Anyone using it? No limits in a pro plan and great UI, which is very clear, it’s easy to generate images or delete or add files. Something what Perplexity’s UI lacks. Now I’ve used it only for free but I’m thinking about a subscription. Sonar models are also available: https://labs.writingmate.ai

#

As for search I found free felo.ai which I find also good. Perplexity is not implementing necessary changes and am looking for an alternative

torn sierra
# olive nova what's missing in perplexity

You cannot generate images in an easy way, when you add files these files stick to the sources and the model refers to those files. When you add another file it gets confused. To delete files you have to edit sources of a previous response and then you have that response rewritten. You cannot stop search at any time you want. You cannot choose a model at any time you want. In the service I mentioned earlier you have all those features and the UI stays clear.

hi guys. i just joined pro. anyone have an idea what the best model is for highly accurate and fast "fact checking" of other AI responses? im looking for something that can accurately cite reputable sources that support or contradict target sentences in a response from google gemini. so far im settled with claude 3.5 sonnet, but just wondering if there's anything else to go with. any other tips would be very helpful.

So as I wrote above. If you choose Sonnet you get a response from Sonnet but the search is provided but something external. LLM only gets the results from the search engine. PPLX search engine should look for particular data and the results will be provided to LLM which in turn elaborate on them and gives you the answer. If this is something complex try using pro. Sonnet is the best in general I guess, when it comes to provided an elaborated response

rare bridge
#

i just need it to cite decent sources and comprehend the pages to the point that it could even reliably quote parts of the page that supports or contradicts my query

#

this could also involve rewording my query to find more relevant sources. my assumption was that the model chosen is directly responsible for what the PPLX searches exactly

#

but i actually dont know if thats how it works

sleek vortex
rare bridge
sleek vortex
#

then it feeds the output (or maybe rag chunks of that output) into the final LLM

#

you notice that if you click "rewrite", the pro search steps happen instantly, since it doesnt actually do those again

rare bridge
#

okay cool, interesting

sleek vortex
#

but this hasnt changed much at all since like...a year so

would your opinion be that sonnet 3.5 is for sure best for fact checking the search results in relation to my query + citing sources?

It's quite intriguing, isn't it? OpenAI has successfully developed a ChatGPT app that mirrors the full functionality of their website and it's visually impressive as well. Microsoft has achieved a similar feat with Copilot. This raises the question: what's the situation with Perplexity? Why do they seem to be behind in terms of app development? Users can't delete uploaded files and image generation isn't available at all (although I understand that's not Perplexity's primary function). On the bright side it's fortunate that I’m using iOS because the situation with the Android version seems to be much more problematic😛

I only selected article text, copy, paste to pplx (it got turned into the paste.txt) and used a prompt analyze and verify biggest claims from this blog post, always add sources (there might be better ways, I didn't iterate on it really; since rag will most likely be used, it may not be reliable what it decides to check).
if sonnet refuses, you could try (probably best is to edit the initial query, not discussing it further) convince it that it is fair use (which I believe it is), or just use "rewrite" without changes (it might be a bit random, the refusals) or, well, lie - say it is your article and you want to fact check it

sleek vortex
# fringe mango Now that ChatGPT mini 4.0, has the Perplexity search been adapted, or is it stil...

my theory:

perplexity Free will use whatever’s available, likely from a mix of these models:

  • own hosted llama/“sonar” fine tune on their gpus (free capacity from labs)
  • haiku (likely the main one as they probably pay for a ton of haiku capacity)
  • 4o-mini (maybe? think i saw some users have it not sure)
  • they did some AB testing of 3.5 sonnet for some users too

also it may depend on region, for example they may have more capacity in a separate AWS region for say haiku in japan to lower latency there

main thing to note is that for main models like haiku they likely pay for compute units (on aws bedrock and azure openai service, maybe also gcloud but i doubt) instead of just api prices

that also means it’s cheaper for them if they have users in multiple time zones since they pay per month and not per token

my evidence for this is a bunch of RE on perplexity, inferring things, the fact that perplexity sometimes goes down for “capacity” issues, the fact that they partnered with azure or something and lots more things…

but it hasn’t been based on gpt3.5 in ages

In your thread on Perplexity, use the copy icon below the message (do not choose the share icon above, as it will only share the link), then select the sharing option and choose your printing app. You should see your printer's app. In case your printer doesn't have an app icon in the sharing options, choose an app you usually use to print with your iPhone and print from there.

# cinder comet when you give it complicated stuff it gets it right

Because large language models are essentially still probabilistic "word association" at their core, LLMs don't operate based on logical reasoning. An LLM can tell you that 2+2=4 because that's what everyone says in its training data, but it doesn't know why it's 2+2=4 and not 2+2=5. The question of comparing the sizes of "9.9 and 9.11" is not the first, nor will it be the last, and once your question involves a blind spot in its training material, it won't know the answer. And more dangerously, when it doesn't know, it won't tell you that it doesn't know, but will instead answer seriously with nonsense, giving the appearance of being "seemingly quite reasonable."

torn sierra
# subtle ridge hmm Im curious about my file

Generally, there's an issue with files. First and foremost they can't be easily deleted - they constantly remain in the sources! 😡 The sources can only be edited after the model provides a response. I hope that not only will a new focus be implemented but the entire file management system will finally be properly overhauled. Introducing seemingly simple changes takes ages or isn't implemented at all

"I’d say Perplexity is a bit better, adding those extra questions with built-in responses. Leading off with graphics: I’m a text person, so that doesn’t do much for me, but I know that style should appeal to more people.

