we increased the limit a bit, the reason behind this cut off is quite technical but in a nutshell it is because languages outside of english require more resources to be generated

@mossy tulip I can't save the whole thread using official notion web clipper, each save only saves the first conversation in that thread. I don't know if this is due to a limitation of the feature in perplexity itself or if the notion web clipper is unstable.

Don't ask why I tried to summarize a twitter page... but I wonder

  • if the "javascript not available" happens with just this page or with more / all twitter pages, and
  • if other websites can suffer from this kind of problem.

I don't think I want to share the thread nor the twitter URL in question tho, sorry if that makes investigation harder...

Hello, I have downloaded perplexity 9 days ago after I saw a linkedin post.

#

I have been using it for the past 9 days quite actively

#

Yesterday I removed safari from my frequently used applications

#

And added perplexity instead

#

I now use perplexity as my main search app

#

It has been quite interesting. None of the apps that I have tried in the past removed another app that I have been using for years

#

I also started using the chrome add on today

#

I recommended the app to 2 of my friends and my aunt who is learning web development. My aunt told me that the app was really useful to her.

#

This application is something else guys. I do not know what exactly this app will evolve into but as long as you keep this app free and without ads I think this has the highest possibility of completely replacing google search

#

I still cannot believe how I downloaded this app and how it literally took over every other app that I use for search for the past 10+ years ie google and aafari

Good morning. I'm French and I love Perplexity. However, one reason prevents me from completely switching to it: often, when spoken to in French, the AI responds in English. From an ergonomic point of view, the platform is therefore less easy to use than Bing or Chat GPT but concentrates the best of both worlds. A small fix of the Perplexity app (like a default language setting) and a global translation of the app would be absolutely brilliant. Well done for the work.

#

I add that the application does not allow the analysis of more complex texts and does not provide an answer while Bing or Chat GPT does. It confines itself to fairly simple questions. For example, when Perplexity is asked to solve a legal problem, the application does not succeed, unlike the other two.

Hey @dim socket! Thanks for your kind words and detailed feedback. The model now understands questions in different languages better, but if so happens that it answers in English, you have an option to edit the last question that got the wrong output and edit your question, adding "rรฉponse en Franรงais" or just "en Franรงais". Try like that and let us know if it helps.

As for the complex questions issue, do you refer to the concise answers? Have you also tried both the detailed option? Now that you also have the enhanced answers option, we'd love to hear if that works better for you. Thanks!

I got a bit confused now regarding sharing: the shared link doesn't remember the Concise or Detailed state, and if you choose "View detailed" after you receive a shared link, you will get different detailed results.

So if I share a link and I reference to an information in a detailed block - the other party won't have an idea what I'm referencing to, and even if he changes all states to detailed he most likely won't see the same information as me.

So, how can I handle a situation like this (referencing something in a detailed block)?

In general, I'm enjoying perplexity web app. Two thoughts:

  1. Please keep the web app a first class product as I don't have a phone to install "apps", I do run everything in a web browser on a mobile computer.
  2. It would be great if you supported actual accounts via username/password instead of "email to receive a link". Having a username/password cuts out an extra step in logging in. I find I rarely login because of this extra step to access my threads. I do login when I want to create a dedicated/longer thread of 10+ actions.

Hi, just random feedback. I have been trying out a range of what I call "next-generation search engines"* like Perplexity for the past few weeks with a variety of queries. Love perplexity.ai overall. Both the app and web browser are great and I think the ability to switch between "sources" (e.g., academic, wikipedia) is awesome.

On that, one piece of feedback: for the academic option, it doesn't seem to weight more cited publications or publications in more prestigious journals more heavily. This results in somewhat obscure summaries about the current state of literature based on articles that really barely anyone associates with the literature VS anchoring on the seminal pieces that should be some of the first results returned

I gave Perplexity ai a Test

#

"Write a poem about love without the letter "a".

#

Here's what it gave me:

#

The two poems have the letter "a" in them.

