I've tried pretty much every suggestion above to try & fix the freezing related to W11, specifically 24H2 update. Nothing works. I'm not a tech guy but it's something on Window's end & no eta on the fix.

I recently uninstalled W11 & installed W10 & have been running with ZERO issues. Happy to help anyone that wants to revert back.

Yep, it's a Windows 11 24H2 problem. A few Assassin's Creed games have had the same problem, and Microsoft put out an official press release for it

Malloc is just a memory allocator, I don't think it will fix any Windows 11 issues. "The best option is not to use Win11"

GPU passthough is much easier than made out.
You don't need to do any of the stuff in videos..

Set up the VM with software VNC.
Load the VM.
Click to open VNC in web browser.
Install windows etc.
Set up windows user.
Close VM.

Then Go to top menu choose unraid -> tool system -> devices scroll down and tick the NVIDIA GPU or AMD GPU & its soundcard.
Reboot unraid.
Edit VM.
Add 2nd graphics card choose your AMD or Nvidia device.
Add sound card choose your AMD or Nvidia device.
Apply.
Start VM.
It should automatically install basic drivers for the card.
Now go to amd or nvidia websites and download the drivers for your card.
Run the installer for your card.
Reboot VM.
Now you have a gaming VM.
Enjoy.

I have a deep love for Arma 2 with the Dayz/Epoch/Origins mods and I'm just a few hours away from 10 000 hours in the game. For my own amusement I have made about 100 videos, mostly about Origins. I have been trying to learn everything I need to play, edit and create stuff like poi:s and stuff for servers. But it is getting really hard - it feels like you have to have a degree in computer science to be able to even play it now. Really frustrating and sad, but I still have hopes that smarter people than me in this forum and elsewhere will make it possible in a comprehensible way to be able to play the game with the mods on modern PC:s. It is really a sad time if this is "it"

My brother had an issue with arma 2 loading up. Would say cannot find path whenever it went to boot up battle eye. The fix was a complete reformat and reinstall of Windows 11 operating system and only upgrading to 23H2 update. Once 23H2 update is installed, turn off updates. Do not let update 24h2 install. The issue was the 24h2 update. If you install it, you have ten days to uninstall it before it's a permanent install. Good luck

I did try one of the fixes, where they said copy battle. Eye files from a good known source. That is working with the 24H2 update and paste them in your battle.Eye folder that did not work kept making my game crash

Hi, I'm an old DayZ mod fan, trying to get Arma2 working since 24h2 broke it.

I tried installing the patch above ^ for 24h2 but it didn't seem to work, I just now am trying again by wiping all arma2 and battleye folders (uinstalled from steam then deleted everything I can find including hidden files) and am reinstalling.

Just to make sure, when I install Dwarden's patch I should be replacing the default ARMA2OA_BE file as well as the Battleye folder with Dwarden's, that's all I should be doing?

I did the above and am able to launch Arma2 now, but now when I try and launch DayZ mod (from steam) it boots into ARMA OA instead. I tried enabling the Dayz Mod in the extension menu but still no go. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance

I'm not online 24/7, that's why I don't answer before, there are days when I'm online for many hours, and sometimes I have to travel for work, etc, etc...
On the other hand, if you took the time to read the thread I left above, I clearly explain the reasons why there is no matchmaking for A2, etc, etc, and there is no place to see servers, there are only 2 servers, at least that I know of, to connect you simply need to know their IP and port, but you said that it doesn't work for you.

The best thing is that if you don't have it yet, you buy ArmA 2 Operation Arrowhead, which does have matchmaking, and then you can run it as ArmA 2 Combined Operations.

Yes, the right solution is for Microsoft to fix its operating system, as I said a while ago. "It's very difficult to fix something that isn't broken..." both ArmA and Battleye work perfectly, the problem was the Windows 11 24H2 update that broke many things, many things don't work and among them Battleye.

But if you don't want to be targeted by anyone regardless of whether you're playing as a BLUFOR, REDFOR or INDFOR character, just apply the scripting command this setCaptive true to whatever unit you're controlling.

It should be noted that apart from the flag patch on the uniform there is no flag carrier with that flag in ARMA 2. The CDF one (FlagCarrierCDF) uses the Chernarus national flag so I'd personally assume that the uniform patch and the DayZ uniform patch and flag item are correct and there is no mix up on BI's part...

Im trying to play Arma 2: DayZ Mod on my new PC but after few minutes the game and my computer freeze, I can't do anything I have to manually restart my computer.

If you tried the windowed mode and it doesn't work, then you need to revert to win10 or wait

However this worked with one of our players on my server so idk what's up with that. Probably configuration specific, or got lucky

however installing ISO from unknown source to maintain win11 installation is not advised, unless you can trust that source or have nothing to lose if they inserted backdoor in to it.

Technically still playable. If you get the ERR_REGISTRER_EMPTY bug you can just boot up ArmaTactics.exe directly from the game's installation directory (instead of launching it via Steam).

