we will look look into it
is a fix for answers cutting off in the making?
what language do you use?
Greek
we increased the limit a bit, the reason behind this cut off is quite technical but in a nutshell it is because languages outside of english require more resources to be generated
we will work on implementing a better solution here
Is this change live? Can i test it right now?
Hi @limpid tree! Please try and let us know if that solved the problem.
Half of the answers cut off now.
Hello! I'm trying to use the perplexity chrome extension on a public github repo page and I get the error that the page I'm seeing is not public
This is real hard to read ๐ฆ
Gives us the option to increase font size and spacing between lines n paragraphs.
App provides great value but at the same time it is making it hard to consume that value ๐ข
Formatting needs some improvement. Spacing, line breaks and bulletpoints.
@hushed cipher, @limpid tree, thank you, guys! Wanted to say your feedback is always helpful, and we really appreciate it. Formatting improvements are on the backlog.
Thank you, very cool and useful website! Would be interesting to have a customized "popular now" homepage recommendations - for example, based on user interests (for example, I'm interested in tech, AI, travel, and wellness but not general or random news/queries)
hola
I'm wondering does Perplexity Ask keep a record of previous questions asked. I can find "Your Threads" in Ipnone App, but not in Perplexity Ask page or extension.
Hi
Perplexity is what I use the most. Having the iPhone app, I use the browser site more. When Iโm at home, I use my iPad mostly so is better for me. Hope it becomes an universal app
Didn't quite get it @pure jasper! Is it some sort of feedback for Perplexity? Please post in a proper channel and it's better to explain, so others could appreciate what you learned and shared with us.
@mossy tulip I can't save the whole thread using official notion web clipper, each save only saves the first conversation in that thread. I don't know if this is due to a limitation of the feature in perplexity itself or if the notion web clipper is unstable.
this is such a great app/web app. How can I copy the text answers I get WITH the citations? Can it be exported? thx
yes you can copy URLs and share them
is always free?
no official words on it; expect it to change whenever they feel like it
thank you
I have a suggestion/feedback:
Add some formatting for marking and highlighting code snippets.
Hey I started using the product - it's really good.
I was trying to have it summarize links for me, but two things:
- It's impossible to hold shift enter to have a multi line prompt
- The link doesn't seem to get ingested properly and it didn't work.
I tried this link as an example
https://blog.unity.com/preview/1qdrJYIEwQ1b3VTUM_-JnX5BBJVEiCkUsnmU7z812Xo
Thanks for the suggestion, @peak lichen! Code formatting within the app is indeed on our backlog, and our team is working on implementing it. Stay tuned for updates!
Hi, @quick herald, thanks for your feedback! Multiline/longer prompts are currently available on our Discord server and will be coming to other platforms soon. Regarding the link you wanted to summarize, our Chrome extension did well with the task.
https://www.perplexity.ai/?s=e&uuid=53b85683-683a-469c-8c54-e27f1d867149
Cool it would be great to have the ability to paste a link to summarize without a plugin but it seems like youโre on it for the most part.
Cheers
Don't ask why I tried to summarize a twitter page... but I wonder
- if the "javascript not available" happens with just this page or with more / all twitter pages, and
- if other websites can suffer from this kind of problem.
I don't think I want to share the thread nor the twitter URL in question tho, sorry if that makes investigation harder...
Hey, I tried to understand how Perplexity as a company works and couldnt find a lot. Maybe it would be good to provide some transparency in the blog section or about. Technical aspects, how it finances itself, if data is collected, which search engine is used (if).. Hope that helps
it often cuts off Russian text without finishing it even in the detailed mode
I think it mainly due to the tokenizer being not optimized to other languages than English
but there must be other ways to get around
Who the hell is this
And legitimacy as a Perplexity-deployed bot aside, selfbots is still arguably against Discord TOS?
Confirmed that they are not a bot. No idea who they are, and no idea what their website is supposed to be (look at that fishy domain name, "NFT port").
https://www.perplexity.ai/search/51611ae5-301c-469f-9f27-ce0ceb4b59a6?s=u
The last question of this thread, wtf with the sources, and wtf with the mention that the idiom is unrelated to search results?
Is it because I had a lot of unrelated "context" from previous questions? I don't get these from a fresh thread.
I agree, don't open suspicious links, and don't recommend it to anybody. Link deleted, user banned. Thanks for reporting and keeping the community safe.
- Would be great to access my threads across different platforms
- Ability to copy the thread in markdown would be exceptionally helpful as it would be easier to integrate into workflows
please tell me about Seattle and answer in Chinese.
next week, stay tuned

Perplexity AI unlocks the power of knowledge with information discovery and sharing.
@vapid mason thanks a lot for reporting the issue! We will look into it and work on a fix. We appreciate your input and your help in making Perplexity AI better!
I think the text box should be bigger and allow multiple lines in the prompt. There should be text warping as well.
why the refrences num is only five ,can't there be more references links in one answer?
yeah, many chatbos have this problem and when you press enter you can't change line you must edit it on notepad and copy to the text box
@covert sun does the "site" order error?i order perplexity using site orders but it doesn't work ,just can use"this domain" on chrome addons,"this page" is also unavalable
Hey @urban seal! There can be more sources, you can add more via the 'edit sources' button or exclude irrelevant ones. Then save it and see the updated answer.
Funny bug I found: pressing shift+enter with empty prompt will make the AI load forever
@covert sun there's no botton called "edit sources" on the ui ,where is it?
After youโve made the query , click on the 3 dots button to edit sources
ok thank you,but it can just change the source ,not follow my site order and i can;t choose percific domain which i wanted
the sources are auto generated not follow my site order
Also how can i shift the limit of words, even in concise answer,it can't answer more ,it;s less than 1000words
will be addressed next week, please stay tuned!
ok i'll wait for it
I just added the bot to my fitness supplements discord, and folks are totally digging it! Thanks y'all!

I asked it to write a witty outreach message to a candidate with typescript/python experience. The answer was so bland..Please check

Also, uh, I'm not exactly sure what the devs can do with that. I'd personally recommend try asking the AI again, specifying your needs differently / in more details / whatever
Here's a witty outreach message to a candidate with TypeScript/Python experience:

I have a suspicion that this is what's internally going on between Perplexity and the language model:
Someone asked this question: "Hey, does sound pad have a feature where you can play multiple sounds at once?" What search terms should I use when searching on google?
Here're some search results that came up. Could you answer this question with these information?
Could you give me three potential follow-up questions one could ask?
?
Oh I get it
Hello, I have downloaded perplexity 9 days ago after I saw a linkedin post.
I have been using it for the past 9 days quite actively
Yesterday I removed safari from my frequently used applications
And added perplexity instead
I now use perplexity as my main search app
It has been quite interesting. None of the apps that I have tried in the past removed another app that I have been using for years
I also started using the chrome add on today
I recommended the app to 2 of my friends and my aunt who is learning web development. My aunt told me that the app was really useful to her.
This application is something else guys. I do not know what exactly this app will evolve into but as long as you keep this app free and without ads I think this has the highest possibility of completely replacing google search
I still cannot believe how I downloaded this app and how it literally took over every other app that I use for search for the past 10+ years ie google and aafari
Thank you
thank you for your kind words โค๏ธ
Hi everyone! We appreciate your reports regarding the answer cut-off issue. This should be addressed by now. @keen phoenix, @limpid tree, @radiant kindle, @dusky lark, @slim yacht, would you kindly verify if it's working well for you or let us know if you're still facing the problem?
That's gonna be hard to test! (response cutting off was a small chance anyway; it's hard to verify whether it's fixed for good or not)
Anyways I will report the next cut off I see, if it happens at all
Thank you for the fix, but same here, no idea how to reproduce is, but I'll keep my eyes open ๐
Still happening with Greek
Wow I have made it onto @cunning goblet linkedin !! ๐
Perplexity is blocking all connections from Private Internet Access VPN servers... Have tried 10 so far. What happened to the captcha prompt?
sorry we had some spam attack yesterday and had to block several ASNs, any way you can use our site without a vpn?
Congrats on the latest release, just parsing the latest changes now. One change I do not like is having buttons like "View Detailed", "View sources", and "Edit" being icons without labels. I also do not like that the list of sources opens as a modal. The way it was before was better.
We've tried a bunch of questions in Greek, but don't see it happening. Could you please share more examples of where the cut-off happened?