Perhaps we shouldn’t say “wow, OpenAI is doing this new thing now” but either “Perplexity got there first” or “we’re seeing an emergent generative AI search style appearing across several platforms.”

glacial anvil
# valid iris When I make perplexity.ai a bookmark on my Home Screen, it opens this thing that...

Let me Perplexity for you😉 :

The issue you're experiencing is likely related to how iOS handles web app bookmarks added to the home screen. When you add a website as a bookmark to your home screen, iOS creates a web app that opens in a standalone mode, which can appear different from a regular Safari page or the official app. To address this, you have a few options:

1. Use the Official Perplexity AI App

Download and install the official Perplexity AI app from the App Store. This will provide the best user experience and full functionality.

2. Add a Shortcut to Safari

Instead of adding the website directly to your home screen, create a shortcut that opens Perplexity.ai in Safari:

  • Open the Shortcuts app on your iPhone.
  • Create a new shortcut.
  • Add the "Open URLs" action.
  • Enter "https://www.perplexity.ai" as the URL.
  • Name the shortcut "Perplexity AI."
  • Add the shortcut to your home screen.

This method will open Perplexity.ai in Safari, giving you the full browser experience.

3. Use a Third-Party App Like xSearch

Some users have reported success using xSearch, a third-party app that allows you to set custom search engines in Safari. With xSearch, you can:

  • Download xSearch from the App Store.
  • Set up Perplexity as a search engine using the URL: https://www.perplexity.ai/search?q=%s.
  • In xSearch settings, override the Safari engine with Perplexity.

This method allows you to use Perplexity directly from Safari's search bar and Spotlight.

4. Adjust Your Expectations

If you prefer to keep the current web app bookmark, understand that it's designed to provide a more app-like experience when launched from the home screen. This is a feature of iOS for web apps, not a bug.

If you continue to experience issues or prefer a different solution, you can contact Perplexity's support team for more specific assistance.

Do you think that the future of information retrieval using language models will be based on something like source weights,
I mean, for example, information from a reputable newspaper will have 10pts and a random post from a forum will have, for example, 1pt.
is there any interesting paper on this topic?
Will it be possible to "entrust" this evaluation to the model (models probably in future can judge veracity/quality of the source)
But will it have to be supervised by the administrator of such a tool at the end 🤔

stoic wave
pale compass

@vital bough Perplexity 4o seems comparable to Turbo, likely because it introduces new content with every query via the search function. Speaking purely to the capability of the model, I often see 4o repeating itself in follow-up questions on ChatGPT. For example, if I ask it to summarize a page, it does so effectively. However, when I follow up with a specific question, it tends to repeat the entire summary almost verbatim before adding the answer at the end. Turbo doesn’t have this problem, and will give a better answer without needlessly repeating the same information. Still, for one-shot prompts, 4o performs just as well as Turbo, from what I’ve observed.

stoic wave
#

In my experience, GPT-4 Turbo is better than 4o

pale compass
#

@stoic wave Overall I prefer Turbo too. 4o was obviously meant to be a lateral move capability wise (aside from the vision capabilities which are better than Turbo) with improved (reduced) compute requirements on OpenAI's end. The capability of the model definitely suffered a bit, but not too badly. The same could be said of Turbo vs. GTP-4 release version.

why you asking ai that type of stuff, if ai is trained on conversations and doesnt think for itsel yet. Unless you train an ai to do pentesting and to get the backend of websites and based on that to a summary of information or a coversational agent for that just specific website would be better

of course, but it takes more than 1 to increase their learning rate.
Think like instead of 1 ai 3 ais as core brain. Where they talk to each other to respond to our request, like cascate thinking if its not right will go back to first until the answer is well evaluated by all the ais, this will increase their learning exponentially.
With right tools and apis you can make them create other ais to aid their request, creating ai with 1 main function, and always having the knowledge of the core brain and giving more knowledge to it at same time. So the goal is to the core brain to be able to communicate directly with new ai agents to perform certain tasks, if that ai agent doesnt exist yet they will create it.

sorry, keep it up
Sometimes i dont understand why humans act in certain ways, its very difficult to understand their mentalitty and why they do some type of stuff, why they choose certain paths.
It is all very confusing.
And talking to me will make it worst as we have different perspectives of life and how it works,
As we all do and should have, conversations can have a deep impact on our life and the course of it, so i will restrain myself from talking about this type of stuff, and will let you proceed with your life normally.
Wish you good luck

be careful with insanity and other emotions, as these will come and go but your mind will always be there, train it to reach other levels. So no emotion will affect your path and stop you from wanting to reach where you want.

I have to say I'm very happy with everything this offers. My question is, I'm not the smartest... Which AI model is the best for live information updates, etc.? Should I keep it on Default, or Llama 3.1, or Sonar large? I am kind of a newbie, so a good answer would be great. Thanks.

After entering the new description it didnt ask me these further questions. Is that a new feature or is it a bug?

#

the fallout is that the site function become ||temporarily (sounds familar? KEKW )|| useless

Previously, Perplexity had a feature where a user could prompt a specific URL within the answer engine to summarize it. It was a very infrequent application but was designed to give users a way to summarize a large volume of text without using our file upload feature.

When a user prompted a specific URL, the user deployed our AI agent to scrape the URL on the user’s behalf, even if that web page had a robots.txt file in place. It was effectively the same as if the user went to a page themselves, copied the text of the article, and then pasted it into the system. The process had to be initiated by a user, URL by URL. We found that some users were abusing this feature in ways that violate our terms of service, so we have temporarily disabled this feature to not scrape a URL if it’s not in our search index, even if a user prompts the URL.

Hello guys, I just sihgned up for Perplexity.. on the Plan page that I read before sign up the Pro limit was stated as 600/day. Now I see on my plan I just have 300/day

What happened?

Some people misbehave and we all suffer.
