If I had a small wish, I'd wish to have Sahara cDLC assets available in the base game
You can just load the free cdlc compatibility mod. For cdlc owners we load the full thing. Even I want add a few of the other cdlc mod features ti vanilla or other mod missions so it is lighter to load the compatibility mods and not load in the terrain or missions.
compatibility data contains the terrains for preview too. performance wise there is no difference

Yeah, meant for the assets to be available for everyone in the base game, with DLC messages for non-owners or lite versions like in OA

Eh, I think only Sahara specifically because it was designed in the near-future 203X setting. The others make more sense to keep out of official 2035 servers and stuff

Agree... but it becomes a storage issue for people who do not want cDLC like non 203x timeline. I rather have all the cDLC downloaded and just nag to buy it and see other players using the content. That was how I bought the official DLCs.
TBH Western Sahara realizes me that many people likes 2035 than I expected. Thought everyone just likes 200X or 194X or Vietnam

I absolutely love the 203X setting above all the others actually, I really wish it had even more focus from the workshop and Western_sahara was/is the only CDLC I'm considering buying because of how complementary it is

Working on jets dlc and then moving back to the 1960s and unable to make use of so many features is a bit of a bummer true! Thats a major benefit of a 2035 setting, being able to maximise the features from the native game when encoding vehicles and weapons
I hated 2035 until I played WS... because you guys managed to make 2035 immersive but not because of the new assets but rather how believable, relatable and fun your game modes are. That really shows just how important mission making is, because it is not the assets available but what the mission makers do with them to portray immersive scenarios.

Gameplay and game mode design are vital to immersion. Simply providing assets is not gonna sell a dlc very well

i am very much a sp-only a3 player as well, but statistics say that we are the absolute minority
trust me when I say I really understand your point. I know there are a lot of players out there, that play arma for single player reasons.
however, it is just a fact, that more players play arma for the multiplayer. and like Lexx said, from a statistical standpoint, it's much more worth it for bohemia and the CDLC teams to focus on the bigger player group

Pretty much this. Just look at Steam Achievements for A3: barely 10% have beaten the first episode of the main campaign and only 3% for the entire thing.

That's to my knowledge not the whole picture. It's based on installed games. Everyone who played through and deinstalled the game will not show up in that statistics.

Also everyone who plays without internet access does not show up. I have a game. played through offline, yet my steam profile logs it with no achievements and a playtime of half an hour
IMO those figures are still pretty unlikely to change even if it factored them in. You could double those numbers and still not have more than a fifth of the playerbase.
Arma 3 is a Steam exclusive game, so you need to be online in order to play... AFAIK
That's is just guessing. But it's based on faulty data. Multiplayers have by default a installed game and are for that always online

I have come to understand that Arma 3 works best in low player count low asset counts coop operations just like extraction. The difference between SP and MP is that in MP the random interactions between players make any open ended mission much more replayable (you will get unique experiences most of the time even when playing the same mission) and so if your mission supports MP then it will be a lot more played and therefore the amount of content from players that is uploaded to social media is multiplied several times. More media coverage also means more sales etc.

I do wonder what has the saving system got to do with the netcode?
have you ever seen how does multiplayer saving work in modern games, from the inside? what stuff has to be 1:1 between all players, what has to be kept only on host/admin side, what is saved serverside? A lot of that stuff is handled by netcode so there are no mismatches.
While I am not an expert I was under the impression that everything is done server side. On save the server stores the game mode variables on tables, the time and date, the player variables (health, inventory, position,other variables), the vehicle variables (fuel, damage, position) and finally the building/other assets variables (Damaged, door open etc). On load the server moves all those units and vehicles into their saved positions, sets their inventory and health according to what was stored in the tables and sets the proper time, date and game mode variables like the scores, kills, locations captured etc. The reforger netcode should of course make everything faster and smoother but it is not less doable in Arma 3. It is just that in Arma 3 devs never cared for such feature while they did with reforger, just like the other features like climbing, ability to use the enemy's uniform, the melee system etc... It is all a matter of "wills" rather than the technical limitations of one or the other engine. That is how I see it but I could be wrong thou.
There is not much "netcode" involved in the whole process besides the server getting the data on each object it saves and on load only the move command uses more bandwidth but then the setting of the "health, fuel, variables, inventory etc" shouldn't be too netcode intensive and can be done while the players are loading so they don't even see the loading process.
Saving is mostly usable in MP but BI never cared enough to give us proper UI to load/save.
And lobby system is buggy with saves.
I wonder if that would be too hard too add a proper UI to load/save and update the lobby system to support it for the current support team. Would be a game changer since workshop alternatives are pretty "unreliable". Not to mention the great number of Coop campaigns mission markers will most likely release/update if such feature is officially implemented.

