That's a bug in the GPU driver on your phone, you can try a different browser to see if it interacts with the GPU differently, but other than making sure you are on the latest update for your phone there likely isn't anything you can do.

It depends on your browser and various other variables. There is a video ad that auto-plays, with no sound, your phone could be interrupting other media as a result.

There's no one specific reason, but for me personally it's easier for me to export all the replies/entries via Twitter's API then other areas and randomly select winners. Blizzard requires us to have some sort of engagement beyond just click this, follow this, and doing that on Discord isn't very easy (and I've already tried but far too many people don't read instructions).
Unrelated really but thought I'd comment: the last time we used Gleam was in February. We've only used it twice this year.

Well I ping everyone in Discord to notify them of any giveaway we're running, regardless of the platform. This is a community for Wowhead.com, our Discord server is part of the site and an extension of our social media outlets. We also notify everyone on Facebook and Twitter when we have a giveaway here on Discord. To us, it's all related. Not everyone on Twitter/Facebook is going to come to Discord either but we have to think of the entire audience.

For me the difference is, if I see a post of yours on facebook, it's on my timeline. I don't get a notification on my notification bar that you updated to say "there is a giveaway...somewhere else". But when you ping everyone here, I do get a red notification. if that makes sense 🤔
Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining per se, and I don't really mind much one way or another. Just point out that they're not really the same because of the direct red-mark notification involved. You gotta advertise 'em however you see fit 🙂

Hey @tawny blade are you sure that the last artwork in the artbook is about the Tower of the Unseen Guests? It looks more like a Maw structure to me, especially the environment (all jagged etc. just like the Maw's environment). The tower also has 2 prongs at the top, and the architecture is just very similar to Maw/Jailer architecture (whereas Revendreth is more normal, human gothic style). Maybe it was early art for Torghast, or the Maw before it became the Maw.

I use the uBlock Origin extension in chrome and apparently they've done some sort of update the past 24 hours and I'm not the only one having issues like this

@shut echo had the same problem. Was also affecting other things like Gmail. I tried everything. Was able to use wowhead and gmail in incognito mode in Chrome, and Edge worked fine, but not Chrome in regular mode. Reinstalled and everything.
Turned out, when I was clearing my cache, I was NOT clearing my passwords because it's annoying AF to input them all again. Once I cleared my passwords, everything worked fine.
However, caveat: I suspect (this is anecdotal, so take it with a grain of salt) that there is a security fault in uBlock -- after I cleared my passwords and reinput a few of them, I got notified of security breaches. (I haven't had this problem for years, I'm super careful) Someone from India tried to log into several of my social media accounts and someone in another state tried to log into my gmail. Maybe the issue is unrelated. Either way, fully clearing my cache including saved passwords was the only thing that fixed it.
Or like I said, incognito should still work.

I'm using react with a search bar so the user can look up their character, and any items that are shown on the page after the initial page load don't get their icon

Because react doesn't reload the entire page it just re-renders certain parts or whatever it seems like the script isn't picking up any new tooltips I pass to it after the page has done it's initial load

@tired rampart Blizzard's API hasn't been updating off and on since the patch. It's likely the issue here but include the character name, region and realm, as well as an example of what's incorrect, we'll take a look.

I don't know if you've already noticed but previous Boost tokens are more advantageous now with 9.0.
The BFA token now boosts to lvl 48 which would correspond to the old lvl 116-117, while it used to boost to lvl 110.

not sure if this goes here or not but since the pre patch hit ive noticed the wowhead looter addon where when you mouseover an npc or object it used to say what the name and ID number was that little tooltip had a tooltip like appearance but now it seems it no longer has the background effect and is only the text itself. so its sometimes hard to read depending on where you have it placed on your screen.
this intentional or is it in plan to be updated for prepatch?

the level range on the sidebar is the one recommended by blizzard, the one outside chromie, and a part of the page we cannot edit since it is extracted directly from the game files.
and yeah unless in very specific cases (I think only Seat of the Triumvirate in Legion), if an instance is marked as a single level, it's a raid 🙂 use the instances/dungeons page linked by Anshlun to see level ranges for dungeons

And its description mentions recent events, plus the name is "Warchief Thrall", implying he'll become Warchief again soon,. Or perhaps this is a weird mix & match or an alternate universe or something else.

