Is contact worth buying?
i'd say so yes definitely but there are parts in the campaign that are quite bad with nothing to do and just having to walk very long towards the next task but other then that its awesome i had a great time playing the campaign and the new features are great too
The terrain is excellent ; the campaign is great if you like hard sci-fi

Is the spectrum device just a RP tool or is there a way to set certain items to make it work. Not sure how it works in MP missions
it doesnt have actual functionality outside of the campaign
however there is a mod to give it back its functionality (or at least some) using modules

if you turn on the contact DLC itself in the arma 3 launcher, then you get access to contact modules, in which i think you can put in radio signals which are going to be able to be readen by the spectrum device I suppose, never used it but I have seen those modules in game
I suppose you would have to require for everyone to own the contact DLC to even use the spectrum device, or be able to join the server at all because of the owner of the server itself having the contact DLC turned on itself, with the contact multiplayer mod in too
because otherwise, you wont be able to join any of the multiplayer servers with the contact dlc turned on, because of that option being simply locked, though being able to be unlocked by the so said contact multiplayer mod
contact ownership is ONLY required for the spectrum device holder(s)
i just wish they let us use the defunct EMP equipment as standard loadout itums

Well my message was that me and my friends play arma alot and alot of times my mates and I have troubles joining eachother, normally we can only join 1 out of us 3 and the only fix we have found is reinstalling the game completely, and the bad thing is 90% of the time the only mate we can join is the one that cant be bothered to put alot of effort in custom missions lol, so thats a pain.
Anyone know why this is?

Are there much public vanilla servers running Livonia?
I think KotH doesn't do it - the only one I know is Zerty/Jammy Warfare where you have to vote for it as the next mission, runs it time to time
There’s Zeus servers sometimes, but considering how few people have it
Usually the zeus servers dont get that many players with livonia stuff which is sad since i love playing with the contact assets
Does anyone here remember the name of the radar station mentioned in the Contact campaign? I typically refer to it as the Swarog radar station, but remembered it was given a specific name in the Contact campaign (XXX-42 or something like that?). Currently editing a mission so I don't want to reboot arma and change the modlist

Can bandits hunt us down once we aggroed one ?
They'll only chase after Rudwell for as long as you're still in the area around their camps.
Some of the bandits are placed in static positions (like inside the train carts, etc.) so they don't even move at all.

Is it possible to set up the Spectrum Device's jammer antenna so it can be used in multiplayer (i.e. outside Contact)? Perhaps, instead of using the Contact-only init functions for UAV/UGV, it would just kill drone pilots? Not sure If I'd have to config mod a new weapon or something though.
Just tried seeing if the Spec device can do anything outside of contact (like exist idk) and not even the screen showing frequency works :(
You can't use the spectrum device, however the chemical detector has some functionality outside of contact.
You can use it, but you need to script it yourself. Read "spectrum device" page in wiki.

You can't disrupt drones with it by scripting.
You can do almost anything with scripts. You could create "Fired" event handler and check if the player has a Spectrum Device in hands and a drone is in the way. If conditions are met, do the disruption script on the drone. You have to write everything yourself of course.
If it doesn't explicitly say that you can do something doesn't mean you can't do that, you just have to work out ways to make it work.
The "disruption script" maybe something along the lines of
drone disableAI "TARGET"```

It does for me, not sure for anyone else since it's the first time I mentioned it here.
I threw an MOS scope and bipod on it. You can just plug people if you hit a spot without armour.
SPAR 16S with 30 round Mag + MOS, best.
Is it better to play with JSRS Sound mod + Blastcore, or without mods? first time
That 75 round mag from WS is pretty nice. Big capacity without looking as ridiculous as the 150rnd drum
Hello, who knows how to change the aiming reticle on the TMT mod?
Blastcore may cause AI to shoot you through smoke while you don't even see them, but JSRS and Enhanced Soundscape are a way to go

As a starting point, I suggest the "Spectrum Device Funtionality - Rebuilt" mod. I plan to make some missions involving it for my arma group, and it seems like the most functional way to use it in multiplayer, as far as the engine can allow

i mean it's playable most of the times, you may notice lags in the later parts of the campaign when you are close to one big city or when a fog shows up
but otherwise I finished it with average 40FPS on my R5 2600X
i see, i order a ssd now. Dont think it may fix all the fps problems, but if there is alot of loading in assets and scrips, it may help