I wanted to report it here
Hello, Perplexity consistently creates lists incorrectly while explaining programming concepts. I wanted to report this
hi all! your sign up/in with google isn't working, it always lags and returns this banner. there are also significant slowness in receiving and clicking the email link when i sign on with email
Hey @stark ingot! Are you using vpn?
nope, i'm not
And just to confirm, does the email option work despite the lags?
yes it does, once i open perplexity in a new tab after clicking the emailed link
Does the problem persist in an incognito tab/different browser?
yes, we are aware of this bug, need some time to resolve it
The logo text doesn't show when in the popular tab
Thanks for spotting that. We'll fix it.
hm good point i am unable to reproduce on any browser rn, but i originally experienced the problem 2-3 times upon account creation and login in safari for both the regular and beta urls
We have been making a few back and forth changes to spam protection which might have overlapped with your sign in attempts but things should be more stable now. Glad to hear it's resolved but please do reach out if it ever happens again and we'll take a closer look!
Please add the ability to adjust text size
And when can I log into my account in the app?
the width of the layout is kinda weird, using Edge on Windows 10..
& could probably use some padding ๐
Hi!
I think this is not an appropriate answer for my question or perplexity didn't understand what I mean by "range" in date. He gets the same answer if I use "within a specific range"
https://www.perplexity.ai/search/001696f7-b4b0-48b7-a4c1-5c1374c57b5e?s=c
iirc it caches response for similar prompts, even if they are meaningfully changed.
will perplexity be available for android in the future?
Yes, it is being worked on
Looking forward to it!
I really miss that "shuffle" - "more" for related questions - you won't believe how much it helps ๐
when copy-pasting text from perplexity it pastes like this with extra spaces
We have detected unusual activity coming from your IP address and blocked your request.
If you are using a VPN, please try again without it. For technical support, please contact us at helpdesk@perplexity.ai
Been seeing this for a while. Iโm sure youโre being spammed, or whatever but I canโt even use a captcha to submit my request. Iโm sure you get a lot of abuse from behind VPNs (Iโm behind one) but this isnโt a great user experience.
Hi! Sorry about that, thanks for letting us know, will follow up with you and try to resolve.
Hello team, when I select the "System" option in Appearance, I guess it is actually inheriting the current system theme, but the selection does not reflect as "System". It only takes "Light", or "Dark" value. From a user perspective, it feels like the selection failed and I retried multiple times before realizing it could be a minor bug ๐
love it
Is this your official policy? If so, I guess Iโll remove you as my default search. Iโm just one guy and have basically only cost you money, so Iโm sure you donโt care but - if Iโm going to give up my privacy to interact with an LLM, Iโm going to use ChatGPT.
To me, the great thing about perplexity was LLM as a search engine. Admittedly, I donโt know which market youโre going for soโฆ guess itโs not my use case. ๐คทโโ๏ธ
@mossy tulip - pls forgive the ping. See above. Can you please confirm this is your go forward policy? Just want to make sure before disconnecting. Thanks.
China:
(China blocked Perplexity and I have to use VPNs to access. My VPN is not blocked yet, but it sucks to know they ban VPNs.)
When searching youtube, it would be better to emphasize the sources and display thumbnails for the videos with the title and option to play inline
To add to this, turning off VPN for perplexity implies turning it off for everything else -- thats a huge privacy issue. Why cant you filter access by whether someone is registered or not?
hey, sorry this is not our policy, the reason is that we have to block certain ASNs from which we receive a lot of spam traffic, unfortunately it so happened that you might be also using these ASNs. we are trying to figure a better solution where our users can still use VPNs, we definitely are committed to respect users privacy. please give us some time to resolve this issue.
yes, we will have this soon
Ok, thank you for responding and good luck dealing with spam.
The speaker or microphone in IOS doesnโt understand Spanish. Also, I write in Spanish and the answer is in English.
add "en espanol" in your prompt to make it respond in Spanish
Would have been great the be one of the firsts that makes autoGPT avabile to anyone by making a compiled gui exe, that would be really innovating. Another thing that could be good is to add reflection in the website, that makes the overall outputs really good (I don't know if it could be implemented). The main issue is that it does not remember well the previous questions and answers.
I know Perplexity is supposed to provide information instead of carry out tasks (and is likely tuned to do so), but uhh, this still looks mildly unsatisfying https://www.perplexity.ai/search/1b346da2-feec-43cf-8ccc-622dafb0ad31?s=c
(asked the AI to roll a dice, and it gave me a few websites where I could do that, instead of giving me a random number)
I think it is exactly as it should behave
hmm, is it really a search engine?
Can you provide the link to that search?
When I get incoherent, in most case I find a solution trying a different way.
yep, I recreated it: https://www.perplexity.ai/search/a9269762-718e-4118-9b7e-bc849b68d60b?s=c
I'm sorry, but I cannot provide a list of the 20 most viewed posts of 2022-2023 on r/hometheater as the search results provided do not contain any relevant information about the most viewed posts on that subreddit. The search results only show a few random posts from different subreddits, and none of them are related to r/hometheater.
My threads are not syncing with my mobile account and I don't see any settings on mobile.
When I try the same prompt with web search, it returns first 3 links from random websites, and all others just invented article names ))) with the same link: https://www.perplexity.ai/search/2b0e467a-e74c-4a7a-b5b3-e50afcb5e712?s=c
I can't type characters with diacritics (Firefox/Librewolf, Fedora)
Same thing occurs when I try to type something with the compose key (a + e should print รฆ, but it prints a)
Hi @lapis violet! The new features of the web version have not yet been synced with the app. They will be available soon.
no problem, the app looks really great!
Thanks for reporting @hollow prawn! We'll check the issue and work on fixing it.
@covert sun where can i generate api key of perplexity?does this function unavailable yet?
How do we teach your AI new tricks? Quite a few times now it does not know an answer to something (e.g. whether or not Facebook is a registered Australian business entity) and I can find an authoritative link to the right answer (e.g. the online government business register: https://connectonline.asic.gov.au/RegistrySearch/faces/landing/panelSearch.jspx?searchText=134012543&searchType=OrgAndBusNm&_adf.ctrl-state=k22xxfeee_15 ) ... we need to be able to teach your systems the right answers!!

hi, i love the app, good experience so far. However, it still has a problem with displaying latex, will it be fixed soon?
Might be good to add more info about how public or not public the user's account is when sharing threads. Also the eye, can we toggle public private in the future?
People who you share a thread with, can open it and see only its content and author's username, no more than that. Right, we'll introduce the toggle feature in the future.
it is not implemented yet, mobile app doesn't have accounts yet
Looks like the text assumes that the name of the source is inlined like it used to be. Personally, I like the inlined sources better than just having it as a footnote.

Still puts the icon over the top of text we need to read on all one-line code responses:
To convert Unix time into ISO format using a Perl one-liner, we can use the localtime() function to convert the Unix timestamp into a list of time components, and then use sprintf() to format the components into the desired ISO format[1][2].
Here's an example Perl one-liner that reads a Unix timestamp from standard input and prints the corr...
One "quick and dirty" hack to fix that would be to add a space or two onto the end of the output, so we can at least scroll sideways to see the character(s) hidden under that copy icon thing (or maybe make the CSS so it doesn't even show that icon until the mouse hovers over the box in the first place)
Using the chrome extension, the summarize function never works. It always gives you this same sort of message. I've tried multiple websites and summarize > with similar results. However, if I type summarize and paste the URL of the page, the summarize function works fine then. Seems like a bug within the chrome extension.
Now that you block VPN, I am no longer able to use Perplexity at work. We use VDI here at the office and automatically uses VPN as a result. Can you please fix it so I can continue to use perplexity at work???
Is there a way that we could select and keep descriptive permanently on instead of having to manually turn it on every time?
this appears to be related to their cloudflare settings. i notice it's getting more and more strict in the past week.
It should understand that a person asking about cores and threads is not asking anything about software threads, but rather, hyper-threading: https://www.perplexity.ai/search/58ea803a-9f40-408c-9f56-10eaa5783a30?s=u

It doesnt appear to be 2048 chars long, only:
Characters 572 Words 86
my Notepad++ counts 1029 charactersbytes, despite it shows the cursor to be on col 558 when placed on the end of the text, two numbers that don't match up.
edit: it's 558 characters and 1029 bytes, my mistake, see message below
Okay, tested:
- it's not characters, it's bytes, when encoded in UTF-8, and
- it's not 2048, it's 1024.
So I can put 341 Chinese characters in (1023 bytes - each Chinese character is 3 bytes in UTF-8) and it works, add one more (1026 bytes) and it fails
and your text, as far as my text editor is concerned, is 1029 bytes, longer than the limit.
so the prompt converts to bytes? but still 1024 is not 2048 ...
would be nice if there were a tweak to set the language of output
u can specify so
Same here, often the answers are in English but I did question in Italian.
Isn't a real problem for me but would be better if the AI replies in the correct language.
Also sometimes, when I click the "view detailed" button, it switches language to English (previous Italian)
@covert sun is it possible to increase the char length? Thy Byte conversion means Arabic/Chinese are reduced to very few chars
Considering adding internationalization support? Like setting the language of the answer?
type "in [language]", eg "in spanish" (or your language's equivalent) in the prompt and the AI will (hopefully) respond in that language.