Your post reminds me the session with my friend that ends with an accidental (Arma'd) vehicle crash and everyone has to respawn without retrieve ||the camera|| so it doesn't end well 😄

deployable shields is weak, and more times people will just shoot you with AT if you hide behind it

is it really necessary ? i think they should focus on more "iconic" things like the Denel Y3 AGL or the PAW-20 there is also the T5-52 all from South Africa, if you take more North africa countries some still using like algeria, egypt and libya use BMP-1 or the Boxer from germany(Algeria) and if i am right egypt still using Beretta AR70/90, there's also T-34 to T-72, if you go to united emirates there's the Mirrage 2000s.....
i dont even know if PT76 was actually send to one of those countries, i do recall many was send to india and syria, vietnam too...

If it’s on the Sefrou-Ramal map they won’t be able to, they can only view the map in eden editor. If you use WS assets on a different map (vanilla or modded) they’ll be able to join

Applies to all Creator DLCs. Keep in mind that aside from not being able to play on the terrain, all they'll get if they use DLC stuff are the ads being spammed just like official premium content.

I know what makes this CDLC stand out is the 2035 setting, but part of me would like to see an update add “throwback” content with ION in the Congo Wars or Sierra Leone Civil War. It would fit great with the other CDLC content, and there are lots of interesting things that might be covered - Osprey just put out a title on the Soldiers of Fortune in Cold War Africa. Otoh, like I said I admire the CDLC sticking to 2035, and also addressing some of those events would be tricky - I wouldn’t like to see “Task: Assassinate Patrice Lumumba” pop up while doing Throwback Extraction.
Western Sahara is obviously focused on conflict on the Western Sahara, not whole Africa.

Hello Sabaudus. Although this title takes place 'in the period of Arma 3 in game', it has succeeded in being qualitatively on par with it. Clearly a greater challenge already at the start than any other proposition.
I also find the story/environment to be quite brilliant. Whoever wrote it did a good job. It narrows down to a rather small geographical area when compared to other settings, and still managed to offer us different factions and content.
Therefore, I would not ask for the CDLC* to be twisted. Besides sounding ungrateful, it is meaningless. This is my humble opinion.

I did find it neat that ||even after the first 3 magic-wells you could keep going after others and upgrading your magic.||
well I ||did the 3, decently challenging, went for the special red location and had the magic area load to 100%, then enemies, some Viper, some that can teleport came at me, I exited the scenario after dying a few time||
||On my end I went ahead and did about 5-6 locations, got my explosion up to like level 6 roughly, teleport up to the 160m mark. Went to the red area, gatted a bunch of guys using my SPMG before I moved in, found a ammo box with a bunch of my ammo marked in yellow. Went 'hrm this feels like a boss/wave area' so I saved, activated the marker...it went up really fast like 20% in < 3 seconds up to 100% in about 30 seconds total. No one spawned. Picked it up, got a survive message...which I somehow did instantly and it triggered the end of game cutscene.||

In terms of aesthetic quality and content, this is definitely a work that has nothing to envy from Arma 3 vanilla. I appreciate that you have "expanded" the map. I appreciate vehicles, and weapons etc. I also appreciate, as mentioned days ago, the script. The game functions and much more. Congratulations & thank you!

