I'm curious what the reason for this is. Does it apply only to the mod thumbnail and preview images selected when uploading, or also to other things?
I think it could use little bit more clarification - any and all real life photos? Even just a photo of a gun the mod is about? Also, all the mods, or just public ones?

I completely agree that having images of the actual asset is preferable, I was just surprised you would completely ban any use of photography because of this.

Screenshots just take up Mod space. Our console players are complaining about every addition MB

I would be tempted to allow comparison photo in this specific case. But I'll have to mull it over a bit.

I would guess most real life images uploaded to steam are in violation of the steam workshop rules

I mean both options without people having to force-download the other one

Regarding screenshots, might be a good opportunity to add some additional information to the Preview Image/Screenshots tabs similar to the external info the License tab carries.
Awareness of these new rules at the point of upload seems fair.
What about images that have the name of the mod? Or an icon/logo that I have made/have rights to? If it's a small mod that changes some small script it will be hard to showcase with a real in-game image
Name image is fine as long as its not real life image.
IMO the better approach to solving the representation problem would be to require asset mods to include asset screenshots, not to just ban them from using photography.
I'll pass that on for consideration. Right now real life photos are and stay forbidden.

Image technical specs have not been outlined as far as I know and Im not sure there is any need for such.
User monitor/hardware varies so much there isn't really much coming ground.
What looks good on your screen should suffice. Common sense with resolution. 2k HD picture is way too much for simple preview. It is not an art gallery so to speak.
Just to give an example: if I know the layout area for the thumbnail is only ever 400x300 pixels (or that aspect ratio), that helps me make an asset that’s not 1200x1000

The preview image is indeed combined with the mod on download as you see it as the preview in the ingame workshop. The screenshots I dont know. but since workshop shows them, they are downloaded at some point, taking disk space.
If workshop process them I dont know either but I can look into that too. Gut feeling is that it does not do anything to them automatically.
My pkp-b and pkp-b_test are the same size despite the live mod having some pretty big pictures (that i plan to resize), but both shows the same size. Right now i tried to download them back from workshop and they were converted to like 400kb jpegs. Its a mystery to me
We don't really know usually.
**NOTE: **
Use of real photos is forbidden with the exception of comparison photos of real scenery and screenshots of the game.
Both comparison images need to be combined into a single picture!
Note that you still need to have rights to use such photo material (self taken photo, permissive licensing, authors permission etc) .
Also avoid photo of specific private property unless you have written approval from the owner or are the owner. (means closeups photos of houses, gardens etc.).
Please remove any infringing photos from your mod entires.
This would be good thing for a feedback ticket too so theres record of the need for it.

I’ve waited since 1.3 requesting if I could receive it still haven’t and with no update response or anything I can’t do anything. I have desperate changes that need to be made to that mod I would request a takedown however many use it and I simply just need my project sent back to me so I can modify the contents. Hello, I want to solve a problem, I can't add a person to contributors. I added his email to contributors, in Reforger it is visible that he is in the contributors lists, but the invitation does not arrive in tools. What should I do?

Yes, he is a contributor. I've sent him an invite to make a map together, but when he clicks "File > Check pending invitations" he gets an error which says "You have no pending invitations at the moment". He doesn't have anything new on his email, and we already waited a whole day but theres still no result.

There's no way that I can prove that I did not continue to "create mods", after I deleted every mod that I made

You yourself warned me personally to delete the mods, I did it in front of you at that very moment, then I didn't create any mods except for “Beketov”, which I didn't even post, but was in the process of creating
and 2 days after the first ban you reuploaded again.
It might be a mistake, because when I saw that the mod disappeared, I decided to make a backup of the mod and upload it again, and only after that I was notified about my assets from the map were deleted, and that mod wasnt even planned to be public, but theres no way that I can prove it jsut because I deleted everything after that.

I deleted everything I had available in Workbench, but there were also mods that I deleted locally but did not delete from Workshop because I could not manage them in Workbench itself. I already deleted the other mods as required (i.e., first from Workshop, then locally in Workbench).
This is a problem with Workbench itself, because I can't change a mod that I deleted locally or lost data from—just take it and delete it from Workshop.
the last offending mod was updated from 7.8.2025 to 4.9.2025

Three things I would love to see:
- Include the damn report in the message
- Include the reason why it was invalid

Is there a way to sync with your published AF workshop mods? I have one mod in 1.6 Exp, I reset my Workbench and restarting my mod from scratch trying to troubleshoot a problem.
GitHub is a good way of managing both
Preferred method. There’s alternatives however but it’s nice having control over both versions.
the workshop is not really a development repository. You are responsible on keeping backups of your project.
In Arma 3 we considered that and only allow browser opening by user interaction (pressing a button or link), so its not even possible to pop up suddenly mid game.
ACK. Is there a way to remove a mod I published if I no longer have the original files to do it from Workbench? I'm guessing I can just republish this fresh new version with the same name and it automatically links it if I'm the owner of the Workshop version
you can connect to it if you make new project and edit its .proj file and insert the existing mods id into it

It has been tolerated if mod "behaves like it was not there" with such protective methods. If money is involved in "licensing" that leads to permanent banning.

not that exact definition no.
Force changing scenario is definitely not qualifying for this. The idea is to e.g. not show a feature in UI, not enable a keybind for it. Crashing the server, spamming chat and or logs over and over which impacts gameplay and or performance, or ... you know ... load up an entirely differrent map than what the user wanted - are not allowed.
We intentionally keep it vague so some smart ass people do not come to us with "ahkquually

I don’t believe there was any direct assets maybe IP by name or 2D visuals however that was created with a 3rd party app to get the font.
I think main concern was a Stalker logo found in the files.

