I’m soloing level 13 mob packs as level 5, hope they tune mobs

It feels kind of easy

Interestingly, I think the combat is in a good spot. As a souls veteran, it feels pretty easy to me, but there are also a lot of people saying it's too hard. Obviously there's balancing to be had on specific weapons/enemies but I think they're at a pretty good middle ground of "have to pay attention but if you are then you'll do pretty well." If they keep improving mob AI and maybe make them a little better at throwing grenades or whatnot at you if they can't get to you, then I think it'll be good.

If they made it hard enough to really challenge people who have been playing souls-level difficult games for the last 10 years, they'll alienate a lot of other players and I think those other players are who they're more gearing the game towards. It's a much more cozy survival game than some of the hardcore challenge mechanics that some of us enjoy, but we can still have fun with the building and exploration and stuff

That’s true. If you get caught off guard you can get got pretty fast, but feels weird to just fireball 3 mobs 2 times and watch them die haha. Some tuning is probably on the to-do list in the future

hey peeps i'm using inverted stepped wall to create some designs on walls and after i've build all walls this exact same way at the very end on the last wall i bumped into this problem. Do you see the difference between left wall and right wall? The inverted stepped wall is not so stepped on the right. Does anyone know why?

It's due to the way the game turns voxels into geometry. There are some variations and my theory is that it depends on the world position of the voxels. It is nice sometimes because it can increase visual quality, but it can also cause annoying issues like this. You did nothing wrong.

Ah yeah I can rant about that for way too long, so I'm probably not gonna lol. I used to run my own mental health/gaming group and met a lot of teenagers going through some pretty serious stuff, and one of the most common things I saw was just how much their world view was skewed because of what adults told them about school. Those kids genuinely believed their life was ruined because they weren't getting good grades or didn't know what job they wanted to do for the rest of the life.

It's weird and sad because it's just not true. Like yeah school helps, and picking a career early helps, but you'll be fine if you don't figure those things out right away. I dropped out of highschool and I'm more successful than most of my peers. Did it create challenges? Yeah. But it didn't ruin my life.

It's weird how much adults try to force kids into a lifestyle instead of just letting them take their time and figure out what they want to do.

Generally speaking if you keep doing what you're passionate about eventually you'll fall into something. Biggest mistake I see is that people start backwards, they think they need to land a job in order to "get started". Was also the mistake I made, and I gave up for several years thinking that working in the game's industry was impossible when I just could never get my foot in the door.

But after several years I couldn't stay away, and I just started doing volunteer moderator work and running my own communities, and eventually it just fell into my lap. A studio I worked for expanded quickly and reached out to me with a full time CM offer, which is how most CMs I know get into the space.

Not saying everyone will get that lucky, but in passion driven fields it's the way to go. Just do what makes you passionate and eventually you'll discover a way in, or at least build up enough experience for people to notice you.

Easier said than done obviously, because in the meantime you still need money. But it's the way to go

Biggest mistake I see with solo game devs is that they want their first game to be complete or make money. No matter how passionate you are or how inherently good at game dev you think you are it's just not gonna happen, you need more experience. Better to just mess around and make things for fun until you feel really confident in your abilities, THEN you can attempt to make something for real.

i 100% agree being very attuned to the music industry as i took some great advice from various people you always need to listen to a little bit of everything to learn teh schemes the rhymes the words the flows and process everything but you can't just then take all this information and just drop a hit track it wont happen most artists spend upwards of 10 years to hit any level of fame dedication is all that can save you

sometimes you just have to be okay with the fact your only fan is yourself and as long as you continue to believe in yourself you will reach the heights you shoot for

Yep. Failing is often important too. I was in 5 or 6 failed bands before I finally got with one that was good enough just to play bars on the weekends

One of the most valuable things I learned early on with music, an older guy at the music shop I went to and I were jamming and he told me "if you aren't recording yourself, you're not really playing". Didn't make sense at the time but I did it any way and yeah, not only do you find ideas you never knew you had, the recording won't lie about what you need to work on xD

