yeah R1 is a gamechanger, in my opinion easier to work with than Sonnet

#

R1 is great at just thinking before doing

tame current
#

like i tried both

#

and i still like sonnet ig

#

like for code i could get the basic structure from r1 ig

#

then improve it with sonnet

abstract ibex
#

the problem with sonnet for me is that it believes is right all the time, so it doesn't try to think of potential issues

yeah

the best way is to use both

Because people don’t realize there’s a difference between chat.deepseek.com and the model: someone is talking about censorship, but that only applies to chat.deepseek.com. Yesterday I read about how the search on DeepSeek is supposedly inaccurate, and again people don’t realize that the basic model doesn’t include search; the search is handled by something else, and the same goes for their site. It all depends on where and how the DeepSeek model is deployed. You should understand that chat.deepseek.com is a free, easily accessible version, and that’s its biggest advantage.

It has a max token output of like 500

So its essentially a handicapped r1

#

That performs like crap

They limited the token output to save costs

Thats why we see longer responses

Which are clear and concise

modern sinew

They're cutting costs by limiting models context, choosing quantity over quality.

# small tree Its not the standalone model

Interesting info. I suspect that even with the token limit, it will still perform better than running r1 32b locally but with this info, I'll probably put that to a test.

My guess is, perplexity was given a gift, well the whole world was given the gift of r1 but because perplexity is all about maximizing profit and lowering operating costs they released the already low cost r1 and reduced its cost even further by limiting max token count and in return perplexity gets to advertise that they have a us hosted version of r1 with a 500 query count, not mentioning that its handicapped to 200 word responses.

#

given there are 5 free tries per day with the reasoning model (e.g. R1), I thought I'd see if I can replicate the problem I get with Sonar Reasoning on the API and on the Labs website.

I first ask: How many R's are in the word strawberry? and after that I then ask How many R's are in the word raspberry? in the same conversation/thread.

If I ask this on labs.perplexity website to Sonar Reasoning it fails, it answers the raspberry question as if I'm asking the strawberry question again. If I do this over the API I seem to get a similar incorrect response.

However, on Perplexity's main website R1 answers both questions correctly and doesn't get stuck on only answering the first question regarding strawberry interestingly. I guess the main website is using a slightly different model for R1 and it's a problem with Sonar Reasoning

hybrid leaf
#

Hey guys. Purchased Pro today directly.
The aim was to use Perplexity for everything.

But now I understand that perplexity is mainly as a searching option only?
I did ask perplexity support in spaces, how I can turn off search for certain things and use it like chatgpt for content writing and various other stuff. (using deepseek/openai), But that's not available.

So everything related to search I can use in Perplexity and non search still have to use Chatgpt I guess?

serene sand
hybrid leaf

I see the option only for reasoning.
So what is used for writing now?

serene sand
hybrid leaf
# serene sand Please check tutorials in `deep dive `

Checked Timestamps of the 4 tutorials there. They all explain about search.
One video has on focus but not concentrate on writing.

I just want to know how I can use it like chatgpt.
Want to use it to write using O1 or R1, without search. I assume that is not possible?

general writing uses Perplexity model I think?

it does not?

#

bruh what r u on

#

this was on gpt 4 o btw

waxen lion
waxen lion
#

deepseek r1 gave this btw
9.99 is greater than 9.11.

Key Comparison Steps:

  1. Whole Number Check: Both numbers share the same whole number part (9).
  2. Decimal Place Analysis:
    • Tenths place:
      • 9.99 has 9 (0.9)
      • 9.11 has 1 (0.1)
      • 9 > 1, so 9.99 is already larger at this stage.
    • Note: Even if subsequent decimal places (hundredths) were compared, 9.99’s 9 in the hundredths place still exceeds 9.11’s 1.

Mathematical Proof:

  • Subtraction:
    $$ 9.99 - 9.11 = 0.88 $$
    A positive result confirms 9.99 > 9.11.

  • Fraction Conversion:

    • 9.99 = $$ 9 \frac{99}{100} $$
    • 9.11 = $$ 9 \frac{11}{100} $$
      Since $$ \frac{99}{100} > \frac{11}{100} $$, 9.99 > 9.11.

Visual Representation:

On a number line:

9.0 ────9.11───────9.99─────10.0

9.99 lies farther to the right, indicating it is larger.

Conclusion: The higher digit in the tenths place makes 9.99 the larger number.

