I think I read too fast, I didn't realize you were talking about using Extend, as opposed to a single prompt.

In Extensions your power is the style prompt itself so the lyric [tags] are not that vital

So if you want to switch to warm synths or rap, putting those in style prompt and extending from the point you want. (Works better close to start of a clip, if it isn't working)

If you want the singer to switch from singing to rapping, that is sometimes best done by changing up style prompts and generating the song in smaller chunks - Extend From at the time you want the voice to switch, and changing your style prompt to "rap" and maybe even "rap, rap, other-words-that-are-related-to-rap.

But if you have success prompting for it in pure lyrics, just keep doing it that way IMO. But often it doesn't stick and stronger measures are needed.

The problem is not extending it, the real problem is that the way the song continues in the second part is synergistic.

Just generally, generating in bigger chunks (2:00 + 1:00 + 1:00 etc) will have the most musical consistency. But if you need more fine grained control you typically have to start thinking more in terms of smaller pieces, maybe even 1 verse at a time. (This could still mean prompting many verses, but always extending each clip after just 1 verse. It's often still better to provide the extra context to the model.)

One important tech detail: If you extend a Clip, the music model only has knowledge of that single clip. This is both a positive and a negative. It's good if you want the song to change or go in new directions. But alternatively, if you want to make sure the music AI has the most possible memory of all the song that came before, then it is best to "Get Whole Song" on that clip before extending it.

Looks like it hallucinates after the I know section (repeating that verse). So maybe try extending it from time 0:57 (plus or minus a couple seconds, or a bit later if you want to leave some more space) and prompt with the remaining verses after that section. Try a blank style prompt first usually.

Use Extend From at the point just before the verse that cut off, assuming you already have a good verse and chorus and it is a later verse/chorus that is cut off.
Extend from where you cut off and adjust the lyrics to start from the cut off word. This sometimes works, sometimes doesn't, YMMV.

I haven't found a foolproof method. certain genres are worse than others, so I avoid those words and try to prompt differently... When I find one that works I try to stay within it as I refine the lyrics and prompt.

I am having success with a minimal prompt (not adding every instrument to a genre that already has them).

i think he means new melody for chorus and verse which is what ive seen. So when you get onto a second verse/chorus, it will use the lyrics but the melody wont match the first verse and chorus

Although, often, when you want to cut after a verse to try for a new chorus and you change the lyrics of the chorus, it will still remember the old lyrics from the clip you are extending and make a frankenstein of both the new and old.

All I can suggest is that you try to plot your submissions around the understanding of the context window. After your intro you should try to keep something of this format in mind:

I personally find that trying to base the intro and the verse+chorus within the first two minutes and then maintaining the verse+chorus+instrumental seems to help keep it on track.

Something else you can try is to feed it back into itself. Get your first and second good parts and then get a complete song, then restart from that complete song as your base. It acts like a meta prompt or something, reminding the AI what the context of your song is supposed to be. But beware doing this too many times in a row or you could get it "stuck" on a segment repeating it over and over. You need to add enough new material between doing this to avoid the issue.

I'm bouncing between Suno and Udio. They have a familiar ring, and it might not be just in the name.

I'm trying the same input in both, using the simple and more complex methods. So far, I think Suno is winning, but not by that much.

Udio does have some nice features, but when you remove these from the equation, they are very similar.

Interestingly, sometimes the tracks produced are very similar, and even the lyrics share the same words. I suppose there must be a reason for this; maybe the same language model and data used. I'm just guessing!

The online setup is nicer in Udio; even the Discord is easier to navigate and use, which seems to be an easy fix.

The main plus is the ability to contact and hear from staff. There is always information coming, and this keeps you coming back.

With Suno, you never seem to hear about anything or from anyone from Suno, they remain distant, and there isn't even an up-to-date How to Make Music with Suno. Notes need to be kept update and available. As for what's coming.... 🙄

Well, at the moment, I'm still comparing both while Udio is in Beta and free. What I do in one is replicated in the other. I think others should try this, too.

