Does anyone run an Arma Reforger server on their own network and is able to connect to it?

From what I know, if you cannot connect to it, it may have to do how your router handles local-NAT. If you have a router that supports the correct-NAT-for-Arma, it may work... That, or maybe there is some completely different method.

Steps:

• Run Arma Reforger game -> Multiplayer -> Click Direct join -> Enter local IP address + port -> Click Confirm

Result:

• Does not connect, and it has not worked for me since Reforger was released.

Workaround:

• Use a VPN and connect to your local dedicated server.

If anyone knows a way to make it work, I'm all ears.

No firewall... no DDOS protection and all the other features your router offers. You're just exposing your PC with the iron-clad protection of its OS security measures. lol

Games get this network programming right though... I've been running dedicated game servers since around 2012.

If DMZ'ing your PC is the only method, then VPN it is. It sucks though, since peer to peer networking does not work. Need to connect to Arma servers to connect to your local game server.

There’s a small learning curve, nothing crazy but you might feel lost at first. Use your mix and ask trans Mayes if you have any questions, it’s push to talk, and try to avoid talking on platoon (channel 42 or 48 depending on team)

Anyone else seeing mod download timeouts when running dedicated servers?

It looks like downloading mods from the backend servers are still intermittently timing out. This causes issues with servers starting properly. If the server startup code is resillient enough, the server retries until the mods are fully downloaded. I've had to write a bunch of logic to work around this, and my server is loading now.

Curious if this is still the DDOS issue for Reforger backend server calls.

I am having massive server disconnect problems when in the multiplayer screen (unable to select servers), says backend not working etc etc. I am aware this is a common problem but nothing I have done thuis far is working. I've tried resetting network adapter, uninstalling malwarebytes, mucked around with the firewall settings.
Is anyone else experiencing this. Once I get into a game (with no queue) I have no issues at all, ping is low, FPS high etc.

i have an RTX 3050 6gb laptop, i5 13450 HX paired with 16 Gb of ram
when i've seen if i can run the game on technicalcity everything is good for recommended settings excpet for the GPU
but in the other hand everything is good for minimum settings

if you use that laptop at 1080p (1920x1080) resolution you should be just fine. I run the game on a RTX 2070q at that resolution and get 70-90fps with settings tweaked

wel reforger is a very graphically intensive game. If you get 60fps, that is considered great. X-box series S hangs around 40fps and the series X gets 60 once in a while.

I was thinking of getting the 7900xt but I cheapped out and got an 2070ti off of eBay, I get over 80+fps on ultra. In the enfusion workshop it's more around 260ish

Yes correct. Laptop - at 1440 the fps drops below 30 and packet dropping issues. Saw somewhere here to use 1080p settings on both pc and game and did get better but very seldom above 40fps.

if it is Reforger is probably using the integrated GPU on the ryzen 6800 instead of the rtx3070. To fix this you need to make sure Arma is selected to use the 3080 via whatever Nvidia control panel software you have

its located under "manage 3d settings" - there you can see the "global settings" tab...where you see "prefered graphics processor" select the "program settings tab" find the Arma executable and make sure its using the "high performance NVIDIA processor"

Game mode idea we'll call Fobbits for now:

You can only spawn on main objectives which you both control and have built two radio antennas in the radius of. These antennas would be free-build by construction trucks and serve as FOBs, but not spawns. Spawns are only on the main objectives (same places as base game) and you can only spawn there as long as you control both the FOBs in that point's radius. This helps combat spawn camping and ends the defensive meat grinder because once you loose one of your FOBs you now have to travel in from another main obj. The blue and red dots FOBs and the circles around them represent the area in which no other FOBs can be built. You will also have to travel at least a kilometer to defend a FOB when you can spawn on the main obj because no fob can be built within those purple circles. FOBs would be lost and captured the same way bases are in Conflict now. In order to capture a main objective you must capture its FOBs then the main point.

The purple triangles represent large settlements which can be captured to help generate supplies for main objectives. They would also be captured the same way as they are now (faction majority + timer) and you would be allowed to build a fob on them, but no structures would be needed for their capture. Radio towers and the concept of radio range (as it relates to bases) are gone, you can capture any point at any time except for, as noted, main objectives.

When im looking for a server to play i generally check the ones i know i had a good time on first then if they are all full i go down the list and find new servers to try out that arnt completely full. as much as people whine about queuing it deffinatly makes me try more servers out instead of spam clikcing the ones i know

I understand that the services are currently unavailable, and there are probably DDoS attacks to the Bohemia servers. Sometimes the service comes back to life, and players can connect to the server. However, not all players can do so. There are a number of players who have not been able to even get a list of servers since yesterday.

There is a possibility that when bohemia admins were fighting off the DDoS attack, players addresses were mistakenly blacklisted. Is there any way to check this? Who can I contact about this?

If a DDoS attack is currently happening, it doesn't mean that there is no blacklist.
However, I do not exclude the possibility that you have more reliable information.

I was able to connect to our server today. Unfortunately, it is currently unavailable. I am not worried about myself, but about those players who couldn't connect yesterday. They couldn't retrieve the server list either yesterday or today. Some players can periodically see the servers, including myself, while others cannot.

Therefore, the hypothesis arose that a blacklist exists and that innocent players have also been added to it. Without a blacklist, it is difficult to fight a DDoS attack.
I suspect that if access for networks from China and Russia is temporarily blocked, the situation with Bohemia's services will improve. 😉

My theory is that it's not a particularly sophisticated attack, but that the attacker is paying a service with a large enough botnet to overwhelm DDoS protection. I also look down on anyone using DDoS via packet spam as a method of attack, git gud and do something interesting. Its the hacking equivalent of throwing bricks at the target