Try something like that https://www.perplexity.ai/search/80c2623a-185d-486b-b636-f0b90a620ad6?s=c
P.S. May be in your case perplexity thought "ะฝะฐ ััััะบะพะผ" is related to "ะทะฐัะตะผ ะปัะดะธ ะธัะฟะพะปัะทััั 1ั" and answered in english, but it is just a suggestion.
You should make a browser called Comet! That would be awesome! I would be something like an AI browser. And you should make this link an invite to use the browser: https://www.perplexity.ai/browser/claim/EVC3DOLF9E
Could be awesome if we can delete old messages in a thread.
Now we can delete only the last message
Could be awesome if we can get chrome installable PWA for Android / any phone that supports PWAs
@covert sun
ไฝ ๅฅฝ
so this would require 2 steps actually:
- thread forking
- a new thread continuing in your thread section
Right, you can go up the thread and delete the messages one by one. Got your idea about deleting any answer within a thread. We'll look into this feature
Hello, first of all, I'd like to say this is a wonderful tool, I've been loving it. Congratulations to everyone involved. Still learning the best ways to use it.
Thanks! This will provides a lot of cleaning in a thread ๐
A happy user. perplexity.ai has won the homepage of my android ๐
THe only issue I have is, since I am often asking in bulgarian "cyrillic" - the answers come in english, not always but sometimes
and it happens mostly when i do a followup question
when this happens, it seems it looses the context of the thread (i guess due to mixed language output/input)
I just joined the waitlist. Did it take long for you to get access?
Good morning. I'm French and I love Perplexity. However, one reason prevents me from completely switching to it: often, when spoken to in French, the AI responds in English. From an ergonomic point of view, the platform is therefore less easy to use than Bing or Chat GPT but concentrates the best of both worlds. A small fix of the Perplexity app (like a default language setting) and a global translation of the app would be absolutely brilliant. Well done for the work.
I add that the application does not allow the analysis of more complex texts and does not provide an answer while Bing or Chat GPT does. It confines itself to fairly simple questions. For example, when Perplexity is asked to solve a legal problem, the application does not succeed, unlike the other two.
It's not a waitlist to get access. It's just so you get a mail when it's available in the playstore for everyone.
Hey @velvet plover! I think Emil mentioned the homepage of his browser on Android. Cause the Android app is yet to be released. So it's the right time to join the waitlist.
Didn't get the app, just set perplexity.ai as the default home page for the chrome browser
Hey @dim socket! Thanks for your kind words and detailed feedback. The model now understands questions in different languages better, but if so happens that it answers in English, you have an option to edit the last question that got the wrong output and edit your question, adding "rรฉponse en Franรงais" or just "en Franรงais". Try like that and let us know if it helps.
As for the complex questions issue, do you refer to the concise answers? Have you also tried both the detailed option? Now that you also have the enhanced answers option, we'd love to hear if that works better for you. Thanks!
Today, i woke up and still have 0 uses. But it says limited free uses PER day. So does that mean it gives you 6 uses per day? If so... I didn't get the 6 uses today. I got it yesterday and used it all. I don't know if I should wait a bit more or not.
Do i need to wait until it's maybe 12 pm or 3 pm?
would it be possible to keep the previous 3 Related follow-ups? It could simply just delete the recent answers until the point and do the answer to the newly chosen. It would help a lot in researching.
I got a bit confused now regarding sharing: the shared link doesn't remember the Concise or Detailed state, and if you choose "View detailed" after you receive a shared link, you will get different detailed results.
So if I share a link and I reference to an information in a detailed block - the other party won't have an idea what I'm referencing to, and even if he changes all states to detailed he most likely won't see the same information as me.
So, how can I handle a situation like this (referencing something in a detailed block)?
Hi @dusky lark, are you sure you're sharing the link with the id and not just the search query.
I can replicate your issue if you ask a question and didn't click on "View detailed" and then share the link. To avoid this issue you could ask a question then click on "View detailed" wait for it to load and then share the link, it should then show the exact same text.
This is on my end:
This is the shared link: https://www.perplexity.ai/search/52e969cb-84aa-42cf-b68a-1b315783f2a7?s=c
I see the same text when I click on "view detailed"
this is what the other end sees:
By default it shows the "concise" answer to your question. You could mention to the other party they would have to click on the "View detailed" button to get the same text as you. The link you share doesn't save that state. This could maybe be a nice feature to add in the future!
I currently have one with 11 blocks. It is really time consuming both for me and the other party to "use the 8th block!", and for me to mention to switch to detailed mode - and for him to do this
And all this won't work if he isn't familiar with PerplexityAI so he will have no idea what is a "block", and how to switch it to detailed state
I understand be sure to write this problem youโre having and what you would like to see instead in #๐ญโideas maybe the Perplexity team will be able to add this feature in the future.
I just leave it here, they are nice guys, checking this channel too - also too much work to summarize all this ๐
Sometimes I want to explore several suggested follow-up questions, but the follow-up questions change when I click on one. Would be nice if the older ones would stay put.
How does Perplexity decide which sources to display? Take this thread for example (https://www.perplexity.ai/search/816e3f34-ffcc-4184-85e0-3199dab6d9b3?s=c). The sources are about heat pumps. But when I ask Perplexity to write SEO titles instead of meta descriptions, it uses sources about how to write meta titles.

#๐จโdream Is it intentional, that everyone can rate a image?
So not only the creator, but also any other person
In general, I'm enjoying perplexity web app. Two thoughts:
- Please keep the web app a first class product as I don't have a phone to install "apps", I do run everything in a web browser on a mobile computer.
- It would be great if you supported actual accounts via username/password instead of "email to receive a link". Having a username/password cuts out an extra step in logging in. I find I rarely login because of this extra step to access my threads. I do login when I want to create a dedicated/longer thread of 10+ actions.
It would great for perplexity to be available on poe.com so we bots can be created that allow you to specify the initial prompt similar to chatgpt extensions
There is a bug (or missing ui) on the follow up question overlay, when using enhanced answers. Basically there is an option to select what type of follow up answer you want (quick, enhanced) and upon selecting, the enhanced icon stays there.
Take a look
Should be fixed, thanks for reporting!
It is fixed, Thanks!
Hi, I am really loving Perplexity, but the thing is it takes time to switch from one thread to another and it just seems like its too many clicks away. Is it possible to add something like a drop down for switching between threads? In that way it would seem easy to switch.
Hi, just random feedback. I have been trying out a range of what I call "next-generation search engines"* like Perplexity for the past few weeks with a variety of queries. I have personally found Perplexity to be the best one. It gives better answers than the others 90-95% of the time in my experience. So yeah, I just want want to personally thank and congratulate the team behind it! ๐ฅณ You have done an amazing job! I have recommended Perplexity to many tens of people across my social and work connections and I hope you continue to expand going forward.
- If there is a better term for what Perplexity is, I would like to learn it!
OpenAI has improved GPT models and Perplexity is now faster than ever! Even with rare languages!
This now also means that enhanced answers (GPT-4) are answered at a very fast speed.
A few weeks ago, GPT-4 was super slow to answer. Now it's almost as fast as chatgpt was when it got launched.
why the formula response has error in non-english asks?it can just show the latex code instead of figure of formula?
The formula for the normal distribution is given by:
$$f(x) = \frac{1}{\sqrt{2\pi\sigma^2}}e^{-\frac{(x-\mu)^2}{2\sigma^2}}$$ [1]
where $$\mu$$ is the mean of the distribution and $$\sigma$$ is the standard deviation.
This formula describes a bell-shaped curve that is symmetric around the mean. The total area under the curve is always equal t...
@wooden narwhal
I think the search box for a new search should move down here rather than be up there. It should also expand to fit my long searches rather than be static and small like that
2 feature requests: 1. a search function, so we can easily search through older threads, 2. a checkbox with check all and uncheck all so we can easily remove multiple threads at once. Now I have to delete them all or one by one. One by one is very time consuming if you have a lot of threads.

