There are lots of good servers for RP.

The single -best- server for walk-up rp is Moon Guard on the Alliance, Stormwind has tons of people at all hours.

Horde RP is active on MG and WRA as well.

WRA Horde is walk-up rp focused a lot of the time. MG Horde is d20 adventures and organized rp events ranging from socials to D20 adventures.

I tried making a new character on Argent Dawn and have never even managed to log in longer than 30 seconds before it kicks me.

Unfortunately, RP on the EU side of things has, for a large part, consolidated on Argent dawn. You might still be able to find guilds and RP on the likes of Moonglade, Steamwheedle Cartel or the Sha'tar, though I can not say for certain.

Moonguard Horde RP tends to be guild and organized event focused, with less random walkup rp than Alliance. As a whole, the single best place in -all- of the game for walk up random RP is MG Stormwind.

Argent Dawn EU and Moon Guard US are a good place to start, though AD is superior for the simple reason that less of the world is made up by the players. That's at least my opinion.

As for why you should join an RP server, well, find your own reason. Having the title of RP server doesn't mean it would shy away from PvE or PvP.

Horde RP on AD is on Sundays typically - but there are discords you can look through for what's going on. Neutral RP happens in Legion Dalaran every Tuesday or so.

RP servers have a lot of, you guessed it, RPers on them - meaning as well as the PvP/PvE content the game gives you, you also have the player-driven content of guilds, events and casual RP throughout cities that's a completely different pace and type of way to play.

I'm one of the last remaining players on Hydraxian Waterlords EU Roleplay realm.
Over the course of ClassicWoW, several FCM transfers OFF the realm have whittled our population down to nothing.
I am the Sect Master of one of the last remaining guilds on the realm.
There is very little opportunity to do PvE Content, and last week I had to put our raids on break due to attrition, and having no one else on the realm to fill raid slots.

Yeah, any character trait that the draenei themselves would see as a "flaw" would get forged out, so you gotta be picky with ones like "nervous" and "shy"

I wouldnt say that Lightforged are complete heartless bastards, but they've been fighting the Burning Legion for thousands of years.

The average Lightforged Draenei has seen some stuff. They would be trained to face any evil head on, without hesitation. They have to be completely devoted to their faith and in physical excellent shape to even survive the Lightforging process

So character traits such as being shy or nervous would be rare, but not completely impossible

We could still use character housing. Almost every mmo has it except wow.

And I know, I know "but garrisons", they were not a replacement for it.
And given how they have instances for garrisons, class halls, and Pandaria farm, there really isn't a reason they can't.
They have the phasing tech.
Housing might cause public rp to suffer mildly (though this isn't a real case in ESO or ff14....), I think it's needed and they still refuse. Or not really refuse, Ian said the poor raiders would have to suffer without a tier set v.v...

But I have no idea why since I imagine the team making gear is not the team behind what they'd use for housing.

Giving housing to rpers doesn't take anything from pvpers or raiders really, they don't have to use it.

quick question, I'm rolling a blood elf for the heritage armor etc, but well I tend to swap genders in game quite a lot to fit a specific mog and the issue I've ran into on some of my toons is that names I pick tend to fit one but not the other, so like I'm trying to find a unisex elven names but can't seem to find anything that fits, I have couple ideas from a list I found online, they're all in Thalassian so it's at least fitting in that regard. Well, I'm an 18 year vet, so aside from some of the newer races that don't have too much lore yet (vulpera being the biggest one in that regard) I'm pretty well acquainted with much of the lore.

I've mained a DK in some fashion since Wrath, originally as a human, then a gnome before going to a fresh account as Horde (long story there). Once there, played as a blood elf, later race changed to vulpera, but then faction changed back to Alliance as a gnome when my previous Horde guild showed an extreme lack of initiative on pretty much everything (about a month before cross faction guilds were announced, but I think I prefer gnome anyway lol)

Likely leaning towards a gnome warrior in RP.

I'd avoid DH/DK for your first RP character, as those are widely regarded as hard to RP, and will get you some strange looks if you characterise them incorrectly.

So Gnome Warr seems perfect :)

You'll likely want to install Total Roleplay 3, as that's the addon most players use for their RP profiles.