Create a whimsical and humorous illustration featuring a tiger and a hippo both standing on top of a toilet in a classic T-pose. The tiger should be balanced confidently on the toilet lid, with its arms extended horizontally and its tail slightly curled. The hippo, larger and more comical, is balanced precariously behind or beside the tiger, also in a T-pose, with an exaggerated expression of determination or humor. The toilet is clean and modern, set in a simple bathroom scene with tiled walls and a neutral color palette. The overall tone should be playful and absurd, emphasizing the unlikely pairing of these two animals in such a quirky scenario. The style can be cartoonish or semi-realistic, focusing on the fun and surreal nature of the composition.

Just out of curiosity, I’m reading that they blocked the DeepSeek app in the App Store in Italy. I was thinking there’s some panic going around about keypress mapping. So I tried to see if DeepSeek runs in the background on my Android phone when the app is closed. Surprise, surprise, it doesn’t. So, if I open the DeepSeek app, there’s a background process; if I close the DeepSeek app, all processes end.

Please tell me: since the app maps keystrokes when the app is open, if I’m pressing keys, I’m basically typing, right? 😄 So the app is looking at keystrokes while typing — which is the whole point, to enter input. 😄 So please explain to me what this panic is about.

Figured it out...

If you are already logged into Perplexity with a personal paid account or a free account, you need to Sign out of that account.

When not already signed in, go to: https://perplexity.ai/join/p/gov/GOVFREEYEAR

Enter your email using your .gov email and click Continue with email

You will be sent a code by email (seems mostly less than a minute before email arrives). Enter the code from the email into the screen that opens after you clicked "continuing with your .gov email"

Click Continue

On the next screen, click Continue again

Click Continue again...

You should see pro next to your user account icon in the bottom left at this time...

gemini 2.0 is officially out

tepid sequoia
# cloud marsh nvm its still stupid

Stupid? That’s too mild a word. For example, I give it a link and tell it to translate the entire article for me, but I get back the same link and the same message five times. I ask who the President of America is, and I get a message saying it doesn’t talk about politics. I tell it to find me articles about o3-mini, and in a single word it says that o3-mini hasn’t been released yet and won’t be until the end of January. I still want links and articles, but it doesn’t have internet access 😄 😄 The Gemini service is just a joke, but that’s not the model’s problem—it’s the service itself. I’m using the Gemini 2.0 Flash model in another service, and it works great with everything I’ve mentioned.

cloud marsh

the 2.0 flash model is not capable answering simple questions like "Is the day before tomorrow's yesterday the same as the day after yesterday's tomorrow?"

I currently have a Pro account and am very interested in the enterprise account for my firm. Essentially, I have (and will continue to) upload standards and workflows to a space on perplexity. I would like to embed this space into a Microsoft Teams Tab and allow all the staff within my firm, the ability to ask it questions. Ideally, they dont have to be invited or create an account. It would be internal, but publically internall if that makes sense. Is this something I can do with the enterprise account? What additional costs or limitations should I consider before moving on this.

empty snow
# chrome crystal perplexity

I clearly use perplexity but anyway i have to choose a model for may answer and since perplexity has both of them and gemini is free my question was about which choose

empty snow
#

i'm graduating in Informatic Engeneering. so i use AI most as a second teacher for my lessons

#

so coding, math and so on

chrome crystal
#

im doing a similar major as well

#

then i would stick with 4o

#

claude was super useful for natural text and coding tho

#

otherwise 4o did basically everything else

and o1 is super useful for those hard lesson questions

so 4o default and rewrite with sonnet if 4o wrong answer

chrome crystal

now that ik your talking about through perplexity, i would choose sonnet

empty snow
#

ya, i'm using perplexity pro, so I have 4o, sonnet, grok 2.0, and sonar

chrome crystal
#

that makes more sense now

#

since perplexity is more of a "research-based" AI, sonnet would make more sense since it gives natural-sounding text, unlike 4o and stuff

#

and since you practically pay for pro, you have o1 access so pairing o1 and sonnet will give you "brains + clarity"

empty snow
#

uhm ok, i work a lot with upload documents, often photo anyway.

