I mainly use AI to dig up bits and pieces of information that satisfy varied interests in culture and history. I also write for my enjoyment and AI makes the processmuch more rewarding.

I'm testing Perplexity since deutsche Telekom offerd a free year of testing to me. That's a good thing, because although I am trying to write a blog about a particular piece of software. But even with writing and investigating in some topics around that software I am not quite sure if I am willing to invest 200 Euro for a second year, right now. Not because I dislike Perplexity, in fact I love this tool, but because I am not able to use it as often as it would be worth to spent another 200 bucks right now.

Hello, I'm pretty new to Perplexity and recently decided to give the pro plan a go as I'm disappointed by how OpenAI recently dumbed down their models. I'm hoping that the US-hosted R1 model will allow me to continue some use cases that were ruined in OpenAI's reasoning models by the downgrade. However, I am a little concerned that the quantisation of Perplexity's R1 model may make it also unsuitable for my needs, so in that case this'll probably be my only month on the plan.
Complex specific use cases aside, I also really like the thoroughness of Perplexity's research capabilities and look forward to soon exploring other features.

Got a Perplexity Pro account through AG1. Wasn’t sure how to really use it, but then tried a couple things. Husband was struggling trying to set up a hardware/software music system that required reading of complex manuals to figure out how to properly set things up. I explained what I was trying to do in Perplexity with the R1 model, and it checked everything for me! Even suggested pro tips and things to check. Hubs who was meh on AI even asks me to look things up for him.

Hey, when I use the R1 model for general reasoning and start a new thread, I can add messages, but if I switch threads, it doesn’t let me change to a different AI model—I have to stick with R1. The same issue happens if I use “Throw” and then want to switch to R1; it doesn’t allow me to do it within the same thread. Is it possible to change the model within the same thread?
