Question to the modders: I have only created mods so far related to missions, factions, Configs etc, with that in mind, which of the following mods would be the easiest next step and why?
- Buildings
- Vehicles
- Units
- Weapons
- Script related
all of the above are going to be hard when you have no experience with them, just pick the thing you want to do and do it
I already have a list of ideas, just not sure which one to start at lol
maybe start with something smaller out of them all

nothing helps yet, hoped to find some help in discord, as just googling the issue gave me nothing
If your on windows, make sure your selected drive has enough space (sometimes the computer will select the primary computer storage rather than the secondary) double check if you have enough space!
If your on xbox, you have to select mod one by one as they can over mesh and give download errors especially on older consoles (series S and older)

maybe there is a way to change the download destination folder? not a fan of trashing the system main drive

is repairing helis broken? It wants me to have a repair truck or maintanence point nearby, which i have (a repair truck full with supplies) and a fresh repair tool as well

Yea it's a bit ridiculous for helicopters I think it increases in experimental
The way I think it should work is that if you are in radius for one component, then you are it lets you repair them all
It's still a cool way to repair things regardless
yeah, the radius needs to be increased. I mean, usually when you blow your rotors off, you are in a tight space so maneuvering a truck that has no functioning mirrors in there to get directly next to the heli is just super tedious. The gameplay itself with needing a repair truck is absolutely fine with me though.

Reposting this in the Reforger specific channel, because I confused a guy who thought I wanted to play 3.
Fully new, and have no idea what's going on, would very much like to learn. Play on PC and I've run through the tutorials, still really hard to keep up. Mainly got into the game to fly transport, but I gotta learn the other side of the game first. Any help appreciated.
arma platform youtube channel has some videos and arma reforger website has some blogs called boot camp, they are basically guides for everything in the game, i suggest taking a look.
I've seen a couple of videos online, it's gotten me decently far, but I'm still lost on a lot of the core essentials.
Mainly knowing where the hell I'm on the map. That's been the worst thing.
yeah play the game and you will learn, its natural happens in all the games, but if you look at the right bottom corner of the map it tells you where you are roughly
So that just comes with experience aka a lot of hours.
My biggest tip would be to get obsessed with flying 🥴 you will not only learn the map faster but also know every shortcut and just have an overall better visualization of the terrain, ground vehicles work too but not as good.

It's available in the Diag Menu.
Sadly no fixed key's for this so far.
bacon photo props comes with a hotkey to pause the game while you are in first person, but no speed change

I'm curious, callsigns such as Atlas Red etc... Not sure how to put this, but are there similar types of callsigns that aren't just plain old Alpha / Bravo etc..? I kind of dig it, a lot.

I think the modding only show's how you can add your own debug to the menu.
A lot of the diag menu is using #WORKBENCH which will prevent it from running outside of workbench.
Also iirc many stuff is not exposed in script for modding.

RHS specifically states no conflict material and other items on their TOS, but the workshop itself does not state anything about that.
Additionally; I've seen people make the whole "Z" or specific white armbands on the workshop, so I think the IFOR markings are okay.

how do i download mods outside the game? arma doesn't allow me to download a mod while playing a scenario

I was playing a scenario called Overthrow, and I got softlocked because my body and enemy bodies disappeared after my death, so I wanted to give myself a pistol using Game Master, and also teleport myself, so I don't have to walk for 25 real life minutes, but I can only go into Armavision mode (Photo mode). So, I went to main menu to check if I need to start the scenario from the Game Master menu or something, but there are only two maps (Everon, Arland), but no other maps or scenarios that I have downloaded
Assuming you are playing this locally on your PC or Xbox, then by default GM will probably be disabled. Unless the scenario enables GM or you are running on a dedicated server.

I see in workbench that there is values for limiting the turret to have certain left and right limits while prone but for the life of me I can't seem to go prone with the turret

I use it within my community. Once you add that member as a contributor, they should be able to publish updates to the mod. Never noticed pending invites to be honest. You would still need to have a method of transferring internal updates between each other though. Like GitHub.

There is no easy implementation, you would need to implement your own in script, and disable the radio antenna yourself so a zone is blackout

Frankly that's a bit bizarre and not acceptable from an ARMA title. Reforger, it's kind of in between. But the full ARMA 4 having no AI helicopter function, not acceptable.