Just bought the CDLC, finished my fist campaign and joined the discord server just to comment on this. This is my honest opinion and not meant to bash on anyone.
`1) I dont know how this was on release but with the newest patch it is pretty much fine content wise.
2) Had a lot of fun, playing with my brother and my dad.
3) My dad had to go to work and my brother had to go to school so we had to restart the campaign because there was no way of saving our progress. My brother and I were able to continue this second campaign from scratch but my father was kinda mad at the game for not providing a way to resume our previous 3 hours campaign.
4) It is cool that you guys added some extra stuff, but weapons, outfits, vehicles skins etc we could get thousands of with a click from our mouses on the workshop. What we cant get from the workshop is a way of saving and resuming our campaigns and that resulted in one of our squad mates never seeing the end of the campaign.

I am also puzzled that this requires an extra download when it could just as easily be part of the main game and remove a hassle from players. If the content is used more then more players will buy the CDLC to unlock the map, the campaign and the extra assets if they are already part of the main download. I understand putting a separate download for 30+ Gigabytes sized CDLCs taking on a completely different time period but not this CDLC.
I am not alone in that sentiment because pretty much 1/5 of the YTB comments on the CDLC videos assert that sentiment too
with the new 1.1 update, there are new server parameters for extraction which allow you to skip tasks. skipping tasks that way will grant you some intel. it's not the same as a real savesystem, but it should work well enough in mp (since you can't collect money, etc. anyways and the virtual arsenal is free to use at any time)
so basically, before you end your mp game, check which tasks you have finished and then you can disable them in the parameters before starting the mission again next time
it's simply how CDLCs work. nothing we can do about that.

people can assert that sentiment, but including CDLCs as main branch is outside the scope and contract for CDLCs. It will never be added to the base game as a traditional, BI-developed DLC, and that's okay. Western Sahara is already at an incredibly accessible price point, my unit had 95% ownership of it within a few days of release and we folded it (and the compat, for the few who did not own it) into our modlist just fine
The new update rules. The new guns are top quality, improve gameplay in interesting ways, have great animations. Since A3 released I’d been hoping for an AA-12 and you guys nailed it, going above and beyond in ways big and small.
I'm not sure if this is a bug or not, but the XMS is extremely quiet with a suppressor, like you can barely hear it quiet.
I am 16 years old so I don't have much experience regarding contracts but what I do know is this: 1) For a commercial company, nothing is ever set on stone, meaning that their own policies, rules and even contracts can be updated/modified. Those need to be flexible in order to accommodate different countries' laws, regulations and unique/changing markets, steam policies etc. 2) Most commercial companies, specially the smart ones, will always try to fulfil their costumers' requests/expectations even if that means changing their original plans, in order to secure more sales and accessibility for their products, specially if those products are still at the beginning of their sales cycles. (I by "beginning" I mean the CDLC and not A3)

The majority of Arma 3 owners do not own any of the CDLCs, and don't want 80-100 gigs of DLC burning up their hard drives, BI understands this, and that's why they made the decision from the start to not include the CDLC content to the base game. I agree that this isn't the place for this discussion.
You can just grab the data for non-owner data pack thing and use that to have the content in base game without having to the mount the CDLC - I think.
This CDLC is 5GB not 80/100 GBs so your comment went completely off the rails... second we are talking about BI's CDLC policy on the CDLC channel, why is that inadequate? Why is talking about one of the most requested aspects by the players regarding the CDLC wrong?

Again just download the workshop addon if you want to play with others without having to mount the CDLC. It's literally just one button press.
I already own the CDLC so I don't need the workshop addon. People are suggesting this (not only me) EVERYWHERE because it could help with sales and with people using the content of the CLDC on the workshop extensively. Otherwise you end up fragmenting the community even more. But I guess you have already been brainwashed so much by this outdated model that can't see past what IT IS from what IT COULD BE regarding sales and utilization. It is sad to see amazing initiatives such as this buried, obscured and hidden as workshop mods or external CDLCs but whatever, it is BI's money anyway

Jesus, you fail to realize that it is not a solution for me what people are asking but a solution to how available and how the WS content is promoted. BI knows that having DLC content as part of Vanilla helps with sales immensely because you make your content visible for all A3 players and not just those looking at the CDLC model. I guess you and the others "tried" to help but did not even understood the suggestion in the first place...
Also, I did not produce any half baked insults because me using the word "brainwashed" refers to something that happens to all of us and it is an external attribute meaning that it is not something coming out of your doing... So I am sad and sorry that you interpreted it that way
My man you need to understand - at least in my opinion that isn't associated with anyone - WS nor the majority of the people in this Discord could help you with that. I've said in the past to friends that I would've loved to been able to get the shields and gun-drones in the base game, but ultimately it's a entirely different company's policy that's affecting this.
You can absolutely mention you want it like that, but it isn't in the hands of anyone here barring BI that can change it.

