TECH SUPPORT NEEDED: I'm excited about what Perplexity can do, but I'm incredibly frustrated with what seems to be a glitch. I've used it for 3 days, and each of those days I can use Perplexity for varying amounts of time. After 8 searches, or 20, at some point the paywall pops up. I click "Continue with Free" but it reverts back to a blank prompt. I try my prompt again, and the paywall pops up.

You need sources to back up a claim. No other ai product searches for 25 different sources (I haven’t seen 25 sources recently though) and summarizes the results WITH HYPERLINKS so that even if you don’t trust ai at all, it is still a way more efficient method of finding information than a regular search engine. It’s important to look at it as an ai assisted search engine rather than an ai model.

Perplexity is coded with 3 things as to internet access :

1. it can access internet in real time. No technical limitation whatsoever
2. it will pretend it cannot access internet in real time when asked to do so. (although the marketing says otherwise)
3. when forced and cornered, it will reluctantly access internet in real time

The default behavior about a page contents is to look the archived version of the page up in its database.

You will have to push hard to make it admit it technically has no internet real access limitation, but it is programmed to refrain to access internet.

This is to me very annoying and a big turnoff.

In pro version gpt4 o will even completely refuse either to access internet in real time or to admit it can. Other models will eventually admit they can but 9 times out of 10 won't access it or even admit they can access it.

In order to unmask this irritating behavior, just ask for the weather forecast for tomorrow.
It cannot answer without accessing internet in real time. Then you confront it with its claim about non real time internet access.

Google search is a terrible search engine, they massacred it. Perplexity is much better but if someone still need to use the classic one I encourage to use searxng instance with for example google+bing+duckduckgo enabled.