The benefit is msot of the ground work would be done for antistasi regardless by the time A4 rolls around
And it can still be pretty fun with ai ground forces going around
Besides, we don't really have any good anti-air stuff yet since RPG's miss a cluster fuck load and MG's need to be lucky with their placement
I'd imagine A4 will have Igla's and Stingers which will give ground blokes a better chance at fighting back against air assets

Yeah I remember arma 2 you had a hole variety of anti air. The 2k22 tunguska was the peak of mobile anti air for russia, But also had aaa guns ground or truck mounted like zu23, self propelled like zsu23 shilka , or manapads like igla. The us just had stingers , either. carried by men or mounted on humvee or bradley
Tbh kind of glad there aren't any guided missiles for anti air for arma reforger. Since the peak of air support is going to be limited to utility helos with rockets.

The only reason I second guess jets being added is due to how small island of everon is. It only has 1 airfield anyways. And a pretty short one at that. Imo even a subsonic jet like a10 or su25 imo are gonna feel like they are in a very small cage never minding supersonic jets.
For an island based maps I'd think usmc faction or assets would be suitable, and adress lack of airstrip options. Like an amphibious assualt ship that has a deck from which a harrier can operate from.
From what we can guess from the A4 teaser we might be going back to nogova which is a bit larger in scale than everon
And besides, malden was tiny af too and they used jets there

Is there a way to set the next loaded Grenade Launcher round to HE? For example currently I fire a HE round then when I reload I load in a flare GL round. How is the next loaded round determined or is it random? It makes multi munitions Grenadier role a pain.
you cant choose but you can using the interaction button select which round to load
Ah so that's the only way I've found when playing. That's disappointing to be honest. Kit organisation should make it possible to fire different types repeatedly.
Nogova would be awesome as a final farewell map to Reforger, it would be cool to get something close to an actual city in the form of the capital Lipany
either having to choose to move your tanks and other heavy vics across the Bridge in the middle and have them potentially be picked off, or go the long way through the rough and mountainous north

yeah as a terrain thats cool. youd think that place would also be relevant in the cold war due to the democratic republic of Sahrani being aligned with the USSR in the timeframe, and would probably oportunistingly invade the Kingdom of Sahrani if the US and USSR are busy duking it out over other islands and mainland europe

yeah all islands on one map would require a whole new system to instance terrains and probably need to offload the server work to one server per island 😆
servers barely use 12 GB of RAM currently so I think doable but there's no way you can have all of those very active at one time since the CPU bottleneck exists in Reforger server
the only way I can get it to use more than 6 CPU cores is through synthetic benchmarks
damn, well i am sure devs are working on it. we gotta squeeze every bit of performance out. let the cpu sweat

Does we've some mod to remove what I call since Arma 3, the "eye of Thundera", the ability to just hold "RMB" to X4 zoom. Is beyond me how they never added to this day, a option to toggle it on or off in the servers, for hardcore players.

No it isn't, is just fake, don't defend arcade stuff, you can't do a X4 zoom IRL lol, would be cool asf.
Games are an abstraction, not a 1 to 1 model. Stuff like the zoom is not meant to be a literal model of how vision works, but an abstraction for human concentration in looking at something.
The zoom in thing is that the game trying to render image that in real-life about the same to what is rendered on the monitor. Hope that makes sense.
Less concentration and more 1:1 size. It's not possible to mimic human vision on a limited size screen without some zoom function. What we have in Arma games is a compromise between peripheral vision and unaided 1:1 eyesight.
You want to simulate having poor eyesight? Zoom is 1:1, "unzoom" tries to simulate peripheral vision on a display monitor.

I understand that, but still, would be great to have the option to turn it off in a server. And I don't believe the zoom is 1:1 . You can't see that well and far, just go to the game and zoom to look a object at 100m, later go IRL and compare, I can be wrong, but I'm pretty sure you see way closer in-game with the zoom, looks like a X4 zoom, you can compare it with the X4 scopes to have a idea
The 4 times scope is actually a great way to test it.
Zoom in, then put your thumb over an apparently thumb-sized object.
Then switch to a 4x scope. You'll notice your thumb now covers 1/4 of the object.

So I have a problem where I have usually 60fps on arma but if i pick a scope with magnification as soon as i zoom in my fps drops to 30-40. Is there any setting that could help with that?