I was able to boot it up again and my old profile from +7 years ago still works fine. Operation No Deal is unlocked for me and all of the Operators still have their XP intact.
AFAIK your in-game stats are stored locally instead of online so you shouldn't need to worry about losing progress if you can't connect for whatever reason.

@brave tulip ArmA works perfectly, battleye too, but with the latest update of windows 11 it makes battleye not work... So either you play without battleye or you go back to a previous version of windows, there is no other solution that works correctly.

2.01 was a CWA patch and goggle will point to other sources for it (which should be used at your own risk)

People have been having issues with BattlEye on ARMA 2 and Windows 11 on public servers (normally that's the only reason you need to run BE). That's why Dwarden has released two hotfixes. Unfortunately the latest patch does not fix all the issues and people still experience crashes

Currently the only solution if the hotfix still leaves people with crashes is to revert to the pre-2H24 version of Windows 11 or to Windows 10

The ARMA2OA_BE executable goes in the Operation Arrowhead root folder and the stuff in the archive in the BattlEye folder replaces stuff A2OA's BattlEye folder

Yes, I was able to recover my account after a long discussion. They were trying to make me look guilty of posting harmful content. The content was "a text file" the ACE configuration file ace_clientside_config.hpp The file that goes in the userconfig folder. The entire thread was based on precisely that.

So I asked them to explain to me how a text file was harmful, and if I was talking to a useless bot or a person. In the end, they gave me my account back. But in the final message, they kept repeating that I had shared harmful content. I couldn't get them to retract their accusations against me.

You should ask that question on the Microsoft forum, the one that has the problem is the latest Windows update, ArmA and Battleye work fine.

Compatibility is backward, not forward. When the operating system releases a new update, it should be compatible with everything that came before it. A game that's 15 years old shouldn't have forward compatibility... Unless, of course, they can see the future... don't you think so?

I’m trying to remember a specific mission I played in Arma 2 a while back, and I’m hoping someone might recognize it. Here’s what I recall:

The mission had me using a suppressed MP5SD.
It focused heavily on stealth, with a lot of crawling through bushes and sneaking past enemy tanks and Soviet-looking farms/villages.
At one point, I found a truck that I thought I could drive, but when I tried to get in, I was ambushed by an enemy soldier who already owned the truck.
It’s been hard to find the mission since Armaholic shut down, and I think it was part of a mission pack or mod I downloaded. Does anyone recognize this or know where I can find it?

If you are getting messages about permissions, it's because you don't have administrator permissions, so... run Steam as administrator.

It just kills the game process.

That file seems to only report the version of Nahimic, your motherboard's sound software. You can just rename the extension so Battleye doesn't detect it.

Afterwards, when you're not playing, you can rename the file again.

Suggestions That Might Help For Game Crashing
These are hit-or-miss, but worth trying:

Use "-winxp" launch parameter
Match your framerate Go to: Documents\Arma 2, Open ArmA2OA.cfg with Notepad, Find the line: refresh=60; Change the number to match your monitor’s refresh rate (e.g. refresh=144;) Save the file and launch the game
Run Steam and Arma 2 as Administrator
Disable fullscreen optimizations
Use Windows Compatibility Mode (set to Windows 7 or 8)
Ensure your .NET Framework and Visual C++ Redistributables are up to date
Disable overlays (Steam, Discord, NVIDIA GeForce Experience)

A little unfair on BI, it is both bootable and playable without BattlEye... and we have had two patches so far to try and fix the issue with Windows 11 and BattlEye

In addition, ARMA 2 is not the only game affected by the newer version of Windows 11...

Don't be ignorant... it's a 15-year-old game that reached the end of its life like many other games, EOL (no longer supported).
Windows just released its update, and many things stopped working. Compatibility is backward, not forward. That means Windows has to be compatible with what already exists, not the other way around.

There's a manual included, "faw manual.pdf". Note that artillery has minimum range that for GRAD is in excess of 3km. For modded units you probably need to include it in the RydFAW_Rocket and add magazines arrays in faw_fnc.sqf. Oh yeah and since the script uses "BIS_ARTY_Logic" function that will likely make modded units not work since they're not defined in that. For example Stryker Mortar Carrier doesn't work with bis arty function because it's not configured there.

Check pinned messages, the bug is caused by Windows 11 24H2 update that broke a lot of older games. So far it seems that only Microsoft can fully fix the problem, even with the BE patches the game will launch, but will still crash eventually

But nothing else than these has been confirmed to work. Which is understandable, as you just drag and drop the files on to the game don't expect it to work flawlesly without reinstallation of other components that are dependent on it.

Regarding the game keys, I remember that some activated certain languages. For example, if you bought a key in Russia or Germany from South America because it was cheaper, you couldn't even activate English.

What I can tell you is that in my case, the Steam version only lets me select between English and Čeština "Czech".