And, of course, be on an RP server. Moonguard/Wyrmrest Accord for US, Argent Dawn for EU are the most populus.

Key reason why that's where I'm leaning. The types of characters I generally go for in stuff like D&D wouldn't mesh well with how DKs should generally be portrayed.

Also, general question for everyone: with the advent of cross faction guilds/parties, how has that affected RP as a whole? The character idea I had in mind was a fresh recruit post Fourth War, someone that might actually be less likely to get into faction related nonsense, especially if their first battles in character were as a member of the Dragonscale Expedition.

There's a fairly equal about of faction-specific and faction-agnostic RP. Might be worth checking the RP forums of whichever realm you're interested in to see the specific ratio of faction specific/faction agnostic RP going on.

Typically, random/walkup/casual RP in cities, especially on Alliance, is more accessible, an easier place to start and more common than events (which is where you typically find cross-faction RP.)

Another tip, same as D&D, is to make the most social character possible - giving you as many opportunities to interact with others as possible, since that's where all the fun is!

Warcraft Conquest presents Tempest's Shadow, a narrative, D20, and tabletop wargaming role-play campaign set in the Azure Span. This campaign is one of several set in the Dragon Isles where we supplement the story of the Dragonflight expansion. A Campaign Prequel Event Series will take place on November 11th - November 12th in which players may act as Primalist "red shirt" characters in service to Stratogeth. These events will help set up the story of the Tempest's Shadow campaign!

I just finished the book in 3 days, my head is a mess and I'm really not great with numbers.

From what I can see and the sources given, the only thing we know is that she's more than 20,000 years old as that's roughly how long ago the War of the Scaleborn was. Beyond that, since there doesn't seem to be any mention of her age in so far as the events of the book are concerned.

Oh, I meant at the end of the war. I wanted to get some concrete info on how long it takes for a drake to grow into an adult, since the only info we've previously had was Manual of Monsters, which is most certainly retconned in this book, as she's older than 100 at one point in the book, and still called a drake.

I'd imagine it's not a retcon so much as an oversight. If you take one of the recent expansion novel tie-ins for instance, Genn was repeatedly described to have a tail in his Worgen form which was an admitted oversight that slipped by .

I wouldn't say so - ages and growth stages are quite frequently mentioned in War of the Scaleborn, it's a whole lot.

We first see her as 'one of the other, older whelps', when Vyranoth happens to visit Alexstrasza's newborn clutch, before the war begins.
If the whelp information in the Dragonflight Codex is correct, a whelp turns into a drake at around a decade old, so let's go with, 6 at the youngest, 10-ish at the oldest - that's chapter 4, pages 78-79.

She's a young drake later on in the book, younger than 100 (this is specifically given as a number) - it's also worded in a way as in "most of them have seen fewer than 100 summers" which could mean that either:

A) A drake is young if they're younger than 100.
B) -To- be a drake, one has to be younger than 100.

In chapter 11, and after the attack on Wyrmrest, which is a season later, her brother rebels against the Aspects - she remembers what he did in chapter 20 - she's mentioned to still be a drake at the time, being compared to a friend who's a few years older, who she's afraid would be taken to the front - it's mentioned in the book that at the time, not-fully-grown dragons could not fight on the front, which might suggests she's not that far from adulthood - her older friend mentions he's not an adult yet, either. This makes me believe that option A) was the correct one, earlier.

Further on in the book (chapter 25 and onward), she's not mentioned to be a drake anymore, but "young red" - this suggests she's fully grown.

There are numerous mentions of time in the book, but unfortunately, I'm an idiot and didn't keep track of them. I already have almost 6k characters of notes from the book, I didn't think to keep notes of time, however. ;~;

I don't know why but I always figured that the dragonflights, as magical creatures, developed through their different life cycles dynamically based on the power/maturity of the dragon itself rather than based off of biological development and progression over time like the mortal races.

I don't know why I got the impression though, but perhaps based off of the variance of growth rates and development we see across different dragons over time and why some dragon characters age faster than others or remain drakes for tens of thousands of years.

In Warcraft 3 human campaign, Arthas fought Blackrock orcs before going against undead in the north.
On the WoW map, where approximately were the settlements of these orcs? I doubt he fought them Arathi or further south.