Knowing they're going in for a delay and that 27th was not going to be the actual launch.. it's odd that the ads were "pushed up" to the date at which the expac would have came out
It seems more intentional that they did expect to go ahead and put the prepatch stuff live w/ the date that would have been launch than just a "remnant" because any remnants you'd expect to have occurred much earlier than when the game was going to launch

Hi everyone, this might be a stupid question but maybe someone could help me 🙂 I'm a registered user on wowhead, have been premium several times in the past, and I originate from Germany. Regardless of country, I play WoW in english and usually use wowhead in english as well. But regardless of how often I set the language to english, when ever I return to the page it defaults to German, even though I'm fully logged in. Now my question:
Is there any way to set my language permantely to english, either in account or somehow on the page, so it doesn't default to German all the time :D

@slender notch our site doesn't force a language on anyone. Everything is English by default. The only way you get German is if you visit a link with "de" in the subdomain. My guess would be you're most often getting to our site via a search engine, and that is probably assuming your language based on your search settings or location. Visit our site directly and use our site's search bar to avoid that issue or consider modifying your search engine preferences.

I understand. Wasn't seeing it as a complaint. There's just no need for a language setting. It's entirely based on the URL. Just like all the languages and the versions of the game (ptr, beta, classic). You won't see non-English as long as you stay on the www site. Based on your explanation it seems like it's a search engine, which we don't control. It'd be silly if someone visits a de.wowhead page and it just ignored the language set in the URL and displayed something else instead. Thank you for the feedback!

For example: I'm on Google.com logged into my google account, so yes google knows I'm german. I search for "Lost proto drake spawn location wowhead.com" in englisch and all results I get served a lot of de.wowhead.com links, which is also not that obvious in the search result.
If I follow the first link and it will lead me to "No longer lost in Time: A Time-Lost Proto-Drake Guide", which is completely in english except Item hotlinks, they are in German. or they are just "Item#23847"
So...TLDR:
- I search in Enlisch, with wowhead.com in the search
- The Page preview on Google is in Englisch
- The only hint for German is the Link on top of the Google Page Preview shows a small "de" at the beginning
- Also i have no atlernative search results to choose from in my google search
- Once i land on wowhead, Itemlinks are German or do not work because the are not know ie. "Item#282873"
I doubt this is the wished for experience a user should have, when coming from a search engine or?
Sorry I don't mean to be rude or anything, really not...I'm just confused that the only Option I have to get to an full Englisch Wohead Page as result of coming from a search engine, while not living in a englisch speaking country, is to either "change language settings" every time or change all Google Search results to be in English permanently.

@slender notch You can actually change the settings for this in your search engine. Obviously that's a global setting for all your searches. But google will present you results based on your preferred language. And it's a very simple switch. If you visit google.de it's just one click to swap between English and German.
And a change like you suggest it would also cause some confusion for people like me that use wowhead in 2 languages and navigate very specifically on the de. or www. versions of wowhead.com

In regards to the lack of moderating in retail -
A lot of modding actively happens without involving others within retail. For example today, when that person who was dming Intervencion was reported, it was dealt with a small public warning, then dealt with internally, as with most pings are.

If it's not rule breaking enough to deserve a mod ping, that says it all really. Conversations veer off into off-topic within Discord, and that's fine. We're not going to start cracking down on people having normal conversations. This leads to conversations stopping altogether and promotes an environment where people do not feel welcome to talk about certain subjects within our rules. On the website this is quite different as it's forum based, not instant messaging. The only reason we'd take action here is if it was going on for a significantly long time. Of course, this is different if it is rule breaking, such as NSFW, or politics.