There actually is, you can try enabling 2D scopes, it will lead to simpler scopes that perform much better. The downside sadly is that you completely lose the PIP effect.

tab to open inventory when you are near the truck, the middle mouse click on the truck icon to unlock the inventory window, from there you can drag items between vicinity and truck cargo

How do I save scenario progress in a multiplayer game?
it's not hardcore to remove, it's the opposite. all combat flight sim, DCS, IL-2, have massive amounts of "eye zoom" like ARMA. flat 1080p, 1440p screen can't represent eyesight capability very well.
easy to test by looking at distance in real life, check distance via Google Map or rangefinder, compare in game.
eg, if you can see human figures at 1000m, 2000m in real life and it's impossible in game to see past some hundreds meters, then you need eye zoom.
Someone internally made calculations - considering resolution of screen, FOV and actual resolution of human eye - Arma 3 camera zoom is consistent with biology. Reforger has smaller zoom than A3.

your game gets a list of servers which contains like the IP of the server, the mission and how many players, then your game connects to that IP when you join

idk if you have an actual controller anywhere, but you could try connecting both your drone controller and a normal controller at the same time, so u can use the normal controller to start the input selection and use the rc controller to set it?

Adding the functionality that you can select with mouse and set with controller should in theory be possible but I can and will not guarantee that your edge case controller works properly with Reforger. That's out of scope.

Maybe, eventually.
It changes the gameplay a lot - just see what Tarkov faced when they enabled it by default on all maps (initially it was only on one map).
Tarkov is a bit different though not nearly as much travelling in terrain. Adding a disadvantage to being invisible is a sort of balance. You can hide so well in bushes in Reforger
But it also makes it more annoying when travelling long distances I guess

Its a good point. Currently there is a bit too many bush-wookies out there. I myself like to hide inside vegetation. This (eventually, depending on time and resources) may be improved.
The ability to actually hide inside the vegetation is awesome especially at distance. Such a stark comparison to A3 and DayZ. But I do also think it's a good balancing act to do so as it is very effective and easy to move from spot to spot while remaining in the bushes. The awesome addition of overencumbrance that's currently in experimental showcases a similar type of restriction that was needed for other reasons
True. I would just add that we have sounds of going through bushes which depends on your speed. If you get into fight in such place, sneaking and listening to every noise is crucial, or you have to make decision to move away from bushes just not to be heard.
hopefully it gets fixed somehow, for example having mortars or fire destroy the bushes would destroy them.

That's certainly an honest variable when within 50 meters or so but this also effects longer ranges and travel speed. It makes the player make decisions about travelling as well. In the open is faster but terrain is stealthier. That's already a thought process about vehicles. Just my two cents, thanks for listening anyways! 🙂
Hi y'all! Does anyone have advice for making the in-game voice comms work more smoothly? My friends and I tried to play last night, but we really found it tough to communicate in-game compared to our experience with Arma 3 TFAR. The clarity was rough (lots of breaking up even in proximity talking - not on the radio) and we kept having the proximity chat disable randomly (maybe it's when you transmit on the radio?). My guys were really disappointed in this aspect of the game. It's such a cool concept, but just could do with some improvements perhaps. I'm thinking maybe we just need to tweak our settings, maybe tweak the serverside? Not sure.

Another tough thing for us is that we couldn't set the device for the microphone within the game settings - it had to be done in the windows settings, which was tough to walk people through.
Maybe even a collider in the centre of the bush prohibiting movement through the middle where the stem is, realistically you can't walk straight through

For landing the mi-8, what are some things I can do to make the landings smoother and accurate? I've currently started getting comfortable with landing by tipping the nose all the way up, stabilizing the helicopter and then landing from there while maybe turning the helicopter a bit to kill some more speed.

