I'm confused about image creation in Perplexity. When you select a preferred model for image generation, does it immediately use that model?

If I'm using Grok, Gemini, or GPT for reasoning answers and then request an image within the conversation session, does it generate the image using the current selected preferred image model, or does it switch to the specific LLM for images? These three LLMs that I have named above, for example can generate images independently.

Finally, how does the image generation model work? For example, does it directly create an image directly as I have prompted like a "nano banana," or does it pass through an LLM layer first?

There was a 50% discount subscription event for existing Perplexity users, and I subscribed to the Pro annual plan through that event, paying $110 on October 17.

Perplexity has memory and personalization as well! It'll save memories automatically based on your queries. You can also request it to "save XX into your memory" etc. (although it might not always work, depending on your wording).

For stuff you want it to take into account always, the "Introduce yourself" at https://www.perplexity.ai/account/personalize is way more reliable. Works for any instructions you want the AI to follow as well. Memory settings are located in there too

I had exactly the same question as you, and recently had both PPLX + ChatGPT Plus (+ Claude Pro)

my conclusion was that overall PPLX was the best, but ChatGPT Plus had some advantages/disadvantages. Claude Pro for me was useless if I'm being honest - no better than PPLX (or ChatGPT) + hit limits much faster + overall less accurate answers etc

see it depends on use case though....if u asked another person, they might respond quite differently. Hence, the best way is to test it for a month or so for your use case(s), and see which is good etc
there is no general answer now imo - use of AI has far too many use cases and variables for any one person to give an opinion and say definitively that one platform is clearly better etc

I am in the process of getting a new computer (Framework Desktop) and am planning to run Linux (likely Fedora 43, but that isn't fully decided yet).