#

So Perplexity ai failed the test.

#

That's because it gets those poems from the web.

radiant kindle
#

Not exactly. Let me explain (might take a while for me to type if you are reading this in real time)

#

First, the language model is likely unaware of "what words has the letter a". The language model associates words with their meaning and relation to other words, but isn't aware that the word has the letter a or not - to the model, a word might as well just be a number (that internally represents this word).
You can confirm this by asking OpenAI's ChatGPT to write such a poem - despite lacking internet access, ChatGPT also includes the letter a in its poem.

#

Second, in your screenshot, Perplexity did not have that little number thing in its response, meaning the language model did not directly pull anything from the web search results given. (At least that's my guess, you can try to confirm it by clicking open the sources and comparing the text)
Perplexity's system will feed the language model web search results whenever there are something to be found, but this doesn't mean the language model will use all the search results it got.

Bard vs Perplexity side by side on the prompt "step by step explanation of the derivative of sigmoid"

Hello everyone,
I have been using Bard and Perplexity since the time that Bard rolled out. Perplexity gives better answers to almost all prompts than Bard. The clearest example that demonstrates Perplexity being ahead of Bard are the images above. Perplexity is just way ahead in terms of the ability to do/explain maths.

I like perplexity the most because it is the best Private Tutor at any topic that is ready to answer my questions.

Thank you for this product. I have been using it for the 4th week I think and it has absolutely transformed my life.

My only recommendation would be to not show the animation where the text gets generated after I press the search button. One reason that I prefer Bard at simple questions is that I do not wait for the writing animation. Bard gives the textual information all at once.

Thanks!

There should be settings that you can turn on to automatically

It's possible to do this right now manually, but it would be nice if we can have this happen all the time.

Can you please clarify "sources", "wolfram"?

Both answers attempts to calculate kN

In 3.5 answer the result is 3,924 N.

then ...

"To convert newtons to kN, we can divide the force in newtons by 1000. Therefore, the force in kN is 3.924 N / 1000 = 0.003924 kN."

The language model seems to confuse 3,924 N with 3.924 N.

Therefore I find the query worth examining and fine tuning the language model most likely can correct the output.

The only thing thatโ€™s keeping me in chatGPT is the fact that I can edit all my prompts, not only the last one. Itโ€™s really useful to be in control of the chat history. Also, a toggle to turn on or off internet access would be great. As sometimes you just want GPT to do some text processing without introducing new data.

#

If you want perplexity to become the main space of LLM use. You need another option that allows users to implement their own data (pdf, twt, url, โ€ฆ) and then this data is processed using langchain so that GPT now has this knowledge. This way people can write in depth about certain topics and not just the general overview that basic internet offers, or what GPT is trained on.

#

In the future, a business model will be required. Then you can implement ads based on the topic that is answered. And offer premium pass that has no ads and unlimited use (like it is now).

A tip: good tools only have one thing to pay for, as soon as you start implementing many subscription levels, you lose massive amounts of trust.

I discourage any use of ads for any business model. Pay for subscriptions, sure. sharing with openai should be opt-out by default, users can opt-in if they want to for a discount or something like that.

Not happy with the new co-pilot "feature" - how do we get back to old GTP-4 method? Why did you pick the same branding as github for their programming AI? Before co-pilot, I could use the GPT-4 search when the standard/quick results were sub-par, but now, it's an entirely different product more like AgentGPT - that has it's own very specific use cases, but it's not a sensible alternative or "default" for most questions. The whole "searching the web" idea is horribly flawed: ask anyone - google results these last few years are absolute garbage. If I wanted to use google, I'd put that in my URL - I don't need an AI to fail to find what I'm looking for in google all by itself and waste my time! We're using perplexity because it's better than google: having it just use google is a HUGE downgrade.

