Hello, when I use the new covers feature, it becomes almost impossible to generate songs with a male voice, even if I specify it in both prompts, I almost always get a female singer. I can brute force it by repeating "male vocalist" multiple times in the prompt and lyrics box, but then the generated voice quality is significantly lower than the female one. I'm generating music in Romanian language btw, maybe it matters. Anyone has this problem? Any ideas?

yes that's exactly what I'm doing, same issue, it's literally impossible now even if I force it, 95% of the gens are female singer, it happens much less often if the lyrics are in English, but in Romanian it's almost impossible when using the covers feature.

I copy pasted the outro as a lead-in in the lyrics, and it started to work.

The cover feature has the audio capped at 3.20min not 4.00, so whatever you try to "remix", basically ends up cut off. And you cannot even extend it, because it doesn't work that feature on cover-generated songs. So cool.

I hate it when vocals try to slowly morph from female to male

For example a song may start out with female vocals, then sound slightly weird as if becoming slightly more masculine, then suddenly be masculine

Yo i really suck at the prompts how would yall go about making a lil wayne type song, obvs u can't name the actual artist but can you get a voice kinda close and the slight autotuned voice/rapping style?

You will want to use a third party software that are more dedicated for Vocal Splitting or Vocal Removers (better results than Suno's paid-plan vocal splitter from what I heard). Some of these are:

• Bandlab (online service, free plan includes basics vocal splitting)
• Ultimate Vocal Remover (run locally with a powerful PC)
• RipX DAW Pro
• Audacity with certain plugins

Alternatively, without using external tools, you can try Extending just before the portions you want with instrumental tags (e.g. [instrumental] and variants like [melodic guitar], etc. where you have more control), opposed to the instrumental switch, as the latter has an increased rate of hallucinations.

Be aware that Extending will likely result in a different tune due to the nature of AI and randomness. Varying the extension/continue from time by a few seconds can cause the style to shift dramatically

They are likely selection markers (that is Suno marks multi-selection by changing the background color rather than the typical checkmarks in the corners)

You can test this out by selecting another item. If the selection is causing you an issue, refresh the page

Usually this means the song you have selected is in some way related to the one that has a more brown background. e.g. if you click on an extension or a full song, it'll do this to the previous parts. Could be a visual glitch though in this case as they seem unrelated.

Hey guys! Quick question: does anyone know of a way to write up lyrics in a better way to switch from male to female singers and back again per lines? And then, possibly a step further, two different sound males and/or females?

I have two songs out of this collection im realising (just for fun) and the first does it well (its cinematic rock/metal) but on this one song I have one female and two dudes but it keeps getting the genders wrong. I tried making it simpler and just combining the males into one callout but even that wont work (on like 8 generations.) it should go F M M F but goes M F F M or some other way. Didnt know if anyone has found a markup that the AI likes when it comes to multiple voices?

This isn’t perfect, but for me, it’s helped when I’ve numbered verses and choruses like:

That's what I do. I figured it out, though.

The first two words of the first verse of the extension matches the verse that was being repeated in the original song. Now that I've swapped the first 2 lines in the extension it no longer does it.

For Cover songs, what do I do if I want more than 60 secs to be used to train the output? I mean if I add my instrumental section, my verse, prechorus, and chorus. It’s 120 sec+

TL;DR:

• Extend "part i" with style X where you want the shift to happen (a simple [End] should be in lyrics/style for this transition extension)
• Do not combine this "part i+1"
• Extend that "part i+1" at 0:01 with style Y (with thr next set of lyrics)
• Get whole song from "part i+2"

One other option I forgot is you should be able to define the various styles in the lyrics field. Something I didn't personally try (yet) but note that those entered in the style prompts tends to be weighted more heavily

Though this is usually used to influence how the verse is sung

You may want to use segments longer than 1s for a smoother transition, but use multiple instead. Also can do things like use Upload with a track that is two tracks mashed together (or overlapped, even) which can make hybrids.

Suno is a customized version of ChatGPT. It's better with more diverse rhyme schemes than if you just ask ChatGPT "write a song" but probably not as good as if you ask ChatGPT 4 or another big model with a very complicated prompt, and especially if you use multiple steps, like asking it to improve the first draft in some way.

This IS a possibility of it returning a song that doesn't necessarily faithfully adapt the song, but just draws inspiration.