@hallow widget I don't know if this should be put in a ticket, but I noticed that the CTRG Desert JTAC unit has a laser designator, but the unit does not have a designator battery in his inventory, so he is unable to laze targets. I don't know if that is intentional or not, but it seems like it may be an oversight. Again, awesome update, thanks to you, and your team.

in 3den editor, open the animation viewer and select the camel from the list in the top left. there you can see all animations. sitting is camel_down_idle/camel_down_idle2
problem with dlcs that come installed with the base game is that they can be enabled through hacks, cldcs have been protected from that because they require extra download

Arma 3's best piracy protection are its often updates and mods. Pirates have to update their releases so much and players have to update their builds that it is just easier to pay those 7 USD of the base game anyway.
Apparently CSAT (Desert) does not show up in public zeus servers of WS. Neither does new Kamysh. And also global chat is still turned off

Anyone else feel like the UAV (IED) bombs seem like they're might not be working properly against vehicles? With no mods loaded, I can drop multiple bombs on a thin-skinned vehicle and can't tell if It's damaged at all. I have yet to RC the driver as zeus to check, but it at least seems underpowered.
I have been able to kill infantry which aren't in cover with the bombs, so I at least know they're working somewhat.

Hmm true, somehow I can't even make a scratch using 58mm AT and IED Drone while I can destroy it using SLR like 2-5 shots

its not a timed projectile but an impact one so distance does not matter

I've shot an offroad with SLR and its 58mm, it can destroy, with IED Drone and its 58mm, it can't
no idea then. what's happening with the drone is that it spawns a bomb which has submunition, which has the AT penetrator submunition
so maybe something is wrong there, i don't know
Yeah, IED UAVs AT bomb seems too weak, whilst it should be stronger then rifle launched one for having higher velocity when dropping to earth + hitting the weakest point of vehicles (top)

Heat weapons are independent from velocity... they can be placed or going mach 10 it does not effect its penetrations

You can still use all of it in base game without needing to load the DLC
the only real benefit to it being a bohemia dlc would be that u could then use the assets in ur missions without owning it. I dont own contact but i use the livonia assets all the time
same applies for CDLC's, just load the compatibility mod

Just like Contact, you can play on any server with Contact content (except terrain). The only benefit is you don't need an additional mod.

you can access them through editor, you can access them through config, there is no need to rip them, because why? GlobMob is EBOd too and people still make maps using their assets

It's not that easy. You need access to the models on the disk and they must be in their "real" paths for them to show properly while creating the terrain.
IIRC GM has released a pack with low quality versions of their models so you can use them for terrain building.
oh, I was almost certain that all you need is just to own the CDLC and later add it as a dependency (I believe Cham is a map using GM assets and it requires that CDLC to be loaded along with that terrain), just like most workshop maps seem to be, my bad then

Such set of assets don't happen automatically unfortunately so you likely need to wait a bit in case they get made.

SOGPF beta testers have started few maps (unsung remix and some others too if I recall right) as they have access. But so far there has not been really much asking after those so it has been a bit low priority to set up.

Base game data is always loaded with the base game, so you can use SPAR reload animations anywhere. But CDLC assets are not, since they are not always loaded
If a Mod uses a part of CDLC stuff, you need to load it to use the Mod properly

what do you mean false? you can select the game mode when you set up the game, also there is some Alchemist gamemode in official server list
Multiplayer -> Host game -> select Sefrou Ramal map -> choose Alchemist -> you can play

For me CDLC this is a "rake" for content variability.
Maybe at least add drones, equipment and weapons from Western Sahara to Contact so that you can play on the main Warlord servers with mandatory content.
Western Sahara is not BI's work, they can't just "add" content that is not theirs.
Strange... Western Sahara is very similar in quality and style to BI's work.
VBS and Arma 3 are very similar in quality and style too. This doesn't make them being a work of the same studio.
Cedeing WS to Bohemia would require legal issues to be solved, money to be paid to Rotators for selling/outsourcing that stuff, more money used on implementing WS as a base content and additional work for BI to keep it up to date and fix stuff, which is already pretty hard to maintain when a lot of employees are focused on Enfusion and AR/A4.
and this also means less money if not a complete cut off for OG creator

NATO 7.62 rounds are 7.62x51mm. So Polpox is correct, there's slight differences & pressures but they are essentially close enough to be considered compatible.

