you need to broadcast a music track on the squads freq to get them to contact their HQ with their callsign

@stoic hinge Sometimes low FPS bugs out the missions and you have to completely restart (even saves keep the bug).
The true fix for Contact and Livonia will probably come with Content Update 1.96 but that will take a long time
If BI had a "delay release until it is more playable policy" (such as what Creative Assembly implemented after Rome 2 was a mess on release) then BI would have much better reviews and far more players. Instead they most of the time just rush releases and players have to wait for 2 or 3 patches for it to work as intended.

You can easily check your FPS if mid game you go into your video options. It will show your current FPS on the top

Is new offroad free or need contact ownership?
Changelog says it's free for everyone, but when I used it in my last mission my unit got watermarks, and information about not owning DLC when trying to be driver
Yep its part of the free platform update but non-dlc owners get Watermarks and only DLC owners can drive it @sage merlin

My idea is to use the native lock on/sensors
Fires a invisible missile, which then tracks said target with the lock. Like actual missiles, can be defeated, missed, ect. Which counts as "failed hacks" in the players eyes.
I was thinking of not just drone hacking, but causing weapon misfires, killing car engines, ect.

then there is the terrain which is also in enoch but not free. and the DLC campaign exclusive items like all the alien stuff
Contact (Platform) is not completely free - all weapons & vehicles from it are behind the a3 dlc paywall
Pure Contact is not distributed to non owners and contains campaign + aliens

I collected a sh*tton of guns and explosives and Im kinda disappointed I have to leave it all behind.
Im playing Contact again and this time im going full mental killing every LDF I can find.
I was able to keep my primary and most my gear for the entire campaign.
Yeah, the rifle and whatever you have in uniform and vest is transfered but what about some other container? I guess there isnt one.

I think it's related to Contact theme. I'm making a scenario where player can intercept enemy comms in the area, but he needs to have a cryptographic key (a random string), which is obtained from dead enemies. Do you have any other ideas related to that? ๐ Maybe someone knows this topic?
Been playing Contact in veteran mode for hours now, for the total immersion with no unrealistic compass markers etc
BUT OH NOES! The damn spectrum device shows the markers anyway, that kind of destroyed it for me ๐ฆ
Also when you get an "Eddie" later in the game, and start taking samples, you control it without any type of terminal at all ๐ฆ

Random question but; When playing the game with Contact activated it changes up the colors of things in the game, which I'm more then fine with cause I like blue. But when I went to mess around in editor making a mission, my vehicles info in the top left is now missing the speed or other info. How would I get that back? Otherwise I have to play with the DLC deactivated cause well...I play Arma for vehicles almost more then runnin' and gunnin', I need my speedometer lol.

I also would love to understand the maths behind that mapping device because I really didn't see any connection between my position and the exact color on the map, other than it showed more or less the same value/color, depending on where I was standing.
But to answer your question @proud spade just walk around and open the map every 100m or so and try to figure out where the roots seem to be and where they are heading, based on what you seen on the map and follow them ๐คทโโ๏ธ

Hi, guys. I noticed that I can not use the firearms and vehicles in the contact , but I can use all of the weapons in apex dlc and marksman dlc, even though I have not bought those dlc. Just want to know why, is it because I bought this game before they started selling the contact dlc?
you can use them with the dlc prompt but you cannot pick them up from corpses or the ground, works this way for every dlc iirc

Does anyone know how the devs managed to make the Contact missions' moon be so much brighter than the fullest moon on regular Arma 3 maps? (Script wise or whatever method they used).

I have long seen mission makers struggle to get the lightning just right for their missions needs... so I don't see why having more room to operate would hurt anybody other than when used for cheating but there are already scripts out there that fake Day lightning during the night anyway....
Also... it would be great to have a command that allows lights to work on the day just as if it was night... some underground mods need to be played at night because the lights only work at night...

we tried with artificial (scripted) light sources, but that doesnt help in A3 any more

Full moon light greatly varies depending on the map for some reason... so on one map it could look clear enough and on other maps you cannot see a thing even with the fullest moon there is!
because maps take geographic position into account,. the moon will look very different on any given day if you are in say south africa than in central europe.
And that is why we need more control over the moon's brightness
lighting config doesn't actually have much to do with the geography
no, but the terrain config does along with sun/moon angles
and a whole array of other config entries
it effects timing, the angles etc but the amount of light is independent, you can take contacts lighting config and drop it on takistan or altis and it will look very similar despite being a great distance away from each other
You think AI measures real ambient lightning? I wouldnโt be surprised if it takes time of the day as guide

honestly if you want to patch that much of a terrain you be better served by creating a config patch mod for it, provided those authors allow it in their licensing.
the less script you have in anything, the better.
I'm sure there would be some things which could benefit form scripted configs (or being able to use scripts to modify configs), but I also can see a lot of exploits coming from that
I am making a Old Man like campaign only with scripts and it works like a charm, no mods needed... Besides with the amount of base content on A3 right now there is no need for mods to make great missions anymore.
if you want the easiest workaround for a bright night, pick a full-moon night in mid-late June. & set overcast to 0.
tbf... Old Man is a "simple" campaign with a lot of scripts, which is just packed as a DLC (like missions/campaigns on the workshop are also mods)
I wouldn't call it simple, it is 700MB in size (The PBO)... My mission is 12MB