That said, when you try to build on your previous attempts and approach Suno as a collaborative tool, instead of a service that should simply follow your every command, you can create some truly remarkable things together

If it's getting the style correct, it sounds like you're trying to get all of the lyrics in a one-shot generation, which gets more difficult with more specific songs that you envision.

Or is the expectation that Covers shouldn't need touchup work in this way?

Thanks for your help. I don’t believe there’s a solution to this issue. It's likely just a limitation of Suno right now. I might be expecting too much from covers; they typically offer a different interpretation of the same song, usually in a new genre, without altering the lyrics. What we probably need is a lyric adaptation feature to maintain the original flow and melody while changing the words.

Yup! It's not the same as voice cloning, but Suno extends from it just the same.

When you extend from a song, Suno analyzes the patterns in the waveforms, so it doesn't quite know what it sounds like, but it understands based on mathematics and statistics how the song should continue based on "what it's heard".

Similarly, if it "sees/hears" the waveform patterns in your voice singing "I'm a little teapot", it will have a MUCH easier time replicating that exact pattern later in the same song -- but unless the clip has enough context for it to REALLY grasp what it's being shown, it might have difficulties adapting that same timbre to new sounds.

Evergreen advice with Suno, but "nothing is perfect", but if you put time and effort into it, I'm genuinely curious what CAN'T be done with Suno.

(to any naysayers, yes, I understand that one-shot generations doesn't listen to your requests with 100% accuracy, that's not what I'm saying)

The longer the clip, the more suno uses it as the basis for the song it generates from it. 6 second clip will give a song the minimal relation to the vocals/melody of the clip while 60 second clip will have suno doing the best it can to use it as a source

I have a Premier plan, and while I love being able to generate so much music, the lack of more advanced sorting/filtering (an option for selecting disliked songs and send them all to trash at once, selecting unrated songs, being able to sort playlists and songs, folder structures etc.

I just spent an hour going through, shift/control selecting and deleting songs, and I have the feeling that the admin involved takes too much time to be implemented in my workflow (I work alone). I e-mailed support and they said that this is the way it needs to be done at the moment, and couldn't give info on if this will be included in the future, also no news on API access.

Anyone else have issues with file management, especially Premier users?

Membership tier doesn't really factor into it, but file management is something that's been mentioned a lot in the #💡┃suggestions-web and #🚧┃suggestions-layout sections. Even among the alpha testers, improved organization and workspaces is at the top of our request list.

At the moment, since we're in the technical-chat, the only thing we can actionably suggest is to include unique identifying words in the style prompts, lyrics, or titles so you can use the library-search tool to track them down later 💪

Suffice to say, wanting it bad enough doesn't change the rate at which the gears of development turn.

But voicing your opinions in the appropriate channels, and having reached out to the devs lets them know it's still highly requested -- same with API access, which I have less faith regarding.

re: membership not factoring into it -- as far as I know, they consider the idea, not the source -- whether you're a free member or have a yearly-paid membership to premier.

I'm not meaning to get into any kind of fight, so if this comes off combative, I apologize, it's not meant that way, just my observations:

Each one of those is two lines, and with minor differences in how it's said, you also specified how you wanted it said.

With what I've tested I hand-crafted a song (just shortly before mentioning it) changed the genre, the vocal structure and everything, and the only thing that changed with the backing track, the vocalist stayed the exact same.

With me late 18th song I changed nothing about it and got completely different things, with one or two being a direct copy, but that's margin of error,
With Truth Demon I have gotten different vocalists and structures each time I generated a cover for it, in the exact same style

I understand that you don't agree with my findings, but you're restructuring the experiment after the fact -- we weren't setting out to prove what complexities of songs were impacted, we were investigating whether songs made after a certain point weren't covered in the same way.

It sounds like you're experimenting with it a lot, and there's TONS of things to learn still, so I trust that you'll learn things that I haven't come across.

Maybe you know but, if not known, Stems are the tracks of each individual recorded entity of a song, vocals, drums, guitar, as they are "recorded" . Some may still call them "tracks" as well as when originally recorded to tape rather than digitally. So you have a 4-track recorder for instance, which can record, well, 4 separates tracks. Stems are more labeled as those separate recorded or digintally created tracks you see on a Digital Audio Workstation thats commonplace now.