Guys I have a server open and I have been beating my head over why my server FPS dips below 10 when we have 60+ people, over 160 AI, and 350+ registered entities... I have a few questions if you would be so kind, I will also include our server host specs below:
XGamingServers (Reforger Ultimate) > 12 cores of CPU (i9), 23.44gb memory, 97 GiB of disk space. Nothing goes over 50% usage on any of these specs. We allow up to 100 people in the server. We average around 70-80. We get up to 100 on weekends.
1 - We run a PVE server. We currently have it under Mikes Fallujah PVE with LinearPVE. Is there a way to keep the server FPS above 20 with LinearPVE off? We would also like to have 2-4 helicopters in the air if possible. (If you would like I can DM you our mod list).
2 - What are registered entities? We see a possible correlation on server FPS dips around that number going over 350+, and commonly corresponds with player counts and definitely AI.
3 - Based on this screenshot, what would you assume the culprits is/are? We do have 18gb of mods, but 33% of that comes from RHS. I can provide a full mod list, but I'm hoping for some help. I would love if someone could help me figure this out and maybe teach me what to look out for for myself and others in the future. Thank you so much in advance!
Game is the culprit. No matter what you play (Conflict, modded, vanilla), if there are more that 80 players the game will start lagging eventually. I know it's not the answer you may expect, but it is how it is ATM.
I have heard this, however, I know of similar servers that have 20+ server FPS with most of the same mods running max pop (100 people). We run similar mods yet somehow they have almost double the FPS that we do. I have already reached out to them to no response
You can try tweaking drawing distance, limit AIs and other entities.

I'm a regular player and I can only configure my server using ready-made templates, so I won't be able to help you. Try asking in #reforger_servers about optimal in-game configuration for the best performance.

I'm not against a chance of cutting you and definitely not against it slowing you down. You are right about realism though, some bushes like rosehip bushes when thick are impossible to get through. You'll get a hairfull of ticks going through them too 😅
As HorribleGoat said, it's been that way for at least Arma 2 and 3. I think Armed Assault too but it's been a while now so I don't remember.
It always felt more right than in CWA where you could walk through them. I'm not against some small bushes being passable but pretty much every Bush should at least slow you down at the center and many should stop you.

Making bushes slow you down, is a very big impact in gameplay, we always had this idea, it is just very hard to design it, and there was just other priorities to tackle

I've yet to see a performance benchmark of Reforger with modern GPU's / CPU's, other than the one done post release by a Russian website I believe.
Have no sense as to the impact of different GPU's, AMD vs. Intel on the games performance. Has anyone seen a set of benchmarks from a reputable source?
any new cpu made in the past 4 years is gonna be great. almost no one has a intel gpu but for AMD there has been no problems, for nivida some older cards like 20 series has had problems which I dont think has been addressed. I would just get a 8core CPU, 32gb 6000 mhz as a gamer, and a mid ranged card like 4060 16gb or something that is above 12gb vram.
also you wont find any benchmarks for the game since its still unfinished and can be made outdated in few weeks or months
Reforger this time around are more GPU dependent than previous title, where they were more CPU dependent.

Well I shoud add that I had a Ryzen 3700X and a RX 5700XT. Then I upgraded to Ryzen 5800X3D, and the FPS in reforger barely change. But I got quite a boost in Arma 3 though. That's why I think Reforger is more GPU dependent this time around.

For example, turn hardware AA to x8 and you need a 4080 to get good frames.
However with the upcoming increase in grass view distance, I think cpu strength does become more important to get the full 300 meters. Uncertain if higher clock speed (intel) or larger cache (amd) will be preferable

It shows some solutions for general problem, not game-specific. It may work. For many issues with Xbox clearing MAC address works.

By clearing the alternate MAC address, you are essentially reverting the Xbox console to use its original MAC address for network communication.
I've met many players in Reforger who had hardware issues, apparently unrelated to any network settings, yet clearing MAC address resolved their problems.

I've never seen Reforger on Xbox, so I don't even know how "blurry" is to blurry. That's why I was asking him about any additional graphic settings.
yea I have it on series S and it is permanently blurry on all settings (which are only "low" and "high" if I remember correctly)
I remember an Xbox guy in the game who had extremely dark night, like he couldn't see anything at all. Solution for that was turning on HDR. In order to do it, a TV must support 4K. He had all that, but he still couldn't turn on HDR. Clearing MAC address helped. I was surprised even more than him and I asked myself exactly this question: "why would the visuals of a game depend on your network address".
Maybe it was something else that triggered the setting to work properly, but it happened after clearing MAC.