Would it be feasible to bring in a report (discord) bot? Where someone could DM the bot and have it send a message to an internal channel or DM out to the moderators? Doing an @ mod ping, or DMing one of the mods doesn't always work. Sometimes a mod is unavailable/away, no mods are available, or something else. While I feel that it could be abused, it could be looked at and see if it may work. -- I don't partake in discussions on this discord, so I don't know how it normally works when these types of issues arise.
Lastly, could a 'Discord Suggestions' channel be added or this channel be renamed to reflect both the site AND the discord? As currently there is no specific channel for discord issues beyond the PM Spam channel.

Yes, the position of the ad has to do with google's rules. They became especially stringent with video ad placement at the start of 2020. The company that handles video ads, anyclip, has built a player that mixes in snippets of youtube videos/game trailers with the actual ads. This is the format companies prefer that want to sell video ads, as mixing in ads with other content makes the ads more impactful.
Wowhead weekly isn't a review of anything though, it's a news show. Anything that is done in partnership with a company is clearly marked as such if the Wowhead staff generates a profit, such as the afiliate codes on the gear shop post.

Although I’m still not sure I understand how google can force those videos to play at all, since they advertising within them is supposed to be targeting people who actually have interest in the content of the video. It seems to me that it gets into google telling wowhead how their site itself has to function more than how ads have to function. If that is in fact the case, does that mean google owns/controls part of the company itself?

Google does not control or own the company. However Google has various policies that can demonetize a site's content if found in violation so it is best for sites across the internet to follow the recommended practices (some examples - https://support.google.com/adsense/answer/10008391?hl=en)

Most notably the recommendation of the 1% Dodge enchantment for cloak, and the claim that Agility is good because it gives "a good mix of dodge, crit, and armor". I suppose Agility is still the way to go for cats, but for the extra AP, not the dodge and armor. All in all I suspect that you started your DPS guide using the tank one as a template, and published it before updating all sections.

As a bear in top guild i can say that 1% dodge is much more noticeable especially using Arcanum of Protection over the 8 agility especially with guise. As a cat you go agility as usual.

I think the idea was to be as simple as possible and, generally, brackets aren't used in conversation. The more complex the command the less likely people will use it or remember how to use it. Further, making changes now will make it hard to communicate them to the other servers using it. Honestly, would be easier to just deal with it ln the rare occasion it happens, or perhaps send that stuff via DM? Or I could probably ask for a charcter that can be added that would make it ignore it (and you'd add it to the message).

Im currently looking at all of the first soulbinds from each of the covenants, On the Wowhead calculator 3 of them (Kyrian, Night Fae and Venthyr) all have their 4th row unlock at 7 Renown but for Necrolord it unlocks at 9 Renown. I thought that it was changed so everything unlocks at the same time across all Covenants but is that still not the case or is the calculator wrong?

Muting #blizzard-gear-store sadly does not prevent Discord from showing notifications of the 'everyone' mentions used in that channel's posts. The only option we have to get rid of these notifications is to suppress them for the whole server, but I don't want to do that because I don't want to miss the occasional useful 'everyone' mentions about other things that are more important to me.
Would you consider making a role we can use to hide the gear store channel? Or create an alternative role to 'everyone' that people can opt in to? Or preferably consider not using the 'everyone' role for this purpose? I think the last option would be the best as I suspect many people feel like the feature should not be used to draw attention to items on Blizzard's gear store.

Unfortunately that doesn't cover everyone or here mentions. I've had notifications set to nothing and the channel muted for some time.

I bet there is a way to achieve that behavior. I bet you could suppress everyone globally and then enable mentions on all channels that you think are worthy following.

No I'm afraid not. None of the per-channel notification settings can be used to allow everyone and here mentions after they've been suppressed.