In Suno's case, we go backwards and separate out "stems" from an originally created song (that didnt have tracks or stems to begin with). So each app that allows a stem separation has to determine what the division entails. With Suno, its presently two: A "vocal" stem, and a "instrumental" stem. Since the instrumental is pretty much ALL but the vocals, its sometimes termed as the "karaoke track" in recording studio lingo. A stem or track that you can sing along to. Pretty fun eh?

As they suggested, click on the (. . . ) dots for the drop down menu and choose, "get stems" [ if not done already] and it will generate a vocal and an instrumental stem. As sometimes the case, its not always perfect as vocals can bleed into the karaoke track and vice versa. But some, especially if few instruments in the song, come out very nice and nicely.

There are no raw stems, suno doesnt create separate tracks and then combine them, the song it creates is just one mass file with all sounds created together

Anyone have any tips on how to get two prominent instrumentals in a duet (it doesnt just need to be two instruments but I want two instruments to play that have differing but prominent melodies). Like "Concerto" is pretty good a getting an instrument to stand out from the background but when I tried it with two instruments (Electric Guitar Violin Concerto) it just ignores one.

I tried just "trumpet concert, bold, confident" because it doesn't seem to recognize flugelhorn from my observation (and it's just a hipster trumpet anyway)

I extended with "vibrant cello, cellist, thoughtful cellos" and while there were fleeting seconds of strings it always diffused right back into horns.

So I put "piano, trumpet" in the negative prompts. It sort of worked, but you can tell Suno doesn't like trying to interpret how to continue a "trumpet concerto" with no "trumpet".

AI doesnt exactly always chisel away everything and leave a clean sound sometimes -- in my layman terms. Most times, early on, it more like sand-blasts away as much possible , so it leaves some "noise" that sounds like a "chorus" preset on the vocals or "reverb" high timber , AM radio, feel, at times. I get you on the higher frequency feel, though. You can almost distinguish AI songs from "real" songs by the high frequencies... just like you can recognize an AI picture from the excellent lighting and contrasts.

I'm partially satisfied. The limitation on the 1 minute is actually creating different songs after that. I wish I was be able to send at least 2 minutes of the song. Best would be 3min. My songs at least change melodies within this timeframe many times.
I've been spending way more credits to get something that looks more similar to my original songs. The two I made public aren't actually exaclty like the originals. They just sounded great and I like them. The last one (Gothic Palace) has a totally different vocal melody. it is more like a modified cover.
"Feel My Mana" didn't have any lyrics at first, just that riff, but it also had another melody that even though Suno was getting it, the version that I enjoyed I probably ignored that melody, because the song would tak too long to get to the lyrics (that also have a different melody than what it was supposed to have).
Also, many times I want to end the song that the AI has already finished but after the silence it restarts the song. I wish I could set it to delete the rest after a specific second. I don't think that would be something that would be difficult option to implement. That is also making me spend more credits just to make it finish well.

I'm using old songs I composed in MIDI that I've already put out using bandlab last year + an A.I. Singer (Synthesizer V Pro). I just took the MIDI to Suno and I wish Suno could follow the overall melody and energy of the song entirely so It'd still be the same song, you know? Hey, I'm trying to extend one song with maintaining same tempo without adding too much of new style, any tips on maintaining same structure of the song? WAV is slightly better and is not just a decode of the MP3. But it's not noticeably different. It will contain some high frequencies that MP3 doesn't include (above 18KHz I think?) and slightly more definition to the rest of the sound, but until a new model is available the quality is really limited by the current models rather than what the audio is encoded as.

Currently the best way to do this in my opinion involves using a specific style prompt for the vocalist and then keep generating until you get a good match that also sounds good. It's expensive but I've had good results.

i have had very variable results with this so far. if i only play a melody on a piano vst, record that in logic and upload it to suno, it sometimes ignores every prompt and just extends that melody with some "washed out" sounding background instruments and a TON of unnecessary scale runs, seeminly confusing itself and getting stuck in a permanent intermezzo. if i upload a piece of music i made with vocals or multiple instruments, it seems to do a much better job. after all i guess its just a limitation of generative ai not being able to "be creative" by itself

Not that i’ve seen demonstrated reliably; Suno will use as much time as it needs to resolve the song it’s currently making — sometimes that means an extension wants to end immediately, sometimes it gets stuck in a loop and never wants to end, sometimes it makes a perfect minute long song — so much of it depends on your specific input.