It's a good outlet for it. Being happy isn't the absence of those feelings, it's being able to reconcile them so they aren't the most dominant. Knowing what and why they are so when you want to you can put them down and focus on other things. Havving an outlet is a great step towards that

Like, I can be angry and punch a wall, or I can be angry and scream into a mike or smash on some guitar strings for 30 minutes. One is more productive xD

writing was a huge outlet in the back half of school writing and listening to music still have alot of those writings saved some of my best writings honestly while i never got good grades on any of my papers in school because the topic "Was not appropriate for school" or whatever

Yeah, school systems suck with that. The idea is they're trying to 'broaden your horizons' but they do it in a way that doesn't take into account where you're at and what you need to work on more. Here's one thing: Why the heck don't they teach financial education in school? You spend your school career learning how to write and do algebra etc and that's all well and good, but nobody sits you down and teaches you one of the most important things in life: How to handle money, how to balance a budget, how to pay rent. It's just assumed you should pick those things up. How to apply for a job, how to develop a skill or a craft, it's just like "OK, You can talk about Hamlet and find the value for X, go get em sport"

another amazing story from him was he knew a guy who was trying to sell beats and get that off the ground and he became really good friends with him and he would go to his friends big parties just to go sit in his friend room listening to all his latest beats and write tracks to them that never give up grind is such a crazy thing

The big takeaway is everything is just putting in the work and doing it. Nobody ever got anywhere by just wishing they were there, it's waking up every day and bullying yourself when you're tired and want to go back to bed or watch YT for another 20 mins, and saying "no, I'm doing this now"

Tom MacDonald blows my mind because he and nova his girlfriend were not only on the brink of breaking up but he was also on the brink of throwing away his entire music journey he lost all hope in it when 1 day sitting on his porch with no electricity in his house no running water just had a crazy track pop into his head he wrote the entire track in like 10 minutes immediately went recorded it told nova about it they ran an extension cord from there neighbors house to film a video and it became his massive breakout track he desperately needed

he actually borrowed a couple grand from family members because he was so confident in this track he had

My main issue is what they're pitching is basically fantasy Eve Online. Guilds can control towns and thus control the economy of those towns, so for the first hour it will play as intended, then some megaguild of Asmongold streamers will flood in and take over everything, then you're either part of the guild or you're toiling away

so you needed community to survive, you needed to make guilds to defend yourself. this game looks like a cake walk in carebearland.

That's the part they can't figure out. There's a bigger market in MMOs for PVE and content, so every time someone sets out to make a hardcore PVP MMO, there's a massive pushback and they end up having to water down the PVP to make the PVE crowds happy. Look at what happened to New World

What UO did right is they made the PVP open but they made it so it was only really valuable to do it to higher level players. Sure you could gank newbies, but they wouldn't drop anything good and eventually they'll form a mob and steamroll you

And they made PVP zones spread out enough that both types of players could get to a resonable level

This is my philosophy not with just our game but any game, evaluate any game you buy based on what it currently is. Doesn't really matter what the title or whatever is, just ask yourself if the game as it currently stands is worth your price for the content, polish, etc. that it has.

I buy lots of early access games, but if I don't like them I just refund it and wait for more updates. I think this is the main reason a lot of people are bitter about games labeled early access, they set their expectations way too high for "future content" and then are inevitably disappointed. If you don't like a game as it currently is, there's no harm in waiting/getting a refund.

All that out of the way, it kinda depends on what parts of Enshrouded you are most attracted to. We are kind of a blend of many genres, a lot of people compare us to RPGs/ARPGs, survival games, and creative games (our building system is very popular).

Depending on which category you're most attracted to I'd have some recommendations, but I can't think of many games that combine all three.

This is also my response. I've got a good 60 hours in and I haven't even nearly exhausted all the exploration content, much less the capability to make awesome builds and stuff. That's well worth it for a full released game, and if it's only supposed to be ~1/3 of the full map? Oh geez.

