I've had a wooting for a few years now, great keyboard! Though I will say the hall effect switches aren't as useful as I thought they'd be, mostly because most games don't support them. It usually just ends up confusing games into thinking you're using an xbox controller when you're not and the keybinds get all funky lol

Yeah they have easy keybinds to switch between modes (can also switch between colors and stuff at the same time), so I usually have the hall effect mode turned off while I'm just using it normally for typing and stuff

I was just gonna get a very quiet board (hubby gave me a budget since he promised me one for xmas), since I play while hub is sleeping sometimes. Then I saw all the actuation issues the be quiet! Dark Mount seems to have (I need tenkeyless cause small desk space and I move big with my mouse). So then I started looking into boards like Corsair K70 with Cherry Silent Red linears. Then I started doing sound comparisons between keyboards and realized I had both a bigger budget than that and maybe wanted a board that was newer than a decade ago...things snowballed. 😊

Depends on the genre tbh, and even in games that have a lot of keybinds, you can bind function keys to these keyboards (you can hold down a key, and essentially get a second keyboard with whatever keybinds you want)
The actuation thing refers to hall effect switches. Rather than being like traditional switches where the key is "pressed" after reaching a certain point, hall effect switches use fancy tech wizardy to detect exactly how far a key is pressed down. So for example, if you press a key 50%, it can tell that it's only 50% pressed. You can use this to have more precise movements, like only turning the wheel half-way in a racing game for example. You can also use this to set exactly where you want the key to be pressed, for faster reaction times and stuff.

If u play Returnal or the new sequel coming out they do exactly that, if u hold L2 it stiffens at the 50% pressed mark and that is ur standard fire but if u full press it u activate ur special fire mode

Trackmania is probably one of the best games for the keyboard tbh, the benefits are most obvious in that game

Anything with Cherry Red Silent switches will be pretty dang quiet; this uses Lekker 60 V2 linear switches. If you see the video you'll notice they're also pressure-sensitive. 😼

Wooting 80HE (as in hall-effect switches). $200 but man...if this thing lasts a few years I'll consider it a bargain. I used to RP a lot, like 10-15K words a day a lot, and end up exposing the weaknesses of keyboards pretty fast. I had the Logitech G-Pro (twice, first one failed after warranty lapsed) and the Logitech Atlas before that, but as I get older, the softer buttery actuation of linears appeals to me more. Now that I can have pressure sensitivity, I don't think I'll ever look back lol.

The crt screen flashes when you pull the trigger, the sensor on the gun picks up the brighter flashes on the ducks, counting them as hits. You can cheat in duck hunt by aiming the censor at a light bulb and shooting, it'll count them as hits

Since it's spring time and people are struggling with allergies, I had an amusing thought for a D&D character quirk: You know how it's a common trope for plant creatures to charm you with pollen?
A character who is immune to pollen-related effects because they've got terrible allergies, and instead of whatever the effect was supposed to be, they suffer a penalty to perception for <duration> because of the swelling and sneezing.

I remember reading something a long time ago talking about things like throwing things and why they do so much flourishing. Apparently, there's a force power that gives the force-wielder a minor precognition allowing them to block or dodge so effectively. These things act as distractions to overwhelm that force power.

Not just the recent nerfs. Performance, even with their disappointing draw distance has always been a problem. NPC and enemy AI has been rough. I've tabled the game for awhile to see how it sorts out.

I'm hoping so as well. I'm a bit leery, because the more time passes and the more piles on top the harder optimization becomes. There's a principle about premature optimization in software development that some developers use as an excuse to procrastinate - it doesn't mean wait until the end. I could be wrong and perhaps they have a plan.

my old one was barely above the min requirements and did okay enough for me to enjoy the game but veilwater was near impossible for me to play.

I hear you. I have a 4090, but still have concerns. For any given game I just turn everything on ultimate except the settings I don't like, cough motion blur, and I usually turn down shadows a tick or two depending on how they look in game. Maybe I'll turn-on and tweak framegen options if they did it well. This is the only game since I got the 4090 where I've had to tweak with the settings to get good FPS consistently.

I currently only have Small Foilage turned down to the lowest before off, and I wish I could go a bit lower, it's just a bit much, but other than that everything else is at max.
I am considdering turning down that first shadow setting though, just to take it easy on my PC.

my brain is just too adhd or whatever to, ya know, stop and smell the roses. visuals have never been a major concern for me. I dont want to play an ugly game, and certain art styles push me away from some games, I do care about aesthetics to some extent, love me some cartoony stuff, cel shaded stuff, etc, but at the end of the day i dont care how pretty a game is or pixel count or etc.
like who cares how pretty the new battlefront games looked, caring about that when you should be focused on the main battle is so dumb. and worst of all we had far less content than even the PSP battlefront games. and THAT is what people should care about.
That said, man, it is hard to go back to the OG BF2, XD man it looks bad! XD

A good game will immerse you regardless of the visuals. I love realistic visuals and high-fidelity. It's not only more immersive, it makes me want to explore and not just clear the question mark on the map. Most people I know are more like you on that topic. We all want smooth gameplay though.
I wonder if the nostalgia is all but over for remembering back to the graphics of old games that we thought looked at the time and realizing they didn't age well. There are games from around 2014 that look better than stuff coming out today.

A good, recent example is Minecraft vs. Hytale. I picked up Hytale like a month or so ago to try it out. Speaking just to the graphics, it maintains the spirit and feel of the blocky-genre and just looks so good and polished that I don't even think about it being blocks.