Hmm I think it may have been the text I used to be exact for the white banner for my pre SRF stuff actually good enough to know I am currently removing all of the self created logos for that reason within SRF that I did have a bit of a thought when it came to that even if it was 3rd party generated it looked a little too close to the official one.

tldr: am I allowed to take donations from new team members to expand to a 2nd region server for our custom game mode mod? There is no money contract its just new team members that will be running another server and donating for their share of server expenses.
Yes that should be fine. They can pay for their server.
Just to be 100% clear it will also be used for general development costs not just server, like models, tools, software whatever just regular dev stuff.
A mod team can contribute towards costs of development yes. I would advice putting agreement about that on writing though. And obtaining licenses to models for a team store account if you want to proof the setup for possible team leaving of members in the future

This has nothing to do with the workshop. Server owners can make up any rules they want. You are not forced to play on the servers.

moving my previous question to here about roundels and other flags and invasion markings representing current conflict, this is not about personal beef with any one community but im curious to know where the line is drawn so i dont get my work taken down
this is one of the first examples in found in #1049297536617291827 with some pretty obvious roundels that are represented in the current conflict (being the soviet star and the IDF Airforce roundel)
as you can see with my other image its very clearly still represented in current conflicts, which the raises the next issue why is the soviet star allowed on the mi-8 ingame since that too is basicly the same look in current conflict but if i added the ukrainian roundel it would be taken down because someone can use it to intend using it as a RU vs UA server or how am i supposed to understand it?

same can be argued for PGS why is that allowed? they are representing possibly real vehicles from the war and their logo includes a soviet star, which is still getting represented in current conflicts. There needs to be some proper guideline that doesnt change so we know what does and doesnt break the rules because intend is a flaky thing that can be changed by the person that is percieving it
the rule has been moderated mainly to remove distinguishable unit markers and certain designs specifc to ongoing conflicts
there is no exact list of things.
and that is mainly because such a list cant be fully definite as conflicts come and go
usage can vary and why do i have to essentialy make a gamble if my mod or model is used in any intended way by outside of myself? do we hold the people accountable running the server or the mod maker themselfes? if i were to put out a realistic model that represents how it is in the current arsenal of unspecified nation no 25, and someone puts it on a current conflict server will i get punished for it because it can be seen that i inteded for that use?

We discuss these things all the time. This is not really a thing that can be put into a list that would not need to change at some point when conflicts change.

Or if your content is really a huge issue (mocking some real life case or so), in other words if intention of such content is clearly malicious then it is direct moderation.
i get that but theres is still a possibility (tho a incredibly low one) for that to somehow end up in a real conflict, or what if i create a design for a vehicle for example that at the time wasnt part of a conflict but god forbid in the near future gets involved in a conflict, then you would have to retroactivly scramble to change it but then what if the mod identity is built on that exact feature, couldnt there be some clause or anything that can somehow protect it especially with such fast changing and often dramaticly changing things as global politics?
im aware that the team usually unless in rare cases gives time to change it unless wholey unco-operative but it would be nice that we have a slightly less vague guide to follow because i seen another bi member argue that even flags can fall within the category
thats my issue and my biggest complaint i have been having and i know im by far not the first nor probably last modder that will ask for slightly less vague guidelines on what is and isnt allowed because it leaves alot of people wondering why one thing is allowed and another isnt and especially only getting clarity only seemingly AFTER content gets removed or being brought up as problematic im sure can and probably is costing the team alot of headaches just like the community

There are mods, that have some items unliked to recent wars. That are fine because they explicitely restrict its usage on server or players that intent to recreate a current conflict.
The issue is when you deliberately create the medium for this usage

Because if the issue truly was only based on a cloudflare timeout then a workaround could be implemented to allow mods to be uploaded in more or less 30 minutes
We can understand the frustration but slinging hurtful allegations like that does not help. The work for solution continues we just can not explain in detail what is being done.
It is not a deliberate state to discourage modders from modding.

With that being said, according to this page https://reforger.armaplatform.com/workshop/5D58A217A9611AFB, your mod is licensed under an APL license, which means that (apart from a few other requirements) people can "adapt (i.e. modify, rework or update)" your work if they give you attribution.
In other words, that means that the author of that other mod has to mention that his mod is based on yours. Otherwise, it's a no-no.
There are a few other requirements to fulfill, that can be found here, but they seem to be less relevant to your question: https://www.bohemia.net/community/licenses/arma-public-license.