(I'm making a DnD campaign in the Warcraft universe, with the timeline around this time in canon, and I really need these orcs as antagonists - but I don't know where to put them on the map :-) ).

I'm biased but for NA I recommend Wyrmrest Accord. The community is much more tame. Many will likely say Moon Guard first, but imho Moon Guard is more popular for the WoW RP memes than actual WoW RP

My best recommendation? Lurk a bit in roleplay areas on RP servers to get the general vibe first. Pick up the Total Roleplay 3 addon, which allows you to make custom bios and tooltips for your characters while seeing the ones made by others and compare how other people fill them out to get a good idea of what you should do. Finding a guild or community is huge especially. If you want to participate in RP, make sure that you separate OOC (out of character) dialogue from IC (in-character) dialogue--different people have different methods be it just using brackets or parenthesis for OOC text or writing in a more literary or screenplay format. When roleplaying it's also important that when you describe actions you're not being meta with it, as in directly telling other players what their characters are doing or having your character act IC in a way that relies on OOC knowledge they personally wouldn't know as a character.

BIGGEST of all is don't contradict or completely disregard canon. You don't have to be elitist about it, but saying you're Thrall's long-lost brother or are from the Final Fantasy universe or having a backstory that completely goes against or ignores the events of the Warcraft setting is just considered bad form

Yep, works fine. Can be everything from your standard Void priest to a priest of Bwonsamdi or other loa of death or shadows, or a more occult witch doctor and voodoo priest. Keep in mind that the Zandalari have one of the oldest rivalries and exposure to the Old Gods and fought against the Black Empire so some specialist knowledge is retained that way

Background: Grew up in the Druidic ways, until the need for more sentinels arose. He was pressured to become a Hunter. He uses a bow from a friend who was lost in the War of the Thorns.

Features: Scar from Teldrassil burning. Tattoos.

Additional: He uses knowledge from being a Druid for survival to enhance his tactics as a new Hunter. Yup. Basically while the champions were off in the Shadowlands, everyone else was holding the line against the unbound Scourge. Safe to assume there are still pockets of undead running amok

The short answer is no. But you can be creative about hunger. For example, your character might know an alchemist who made a potion that suppresses hunger for 24 hours. The dose must be taken every day and if it is missed the hunger returns stronger. Another option is:
WARNING SENSITIVE TEXT || a ritual that dulls the feeling of hunger through a self inflicted wound. That sacrifice must be repeated daily and over the years it leaves hundreds of scars as the price for keeping hunger at bay. ||

I have some thoughts I'd like to run by someone with lots of knowledge regarding druidic lore, regarding a couple character-related ideas I've had for a while

I suppose I can put it here? It's two separate ideas, tangentially related (because both pertain to druids) but otherwise separate

One idea is... I'm obsessed with mushrooms and fungi, with reasons ranging from "they're charming" to "they're important for the environment, life, etc"; also, as a tree-hugging hippie, I dig living things of all sorts, and that includes the forms of life that do the "dirty jobs"; this is a lot of unnecessary exposition, anyways, druids are all about natural life, yeah? Not just plants and animals; is there a reason to not have a fungal druid? Is there basis for such?

My second idea is that druids seem capable of messing around with unorthodox forms of life-- for example, Druids of the Flame taking form of Firelands creatures (I completely understand they're villains, to be clear, and not exactly what I'm aiming for)-- and I have a thing for swamps and marshes, but I ESPECIALLY have a thing for the Endmire in Revendreth; being Captain Obvious for a sec, I noticed Revendreth has trees and critters; I've thought (for years) about making a druid based on the Endmire, or perhaps the Banewood; I've pondered it plenty, but I'm curious about the opinions and thoughts of those with more experience and/or knowledge; in addition, opinions on what player race would be most suitable for this idea? Perhaps transmog suggestion? But especially thoughts and opinions on the idea itself and its practicality

We also had tempests and thunders, tornadoes...
A lot of aesthetic changed for "consistency" but also to avoid a similarity to the Decay part. However, mushrooms spores were also mentionned as inspiration for the druid to heal, as the flower bloom..
