I got 4000 pro credits to try it out. I was hooked.

However I have kept track, it has burned through more than 7000 credits in errors and had to redo things. And their policy is they don’t return wasted credits.

Now might be a good time to note that manus does refund credits "if the issue is confirmed to be caused by a verifiable bug or platform malfunction" (for example, tool invocation failures) - sometimes this is even caught on the fly and you don't have to contact anyone. This doesn't cover cases of a poor result, however... i.e. a bad prompt or a generation that wasn't what you intended. Manus, like Computer, uses a cloud-hosted VM to run.

After searching for competitors/alternatives in the field, Manus emerged as one of the primary competitors (and it was acquired by Meta). Others include GenSpark (if you need to make phone calls with the orchestration, which manus can't), Flowith (a relative newcomer, seemed buggy from what I could tell), and Kortix (formerly Suna). Of course, OpenClaw/Molt for local work. There's Claude CoWork, but that seemed to be less for research and more 'design'/simple task oriented.

Quite a few reasons - it’s far from perfect and I do miss some of the perplexity features such as in app notifications once a task has run, but Claude seems to work for me and my needs (I’m not a coder).

Sounds a bit trivial but the biggest push away from perplexity to clause was shortcuts and the amount of tokens perplexity was consuming.

I’m on the Claude Mac x5 plan and haven’t been close to hitting session or weekly limits yet - it’s half the price.

I’m doing some light weight web design/dev - it’s handled this perfectly well.

Also using the word and excel plugins which are really quite impressive - saved me a heap of time.

It works well with obsidian too - and doesn’t need to use API’s

I cannot believe how much more inefficient it was (or maybe just how uncompetitively priced the credits are, not sure which.) So many tasks it would get hung up on the stupidest things, spinning its wheels trying to load this tool or write that file, all the while running the meter.

It was so bad that I actually backed my MAX plan down to Pro. I never hit my session limits in Claude, but I was just blowing through extra credit purchases in PPX. This is like an arcade quarter eater.

Hello! I've been havin some limitations when using perplexity [education pro] so i wanted to try computer. The prices for the credits are very expensive for my country, and I wanted to try and charge the minimum [5 dollars]. But my fear is that those $5 credits would run out in just a few tasks. I've been having horrific issues with perplexity max and computer .. and i keep getting emails saying that within 2 buisness days ill hear back on a resolution .... well after about a week and a half they found a task consumed over $1,200 in credits and it was credited back ... then not only did those credits dissapear but my max plan was then only pro , same for everyone else in my organization. Then persistent amounts of more problems occured that are all documented with Sam in the chat app ... for weeks now and im getting pinged to pay my invoice which i really dont think i should be paying as none of the credits that were credited back are there and not only myself but my team have not been able to use perplexity for weeks now... The orchestrator is Opus 4.7 Thinking but the agents are Sonnet.

For opus versus sonnet opus only hallucinates about 3% less based on benchmarks. The only thing is opus is 12-15% smarter respectively.

That being said sonnet is still a very good model. I don’t think you missed out on too much.

Hi all, I'm running into an issue with a Perplexity "computer" task that monitors Perplexity Finance → Politicians for daily trades by members of the House Appropriations MilCon-VA subcommittee. The goal is to diff against a snapshot and alert me on new trades (ticker, direction, date, amount range).

What I'm seeing:

• First run saved a corrupted snapshot (most key fields null).
• I added guardrails and scheduled it as a background cron, but background runs can't access finance_politician_list / finance_politician_trades, so the task fails.
• I've now switched it to foreground mode and fixed the parsing logic, but I'd still like to know the "right" pattern.

Questions:

1. Is there a supported way to run daily "cron-like" tasks that still have access to finance_* connectors, or is foreground-only the intended approach?
2. Any best practices for snapshot schema / diff keys for finance_politician_trades so schema changes don't silently corrupt snapshots?
3. Are background tasks generally not supposed to call connector tools?

Here's the current task in short:

• Name: Daily MilCon-VA subcommittee trade check
• Schedule: daily at 9:00 AM CT, foreground mode
• Logic: resolve subcommittee members to politician_id via finance_politician_list (fallback: name-based lookup); call finance_politician_trades and normalize fields (politician_id, politician_name, ticker, transaction_type, transaction_date, filing_date, amount_range); diff vs last_trades.json using key (politician_id, ticker, transaction_date, transaction_type, amount_range); alert on new trades, then write the new snapshot.

1. Resolve roster -> politician_id map (name, chamber, party).
2. Call finance_politician_trades for each resolved id; name-based fallback for unresolved.
3. Inspect first row to detect field names; normalize each trade to {politician_id, politician_name, ticker, transaction_type, transaction_date, filing_date, amount_range}. Attach identity at write time. Skip rows that can't be parsed instead of writing nulls.
4. Load last_trades.json; if missing/malformed or any politician_id is null, baseline reset (no alert, rewrite snapshot, exit).
5. Diff key: (politician_id, ticker, transaction_date, transaction_type, amount_range).
6. Alert on new trades, grouped by politician (ticker, direction, date, amount range).
7. Overwrite snapshot with new normalized list.

Guardrails: fail fast if finance_* tools are unavailable; skip unparseable rows; auto-quarantine bad snapshots and treat the next run as a fresh baseline.

I'm running the same marketing research on cowork and computer, might rerun on codex later as well. It ate 1300 credits in the computer, so if I switch to max plan I would be able to do 7-8 large scale jobs on the plan and then pay 13 USD per research. :/ the results are pretty good, so the value is there. Hey, the Airtable connector for Computer has been broken for 8+ days. Same OAuth failure every attempt.

Error from the callback URL (captured today):

"This OAuth application cannot be used outside of development. Please check your OAuth application's setting page at https://www.airtable.com/create/oauth for next steps."

The Perplexity Airtable OAuth app is registered in development mode in Airtable's developer hub, so it only works for whoever inside Perplexity registered it. Everyone else gets access_denied before the consent screen.

Fix: publish the OAuth app via https://www.airtable.com/create/oauth so it's available to all users. Should be a 30-second toggle.

Once you do get credits, don’t click any of their suggestion workflows - they’re “Hero” pipelines that will literally burn 5k credits without pre-warning until the render completes. Straight up blind operation and lack of affordance which are basic Ux and usability heuristics. I’d say based on uber blowing their 2026 ai budget in 4 months and Microsoft canceling Claude to moving to copilot, this is gonna be a race to thwart compute costs, or at least more transparency