Hi all! I have a wowhead specific question. I loaded my toons and linked my accounts on wowhead. very cool, I can see all my quests!. -- What I would like to do, is have a guide that tells me (perhaps based on achievement) do this quest, then that quest.. and so on. I can see my achievements, I know which one i want to complete. Is this a thing?

So for argument's sake, I loaded it on my work PC, which is using Chrome on Windows 8.1.
Even with adblocker enabled, they loaded fine.

Effect seems to be sporadic. I had 2 local friends try loading the same article, also in Edge, and it works for them.
It looks like the browser is blocking the reddit API.
Uninstalled my adblocker extensions.
It's failing here somehow.
Just be clear how I came by this. Expanding the console showed basic.js involved.
DNS Flush also did nothing.
Anyway, that's all I can be bothered dealing with it.
Might fix itself in due course.

It happens with strict tracker blocking on in edge, loads with either basic or balanced. If you expand the "tracking prevention blocked an XHR request" bit you can see the specific ones for the reddit api https://i.imgur.com/oVNn6dc.png

Have you guys had any issues or known issues with ublock origin and blizz posts on WoWhead?
I turned it off I mean I support WoWhead anyways it's just auto on but I noticed for the longest time the entire page would be blank in the sense you just see the title of the blue post but no body

Hey, not sure if this is the right place to put it, but there is one notable error in the "CurseForge suspending Addon Updates" article: The article states, that curse forge is "now owned by overwolf" which isn't correct and falsely implies, that the very unfortunate timing is caused by overwolf.
This interpretation can also be seen in various comments below the article.
In fact curseforge will be owned by overwolf after the transition mentioned in the update.
So the timeline is actually caused by twitch as the current owner.
this has also been stated by a overwolf staff member in the curseforge discord
maybe it's a good idea to update that article (even though it's already a day old and the damage is probably already done)

For example, the latest article, about the Overwolf/Curseforge delay, was posted like 5-6 times on multiple servers that have the bot

I was having that problem as well, there's a "tracker" from blizzard that was being blocked and as soon as I made an exception for it in ublock origin the blue posts behaved as intended again
I too have it on by default (I'm premium anyway lol) and had to figure it out lol

We're slowly phasing out the long outdated profiler, opting instead to break out the more often used portions into their own tools (mount and pet trackers, quest trackers, character planners etc.) so we're more inclined to just remove those functions rather than fix them (exclude/include). For example, we already recently disabled new custom lists.

its a feature I use a lot in the profiler, so I can easily find what quests are left and exclude stuff that I know I won't or can't do
if quest tracker is going to be its own thing, and it has that feature someday it would be nice

I knew the quest tracker existed for classic but had no idea it existed for retail, you should put a notice on the profiler
using the quest tracker it seems to handle the aldor/scryer stuff and draenor building stuff better than the profiler did, that was the big reason to exclude things

Classic WoW / Map overlays / Map Pins "display" in the wrong location
OK, I used a "contact us" form months ago and never saw any action. Your zoomed in map has an additional 16 pixels at the bottom of the map, which results in map pins being pushed downwards relative to the background map image. You can see the additional space in this screen snip:

Now your source image for the background is indeed 1022px x 668px, but the frame it goes into has a number of elements with width: 1002px
This results in the image being shrunk, and leaving this gap at the bottom, which then throws off the map pins.
(From Firefox Dev Tools) So, see the three "width: 1002px" instances? They need to be changed to "width: 1022px"
And, it's still wrong... wtf
ah, so the first width needs to be 1046px, because child elements then have additional styling rules to fight against your own layout, with one child having 10 padding, and then your .mapper class having a "max-width: calc(100% - 4px);" rule (which just results in an additional four pixels to the right of the map image, so it's not even sitting centred, which I only noticed after finding this css rule)
killing that max-width rule gives you:
And without that rule, the width on lightbox-inner should then be 1042px