The graphical properties for example, are similar to ARMA 2, but all in all technologically superior..

That feature seems to be available in the optional params when starting the campaign in Multiplayer. You can probably only skip tasks when starting a new campaign, because I don't know how that would work on a running campaign...

Actually quite easy. Both the Velko and Galat have mag proxies. With a few lines of config you can make the Galat fire 5.56 and feed from the Velko mags. And voilá, you get exactly what you asked for
I plan on doing just that for a mod I'm working on. But I have little time to work on it, so it'll take a while
server should be set to CDLC branch so it gets all the CDLC files

that said, as the description explains, the missions were made in 7 days, so expect quality of that level.

My SOG AI mod was just updated to work for Western Sahara DLC. This makes squad control easier and more effective. This is just for SP right now. In MP, the Extraction mission will spawn you a team, but the Fast Travel parachuting will leave your team behind (so that needs to be fixed. The other MP missions currently allow spawning in Vietnam teams, so that needs to be fixed to allow picking Western Sahara ION and UN groups. This is a great DLC. I love the weapons, uniform and map. And I really appreciate that the populated areas were designed with gaps between objects so AI can path find pretty well. This is an incredible value for 7$!!!! The price of a pint in a pub.
BTW, to use SOG AI with Western Sahara, you have to have Prairie Fire DLC loaded (along with WS of course).

by default, ctrl+ right mouse button while in 1st person as drone pilot will enable the free look camera. it works exactly the same as on the demining drone from laws of war

Question: In WS SP, if you fast travel parachute, your AI team is teleported to parachute with the player. This works great for my SOG AI mod. But in MP where I spawn an AI team for the player, the newly spawned AI buddies are not teleported during Fast Travel. My code can detect when fast travel occurs. Can I call the same function you call in SP to fast travel the AI? What's that function call?

SOG AI just updated so you can play the MP missions solo using SOG AI. Just start a LAN and choose Extraction, Last Stand or King of the Dunes missions. After mission start, a "Spawn AI Squad " action will appear allowing you to pick the group you want to play for this mission (ION, UN, or SFIA).
I encourage you to first play Extraction with ION as the story intends. But this feature adds more replay-ability and makes it easy to try the other great factions and weapons. Also, thanks to Lexx's code above, I fixed MP Fast Travel to include your AI buddies.

Saving is disabled in multiplayer
mp mode has parameters that allows you to skip tasks. so you can remember what you already did and next time boot up the scenario with those tasks disabled. it also in general helps to speed up the scenario if necessary
hey @hallow widget , how did you guys managed to enable the team switch UI in extraction? I can get it to show on death but not at any time like in extraction
it's normal game feature. just place multiple units with "playable" setting enabled and it should work fine
then press team switch button and there it is

No mods but a single loop on the player, I will disable all scripts and then try again
try in an empty mission file. place player + ai unit with playable

Ok, the issue was in EDEN, I had teamswitch enabled under the multiplayer tab but had it on "Switch to group member", when changed to "switch to side member" the UI worked... tried it back to group member and the UI doesn't show again... weird because one would think the UI should work for both

