Yeah, in a purely long-term company health sense, this is the objectively right thing to do. But when making the line go up for quarterly profits is your only goal, and games take years for a team to produce, canning your best staff is a great way to cut costs in the short term (and then raise the costs later down the line when you have to rehire everybody)
It's frustrating for sure, both for players and devs

Yeah, there's a lot of doomerism about the games industry right now becuase of the layoffs, but I feel like we're just in the downard cycle where the AAA studios need to make a quick buck. Then in another year or two, they're going to be spending bajillions of dollars buying up the indie studios that get founded because people got laid off and cant find jobs. Then there'll be another massive hiring spree to finish those games, and the cycle continues.

Yeah, though modders probably make up .1% of the actual gaming community, if that. And even they probably underestimate the ease of fixing game issues when you're tying to make a game for your entire player base and not just the specific things they want to fix. There are a lot of competing priorities in game dev, and targeting the best things first is super challenging.
Not to say there aren't studios that bungle it or choose to release new content instead of fixing old stuff, but it's very much not straightforward.

i stay away from gun games usually, or fps/shooters, especially pvp/multiplayer. i used to be indifferent, and more open to these games, but over the years, i've heard the theory about how violence in games can affect you. and decided to take this more seriously by testing the theory and staying away from such games, not just for a day, but for months/years. overall i find i am more peaceful.
go figure that exposing yourself to violence constantly would have an effect on your brain chemistry (sounds so obvious in retrospect). it makes sense too, the more you expose yourself to high stress environments, you can become desensitized but also it will affect you. it also seems there's a culture around playing those games and so on, don't really want to participate or glorify anything about those games in any way.

it has levels to it, a building adventure fantasy game is different from call of duty, or counter strike, or battlefield 6. GTA is different from those too, but probably still up there with games that are violent, and realistic. so if i am going to play a game with violence in it, it would be more detached from reality and more based on fiction or a fantasy world or different time period. the monsters in windrose are undead, or boars or something. again even the boars still different from a pure hunting simulation game, which is probably more problematic (especially since i am vegan, playing a hunting game seems ethically wrong to me, whereas playing a game where you hunt some fictional boars is different).

BUT i would argue if an actual hunter stops hunting, and finds their fix for hunting from playing a hunting game... THAT'S way better... especially if they were just hunting for sport and not for survival/food.

i have a friend who wont watch any movies with 'severe' violence or gore in their ratings. i typically lean the same way, like i wont watch the SAW movies, despite liking horror. it's just not for me. but i am way less strict about it, because for example i will watch fallout and complain about some of the scenes lol, but my friend will NOT watch fallout at all. either way, my friend does make exceptions for... movies that are important, have an important message, have some value that goes beyond the fact that the movie is excessively violent? so it all really depends for my friend.

night time still lets you see, scattered zombies, high stealth mechanics, and otherwise slow/stamina souls-like? combat, is basically prioritizing exploration.

it's open world, non linear maps, it's whole design philosophy conflicts with itself. it's technically a coop game, but it borrows from extractions. and while you 'explore' to gear up, it's not true exploration, or giving the exploration feel like nakwon does from just watching it.

nakawon puts you in a map that is open world concept, but linear design since you are in a city with streets. the stealth gameplay lets you evaluate your surroundings, so having time to look at the surroundings is kind of key to using stealth well... they have a timer, but then allow slow walking stealth mechanics that take ages to reach 1 zombie? that might conflict? unless the timer is really long?
