It's newer and prettier, and has some features ARMA 2 lacks, but I would argue that ARMA 2 DayZ/Epoch has more features, more playability and it is still supported and updated by the community... And ofc, has all the assets and systems provided by ARMA 2 which DZSA doesn't (meaning modders have to add them in the latter, which is always suboptimal)

stop using Windows 11, it's complete trash made by the micro softs / micro slops.
Given how firmly A3 is integrated with the Steam Workshop, the chances of seeing it on GOG are pretty slim imho...
Arma 2 on the other hand, I see no reason (outside of Bohemiaยดs stubborn unwillingness) for it to not make a comeback. (go vote for it on the GOG Dreamlist if you havenยดt yet!)

Arma 3 will also fit but as complete edition that includes all content. That way mods become less relevant since with the CDLCs included you already get most of what content mods give you already

HE shells do absurd amount of damage in current patch, it renders the game almost unplayable eg. in warfare servers
eg. one (1) BMP HE shell is enough to kill Bradley

I get no servers listed in browser A2CO + DLC happened before with last beta and now. In fact if I switch to no beta at all I get pretty much the same. Once only I managed to get the servers listed, but no idea how. Tried several launchers, tried launching from steam, nothing...also tried switching profiles in game still no dice..anyone?

Anybody else encountered a glitch with black screen blinking every 1-3 seconds after game is loaded?

oh, cold war assault. yeah - steam version
after the game loads, it behaves as if loading screen was still in memory, and it blink once few seconds. all the time - no alt-tabbing, no resizing and reloading helps

I had a similar problem, but in the end CWA(OFP) locked up. I found the below trick worked for me and I've had no problems since. Is there a better solution, Probably, but its worked for me so far.
Run the ColdWarAssaultPreferences.exe again:
Under Advanced set your 3D Geometry to 2900, it'll probably be something like >= 10,850.
Set Total Memory to 2000 MB, and texture and file heaps to 16 MB each.
Under the Details Tab:
Set Max. objects: 256.
Set Objects LOD and Shadows LOD to 0.010 each.
Do not click AutoDetect again after performing the above.
Then
Go into: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\ARMA Cold War Assault\Users<<your user name here>>"
And delete "UserInfo.cfg"...

@kind wolf DayZ was released so early in early access, so that's why it takes time. The engine is still far from ready. Most early access or alpha games already have the engine in close to ready state. Arma 3 was more like a beta when it was released to early access and DayZ was pre-alpha.

- I don't really know much about this kind of games, but I do hear about dayZ-like games, and never about dayZ

hum kind of difficult question, I have ported several OFP terrains.
but if you mean official bis terrains then no, they are included in superb quality in Cold War Rearmed2 (CWR2) mod already.

its not all up to me, arma3 steam tools wont work having arma2 v2.5.1 tools installed, at least this was the case back in the arma3 alpha era.
It would be nice to see you and your stuff make the leap. The new generation could learn a thing or two from the "old guard".
some might argue that there is no point of porting low res stuff to arma3 and while I was strongly against this attitude in arma1 and somewhat bothered me in arma2... I tend to agree on arma3 ๐

first there is OA dedicated server package in Steam tools library
second, make sure the server runs without mods first, then add mods one by one and see where problem might be
third, dont add visual effect and sound mods to a dedicated server
they shold not run on a server there is not need for them there at all
network config might need adjusting

played some arma2 today, 4k resolution and nvidia drivers (gtx titan x, the 2015 model), when FPS goes above 200 ... something happens, vsync is off so it looks like huge flickering or vsync tearing problem. I guess something just goes nuts on the GPU drivers with such framerates or something. it happens when you look at the ground or sky, however the transition area is so large that I can often times get that crazy flicker on normal "view angles" so it effects gameplay. gotta try to tweak some stuff to get rid of it.
last year I played a lot and never saw that, it must be some new nvidia driver thing.

I didn't have any issues with a pair of 970's in Arma 3. I had flickering in Shadowplay sometimes but never in game.
I had a pair of 240's ,no issues
I was talking about arma2 hence this channel.
Even when I switched to A3, I still had no issues.
That was the nice thing about the previous Arma titles, as long as you had anything above a "low spec" PC, the game played fine.

any tips to get mouse working in Arma:CWA / OFP? for me it's jittery, doesn't response on small movements and so on. browsing menu is just a pure luck to get the cursor on right place and aiming is almost the same
oh hmm my dpi is 2000. I remembered that it was at the minimum but the minimum is 200. need to test that
ok the main problem seemed to be mouse refresh rate that was too high for the game and I also lowered the dpi

I got the aspect ratio addon which fixes how weird it looks, but mouse is still remaining issue for me to never actually play OFP.

found a reason why I got 4k fps above 200... my 3d resolution was 1080p ๐ฎ
no idea how and more importantly when it switched to that... I'd hate to think I've been playing using that config since I upgraded to 4k.
I reinstalled arma2 back in, well some time ago already but havent been playing much since, so dunno maybe it went on that install, just dont know.
although I watched some "4k" video of mine from summer of 2015 and at least in youtube it looks as crappy 1080p, but dunno if its because of the video youtube encode or whatnot.
funny though that last few days when I did VTE testing I was thinking that "damn VTE looks dated..." well DOH it looks dated because youre looking at 1080 res haha. I almost fell out of my chair when I switched 3d res to real 4k now ๐

Since callExtension or sendUDPMessage do not work - is there a way to write data in external file on Linux server in A2? diag_log is not a good solution because of parsing and 1023 byte limit.