Are we allowed to pay people for work on making models if no enfusion or enfusion blender tools are used? The model would be made with the intention of being used in reforger but nothing related to enfusion would be paid work? I would make colliders etc myself then obviously do everything in workbench myself but model would be paid work? Thanks

And he asked 1 for money to make the mod( all enfusion based work no outside work) and 2 sent me to the re-mods website where it’s 50$ + to have them make basic stuff like configs etc

In same way as we have not banned Ukraine or Russia countries from mods. Israel related mods can exist but due to the ongoing war/conflict, real military identifiers and such can not be portratyed. Only a generic representation of the forces.
Hezbollah and Hamas may be more a problem though due to them being designated as terrorist organizations in places. So references to them may need removing.

you can get access to old mods by creating new one, saving it and injecting the old mods ID into the new mods config file
it wont get you your project files back, but you can then remove the mod via the workbench

It was because of a new rule of not being able to use real-life photos in mods, and since I used real-life photos, most of my mods would technically be violating that rule. I will once again reiterate that nothing bad happened, and I took this action myself. I temporarily removed all my mods, as I did not want the stress of having a mod that would technically be violating a rule on the workshop.
If you want more information regarding this whole real-life photos in mods rule, search up messages from HorribleGoat in the "enf_showroom" and "ip_rights_violations"

Beyond the use of real photos, we dont allow portrayal of real ongoing conflicts in mods. This has meant that no real unit/combat markings that are related to real ongoing wars can not be portrayed

If player was banned from the Server and Discord they must have done something so extreme that we do not allow ban appeal for.
I've always wondered if it was possible to make a mod that allows passengers to shoot out the vehicle while sitting for example snipers from helicopters, as well as a mod that allows the btr to use its top hatches allowing something like a "sky guard" role in modded servers with drones

This seems like the absolute fastest way to make no server want to use your mod, a lot of people just plug in random mods without reading licenses (bad on them obviously). But it could quickly make this an enforcement nightmare from BI's perspective.
Its really expensive to run servers...most of the servers you see online today would not be possible without donations to keep them afloat. Why fight against that?
I 100% understand people wanting to restrict their mods against monetization. But donations? Most people are not going to spend 100s a month to host servers without subsidizing it with donations.

I have a question, buddy in my server is looking to ask a friend of his to make a mod. Issue is his friend usually rips assets, and my buddy is under the impression that if you "customize or alter" a 3rd of the asset, it is permissible to use on arma. He said he saw it in the discord here somewhere but I'm pretty sure thats not true, and it'll still get our server banned.

For every asset, you either need to make it from the ground up or have permission to use it however you're using it.
If you rip (steal) an asset, it will always be stolen and therefore never allowed.

- My issue, I want to export a model with animations from blender to enfusion. I have Enfusion Tools but whenb i click export FBX or TXA - I am told workbench is not running, or port is already taken.

Is there an equivalent of workshopcrawler for Reforger? Or a way to see what mods are using my mod as a dependency?
I dont recall there being a crawler like that, but we have had some discussion about possible improvements for the workshop UI and being able to see dependencies and dependants would be useful yes.
However I cant make any promises on such at this time
So if someone uploads my APL-ND mod, with license infringing changes, to the workshop unlisted I can't actually find it?
as is its with the curren UI yes that is difficult
The crawler wont help with that though. Can't find unlisted mods, can't index unlisted mods.
Unless it starts trying random IDs, but that is very much not desirable
you would have to find a server that uses it and find the ID number for the mod

if you know the ID you can open the mods workshop page by inserting the ID to the link
and you can download the mod via server startup
You could easily find your own stuff through battle metrics presumably
I dont think that works for this use case
But I guess neitehr would dependency/dependant list since a reupload like that would likely not use the original mod as a dependency.
finding dependant mods with license breaking changes, yes

and a reupload with changes could be difficult to spot with automatic comparison too.
typically people caught doing that find themselves banned from workshop pretty fast because of such hiding means its intentional.

Ez, just provide a list of all unlisted mods. Solved ✅
Provide it to someone who can easily index it 
Battlemetrics API, gives you a list of all mods it knows about, with their name.
Then you can search by mod to find all servers that use it, and when you open a server's page you get the GUID.
Making a mappnig from BattleMetrics mod id to Workshop GUID.
Then like once a day pull the BattleMetrics mod list, and see if new id's appeared. If yes look up servers that use it, and add the GUID mapping.
If the GUID is unlisted on workshop, index it
I think battlemetrics only tracks top 100 mods or something BUT you can scrape all the servers to get their full mod lists and at least have a database of what's used

this is not quite the right channel for that. the modding channels like #enfusion_workshop would be more appropriate. But no we dont really have had coherent reports of upload issues
1.7 introduces a update to uploading which should fix the old issue

half the time workbench no longer even sees my Prefabs i have to make a whole new folder and drag them to the new folder its been.... fun lol