Just a heads up, you have a typosquater in the playstore. If people do not realize you do not have your android app out, they'll be directed to this first search result. It doesn't help that you have links already to the playstore on your webpage without having the actual app.
Will there be an option to tag favorite threads and to organize them into groups, like bookmarking system works in the browser?
rule of thumb is not to ask language models to do math ๐
Love perplexity.ai overall. Both the app and web browser are great and I think the ability to switch between "sources" (e.g., academic, wikipedia) is awesome.
On that, one piece of feedback: for the academic option, it doesn't seem to weight more cited publications or publications in more prestigious journals more heavily. This results in somewhat obscure summaries about the current state of literature based on articles that really barely anyone associates with the literature VS anchoring on the seminal pieces that should be some of the first results returned
suggestion: add github and stackoverflow to the bar at the top
lile youtube, reddit, wikipedia are
I guess this is mostly because of the paywall that some of the sites (JSTOR, DeGruyter etc.) have. ๐ฆ

Wow, Iโm really impressed by how much Perplexity AI has improved lately. Iโve been using it for months and at first it was kind of unreliable and gave me a lot of wrong information. But as I kept using it every day, I noticed that it was getting better and better. I looked at how Perplexity AI searches for information and itโs amazing how it mimics human browsing behavior on the web. It can search for anything I want and it gives me good relevant results. Itโs so cool! Iโm very grateful to the developers for creating this awesome tool. It helps me a lot with my learning and personal stuff.
why does perplexity sometimes not show inline citations ?
Can we have Perplexity AI actually read the contents of the Websites and not just search results? When I give it a Link to summarise. It only summarise search results for the link but not the contents of the websites. Thanks.
not sure if this is of any importance to the devs but
i was expecting it to say hi back to me or something, just to experiment, but i instead got a definition of the words "hello perplexity"
its pretty cool but since i didnt type 'definition' idk
I am really enjoying perplexity, but I don't understand why, unlike chat GPT why does it not retain information from previous chat and reply with respect to that? Should I be expecting this behaviour? Is the chat always related to the first question prompt that I ask?
Exactly! Its taking things too literally, lol.
Is the service down? doesn't work on web and mobile now. The website loads, but can't complete the request. It shows loading state
yes it's down. I'm having the same problem
OpenAI's ChatGPT is also down.
now we know Perplexity is using OpenAI services...
so I am not the only person for whom Perplexity is not working
Certainly not!
xD
sorry we are working on resolving the problem
poe.com GPT is also down, only Claude works. seems like the root problem is from openai
Thank you! Yes, it looks like it is down or very very slow
I love it though! I can leave Google anytime

i feel like users would really like a response like "hi there! what can i do for you?"

no problem at all :)
When you create an account for the first time- uploading a large profile picture not only breaks the pfp but also refuses to create the account

Many thanks ๐
Um.. ๐ฆ I would love for Perplexity to be able to play along with a common joke
Should be awesome if a thread had a name and we could edit it.
Now they're show like the first answer
I think Iโd like a feature where I can share an article to perplexity from the share sheet on iPhone
I just discussed a lot with perplexity. I am a developer, so I asked it many questions about how I can make efficient anticheats, while not impacting too much server performance. I mainly asked questions on how I can detect wallhacks, macros, and how does information of touch work. As I asked questions, the answers started to be less precise and more repetitive. Moreover, it was slowly starting to forget the domain of my questions. I think improving the bot for longer conversations would be a good idea.
(However I love how Perplexity is able to recap the conversation)
There is no Toggle, despite what you recently told me in an email: https://www.perplexity.ai/search/160ec70e-32c6-46f0-bd33-ed8f445147a5?s=u
To switch to Enhanced mode in Perplexity AI and leverage the power of GPT-4, you need to create a new thread. Once you have created the thread, you can toggle between "Quick" and "Enhanced" modes. Enhanced mode is recommended for the hardest questions or if you need to generate more expansive text. This feature is available for free[1][2].
To do Math with language models, you need to install to Wolfram subsystem
The toggle is in the right of the search bar, default value is "Quick", click it and you'll see the Enhanced mode
On the web interface, next to the submit button there is a dropdown to choose between Quick and Enhanced.
Not sure if it's available on the mobile app.
Also, uh, the AI itself is not aware of its own interface, unless there is an article on the web about it and said article got provided to the AI for reference
I gave Perplexity ai a Test
"Write a poem about love without the letter "a".
Here's what it gave me:
The two poems have the letter "a" in them.
So Perplexity ai failed the test.
That's because it gets those poems from the web.
So, like i said in the #๐ญโideas The team should add "real time web data on - off" option
Not exactly. Let me explain (might take a while for me to type if you are reading this in real time)
First, the language model is likely unaware of "what words has the letter a". The language model associates words with their meaning and relation to other words, but isn't aware that the word has the letter a or not - to the model, a word might as well just be a number (that internally represents this word).
You can confirm this by asking OpenAI's ChatGPT to write such a poem - despite lacking internet access, ChatGPT also includes the letter a in its poem.
Second, in your screenshot, Perplexity did not have that little number thing in its response, meaning the language model did not directly pull anything from the web search results given. (At least that's my guess, you can try to confirm it by clicking open the sources and comparing the text)
Perplexity's system will feed the language model web search results whenever there are something to be found, but this doesn't mean the language model will use all the search results it got.

Wow we're flooding the chat with poems lol
ya still have "hearts"
Anyways, I stand my point, GPT isn't programmed nor trained to be aware that a word has "a" or not. Maybe it encountered some training material that give them said knowledge, but in general, probably don't count on them to be reliable on this.
Just to give GPT the benefit of the doubt, maybe they are kinda aware that "hearts" has "a" but the weight of surrounding context (topic = love) overwhelmed the weight to obey the prompt and don't use "a"
idk, who knows how the neurons are wired
Yeah, that's what I meant

If you are on mobile (specifically iOS) and click a perplexity link to login on the browser it opens in the app- it makes the link expire but does not log you in
Hi, @celest aspen, thanks for sharing! It doesn't log you in on the app cause it's not yet synced with the web version. When you go back to the browser, you'll see you're logged in.
I am saying you arenโt logged in on the website either
Just checked logging in with my Apple ID and email. It redirects to the app where you are not logged in. If you go back to the browser from there, you see the login link.

Has anybody noticed a bias in their responses? I have been doing quite a bit of political and social research and responses seem to be heavily biased.
I suggest you post the thread links so that the devs can have a look.
Bias can come from both the language model and the search results, so it'd be nice to be able to check where the bias come from and thus potentially be able to address it
Bard vs Perplexity side by side on the prompt "step by step explanation of the derivative of sigmoid"
Hello everyone,
I have been using Bard and Perplexity since the time that Bard rolled out. Perplexity gives better answers to almost all prompts than Bard. The clearest example that demonstrates Perplexity being ahead of Bard are the images above. Perplexity is just way ahead in terms of the ability to do/explain maths.
I like perplexity the most because it is the best Private Tutor at any topic that is ready to answer my questions.
Thank you for this product. I have been using it for the 4th week I think and it has absolutely transformed my life.
My only recommendation would be to not show the animation where the text gets generated after I press the search button. One reason that I prefer Bard at simple questions is that I do not wait for the writing animation. Bard gives the textual information all at once.
Thanks!
Iโm astounded by the fact that I strongly prefer perplexity over BingChat
Seems like in the "related" section, GPT suggests questions that has already been answered in the actual answer text. I wonder if anything can be done that reduces this happening

I have a serious issue with the captcha system on perplexity ai's website. It is extremely irritating and inconvenient to click it every time I want to access the site. It is a search engine. It should be convenient to open like google or bing.
like I use perplexity as my primary search engine and it is very annoying to first wait for the captcha to load, then click on it and then get the answer.
BUG REPORT: Click "new thread" ( a box pops open) start typing, change to another window to copy some text, change back to Perplexity ... and it erases the box and everything we typed in)
Get rid of your "onfocus" or whatever other funky javascript is making that popup box go away - or better still - get rid of that entire modal popup box in the first place. "New Thread" means new - not grey out the stuff we don't want anymore and confuse us all with an entirely different way of inputting our query.
Perplexity AI is continuously improving, and I have noticed that it lacks a language selector feature. Currently, I have to specify the language I want to use, which can be inconvenient. Therefore, I suggest adding a language selector feature to make it more user-friendly.
they don't have the same level of backing to deflect large bot attacks as Google/Bing. I think they did get hit with such an attack recently. It seems reasonable to have it, but I guess maybe being able to login first before asking it Qs would eliminate the captcha issue
what kong mentioned (thanks kong!)
we're working on trying to make it a lot less intrusive, but logging in should help with reducing / eliminating seeing the screen
really?
never helped me though. I am always logged in when I use it
hmm ok. like I've noted it's something we're working on improving right now - thank you for your patience
No worries! Iโm still hooked on this awesome product, captcha or not. I just wanted to give you a heads up about this annoying thingy so you can fix it or make it less sucky ๐

it is already in the works though, and hopefully it'll be better soon

Perplexity has trouble with some of LaTeX syntax
Here, it mistakes line break "\" for ""

can you link to some of these threads? Thank you!