There are several ways you can try:

1. Clear out your lyrics, clear out your Style of music, and only add in that field end
2. Instead of [end], you can try [fade out]
3. Add in the lyrics {end} (so different brackets)

You might have luck by clicking "Extend" and selecting a time before the lyrics come in. Of course, with AI there is no guarantee, but this could help increase your chances of using the same piece of music with updated lyrics.

If it is too early in the song it won't "know" the music. You can try extend as part 2 but start with [drop] or [Break] then start your prompts and lyrics as if it's a new song. You can then trim part 1 out in Audacity or a DAW.

What I did were two things (each happened at different times):

1. continue on and used Audacity to splice it together as I got an output with a similar beat

2. went back to the start of the lyrics and put it in again (burned more credits trying to get something similar though...)

The most reliable way to generate an intro in Suno is to use two clips, the first one being pure instrumental with no lyrics, and then Extend From an early time with your song lyrics. In pure prompting, I think simple/short style prompts are more like to jump straight into singing so that happens more in Simple mode. (Try adding like 8 unique words, intros are more likely.) Also the AI will rarely prompt something that might do better in one shot like

IMO, I would recommend making a separate Instrumental song for the intro and splice it together using Audacity or other audio editors. (Or extend a part and make it pure Instrumental, then splice it to the start, makes it easier to fit what you have)

The other option —if you do not love what you have so far — would be to recreate the song as there is no way to append what you have generated to something else, just extend.

And can continue iterating from there. The idea is to use AI to produce original samples/tracks instead of using an existing library.

the way to fix this issue is to use EXTEND FROM TIME and set the timestamp a little earlier – chances are the 1st clip has an ending of the song, or is fading out in a way the continued clip thinks it is suppose to end...

Hey Technical Discussion. Question about extending a song with Suno

I have never seen the "Extend" feature work. I honestly came here, because I wanted to find out if it works for anyone - ever. All I am doing is using the basic "create" feature on the website. I type a very basic description and it creates a clip of usually about 90 seconds. Extending those clips has never worked. I have tried reducing the "Extend from" value

The message is

"Generation was too short, so no credits were used. If generations are silent and you continued a clip, that clip probably ended in silence. You may want to try continuing from a different clip."

The solution is in the error message.

Try extending and changing the time to start from. (EX. if the clip is 1:57 then edit that to be 1:55 or something.)

I suspect the AI is hearing a fade out somewhere or a pause and trying to end the song because it thinks that the song has already ended.

If you want to go for the most consistency throughout yes. Merge after each extension. It can however cause the AI to get too hung up on patterns so some times it can help to introduce something new before merging it needs a bit of getting used to and learning. But tldr:
Consistency -> Merge often
Change things up -> Merge rarely

Pronunciation can be a difficult problem for AI, especially when you have situations like with homonyms (Live vs Live).

Hey Folks, i was wondering when i create my music I always tend to add in what I think is an AI command: [Intro] for example and sometimes it creates a longer intro and sometimes not, i've also tried various other 'commands' such as [bridge] [solo] [guitar solo] [drum fill] etc. Do we know if suno's ai has such commands?

I´ve used this promtps and they work, but not at a 100%, sometimes I need to try at least 4 times to get those specific structures on the song, the only one i havent tried is "Drum fill", but from the other i confirm it works with some porcentage of precision, of course they will improve that feature so we have more control on the structure of the songs, but it works if you try various times. For intros if you need it without vocals try [Instrumental Intro], not always works, but when it does it gives you a nice intro

I realized one of the problems to look out for: 👀
AI tries to add Sustain to drums, cymbals, but it gives you that nasty sound of a drill in a pipe with rubble.
The model needs to understand: bass guitar, vocals, piano and other stringed instruments can have a long Sustain, but drums have a short Sustain.
Otherwise everything will turn into a mush of sounds that make your head hurt.

Well kinda, it's 5 credits per clip, and you get two clips per generation, so while you get 10 "songs" you can only generate 5 times in total, per day

that's interesting to know, i didn't realise that. So if you have an intro that is only used once at the start of the song (for whatever reason), you wouldn't be able to use that "intro" at the end of the song. Unless the song was less than 60 seconds. I never realised this!