Totally agree, I would also say that this probably gets better over time as more people use it and it learns what is and isn't working (hopefully).
It's also a larger value prop to have the two options even if just from how it's perceived, and doesn't end up unnecessarily alienating anyone who likes one way over the other. Also, given how much of a competitor this probably is to something like Bing and now Google once they role out there new search AI I Would agree that it's super risky to invite Microsoft(owns GitHub and thus copilot) to attempt to litigate you into obscurity.

There's also the difference in the application of AI and GPT specifically for both GCP and PCP(๐Ÿค”) so it probably won't be a problem aside from the occasional kinda unwarranted comparison. I still think it's usually better to not give any of the big boys a reason to bully you and you're team at least while you're growing but perplexity seems to be one of the more stable safer bets on software that you can rely on and count on long term in comparison to a lot of other tools that probably won't exist in 5 or 10 years. thanks for your feedback, we will consider returning an option of just using gpt4. the reason we didn't do it in the first place is two fold:

  • first we believe copilot is just much better experience overall and can get use much better result based on our internal evaluation
  • second, we considerably improved results of the quick answer to a point where using gpt-4 ads only marginal improvements (again based on our internal evals)

mossy tulip
# vapid mason Not happy with the new co-pilot "feature" - how do we get back to old GTP-4 meth...

hey, thank you for your detailed feedback! I believe there may be a misunderstanding about how our product functions. In all cases, whether for quick or co-pilot searches, we do utilize the internet to find relevant results. This is, in fact, the primary distinction between our product and ChatGPT, which relies solely on the AI model's output and is therefore prone to inaccuracies or misinformation.

Furthermore, we've considerably improved the performance of the quick search function. At this point, incorporating GPT-4 offers only marginal improvements and, based on our evaluations, doesn't justify the additional latency and cost. This led us to launch Copilot - a tool much more powerful that can fully leverage GPT-4 to research and analyze dozens of web pages, as opposed to just a few.

I hope this helps clarify our decision-making process.

Since I canโ€™t log in and check my old threads, pass off searching between my laptop and phone, itโ€™s simply not as useful as the web app. I still use Perplexity a lot, donโ€™t get me wrong, but I think the web experience on iPhone isnโ€™t flagship tier. Ok so I'm gonna be a bit nit-picky about the new copy-paste function. It's kinda great but it's really terrible for discord. Since will embed all the links provided in the copy-paste function. If I copy paste a search result with 3 sources I'll get the lengthy text that was generated first and then and then 4 embedds in a row with the 3 links and at the end the render of the perplexity share link. I know in discord you can prevent loading embeds by <> them. But I guess that breaks the formatting for everything else.

To find the derivative of $$\frac{d}{dx}\left(sin^{-5}x - cos^{3}x\right)$$, we will use the chain rule and the product rule.

First, let's rewrite the expression as:
$$\frac{d}{dx}\left(\frac{1}{sin^5x} - cos^3x\right)$$

Now, we'll find the derivatives of each term separately.

For the first term, $$\frac{1}{sin^5x}$$, we have:

In Lua, the two codes you provided are examples of generic for loops using the pairs function to iterate over a table:

  1. for _, k in pairs(table)
  2. for k in pairs(table)

The pairs function iterates over all elements in a table, returning key-value pairs in an arbitrary order[1]. In both examples, k represents the key in the table...

This would allow us to share the thread, with an appropriate #anchor to jump to the specific thing we wanted to share (usually will be the last one). From YOUR point of view - you should be doing this as a first-resort: it is a better business model to drive new users to your site so they can experience your awesomeness, than using "copy" which means that potential new users never have any reason to visit your site in the first place.

#

@trail iris that's not a bug - that's how LLM's work. It's called "embedding space" - the context of your question, including everything in related threads that took place beforehand, determine how the language model is going to respond, plus, a certain amount of randomness is always injected (called "temperature") because it was found that without the random, it doesn't work properly (weird but true).

I think this price is ok, because you get a powerful and fast research tool for 100 uses per 4 hours, and that's more than ChatGPT has.