Yeah, the only reason people are complaining about the game being short is they all followed the same YT guide to cheese end game gear at level 2 and now they have nothing to chase. You can spot them because they're all wearing the same pale blue armor and the helmet with the 6 eye holes

Yeah my group (3 of us) are specifically not looking stuff up. It’s been a blast man, miss playing games this way. I’ve been on WoW classic for a few years now and it’s all about hyper optimization - this has been such a nice reset from that.

Well, that's the thing, people think because they sold that they get it right away. Steam can hold that money anywhere between 90 days and 6 months depending. It's never good to hit too big too soon because you can go bankrupt taking loans to cover things like these

Sure but for a sustainable business that can also be a slippery slope, and even in these modern internet-savvy times most financial institutions are very backwards in terms of backing things like these. Even with the insane 19 million in sales until they have actual assets it's hard to get a bank to get behind you, especially when you're showing up for a $500k loan one week and need another one the following Monday

Just look at how many banks got fleeced during the Silicon Valley boom days

You're essentially asking them to buy a lottery ticket, from their perspective

Now, in 3 months they'll be sitting just fine, but this period is especially tenuous for them because they're an unknown with little backing, not much in assets, and only virality to support them

Yeah, like I said that area is way outside of my expertise, but if they know how many copies they've curently sold, they'll have an idea how much money that will bring in, so they should be able to estimate a reasonable loan size to keep them in the green until steam pays them out...

I know it's more complex than my brain makes it to be, but because the money is already there it feels like an easier sell. Obviously you wouldn't go for a loan to just cover this month's server expenses, you'd get a timeline from steam on their payment delivery date and use that to determine roughly how long you'd need to expense for to get the loan, plus a couple months for unforeseen consequences. The cost of that should still be minimal compared to their sales numbers.

Well, the big issue is time. You can't afford to wait around and let your server stability suffer, which is exactly what they did. I mean you could, but you'd see your concurrent users drop and the head of steam you grabbed wane off. Or at least that's the approach they're taking, there are several ways you could go about it

And I'm also only speaking as a layperson, just one who closely follows gaming news and such

But again, for a relatively unknown dev studio to suddenly incur almost $500k just in server hardware costs is pretty significant, I can't imagine most banks opening up the velvet rope a whole lot more than that until they have some actual capital and collateral, which is the issue they're swiftly running into. You're effectively taking a loan against money you "should" be getting, and even though it's Valve we're talking about, digital enterprises are some of the highest risk businesses around and they're still technically under the small business umbrella, so there are some pretty stark limits to your available resources

I've never been in their position but at one point I was a part owner in a small business, and banks aren't afraid to tell you to take a hike until you show some actual cash-in-hand liquid profits at a point

Hey @brittle turret think there could be a pin or some other mention for users that have their POIs like discovered towers disappear from the map since the patch? I've seen a couple so far since, seems verifying files in steam resolves the issue. I mentioned it to the mod team but maybe there could be something to point to? Unless you guys haven't seen that much feedback on it. If so might be a thing to keep handy for future patches

Hello, sorry if this is in the wrong area, but has anyone got a work around for the games terrain resetting periodically and on restart? I was gonna just use the alters but I don't want to build in these areas, just hardcore finite resource mode it.

You might want to ask such questions next time in #enshrouded-chat #getting-started. But yes, the game chunks which are not within altar perimeter will reset every 30 minutes if you are not directly in it's viscinity. There is no way to prevent this or change it as of now. Hope it helps

If I remember correctly in one of the channels it was said that reset is also necessary to keep save game size under control because savegames would become really big if there wouldn't be some "erasing" occasionally and that would cause a bunch of other issues (starting with loading times).

@agile fern Yes and no. Depends how they structured the base mesh and if the map and or save files do so in chunks. Like I said earlier, it's early access, I get they want to take it slow for now. Just wanted to know if anyone had a scuff "fix". Cheers for the responses though all.

@agile fern It is doable. But as you said it can result in long load times depending on how the engine deals with it. Saw that sliders and map options are in the works, but I wouldn't expect that any time soon. I'm sure they have bigger things to deal with.