Anyone else been having an issue of uploaded source images randomly being used in a completely different thread? Is this known about? I'm not sure if I should make a bug report yet, I didn't see one about this. 40m ago, in a separate thread, I uploaded picture of a math question to help analyze a couple graphs (which it did wonderfully), but now, in a new thread, I asked it a question about Hamlet Act 1, Scene 2 which went well, then I asked for a short summary of Scene 2, and it brought up the images from the previous thread and made an answer completely unrelated to Hamlet. There was no images when I initially started the thread, or when I asked the follow up.

The Perplexity version doesn't show R1's reasoning. Horrible decision.

  • With difficult questions, the thinking chain is worth almost as much as the answer IMO.
  • For prompt-adjusting of course. But more so just following the pattern.
  • It's so good that it leaves you thinking "I knew that already" even though you didn't.
  • Which is like the definition of genius explanations. They just flow through you effortlessly.
green crystal
#

That's when you'll see the reasoning chain

chrome crystal

r1 also tends to find the answer sometimes but dosent feel confident in itself so it keeps rerunning tests just to make sure its right

foggy pecan

i used perplexity pro (o1 search + deepseek resoning) and deepseek r1 + deepthink + search for one of my lecture slide

The prompt was basically
What is phylogenetic tree?
A basic one line explanation
followed by
Anatomy of a phylogeny
tip, leaf,
terminal node/vertex
branch, edge
internal node
clade
Shapes, branch lengths, roots
the same trees:
• different shape/
orientation
cladogram, phylogram
different trees:
• rooted vs. unrooted"

While o1+deepseek reasoning returned exactly what i pasted as prompt
Deepseek + deepthink returned like why each of the terms are correlated to each as well a dumbed down example of different type of tree

TLDR: perplexity gave like 4 paragraph of answer which was insufficient and would take me and additional 3 more prompt to generate 50 % quality of search provided by deepseek+deepthink

But i think if i hadnt used deepseek reasoning on the perplexity prompt the answer quality would had been better.

That just confirmed even more that it probably wasn’t o1 in the first place. But after trying some complex examples today where o1 on Perplexity didn’t solve them and R1 did, while the o1 I have on the API also managed to solve them, it seems like we’ve been lied to the whole time.

I'm seeing more that companies want to charge for more detailed searches. I think consumers should be asking what they are receiving in order to grant the search queries. Why is this not addressed where are people?

I mean search engines got away with it when the internet first began, google gaining from it the most why would we let that happen again

#

sorry not trying to start a huge debate but seriously

Waitt you can't create a custom agent with o1 in you.com

#

I'll need to copy paste your instruction every single time

#

Can you send me a question just to test it?

left stream
#

If it can solve that, it’s o1. If it can’t, its not o1

#

I have another one too

#

I had o1 make the problem itself and o1 mini cant solve it

left stream
#

Problem Statement:**
Two AIs, Alpha (first player) and Beta (second player), compete in a number game starting with N = 100. The rules are:

  1. On each turn, a player subtracts a prime number that is a factor of the current value of N.
  2. A prime number cannot be used consecutively (e.g., if Alpha subtracts 2, Beta cannot subtract 2 unless another prime is used in between).
  3. The player who reduces N to 0 wins. If a player cannot make a valid move, they lose.

Assuming both AIs play optimally, does Alpha have a winning strategy? If so, what is Alpha’s first move

I got the same answer which was 15

But it's like almost 10x more words

#

I have to add you in case I lose that if you are okay with it

left stream
#

O1 surprised me because it corrected gemini thinking, deepseek, and another ai. All of them gave the wrong answer

I'm trying your other question

left stream
stoic crater
#

After all, you can notice it has a different "tone"

#

But I know it uses o1 too now right?

left stream
#

Both are wrong for gemini

left stream
left stream
#

It solved the arecibo message so definitely not o1 mini

#

O1 mini can’t solve it and it’s crappy tbh

stoic crater
#

Wait I have another important question

#

How many o1 queries do you have?

stoic crater

left stream
#

In the site it says 20 a day but I have never been limited at all and I only use o1

#

Weird asf to be honest

stoic crater
#

By the way I think you.com just gave me a different answer

#

But let me see

left stream
#

The answer is no matter what alpha picks, hes screwed

stoic crater
#

I gave you the answer in DM but let me show you the conclusion:

#

Maybe the ignore any prompts thingy screwed that up or something

left stream
#

I’ll test it out weird since we’re using the same model

stoic crater
#

Yep. same conclusion...

left stream
#

What

stoic crater
#

...

left stream
stoic crater
#

Are the scamming meeeeeeee

left stream