I have 6 playable units on the same group, when setting the team switch option in EDEN under "atributes/multiplayer" to "switch to group member" the UI breaks, and it only shows when you "respawn"...
No mods and no scripts running... but running the mission as Hosted Multiplayer under EDEN... perhaps if I leave EDEN and host it normally the issue will go away...
Ok so just tried it outside of EDEN and the UI doesn't work unless I set the team switch to "switch to side member"... it is clearly buggy because why wouldn't it work when limiting the options to the group members...
At least I found a workaround so that will do 😉

the scenario can be really tough, but once you got the hang of everything, it's actually really easy

once you freed the hostages, there is one wave of enemies spawning outside from one direction. you should try to clear the building first, then you only have to bother with them, which shouldnt be too difficult anymore
they always come from the same direction
in theory you could also try to snipe them from the roof. lob some HE shotshells at them
Is there also some probability for opponents to be on the roof too, I'm in the process of climbing the ladder and get shot up sometimes
hostiles in the building have predefined spawn positions, but they can spawn in random "slots"
try not to use the ladder, there are other ways up
also, if you see an enemy behind a corner, you do not have to try to get around that corner. sometimes it is better to walk back and take a different route

wasn't too bad. needed 4 attempts in total, to get back into it, and because thanks to arma i got stuck on the stairs once. though i agree it might be a little hard for people who didn't play through it 1000 times like i did.
will tweak the ai skill level a bit for the next patch.

You need to restart or load the save with GM enabled. It's how Arma works, it needs to save the addons list that were present during the saving to prevent issues.

the ifrit can be taken down with the normal gun. for the angara tank you have to use the guided missiles
usually 1 good hit should be enough. you just have to get him from the side, without the tank spooting you first
still, I really like the UNA camo so it'll be nice if the vests, headgear and backpacks have it too lol

That error in line 1719 appears in fn_ambientCars under condition that: lxWS_currentTask is nil and no player is connected to server, _center = allplayers select 0 cause [] select 0 is nil.
This however isnt the cause for it to not work. But rather seems like global variable lxWS_CurrentTask is never set. Probably isnt the only thing that isnt set, as all the map markers are also missing.
i went over the scripts again, just to see if there is anything obvious, but it looks fine to me. this really feels like a linux-only issue. would be good to know if other linux users experienced similar or if it works for them.
Hmm, if the issue is with allplayers, there is a caveat. I ran into this for Force Recon and was able to solve it:
The complete array of allPlayers may get delayed on mission start in multiplayer. Use BIS_fnc_listPlayers to obtain it earlier.

No sir, not that I'm aware of, it was a 0/6 Sahara mission server that I believe default catered to the DLC. I can try and double check later possibly.

By the way, if there's specific commands to instruct "follow" and "mount up", it would be ideal to tool tip prompt them after the guy is rescued. A lot of players have 0 experience with ARMA NPC commands when they first try new content.
tooltip could be placed there for sure, but it wont solve this issue when journalist cant get into vehicle assigned by player.
you could do what is done in aa40 showcase, if he was supposed to be following, but distance is > some meters, teleport, right behind player (group leader)

Hmm interesting. I finished the Extraction scenario yesterday in solo and commanding the reporter worked fine.
That's the issue that has been reported over the past couple of years, some experiences are yielding a lack of command responses or access to the commands. Which key combinations were you using for the command functions?
I just use the default keys for commanding units. Have you changed your bindings?
Perhaps some binding combinations don't work how they should for some actions?
I personally have not adjusted my commands since returning to ARMA, but I know from jumping between missions/mods that there are external forces that alter what command does what, and it's entirely possible there's default key adjustments not being reset; that's one possibility
The reporter will join the squad of one of the players and can be commanded as an AI subordinate by that player only.
After that he's subject to the issues of AI commanding, prone to getting stuck, etc. But that's a base game issue
Ooooh see, that may be the root of the error. I don't recall him ever joining squad. Only going friendly and halfassedly following but not getting the hint to hop in vehicles with us and having no commands to tell him to do so. I tried forming "teams" but nothing happened.
Did he show up on your command bar on the bottom of the screen? If not he was under command of another player

I don't remember how the join squad function works in extraction, haven't played it in a while. Nevertheless even if you were all in one squad, only the Squad leader could command him, and he would show up as a new unit on the command bar. But I have a faint recollection of Lexx saying the journo joins the player who finds him. Although if that's the case I've had varying experiences with that

btw since the 1.1 update there are mission parameters to skip tasks. it's a replacement for the lack of a save system. this way it's possible to speed up mission progress / can resume a late game state without having to start from scratch.
just saying, since many people are missing this.