WINDOWS 11 POST INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
(to resolve Battleye & crash issues)

1. Download the archive from: #end_of_life_arma message. Also install 7zip if you don't have already.
2. Close the game
3. Go toC:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead\BattlEye (with default steam installation location)
4. Run Uninstall_BattlEye.bat
5. After done, go two folders back to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\
6. Open the archive with 7zip. Drop the ARMA 2 Operation Arrowhead to the common folder and replace all of the files. This means that the BattlEye and Arma2_OA_BE.exe should be placed inside the game folder, rather than common folder.
7. Go to the Battleye folder again, install it.
8. Run the game.

Apparently, PlanetSide2 devs recommended that you whitelist the BattlEye files from your antivirus software. In Arma 2 OA's case, they would be:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\BattlEye\BEService.exe
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\BattlEye\BEService_arma2oa.exe
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead\BattlEye\BEService.exe
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead\BattlEye\BEService_x64.exe

Additionally, I'd whitelist these game executables too:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead\ArmA2OA.exe
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead\ArmA2OA_BE.exe

If someone is experiencing these crashes, and this works, let us know. I might install W11 on my separate machine/VM to try to reproduce the bug and see what really fixes it.

Fix new error?
There is no new error. The only error is your version of Windows 11. If you're using Windows 10 or a version of Windows 11 prior to the 24H2 update, you won't have any problems.

Neither ArmA2 nor Battleye have any issues; they continue to work as usual. The problem is the Windows 11 update.
Compatibility is backward, not forward. Windows should be compatible with what was already available, in this case, many years before, not the other way around.

They shouldn't integrate it for the simple fact that nothing is broken, and it works without problems. If they integrate it, it might not work with older OS, W7, W10, etc., because that patch was made with W11 in mind and perhaps compatibility with older ones wasn't considered.

No idea but it's a dodgy link, why not just point at the pinned message from Dwarden, and also misses the key part that BattlEye must be uninstalled before patching. Very dubious and very not helpful. The correct procedure can be found at #end_of_life_arma message

Would not advise anyone to download and run any dodgy Google Drive download when we have a discord attachment from Dwarden to use!

Well, there already was a step by step and you missed out the most important bit (uninstalling BE before patching) and posted a dodgy link instead of the Dwarden provided zip which can be guaranteed not to be malicious...

Didn’t check the hash, it was most likely the same archive just reposted there. But follow the instructions above guys, seems to be working the best to get over this issue. Haven’t heard anyone complain about crashing when doing it that way.

i tried the launchparameter with this and i could play 4 hours: -malloc=system

on win 11 24h2

it crashed after 20-30 min

I am just saying i played 4 hours through without any crashes. with crashes i mean after some time the game just crashed/closed.

so yes it also fixed the full game crashes

I'm having an issue playing DayZ Epoch just kicks me off the game, I had to download the Fix for Win11 24hz to be able to launch the game but it keeps kicking me out before I enter the server any thoughts?

It's a rare bug that appears on some of the installations

although, deleting the Arma 2 Operation files only is fine if you don't start Arma 2 anymore

since that's only needed to be done once after the instalations

Did this. Multiple times just now, also ran the whole collection verified arma 2 and arma2oe and ran them all before joining still not working. Before i was getting a "You were kicked off the game" error but now when i'm waiting for host bottom left it shows "You cannot play/edit this mission;

I was doing a lot of trial and error with my A2oe to try to get it to work before I found that battleeye fix, so it had to be something I did to my game

Could have been, but usually that error is just that it appears either way it's a very old one, present at least after the last patch to the game

I am trying to set up a server on arma 2 AO using TADST. I have opened the ports, configured my firewall etc. When I launch it asks me for an executable file and I chose the game itself for lack of understanding what the executable file should be. So then when I launch the game through steam I can see the server over LAN and when I join the server it just says that I am waiting for host (which I assume is me). Is anyone able to help me understand what I am doing wrong here?

It could also be that your ISP has everything closed/blocked and you can't host anything unless you buy a public IP from them.

Usually if you get kicked you need to clear the corepatch files in your A2OA folder, verify files and then try again. With mods, I'd disable them and try to join some vanilla server first, like mine, I can check logs later if you don't see it.

Hello, sorry to bother you all, has anyone had the issue where after playing for about 10 minutes the game freezes (cannot be minimized or closed). I have Windows 11 and have installed the BattleEye patch mentioned above.

It fixes surprisingly many issues based on experience

Very odd. This should always fix the freeze. Maybe install your gpu drivers again. What GPU have you and what driver version?

I managed to fix it (or at least it did not crash this time) by adding the following:
-noSplash -malloc=system -world=empty

I've also read it that the commands do not work as I found them in steam forums but decided to give it a try anyway....seems like sometimes things work and sometimes they do not 😄

Also setting video memory to "very high" helped with certain FPS problems that I had in the past. Which was really odd.

Perhaps there's a really rare bug only on some configurations that if u dont do the world empty parameter that it leaves the assets in the memory thus causing the freeze or some shit