By the way utility for finding full moon can be executed in editor with map loaded so it gives you date for current map
I am not a noob KK! I have a script that finds the fullest moon on each given year and sets the mission at the start on that Date...
But like a said... its current usefulness varies from map to map and sometimes I need players to see every detail like in CONTACT

we are discussing that even on the fullest moon on some maps/situations mission makers might need their players too see better because the fullest moon current brightness is not enough... exactly like how BI needed players to see better on their night CONTACT campaign so they did some config tweaking... So all I was suggesting was to move that config tweaking to a easier way of modding it.
and @stable vine no one ever complained about the sun brightness... only the visibility at night... I have seen hundreds of complains about that...
even in DayZ SA it was a mess at first as players wouldn't see shit at night and that was changed!
What map you cannot set full moon on?
It is not that you cannot set the moon to full... it is that even with the moon on its fullest light (moonIntensity = 1) it would still be dark (visibility not good enough).
Example map: LIVONIA for starters (That is why BI had to resort to config editing).. but also Kulima Island which I am using for a horror mission...
PS: I've never actually seen a moonIntensity of 1, the most I've seen is 0,98... but I hope you now get the point
Perhaps a command such as "moonIntensityMultiplier" could be added that is 1 by default and could be set to 1.4 to increase it etc. (Or to lower it if for some reason you want a full moon but not so bright night etc).
An example scenario that would greatly benefit from having an unlocked moon brightness multiplier are the Streamers and Youtubers that when streaming on night missions get barely half the views of day missions because their viewers after video compression and things cannot see sh**t....
Having a command like that would enable them to server side change the darkness of the night in the missions they are playing and make streams much more enjoyable/profitable and also a much better advertisement for BI's flagship product without having to mess around with tedious config fiddling/tweaking.

well, for starters you could put that piece of code in your init.sqf and see how good it works
by the way, these two variables control the brightness and color:

Ok so the reason the light is located at 0,0,0 is because:
- Its brightness is enough to illuminate the whole map from there.
- If you set it somewhere visible it looks like a permanent flare in the sky

Here's an opinion on Contact! It is an excellent piece of work and it was PLENTY of fun to play. But I thought there was a bit too much talking, especially from the central character, the 'hero.' Bad voice acting, I wished he would just shut his goddamned mouth. All the other voice actors were pretty good though
OldMan is much better in this aspect of voice acting, because it is mostly SILENT = )
Game developers should keep this painful truth in mind: 99% of actors / voice actors are BAD
that's why there are THOUSANDS of people trying every year to make it in Hollywood, and yet, there is only a really good new voice every couple of years. Not even every YEAR. 999 OUT OF A THOUSAND ASPIRING ACTORS ARE BAD. Don't force them on us in games, for the love of God!

It causes the AI to patrol a given area. I used it everytime I run the game with the Contact dlc running.
That's probably why. I know in the campaign the AI patrol with that waypoint.

it works if you only enable it after the intro before defusing the drone something about the sim combat gets broken with Ace at that point after that just make sure medical auto-replace is off and it works thru the whole campaign

wrong channel @mossy mauve really that would be more in #arma3_questions but some servers have mod lists, and are exclusive only to those 'accepted' using a not allowed mod can result in kicks. trying to join a Tanoa map without Apex to own Tanoa or Contact to own Livonia will do the same as you dont own it (and that doesnt stop it from being listed unless you got your filter settings to not show them) Hope this helps. Also not all servers assign your role and you have to pick one then join button should un-gray itself.

@dry wren it's the first channel you have the right to write in (besides #general_chat_arma, at the very top ) if you start at the top of the channels and go down one by one. Maybe that's why?

I think people forget, outside of the more regulated discords, there is a vast large sea of ungoverned/poorly governed discords out there.
To be fair I'm slightly annoyed when I hear people here saying things like "it's because most people are just dumb/idiots" because that's a massive oversimplification.
I'd rather venture another explanation: people don't read text that:
- is smaller (the channel "categories")
- that usually doesn't convey any meaningful information (channel description) [because the channel title is usually enough to understand what the channel is about]
I even caught myself usually not reading the channel description.
You think I'm an idiot? Then tell me, without looking, what is the description of THIS channel? Should be easy, right?
Now think of "that other discord" that you usually use (but are not a moderator of). You know and can name the channels that are there but what are the categories there? Can you actually name them? What are the descriptions of the channels that you use the most? You probably don't know.

That information usually isnt really important once you know what each channel is for though
Hence why I recommend slapping DLC some were on the title. Because I agree, I only generally read the description of a channel if A. The title isn't quiet clear, and B. It might be a more debating style channel like politics, so there might be special rules in it.