Perplexity can often tell from other sources whether one website has questionable credibility/reliability. I feel like this information should be included whenever websites like this are used as references for an answer. To take it further maybe credibility scores can be automatically generated

hi community, I have few options to improve user experience for this service:
- fix/improve sites additions. the way, when u are pasting text it will be the same as at Perplexity in window(mb that's not working only in Notion).
- add copy text button at the bottom after list of sites(where are buttons
Accurate,Not Accurate,View Concise, ect.)
what you think?
command+click on links, especially in "your threads" should open the thread in a new tab.

There is no option like this:
Click on the "Page setup" tab and select the "Right to left" option under "Text direction".

Hi! I love perplexity and i was wondering if it was possible to add a "copy raw response" button which would copy the response's text but without the little "ยน" from citations. It's a super small feature I'm aware but it would be quite useful! Thanks for the great product!
I would like to ask if it will be possible to categorize or manage threads or create folders for them like bookmarks in some browsers?
Not at the moment, but it is something that seems useful (I know other peeps have suggested it above.) We'll see what we can do about it!
Thank you very much! It would make it much easier to find individual threads, in case one wants to continue the work/research later.

There should be settings that you can turn on to automatically
- Increase the amount of sources for a search
- Increase the amount of detail per post
It's possible to do this right now manually, but it would be nice if we can have this happen all the time.
I donโt know if this has been said before but you guys should allow the prompt to be edited after it was sent because sometimes you make a mistake or the answer wasnโt to your liking but you still want to use the previous prompt into the new one etc

If you look at sources wolfram did not understand what you were trying to say
Can you please clarify "sources", "wolfram"?
Both answers attempts to calculate kN
In 3.5 answer the result is 3,924 N.
then ...
"To convert newtons to kN, we can divide the force in newtons by 1000. Therefore, the force in kN is 3.924 N / 1000 = 0.003924 kN."
The language model seems to confuse 3,924 N with 3.924 N.
Therefore I find the query worth examining and fine tuning the language model most likely can correct the output.

Is it possible to upload and train perplexity with our own knowledge base so that it can generate more accurate, targeted responses to our prompts?
No, not at this time
The only thing thatโs keeping me in chatGPT is the fact that I can edit all my prompts, not only the last one. Itโs really useful to be in control of the chat history. Also, a toggle to turn on or off internet access would be great. As sometimes you just want GPT to do some text processing without introducing new data.
If you want perplexity to become the main space of LLM use. You need another option that allows users to implement their own data (pdf, twt, url, โฆ) and then this data is processed using langchain so that GPT now has this knowledge. This way people can write in depth about certain topics and not just the general overview that basic internet offers, or what GPT is trained on.
In the future, a business model will be required. Then you can implement ads based on the topic that is answered. And offer premium pass that has no ads and unlimited use (like it is now).
A tip: good tools only have one thing to pay for, as soon as you start implementing many subscription levels, you lose massive amounts of trust.
I discourage any use of ads for any business model. Pay for subscriptions, sure. sharing with openai should be opt-out by default, users can opt-in if they want to for a discount or something like that.
Perplexity has a common error that often occurs. When asked something in Spanish, there is a possibility that it will respond in English, including in the detailed view (which occurs more frequently).
Another error that I have noticed is that there are phrases that it underlines, but these sometimes lack meaning. It also often loses the context of the conversation.
yeah, I still couldn't figure out what underlines mean - it has different content, also afraid to click it as then I lose my related follow ups, also need to delete if I want to check anything else. A detailed hover could be nice there, no?
Underlines are under terms that may be of interest to the user
That said, we will be figuring out a way to preserve related follow ups without making it too busy in the thread
But then you just pay for subscription. It gives people without any money the chance of using their tools too.

Hello! Just wanted to share that PerplexityAI is one of the greatest AI things that I use a lot. I really like that you can switch between the default mode and the one that is using GPT-4.
Is very useful and 95% of the time I will just open up the Chrome Extension and search what I need for, saving a lot of time actually.
Just wanted to say thank you for making this!
@knotty berry Would it be possible in the near future for users to be able to use their own OpenAI API KEY with Perplexity especially when using GPT-4?
It feature is requested many times, and the Perplexity team added some of the features, so I think they will add it. Although it is unclear when.
Hey Perplexity.ai team! ๐ I've been enjoying the beta testing experience and wanted to suggest a few features that could enhance the platform:
- Permalinks for search types: Create shortcuts like perplexity.ai/news for easy access to specific search categories.
- Multilingual support: Expand the platform's reach by catering to a global audience with multiple language options, giving Perplexity a competitive edge in the long run.
- Custom search prompts: Allow users to define their search context with custom prompts for more tailored results.
These additions could make Perplexity.ai even more powerful and user-friendly. Keep up the great work! ๐ช
thanks for the suggestions, #1 and #2 are in our pipeline. #3 should be already possible with Copilot, you can type in anything and the AI will figure it out, for example: https://www.perplexity.ai/search/87be3f56-1c86-4f5f-8888-0d3778ac86ff?s=u

Not happy with the new co-pilot "feature" - how do we get back to old GTP-4 method? Why did you pick the same branding as github for their programming AI? Before co-pilot, I could use the GPT-4 search when the standard/quick results were sub-par, but now, it's an entirely different product more like AgentGPT - that has it's own very specific use cases, but it's not a sensible alternative or "default" for most questions. The whole "searching the web" idea is horribly flawed: ask anyone - google results these last few years are absolute garbage. If I wanted to use google, I'd put that in my URL - I don't need an AI to fail to find what I'm looking for in google all by itself and waste my time! We're using perplexity because it's better than google: having it just use google is a HUGE downgrade.
You're probably flying into a trademark or similar lawsuit by stealing their branding for an AI product...

Hi @knotty berry @covert sun @mossy tulip , I am trying to use Copilot, but the generated text contains a couple of "[USER_INPUT]".
What does it mean? Is it an intended behavior, a placeholder for something, or just a bug?
@knotty berry @covert sun @mossy tulip Probably better to have both ("old" GPT-4 and Copilot) to fit individual needs.
I just found out that this Copilot works better to generate a longer text by coupling a very specific prompt and the offered follow-up probes.
Totally agree, I would also say that this probably gets better over time as more people use it and it learns what is and isn't working (hopefully).
It's also a larger value prop to have the two options even if just from how it's perceived, and doesn't end up unnecessarily alienating anyone who likes one way over the other. Also, given how much of a competitor this probably is to something like Bing and now Google once they role out there new search AI I Would agree that it's super risky to invite Microsoft(owns GitHub and thus copilot) to attempt to litigate you into obscurity.
Hello, I haven't been a long time user, just started playing around with this awesome product recently, and I did find it odd that the Bot does not know anything about its own privacy policies and etc. Would be cool if data handling policies, privacy policy and any other docs like ToS were accessible to it or it had some kind of pre programmed response.