That said, you can reliably use an extension to end a song wherever you’d like, from my experiences.

Maintaining the same structure is achievable, but requires multiple extensions sometimes. If you don’t hear what you are looking for, you should continue to extend. Make sure you also look at your point of extending. Vary the starting point from time to time. It might also be a great idea to extend from a whole verse or even chorus that sounds fine.

What ever time or extensions it might take, I found out just one good song is worth more than a month’s subscription…

Makes me wonder if you’re using it in the lyrics box as a metatag, or if you’ve cleared out all other lyrics and style prompts, and are just using “end”, “farewell”, “goodbye” etc as a single style prompt?

If you have ANYTHING else included in the lyrics or style prompts, Suno will often focus on that — only ask for “end” so it can’t get confused about what you’re asking for — it will use the existing song to infer style from as it attempts to end.

Regenerating video is intended to update the embedded/downloaded .mp4 -- whereas by default it shows the original input lyrics and shows the transitions between extensions (by swapping between their artworks), it update the video to show the currently selected artwork (instead of seeing the artwork from all previous clips), and it lets you fix the displayed lyrics (not the sung lyrics)

Suno do try to block intentional use of producer tags (which is annoying for some users because e.g. "you're dead" is a tag and it means you can't use that in lyrics ..)

I’ve discovered behavior that may likely be a bug.
I’ve been using my suno account very actively making songs for clients. I use Like / Dislike to remove bad versions from list and mark good versions.
Recently I noticed that I am spending enormous amounts of credits to get a song done, way less interesting songs than it used to be.
So I tried to create a new clean account from scratch - and the magic happened, a lot of great songs just like old times.

May it be that something in my account affects what kind of songs Suno is producing? How can I “reset” my account to a “clean state”?

I have no explanation for what you have experienced as every song generation regardless of what account you use is - as far as I am aware - handled the same way. So essentially you should be automatically starting with a "clean slate" every time you generate a song, on any account.

Not possible atm. You can use another AI tool to extract the vocals from the generated audio, or use the build in stem function of Suno but the quality is not the best. There are better voice separation tools out there.

If you’re a paid member, you only see the daily 50 if you’ve used all of your monthly subscription credits.

These credits do not stack, and stay capped at 50, the same as the free tier credits.

This is intended to prevent paid users from spending all of their “credit allowance” and having nothing until the next month starts, as previously it was common for paid accounts to use a secondary free account.

So you’re not missing out on anything, it’s just a safety net, not extra allowance. 🙏

Just as a heads-up, I know you have original clips as well, but the mods tend to crack down on people using upload clips they didn't create.

Just because it's public domain or open-sourced doesn't mean that it abides by the ToS.

Unfortunately, if someone else has access to it, it's not 'exclusively owned' -- since someone else could upload the same freely-available clip and use the same prompt, Suno tries to avoid that.

As the Covers feature is notably still in beta, there's room for improvement, and they admit that during internal testing it's been found to return the original song -- this is why every paid user received 200 free covers to test them for free, as well as to give 👍/👎 ratings to help improve the final version of the feature.

That said, if the cover adapts the style well, you could always take that result & place an extension right before the lyrics you want to fix, and recreate the song that way? Covers aren't intended to be a 1:1 replication, so even if the lyrics were faithfully adapted, it might give just as much randomness as an extension would 🤷‍♂️

I had this strange phenomenon:
I told Suno to generate me an aggressive goth rock/power metal song and the track was an absolute BANGER!

Suno maxed out the full 4 minutes, awesome.
Towards the end tho, the song was basically "nearly over" and became quieter, then came an emotional, slow part that steadily increased and then really kicked in again and holy f* that was absolutely insane!

But then came the 4 minute mark and the "second" part was simply cut off abruptly.

Is there a way to get around this in future via the prompts alone or do I just have to regenerate it and hope that it has the same style and vibe?

Also, if I click on "Use prompt again", does it delete and override the first generation?

v3.5 is limited to 4 minutes, v3 is limited to 2 minutes, but you can add onto them!

Click "extend" on your track -- by default the timestamp gets added to the very end of the song, but you can choose to start continuing from an earlier section (like if you want to redo a verse, or try to properly end the song earlier)

If you click extend, you'll get a separate clip labelled "part 2" -- if you click the 3 dot menu for that extension, you can click "get whole song" -- this doesn't cost any extra credits, and adds the fully-stitched together song.