Yeah I’ve had it since may on the series x, my experimental version is fine. I refuse to play multiplayer it’s just ruined my experience completely.
It makes the game look like absolutely crap, forced to play 30fps if I want to see something 🫤
when I played it on my series s it was unbearable because I couldnt see jack beyond like 100 meters
it made me understand why xbox players cant aim at long distances, its not that they are bad at aiming they just dont see me
Yeah 💯, I came from a series s, when I swapped to an x eventually and it wasn’t cracked it was so much better, but I think 4K is only for high settings, which is 30 fps unfortunately. But series s users suffer
can xbox users use "high" settings with a lower resolution like 1440P or 1080P? if not that should be an option so one gets better graphical fidelity without having that tied into higher resolution.
Honestly I’m not too sure I’m assuming it’s 4k because I play 1080 and it gets really sharp looking, but I’m assuming it’s better resolution because of how much sharper it is

My typical performance is ~50 FPS with most of my graphical settings at low. I disabled VSync, and confirmed that my GPU usage is always maxed out. Didn't figure out a way to get detailed measurements like frame times, but the game is generally smooth for me. Despite that, my input latency feels consistently high compared to other games like Arma 3, even when I might go under <30 FPS during CPU-intensive scenes.
That's Reforger. It's slow paced game and compared to other games it feels like everything is on 3/4 of speed.

Well improvement system ITSS in LAV25A2 only mentions replacement of existing thermal and fire control systems by ones designed by Raytheon. What it actually replaced is difficult to find.

yes, both BRDM and BTR are quite competent in taking down LAV with its machineguns. LAV is also quite competent in take BTR and BRDM down. The upside of lav is that it has night fighting capabilities and the upside of BRDM and BTR is troop capacity and numbers

As for how Guba's forces got to Everon, they didn't have to travel far since Kolgujev isn't as distant as CONUS or mainland Europe. Not to mention that Reforger now has a Soviet airbase on Arland.
yeah there was a thermal sight pulled from tow launcher optics and mounted onto the Commander position on exterior. However the improved thermal sight was a replacement of a dedicated gunners sight, but our reforger LAv25 dont get it because aforementioned Sighting system didnt enter production until 1991, but actual mounting of it is oviously post Gulf war. IF 1989 is a technological cutoff date then only night vision.

its weird that night vision was outright denied for BDRM-2 but somehow not for LAV-25 . im reading that and BTR70 can be installed with TVNO-2B night vision device for the driver, TKN-1 or TKN-3 day/night sight periscope for the commander position. SO if night vision optics are denied for BDRM 2 and presumably BTR70 i don't see why anyone can expect BI would then bother modelling night vision for LAV25 in reforger.
Well tbf brdm2 and btr70 are only upgraded with nvg. Not produced in such way... ask for what BI does...

btr 70 and brdm 2 both have night vision capability, they are both 1st gen and require good environmental lighting or active light

It is highly unlikely that any if the vehicles will have NVG sight systems, because that would require such a system be produced to begin with.

Steve-E drove BTR 70 on to the little island near mil base on arland. Its near impossible to hit it with RPG7, but that 14.5 mg can kill pretty easily at that range.
Then some madlad took a 10 minute swim and blew it up.
With helicopter rockets, mortars and autocannons I guess these sort of cheese tactics will be less plausible as there is something to counter everything.

I think that with mortars it will be the same as with howitzers in A3. Only a very few players will actually use them effectively because of slightly steeper learning curve, compared to other weapons.
I have some thoughts on future iterations of mortars, considering they will most likely be assembled they will not come with a dirt base like seen in the construction truck blueprint, leading me to hope that adjustments to the terrain will be needed to level mortar, I hope this becomes a feature accessible through E-tool, and eventually aids in digging trenches for vehicles and infantry
In vanilla arma 3 using any artillery was easy because it was just a matter of putting a crosshair on map where you want to shoot and press fire button
I played mostly RHS-modded servers. And there using M109 required some experience.
Which m109 variant was it? Because Irrc the m109a6 paladin is the variant that in use since at least the late 90s. it had digital fire control integration.

If you ever see it as a scenario creator, it would be great if you enabled the Russian and FIA arsenal to have more diversity of equipment.
In itself, with the American equipment it's immersive, if you add Russian and FIA arsenal boxes you'll make it much more diverse, especially if you allow the possibility of arsenals with equipment mods! P.S. I don't know if this should be posted here

I don't think there is any use for it to be in gm. The config file controls all options and you can't change them once the server is started.

Environment quality seems to really kill performance with very minimal visual difference between high and ultra or even medium tbh. The option setting is misleading as its really volumetric lighting and clouds it affects?
