Okay, @pallid estuary - when you give it a try, go ahead and respond in here. hopefully we'll be able to figure out what is going on.

pallid estuary
#

Game is overall just a lot "slower" ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

oak nova
#

were you able to load the new game up and see?

pallid estuary
#

yeah but it sure took a while for things to actually get started and then I was still having the same issues

#

these weren't present before, except the audio display

Finding & Sending your Logs

Finding your logs:
For better and faster troubleshooting, please share game logs along with your message.

Open File Explorer

  • Navigate to your Steam folder, by default it should be in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam.
  • Find the following file: [...]\Steam\steamapps\common\Enshrouded\enshrouded.log

โš ๏ธ If you do not have "show known file extensions" in Windows Explorer active, the relevant file will appear only as "enshrouded", with no extension and file type "Text Document".

Copy and Paste the log file into Discord

  • Head over to #troubleshooting and paste the log file into the channel.
(Troubleshooting in Discord is conducted by community volunteers. Please treat them with respect, and appreciation.)

I will get to that after the patch and after yet another set of shader precaching

#

takes about 2 hjours to actually start playing the game now, crazy

pallid estuary
#

I'm still working on this by the way Just.

okay give me a moment to look through it

#

okay the first thing I notice is that you are using a lot of RAM and swap before the game starts. I would suggest closing programs that could be eating up your ram and causing a bottleneck. things like lots of browser tabs eat a lot. also some background programs could be interfering with the game.

Still looking through though.

#

Your settings should be fine for your GPU, so that's good.

#

Okay, yeah - something is getting overloaded. there are a lot of "message storage full" - so you may have a bottleneck.

#

I would suggest closing any non-essential software, including background software, and trying to load up the game to see if that helps. Also I would suggest turning off any overlays like Steam, Nvidia and Discord.

pallid estuary
#

I don't have any overlays on that I know of tho, and only Discord and steam open

oak nova
#

something is eating a lot of ram before you start. I would check task manager and the startup apps on there to see if anything is running in the background, then reboot your system

pallid estuary
#

Discord memory gluttony
and steal client webhelper not heloing
My ram is a bit on the low side I guess but it's annoying that continuing to play a game I already bought is what's forcing me to upgrade ๐Ÿ˜ญ
Thanks for helping me get to the bottom of it though

pallid estuary
#

After monitoring my ram usage since this thing it's actually enshrouded using it all

#

It uses more mrmory than any other game I play

#

sometimes as much at 5k+

pallid estuary
#

Ram

oak nova
#

5 gigs isn't all that much for a game

pallid estuary
#

5+

oak nova
#

Depending on the game they can use from 1-15+gb of ram

#

And your save size in this game impacts how much ram will be used.

pallid estuary
#

you said something was using a lot before the game started and I inspected discord using 1,500MB ish and that was the highest. I went and checked every game I play and most of them are under 5GB and Enshrouded can get even more than that

#

So either my ram isn't the problem or the game is memory leaking

oak nova
#

The ram that shows up at the top of the log is before the game is launched

pallid estuary
#

at this point I don't think it can be fixed, I just need my concerns passed onto the relevant channels so it can be addressed

#

The 2+ hours of shader caching is unreasonable at the very least

oak nova
#

You are the only person I have heard of with it that high, especially in menus. The longest I have heard of is maybe 20-30 minutes and that's on older systems with low end GPUs.

pallid estuary
#

there's a steam review claiming it took 30 minutes to get a third of the way

oak nova
#

hence why I addressed it as an issue.

#

If it was normal, I would have said so.

pallid estuary
#

I hate being one of the lucky few having problems ๐Ÿ˜ญ

oak nova
#

lol. well there are a lot of people having issues, just not yours. ๐Ÿ’œ

#

one sec let me look at your log...

pallid estuary
#

yeah but it's just upsetting that it was managable pre update, I can't even play this rn with how bad it can get even with Discord and basically everything else closed

oak nova
#

Shader compiling speed is mainly determined by CPU

pallid estuary
#

it's baffling that Cyberpunk ran better it's hard not to feel like optimization is the problem in this case

oak nova
#

Ah yeah, yours is a bit on the older side. That could explain why it's taking long, but not 2 hours, unless your CPU is getting bombarded.

pallid estuary
#

๐Ÿ˜”

oak nova
#

still 2 hours is a bit much. Are you still getting it every time you load?

pallid estuary
#

nah just after a patch or sometimes

oak nova
#

oh. well that's not horrid then. It sucks the week after an update, but after that it should be fine.

What about your performance, has it gotten better?

pallid estuary
#

worse as I played, it seems like the new shroud areas around the wastes and highlands hitch really bad, the enemy projectiles from the sickle ghosts and jellyfish take a second to load but that might be connected to the delay in effects appearing overall. Enemies freshly spawned out of nests are invisible for a second as well

oak nova
#

well since you are running a decent CPU and a lower end GPU, your best bet is to turn down enemy spawn amount in the difficulty settings and lower settings like Distanct Objects, Volumetric Shadows, Fog Quality, Small Foliage, Point Light Shadows and maybe indirect lighting.

You can leave your Texture Quality up and the other ones, as they aren't CPU heavy. It may help with the performance.

pallid estuary
#

i'll give it a shot and report back in a day or two of playing. I appreciate your time

oak nova
#

But right now your GPU is peddling a 10-speed and the CPU is keeping it in a high gear, so it's kinda just spinning it's peddals without much progress... if that makes sense?

pallid estuary
#

I getcha

oak nova
#

Let me know how it goes. ๐Ÿคž ๐Ÿ’œ

pallid estuary
#

Alright I've had everyrthing lowered as per suggestion and the game runs almost exactly as poorly except it looks way worse and things like trees and stuff actually pop in right in front of me