Extending is non-destructive, so you never need to worry about messing up your original track.

btw -- tech-chat is absolutely the right channel for this kind of stuff; there's always someone around who knows how to help 🙂

And that's just it. There's times we want the same melody and rhythm, just some updated lyrics. Is there something that prevents it from looking at what there was before, what there is now, and keeping what's the same while adding/subbing in what's different?

I understand that people want to find new ways to keep the exact same song and only change a couple words, and while I understand Covers might give outputs like this occasionally, I'm not sure that's the intended usage, and improvements in the feature might make that less prevalent.

Some people want "Covers" to reimagine the song and give something entirely new, yet still bears a strong resemblance to the original. (I'm in this group.)

People in the first group, might consider this to be a 'failing' of the feature, but some people want "Covers" to give the same song with very slight changes.

In real life, I've seen cover bands that don't put any original spin onto a cover & as a result, they're just playing someone else's song -- personally, I believe the true spirit behind a "cover" is when an artist takes a song and faithfully adapts it into their own style.

re: wanting the same melody and rhythm; it sounds like you're really excited for the rumored 'inpainting' feature people keep talking about, I hope we get to see it soon -- until then, don't let " Covers' " shortcomings in regards to inpainting take away from how powerful of a tool it is when used otherwise 🙂 💪

Absolutely nothing wrong with that -- these are crazy new tools and there's really no "right or wrong" way to use any of them, as long as you keep a sense of "play" in your heart and can recognize when you've been chasing an idea down the rabbit hole for too long.

But hell -- even spending time exploring something that doesn't pan out isn't a waste if you learned something from the process -- but you need to be observant and exploratively-minded throughout the process -- making small adjustments as you go so you can try to feel what your actions can tangibly effect & how much was just going to happen away. (that's the cognitive & confirmation biases I'm personally wrestling with)

Arguably, the only way to "use Suno wrong" is to have a concrete expectation of how it should work, getting a generatively-interpreted output, then kicking Suno and saying "Stupid Robot can't call itself 'artificial intelligence' if it doesn't understand human English."

To easily replace lyrics & keep the rest of the song, we're waiting for "infill" / "inpainting", which hopefully could be part of the next model. 🤞

Well, in a nutshell, using no style prompt had generally reliably returned a similar melody and style, but sometimes it does decide "nah, lemme do somethin' completely different" and turn your metal piece into a 1930s radio recording. As far as respecting new lyrics, it's been hit-and-miss, and mostly miss. When it tries to hit, it generally completely regenerates notes in the line or verse, which can throw off your intended sound. It is also, as noted before, extremely good at creating a pleasing intro, when the input may have an extra-short 2-4 bar 'intro'. I have noted some serious issues with getting any kind of remixing of one particular song, but I did rescue it from another user (with their permission) with a 'v3 chop' Extension from their generation

I thought it was interesting when I found out that you don't need to use style prompts, and Suno will still infer style from your selected lyrics (ie, without style prompts it might be hard to get a happy sounding song saying "I'm so sad")

Building from that, it was fascinating seeing how extensions infer the style from the clip they're continuing from.

Just seems like a logical extension in my style of experimentation to see how covers would adapt the same song without an explicitly provided style, so I genuinely appreciate you taking the time to write that up

Well, Extensions will usually inherit the same style prompting as the Part 1 if left blank, so that was going to be the expected behavior going into Covers

You're essentially telling it "I like what you're doing, keep going"

I follow the logic, though I was going into it with the expectation being a musical-style shift, whereas extensions continues from where it left off.

I still feel like all of us are trying to figure out the best or most reliable ways to use Covers, and while I'm not comfortable claiming familiarity with it (especially while it's in beta), I feel like I came away from this exchange a little more concrete in my understanding of how it interprets songs, however small of an improvement.

I do wish the generation time was similar to a v3.5 initial generation, so if you get a song that's a 1-click 'perfect blitz', you can easily Cover it

I've even had 'Cover Perfects' get arbitrarily cut off at 3:25, necessitating a roll of the dice on an Extension to get the last few seconds of the musical finale in

While it might be hard to do the mental math of figuring out how quickly a 1.2m v2 song generates compared to a 4m v3.5 song, I'd be curious to know if the speed improved notably.