About once a year my group get's into DayZ mode and we setup our own DayZ server. Play for a month and then uninstall again

@molten heron Arma 2 OA is still quite popular, and as for me i am currently developing a milsim unit for the game, nice to see that A2OA is still being updated as i thought it was abandoned. If you would like someone to test patches/updates i am down.
Also that fix for the black eyes is a godsent it felt like 11/10 times people were glitched

A2OA may be the most stable arma game tbh
this is so odd to see huge amount of patch releases now when I have moved to arma3 already and I thought I was the last stubborn sad soul editing it just for the principle heh. I wish we had these releases back then.
is this kind of like an hobby for some bis coder, or is this actually planned all along to finish the "EOL" thing with proper release?

well, while i do hope 1.64 will be really enjoyable closure type of patch
if someone want those new scripting commands, new alternate syntaxes, even better security and visuals then Arma 3 is logical way to go
next to hardware issues i can't figure out how A3+CUP+other mods can't match A2OA+mods offering ...
A2 will never die it has too much community addons , i dont A3 will ever match it
right but that is just argument of , the A2/A2O mod-content not being forward ported or remade from scratch for A3
i currently have A20A SA and for me its probably best value for money of all series beyond oFP
engine wise, A3 offers what A2OA lacks with near 1:1 compatibility for the A2OA content (if refurbished in way la CUP)
i think a very good Battke royale on A2OA would make this what you are doing here a very big sucess too
CUP is a monster in size i think a Takistan SA for A3 is much better way to go
i use CUP in terms of near whole A2OA content under A3 , as example
cause otherwise it will be like bu A2OA has what A3 hasn't, but nope, it does, with A3 CUP ๐คฃ
well CUP is a great initiative but for me as individual Stand alone Takistan is more managable

@vapid turret i got suggestion, try place new /battleye/beserver.so into /expansion/battleye/beserver.so (but afaik the old path isn't used anymore)

I put beserver.so at all places: battleye and expansion/battleye/ - no result.
I have no problems with launching 1.63.126652 linux server. I just replaced binaries and libraries.
And I expected that everything will be launched with the new version.

Every time when I use -mod para I get CA instead of Arma 2 in Expansion list.
imho it was the same with 1.63.x and all builds before
the game should use the registry driven mods detection , so question is if the path to A2 data is correct
otherwise you can just mklink /J the /Arma 2/Addons/ into /Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead/Addons/
but that's workaround not proper fix ๐

well the problem is with BattlEye , talking about Arma 2 DayZ Mod , the first time i installed the game i didn't notice anything about the error i'm currently getting
played normally for about 15 hours after i put some mods game started to Fu*k with me i uninstalled everything and re installed the game , i made sure i'd run games ; Arma 2 , then Arma 2 OA , then other expansions and last one DayZ Mode , after i'm joining about 90% of servers i get the error in the chat box >>BattlEye Client: Server Requiring cleint version 1.239, Up-to-date is it possible to fix or its just server runing an outdated Version ? i do can join one server only others kicks me because of same reason and i wnn play other servers too not only one , and other mods too , i uninstalled WithSix and dayz launcher because i tough they are causing the problem but the problem for 1.239 is still there

Its battle eye just not working so we can't join any servers. You can launch without Battle eye but you cannot do much then. Has anyone found a fix?

They would have known it did not work

Dwarden servers are saying battleye outdated and then game restarts for update, cant ge tin to any servers

Yeah, obviously it fixed itself for my Server and HC now by restarting the HC often enough. (After applying the manual fix)

ye, stuff is QA tested and as you can see we had months of public testing
community (e.g. around epoch and many other mods like koth/wasteland) helped to find those 'irks'
1.64 had way too many fixes and improvements so it was needed

My friend can't start Arma 2: OA in Fullscreen and with BattlEye enabled. He gets a blackscreen. The game worked fine the last time we played, which is a few weeks back. I can't tell when it broke, but I suspect some update caused it. Is there anything you guys would know about this?

2 errors now when players join. Rpk and gsu weapons. Also. Su39 crashes game when joining vehicles now since this bogus update that broke arma again.
I still donโt understand how an update is pushed. Untested it feels like with all these issues.

BTW @molten heron something is crazy in arma 2, were you can actually shoot ground vehicles with AA missiles in helicopters and airplanes like the Aim9c sidewinders and Aim 120.....etc can you fix that, i always mistakenly shoot T-72s with the Aim9c in the A-10 i will appreciate it ^ ^
@frosty oak That has to do more with the awareness of your weapons than anything that needs to be "fixed"
@lament inlet yes but it's illogical for AA weapons to be used on ground vehicles , and my mind use the Logic i played many simulator games and they doesent have this thing and its unrealistic

It's not unrealistic as you can still fire aa missile at whatever the hell you want even without a lock.

in the real life the missiles are connected to the Radar inside the plane if your radar is off and no target is in lock you can't shoot