Performance/profiling binaries that are released now on the performance steam branch contain potential fixes/improvements that may be included in future Arma releases. So by using that branch, you can literally get these sooner

I don't think you will get any errors loading in all the CDLCs but I wouldn't recommend it due to their massive size and the inability of getting any items from those CDLCs within Contact

Contact menu is different, and won't let you choose the dlc campaigns. I think you can do the normal missions just from the missions tab, but from what I remember the full campaigns are hidden

enoch contains such as, Livonia itself, LDF, Spetz, Promet, AK-12 variants, Hunter Shotgun... you know, things you always will see in-game. contact is, mainly alien and the campaign itself
why Contact itself cannot be decrypted? I understand that it contains some experimental stuff but if it works for the campaign, why not release it "publicly" even as a part of the dev branch?

Livonia is awesome, soundtracks are useful for mission making, LDF has a sick camo and is overall a good INDFOR faction, Russians are also pretty cool and you can even use them in missions far away like Malden with their more arid uniforms

Map could be great but has very low perfomance and isn't played in public multiplayer.

Also, for me, it's totally worth it for the campaign which I enjoyed greatly, but that's down to personal preference, I guess

Running in the woods alone, during the night, was what made me fall in love with OFP so that's probably also why I enjoyed Contact's campaign that much.
That's why I'm saying it's down to personal preference, as you seem to be someone who is simply looking for something else in a DLC/Expansion (and that's okay, people siply need to be aware that everyone here may be looking for something different, when they say they want to "play Arma")
I'd say I suggest you to give the original OFP campaign a try, but it's twenty years too late for that 😂
Cold War Rearmed 3 is pretty good mod for Arma 3 that let's you play OFP campaign in Arma 3. With all characters, gear and stuff.
And about Contact - it's pretty good DLC. You get not so long, but interesting campaign with special Spectrum Device, you get to experience "Adapt to conditions or die" type of scenario. And without running Contact, Contact Platform also gives you access to beautiful Livonia map, Promet weapons, Kozlice shotgun, Looter clothes, LDF uniforms and Tracksuit, aswell as Spectrum Device, that unfortunately doesn't work except for duration of First Contact campaign.
Campaign itself is pretty good written and has interesting storytelling, but there are parts where game just throws you out into open and doesn't tell you what you need to do, so you have to walk around and actually find stuff yourself. And BI did nail it with night atmosphere - missions are very good, with their own music.
Overall, I would say, Contact is worth getting it 100%. It's better to get it on sale, as it costs almost same as base game.
10/10 would pretend to be Grey Wolf and tell some LDF squad fake orders again
Theres even a mod that gives the spectrum device (limited) functionalitu without Contact loaded!
I'm always in the editor and find myself using Contact assets whether I plan to or not, I definitely suggest it.

so I was trying to fix Aegis RPK's reload animations
I noticed that Aegis RPK was using the AKM reload animations
and the AKM has awkard reload animations when trying to load the 75 round mags
but the AK-12 has the correct reload animations for the 75 mags
and also BI's RPK-12 also uses the AK-12 reload animations
in the functionviewer, for RPK12 it says: reloadAction = "GestureReloadAK12"
so I try to give the Aegis RPK reloadAction = "GestureReloadAK12"
and then I realized simply having the "GestureReloadAK12" doesn't correct it
I also need to change the handAnim[]= { "OFP2_ManSkeleton", "\A3\Weapons_F_Exp\Rifles\AKM\Data\Anim\AKM.rtm" };

I realized I could just check in the config viewer for the handanim for the rpk 12
but the rpk 12 handanim uses a foregrip but the aegis rpk doesn't
so I used this

Like where it works normally in single, every once in awhile it will just reposition him for some reason.

How can I get clients to load contact when they join my server? There is no server key in the contact folder 😦
The A3C key should be in the primary Keys folder for the client. For Server, you need to be on the special Contact branch.
@hybrid stump thanks for letting me know. Is the special contact branch the development branch? Or do i just run enoch and contact mods on the server?
The special branch is only needed for the separate Dedicated Server app (Arma 3 Server). It's called contact (Contact Build).
All clients should have the Enoch / Contact data, but they will need to start the game with -mod=Contact to load the optional part.

Contact campaign is not that scary tbh, as long as you don't sprint all the way hoping noone sees you you're gonna be okay, one Apex mission where you have to move through a field while CSAT pop flares around and are actively searching for you brought me goosebumps