I am seeing a couple of AI tools releasing writing/summarizing assistant with "Copilot" branding.
Not sure if Microsoft/Github has trademarked it.
Without any registered trademark, I guess the "copilot" term will rise and become common enough along with the growth of AI-based assistants.
Absolutely agree, that old "GPT4" is different from copilot (copilot is like assistant, and enhanced mode is an enhaced mode). So it strange, that copilot replaced it and it will be great if the enhanced mode would be added back.
Let's hope. I mean it is a pretty common term and is more a descriptive term than an actual name imo so I would agree it would be strange to TM without something in front of it like "GitHub" so I definitely see both sides there. There's also the difference in the application of AI and GPT specifically for both GCP and PCP(๐ค) so it probably won't be a problem aside from the occasional kinda unwarranted comparison. I still think it's usually better to not give any of the big boys a reason to bully you and you're team at least while you're growing but perplexity seems to be one of the more stable safer bets on software that you can rely on and count on long term in comparison to a lot of other tools that probably won't exist in 5 or 10 years. Which is super important imo. That and they seem to be less inclined to rest on their laurels and commited to adding value for users and are actually open to feedback which is incredibly rare.
Damn that's a good point
thanks for your feedback, we will consider returning an option of just using gpt4. the reason we didn't do it in the first place is two fold:
- first we believe copilot is just much better experience overall and can get use much better result based on our internal evaluation
- second, we considerably improved results of the quick answer to a point where using gpt-4 ads only marginal improvements (again based on our internal evals)
It still uses bing to search the web, right? or does it use google?
hey, thank you for your detailed feedback! I believe there may be a misunderstanding about how our product functions. In all cases, whether for quick or co-pilot searches, we do utilize the internet to find relevant results. This is, in fact, the primary distinction between our product and ChatGPT, which relies solely on the AI model's output and is therefore prone to inaccuracies or misinformation.
Furthermore, we've considerably improved the performance of the quick search function. At this point, incorporating GPT-4 offers only marginal improvements and, based on our evaluations, doesn't justify the additional latency and cost. This led us to launch Copilot - a tool much more powerful that can fully leverage GPT-4 to research and analyze dozens of web pages, as opposed to just a few.
I hope this helps clarify our decision-making process.
I cannot comment on this unfortunately
I think it's google
what makes you think that?
search operators work better, bing ignores most search operators google doesn't and neither does perplexity, so...
oh I think google's search api is cheaper now, isn't?
search operators like "+site: -site:" ?
yeah
but it maybe just that they have their own version of operators
I used to use bing because I got fomo as everyone was switching to bing cause of bing ai. Only then I realized how bad bing really was
and I mean it... BAD
hey, we have ToS and Privacy policy here: https://www.perplexity.ai/tos, https://www.perplexity.ai/privacy. or you are referring to something else?
the exclusion ("-") operator never works
it does for me :/
it never has
yeah that works, but not excluding words
which google supports
and phind supports that?
idk, but perplexity definitely does
how does -word make sense anyways? what if someone actually meant hyphen and then the word?
that is how it has always been ๐คทโโ๏ธ and it is useful when a word appears in a page that you don't want
I use it like that, -blog and -news so that removes blog and news websites
huh
bing considered it as hyphen and then the word
which actually makes sense
cause the way in google or in search engines in general you use "" to make sure one particular word exist and not +, there should be another way to eliminate words without - symbol
why ? there is no need for hyphen
if you want to search a word with hyphen just exclude the hyphen and it'll work fine
well it's not google's fault people don't read docs or help pages ยฏ_(ใ)_/ยฏ
and it has its use
yeah I can see its use cases and being useful
in any case, I think I'm right about this
because I tested with various other google operators and they worked too
shit, I leaked my location lmao
google's search api is cheaper so yeah it makes sense to use google

It is a known issue - we're definitely trying to make this a smoother experience as well
I understand. I really appreciate the efforts and I'm very excited to test the tool's capabilities to the fullest, as I'm always doing this in search of possible bugs and suggestions. ๐
If I remember correctly, the older version had a "basic" search and an "advance" one, right? (the one that used gpt4) I think that had more uses than copilot has now (if I am not wrong)
I wished that setting will still be on so we can choose either Copilot or that advanced search.
imo, I see Copilot more of a assistant, helping deciding or planning stuff. Still a very good and helpful feature!
But Copilot is that "advanced search", but with improvements and more features.
basically the reason we reduced usage from 20 -> 5 is because Copilot uses GPT-4 more heavily (so you can think of 1 usage of copilot to be similar to 4 usages of enhanced search)
I know, but in my point of view I saw them differently.
The old version helpful for a more complex search and given results
And Copilot more like an assistant or some kind. I was amazed how in the beta it even made me a site in one go with all the files and code lines lol.
Still is a very good update, not even a dislike about it!
yeah we will think about how to allow more flexibility and control for users, so you can select how you want to use it
After all, for e free AI that is so much helpful searching for so many things, this Copilot is a great update.

Although it did flounder in one of my queries I liked its answers it did give and they were actually correct as it was searching in academic journals! Really loving perplexity so far because of this

Perfect. What do you think about the idea of โโPerplexity using multiple search engines (Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo, etc) in order to refine the search for a more accurate answer? Or does he already do that?

The iOS app isnโt worth using. Since I canโt log in and check my old threads, pass off searching between my laptop and phone, itโs simply not as useful as the web app. I still use Perplexity a lot, donโt get me wrong, but I think the web experience on iPhone isnโt flagship tier. The app needs to catch up with the web app. Perplexity is great
are you finding inaccurate results? Using Bing now would be circular as Bing and other search engines are all (kind of) shifting to AI-based search
Canโt seem to get past the cloudflare โverify youโre humanโ check. Are you all taking your service down for VPN users again?
Perplexity isnโt accessible at all, at this time
Hey @blazing crag. It should be working fine now. Please let us know if you're facing any issues
Nope. Still not working. I click the checkbox, it stops to think for a second, then the box reappears unchecked.
No option for captcha at all, curiously enough.
Hi @blazing crag what vpn provider do you use?
How can I use Bing on IOS?
do you have adblockers? many times they block all kinds of non ad scripts too

Ok so I'm gonna be a bit nit-picky about the new copy-paste function. It's kinda great but it's really terrible for discord. Since will embed all the links provided in the copy-paste function. If I copy paste a search result with 3 sources I'll get the lengthy text that was generated first and then and then 4 embedds in a row with the 3 links and at the end the render of the perplexity share link. I know in discord you can prevent loading embeds by <> them. But I guess that breaks the formatting for everything else.
Should add a prefix for this bot on discord
I don't know, I don't use Bing at all
Just realized Bing is bad
I just want a gpt with internet connection, or knowledge over 2021
Perplexity is more like Bing,
Thanks for the detailed feedback about the new feature! We'll see how it can be improved.
@covert sun Hi Alex, not sure if you can help me. I've been using perplexity on my Android for about a week now, Which I was pretty delighted about. @covert sun Is there a way to autofill copilot's suggestions instead of having to type it out?
Hey @lavish holly! Sorry, no autofill for now, but we'll look into it.
Iโm able to access the website again. I didnโt change anything but itโs accessible again. Not sure if anyone here fixed it or if cloudflare was being difficult for you all, without your knowledge.
Everything is working again. For now.

probably vpn server that was blocked by cf. I have it sometimes too on some of the server of the vpn provider. when I switch server to other server it's fixed
Yeah I switched a few servers and was always blocked.
Iโm sure I couldโve found one somewhere that wasnโt blocked but thatโs kind of a pain to do because I never know how long itโll take to find a good server or how well that server will perform.
Mustโve been a dDOS or some kind of attack emanating from the VPN provider - Iโm guessing.
Any possibility of adding back the old enhanced? Is that something you're considering, or are you deciding to stick with the co-pilot for the foreseeable?
@covert sun wow it was convincing... It had all my threads.. i could use copilot... Xid the basically just skin the website and pass it of as an app?
It was rendering the webpage of perplexity.ai inside the app. That is why it had all the features of the website. and then added some google ads to make money off of it
One thing I've noticed is it's not possible to disable the copilot toggle when starting a new thread from a thread that used the copilot, not a huge inconvinience but figured it was worth mentioning ๐

To find the derivative of $$\frac{d}{dx}\left(sin^{-5}x - cos^{3}x\right)$$, we will use the chain rule and the product rule.
First, let's rewrite the expression as:
$$\frac{d}{dx}\left(\frac{1}{sin^5x} - cos^3x\right)$$
Now, we'll find the derivatives of each term separately.
For the first term, $$\frac{1}{sin^5x}$$, we have:

Hi
good idea
yes it will be an option soon
hey, just wanted to let you know in the about page https://www.perplexity.ai/about, when you click on some of the people on the team you aren't redirected to the proper search page.
It's known! thanks for the heads up though!
I am basically a power user now I think, I cannot stress enough how wonderful this app is
On a survey I took I recommended that you guys add buttons on top of the search bar where you can select prompt templates based off an assigned name. For example, template name: summary Prompt: Summarize the article linked here {{link}} Keep in mind these ideas as you write the summary {{notes}} which pops up two input fields where you could fill in the variables link and notes respectively
I'm not fully convinced by the popular threads. Like recently one was "healthy restaurants in SF", I live in Europe... maybe vaguely base it on location data?
Yes popular threads don't seem that good, I think it should only display the top rated threads this month. There could be a separate more wild discovery section
popular now are in a very early stage, will get personalized over time
Hey I'm new here, this app is the best AI app ever, better than chatgpt and all the others I've tested
I feel stupid, I only found out today that you can remove sources you don't want. Which makes it even more amazing than I initially thought ๐
I didn't know about that I'm just discovering it
I've been using it since yesterday but I love it, I definitely see this replacing 50% of my Google searches
At least the knowledge searches
Another thing would be cool is that you could limit the age of articles to be considered. I did some research on a Microsoft Teams error and it considered old articles from 2-3 years ago. It would be nice if you could limit the sources to a certain maximum age.
Probably consider adding an optional "country" input in user's profile. That may also help.
I personally do not prefer if PerplexityAI takes my location data using web trackers.
Hey @lean wagon! You can use the bot in the #๐โask channel. Tag @ PerplexityAI and ask your questions.
Here perplexity just did a blatant blunder, he assures me that in the first cycle the k value represents keys, not values, however this is not true
https://www.perplexity.ai/search/b980a492-a9c9-4e42-be5a-14b4cc24ac70?s=c
In Lua, the two codes you provided are examples of generic for loops using the pairs function to iterate over a table:
for _, k in pairs(table)for k in pairs(table)
The pairs function iterates over all elements in a table, returning key-value pairs in an arbitrary order[1]. In both examples, k represents the key in the table...
maybe he got perplexed because I named it k, but as it is well known the second value in a pair always represents values
Sometimes I run into a problem when example a book titled "SQL techniques for system developers" is in the answer and "SQL techniques" is underlined, if I click on it, I get a definition of "SQL". I still don't know how underlines could be better but at least for now could give a hint regarding what will it do?
I really don't want to try them out, because I lose the related follow ups, and most likely remove that answer
About underlines: When do they appear? I sometimes got a text with like 3 products and one of them is underlined. It seems quite inconsistent in general when something is underlined. I love the basic idea of it though. I often click on them.
How did the old enhanced work? I joined too late to try it
But now I'm very curious
Feel free to reply in #๐ฌโgeneral instead, probably better than here
you had 20 gpt-4 style questions you could ask on a 4 hour sliding window like it is now. Though I felt the accuracy on the old enhanced was much more confident then the co-pilot is now
That sounds pretty sweet ngl
ik the closest I can get to the accuracy I was experiencing with the old enhanced is Bard, but Bard is not as accurate as Perplexity's enhanced

Can we have the ability to update/edit our question like chatgpt?
Hi
Hi this is already implemented
It would be nice to be able to view our deleted threads
Here's a very half-baked idea. For the past few years I've curated RSS feeds for multiple Slack channels, e.g. related to technical leadership, product management, speech recognition, C++, Python, and several others. I'm thinking about how Perplexity isn't that far off from being able to create a distinct 'persona' for each of these channels (or perhaps just the group of RSS feeds behind of them). E.g. what if I could turn my group of leadership RSS feeds into a leadership coach? Does this make any sense?
Thanks for the suggestion @velvet stag, but I assume if users delete threads, they don't want to have that info saved anymore, so that should be erased and not accessible in any way.
but what if they sometimes want to reuse that information or delete it by mistake? (i did that and i had to use it.
so you basically want something like a recycle bin ?
yes. and it would be nice.
not only for research but also if you wnat to read about something you searched on a long time ago and thought you had it with you, but don't
folder system for threads would be nice
I don't see that option. Just asked it a question and that's what it shows. v1.5.0 on iOS
that feature is currently only on the web version of Perplexity
There should be an option to reset thread which should not open pop up and instead just reset the thread (Which I can do by clicking on logo icon)
Still replies in English quite often ๐ถ
Every time there is one or more English words in my question, maybe this could be the problem
we will add an option soon where you can specify your default language
Every time I use the app, I get blown away by something :D Thank you for the good work ๐ I hope some paid option is coming soon, just take my money already ๐
Hey my favorite search engine.
I love perplexity and it's helped me so much.
All new features you added were fantastic so far. However, I am not a great fan of co-pilot. I guess it's also prompt driven in the back and it gets some stuff annoyingly wrong when it asks for clarifications. It makes everything slightly clumsier than when I had to clarify things myself before imho.
Thanks for providing such a great tool.
An option to choose between letting the gpt suggest clarifications and just clarifying yourself would be nice.
thanks for the feedback we will look into improving follow ups for copilot
You can also and [in Italian] in the end of your promt for now (although it is hard to always do it every time you start a new thread).
I have the issue too
Does anybody know how to make perplexity continue if the answer reached maximum keywords?
@mossy tulip do you know why this is happening
I think they made a mistake in the code. It's not just you with the problem.
Oh ok
Hi @lavish holly! Sorry for the late response. This should be already fixed. Could you please check and confirm that it works fine.
Yep I noticed it got fixed ๐
sorry about that, was a bad code push

Perplexity still gets simple math questions incorrect for some reason even when using Wolfram alpha, I asked it to calculate the mean and median of a set of 16 numbers and it didn't get it correct, when I plugged in the same question to Wolfram alpha it got it right. Why?
on regular or copilot?
@lavish holly For me regular, I heard copilot is a similar deal
in my experience, I sometimes have what you mentioned happen where wolfram outputs the correct answer but perplexity uses a different process and gives a wrong answer instead of prioritizing wolfram's output
but oftentimes I find that copilot gets the concepts/formulas right, but the basic math is incorrect
Weird, hope it gets better
I hope so too, but it's already way better than other AI by being able to get the right steps (which I found others struggle with)
though I'm not sure how gpt 4 with wolfram plugin is
will that be a search in other language and translate in back to my language?
Clearly, this is some sort of misinterpretation
Your "share" option is not useful. It always points to the start of a thread, when almost always we're going to want the person we shared with to read the END of the thread (last question/answer).
It's a bug, @hollow dome. Thanks for reporting.
what does link3 point to?
Thanks for the feedback, @vapid mason! We've had the thread sharing opening with the last questions/answers some time ago, but switched to the first ones as starting there users can see what questions brought you to the last one.
As for the single answer sharing, isn't the 'copy' button implemented recently more useful for that?
@covert sun "copy" does not suit many things (twitter, discord with formatting, emails when you don't want to pollute the train-of-thought etc). Might I suggest you add one more "share" icon immediately beside the copy icon? This would allow us to share the thread, with an appropriate #anchor to jump to the specific thing we wanted to share (usually will be the last one). From YOUR point of view - you should be doing this as a first-resort: it is a better business model to drive new users to your site so they can experience your awesomeness, than using "copy" which means that potential new users never have any reason to visit your site in the first place.
We want to make it easy and convenient for users to explore and share, so we add all those buttons and ways to share and we'll look into the ways you suggested for sure, as well. Thank you!
Have you guys tested the Claude model from Antrophic? It has performance like ChatGPT, but is faster and has a 100k context window.

I remember I tried to ask something with copilot mode from this screen and I think I somehow got the response in normal mode

I think it is inferior to gpt-4
I see, that kinda makes sense. The one thing I did mainly use it for was translation of Chinese into English and gpt-4 was definitely way better in that regard than Claude
Could you increase the number of Copilot uses in the future? Currently, Copilot only has 5 uses every four hours, which is not enough for most tasks.
They mentioned that they will increase uses dw be patient

I think the std::sort() part should be seen as a bug and must not be in the answer, although I have no idea what might have caused such behaviour.

Something weird with the Android App: I can say "OK Google" followed by "Open XXX" for any of my apps (Signal, Gmail, Beem, Outlook, etc etc) - EXCEPT Perplexity. Every time I say "Open Perplexity", it says "here are some results from the web" and does not open the app. Does anyone else have the same problem? Also - it would be better if we could easily use our voice to ask questions when in the app, and have the answers read out to us - there's no point installing an app when it does nothing different to the website!
@trail iris that's not a bug - that's how LLM's work. It's called "embedding space" - the context of your question, including everything in related threads that took place beforehand, determine how the language model is going to respond, plus, a certain amount of randomness is always injected (called "temperature") because it was found that without the random, it doesn't work properly (weird but true).
Please include timestamps for when these articles were published. Makes it easy to see if the articles are still relevant or if their old news.
Yeah, thanks I know. But imho minimizing amount of hallucinations is one of the main priorities, so those situation should be bugreported.
Suggestion for a small, but helpful, change. I think it would apply to web and mobile. When copilot suggests some possible follow on questions, it would be great if those questions remained available. Right now if you pick one follow on question, the other suggestions disappear. My manual workaround is to just copy/paste the questions into notepad, but it would be nice if they just remained in the chat flow.
Hey guys. What are the updates on Perplexity? Any new topics under discussion?
As cool as Perplexity pro has been, I think claiming its a "Pro Discord Community" is a bit misleading considering anybody can join without bieng a subscriber. Additionally there is no trial for monthly subscibtion, which is kinda sad
@spare sable there's a private channel for Pro users. You should see a link in your email after you subscribe. There's also a link in your settings after you subscribe.
The link in settings after subscribtion leads to this server, and I have not recived any emails from perplexity. I subscribed almost half and hour ago so not sure if its just a delay, or if there is some larger issue
Will look into it!
Just to double check, this is the right button?
I have been trying to ask some questions to perplexity however, all I'm getting is , it's not being able to process the question and then it's saying trying again later with some reference code.
yes this should be the button
does it work for you?
Yes, I think the roles just took some time to register or something, but I see the channels now. Thank you for helping me
I think the PRO plan price of $20/month is a bit high. If it was $10, with yearly $100 and then the 10% discount for community members, I'd subscribe straight away...
5 per 4 hours
me too but a lot of people are saying that it is worth it ๐คทโโ๏ธ
Have the same issue. The link is redirecting me to welcome channel, but don't have any "pro" channels and email messages
According to the announcement channel, discount is $10, so the total price should be $20 - $10 = $10, what is almost the price you suggested. (correct me, if I'm wrong)
I think this price is ok, because you get a powerful and fast research tool for 100 uses per 4 hours, and that's more than ChatGPT has. Also, 1 use of Copilot can cause multiple requests to ChatGPT4, so it looks like we're getting ~200 uses of ChatGPT4 every 4 hours. And this is just the beginning, because the team is preparing new features for us
Well, $200/year minus $10 is still $190/year ๐
It's not that we'd get $10 discount every month.
Same problem here, I don't know what would happen if I leave the server and joined through the button on that page though. Perhaps it would work that way
Also agreed, the pricing is very reasonable considering that ChatGPT's GPT-4 is only 25 every 3 hours in comparison for virtually the same price. While Perplexity's Pro is at least 100 every 4 hours but realistically more if you consider the background work it also does I imagine with copilot enabled. I forgot to apply the $10 discount code to my yearly trial but I don't mind, it's worth every cent ๐
Only one thing I'd like to mention though, perhaps the web UI could show how long it is until the 'up to 100' uses resets?
Same problem here, I have registered for Pro, but when I try to join the Discord from the settings, I am directed to this Discord.
How can I join the Pro Discord? Do I get invited to a new channel?
Infinite "Wrapping up". Before it, I get "Error in processing query..."

Why not introduce a public roadmap for features, as even with the constant dev contact we as users feel completely in the dark about what features are going to be releasing when. Jun 4 - other feature
Jun 10 - third feature

All the references for the last answer (about XFS) are wrong (they're the same at the previous references, which are for a different file system ZFS): https://www.perplexity.ai/search/6574228c-cbd9-4274-9e12-3e31dd4806a2?s=u
To enable debug mode in ZFS, you can follow these steps:
-
Compile with the preprocessor symbol DEBUG defined: Debug mode is enabled by compiling with the preprocessor symbol DEBUG defined[1]. For example, on OpenZFS on OS X, you can enable debug mode by defining the DEBUG symbol during compilation[1].
-
Set the Debug_level property: If you ...
The second answer is also wrong in that same thread - in the forum post referenced, the admin answered "yes" (he's using it), which does NOT mean "yes", it's working. If you read the forum answer - it was a disaster, but Perplexity is quoting it wrong as a "Pro" when it's not - it's a "Con".
If you've got logic someplace that tries to work out if sentiment is "positive" or "negative" - the way that admin answered is being misinterpreted.
Hello Everyone,
When I ask Perplexity Maths questions it gives me these latex variable names while writing the answer. Can we please fix this?
To learn the BFS algorithm using a GNN, we need to define a message function, an aggregation function, and an update rule.
Message Function
The message function should allow nodes to communicate with their neighbors. In this case, we want to send a message from each visited node to its unvisited neighbors. We can define the message functio...
The issue also exists on Copilot and the regular search.
As an AI language model, I cannot identify any grammatical errors made by Superman in the provided chat. However, there are some typos and informal language used, which may not be considered grammatical errors in a casual conversation. If you have any specific concerns or questions regarding grammar, feel free to provide more details, and I will try my best to assist you. Gave it chat. It's kinda annoying that it refuses to proof read the chat. As a langauge model it surely knows grammar...
yes, we are working on it
could you share your thread?
can I share it in DM? since it's like not public chat.
yes please
Artificial intelligence (AI) is the simulation of human intelligence processes by machines, especially computer systems[1]. AI has been used in various fields such as business, education, and language learning[2][3][4]. AI can be used to automate tasks, generate new ideas, and provide personalized learning experiences. AI requires specialized ha...
When I translate this sentence from Spanish to English, it doesn't work. I tried doing it the other way around, and it didn't work either. Even in Copilot, it doesn't do it. I asked it to use sources written in Spanish, but it searched in English.
did you try searching in spanish ?
What I'm looking for is for it to be able to search for sources in another language but keep the language I'm speaking to it in.
In my case, it is a request that is important, especially in academic articles.
oh yeah, perplexity doesn't do that yet
for now you can just add "in spanish" at the end of the question then copy and paste it
and tell it to translate
but yeah they said they're going to add the ability to search in other languages
I will be very excited when I am able to do it. Knowledge has to break the barriers of language.
Above all, I feel that perplexity will grow even more by satisfying a need in the academic sphere.
And I base this on my perception that people generally only need a basic version of ChatGPT to answer a few simple things to have fun for a few minutes, but those who use it the most are for learning purposes, they need those data to be verified.
what does the Academic sector of perplexity do? like what is its main function or what it is best at doing.?
is the model hallucinating here?
yes, it is, will look into it
I think i really like this since it is first time I come across with Perplexity provide images in its answer
Why can't I paste a link to code and get an answer to "what does this code do?" for example, https://www.perplexity.ai/search/4a1a4c55-01cb-465a-a20e-05bde5300c28
The code you provided is part of the Dino project, which is a modern XMPP ("Jabber") chat client using GTK+/Vala[1]. The specific file, global_search.vala, is a part of the user interface (UI) for the Dino chat client.
Although the search results do not provide explicit details about the global_search.vala file, we can infer its purpose bas...
if i copy/paste the code into the question, it works fine
assuming the code is small enough to fit into the limits of the text box
there are certain limitations accessing urls, especially from github, we will try to improve this so this usecase works
i sort of assumed the bot/code can't figure out the html from the code, so i gave it the raw code to help it along
but i also assume it can't handle anything more than a few functions
I know what that code does, but i wanted to see if the LLM could make understanding quicker or more clear
are you running into the input length limitation?
It's hard to enter code blocks as they look like this. The response supports code blocks, but not the input. So, I would suggest having a markdown input box like Discord. Basically what I'm saying is that if there is markdown output, there should be markdown input. I would also add a tooltip like discord has.
What if the raw githubusercontent URL was inserted?
good idea, we can add this
Thanks, also I think the way the input looks it is way too casual and mobile-oriented. The rounded corners are excessive so it looks more like a chat app.
Just switched to Pro. For me personally, Perplexity is quite addictive - I spent many hours a day researching various topics and in general searching for stuff all the time, and with Perplexity and its wonderful Copilot this feels almost perplexing how much it speeds up my workflow! Keep up the awesome work devs!
The Future of AI: Impact on Jobs
As we stand at the precipice of the fourth industrial revolution, the rapid advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) and automation are poised to reshape the job market in unprecedented ways. While the integration of AI into various industries has the potential to boost productivity and economic growth, i...
prompts me how long i want essays but it doesn't follow that too well ๐
thanks!
interesting, AI models currently not very good at following instructions to specify output lenghts, it is one of the limitations of transformers
I copy-pasted the essay and my text processor says it is 526 words long - I assume the OP meant 500 words as well, so the final result is well within 10% margin, for me good enough ๐
Yeah this one was good, but I'm not sure if it was a fluke or not because I had tried another asking for 430 and it gave me 550
Here is a sketch I drew detailing a couple of re-designs which (in my opinion) would make perplexity significantly better with only tiny redesigns.
If your wondering why is it necessary to move the writing mode to the main UI, the reason is that not only does it not make sence for writing mode to be in a tab for (mostly) filters, but also this would make it easier to switch on and off!
I wonder if it's possible and if it's helpful, but I sorta like a global switch that tells the AI that I prefer metric units over imperial
Good suggestions, @spare sable! Thanks for sharing this sketch
yeah that would be helpfull as like a setting where you can select your preferences such as:
- Metric / Imperial (as stated)
- Farenhieght / Celcius [though celcius is obviously better)
- Currencies [for auto conversion]
- Language [a setting to hardcode the output of the ai to a certain language]
These and many more could probably auto-appended to the end of the prompt
Hey @heady plover! Please read the #๐โrules of the server and post in a proper channel (#๐โcool-projects), if you are working on these, that's okay.
writing filter is a temporary solution, we are working on something more general but it will take a bit of time. it should also address your concerns about prompt perfection
