That quote is from a reddit post and I can guarantee they are not sourcing anything for this, anti-cheats (at least battleye and EAC) do not have set fees, but are priced in contracts on a per-game basis. I imagine gameguard is similar, it's how they all work.

Basically, if you aren't put off by the presentation, fighting bosses and looking for loot and new blocks and leveling your character are all fun. You unlock a ton of different worlds with different biomes that you can freely teleport between and towards the late game it can get challenging

But if an "all ages" kind of presentation puts you off, maybe go for Enshrouded instead. They share a lot of the same DNA

I agree with this take, but I respect other people’s preferences.

My personal issue with procedural generation is it tends to lack unique world features and landmarks.

Even massive games like NMS which has added a lot of variety to its algorithm, still ends up with distinct repetitive patterns, whether that be the fauna, certain landmarks, or the planets themselves.

What I love about enshrouded is that the map is curated with unique puzzles, buildings/towns, and landscapes. You can see the level of effort put into the world building.

Game might be fun for a day or two during the start of each season. I had fun playing it but the AI sucks. Ships higher level are so easy to outplay. I haven't tried pvp yet which I hope is good because maritime warfare is pretty sweet.

I played Skull and Bones in the beta, and it's fun but I don't know if it's built for the long-term live service it's aiming for. It lacks the charm of Black Flag, not being able to board enemy ships and fight them and stuff was a bummer. And the ship combat is just so streamlined and simplistic, the ships are super fast and manueverable, you can aim in a 360 circle basically. Just doesn't feel like you're actually piloting a pirate ship lol

I played the S&B beta, it is an excellent game in coop (solo I can see me getting bored pretty quickly) with beautiful graphics, very consistent interconnected mechanics that actually make sense, super fun gameplay, and not over-bloated with map POIs. (Though it does have a pseudo-loading screen for disembarking on locations unlike AC Black Flag that was seamless open world on and off ship)

Would I spend 70 for it though, not likely and I am a huge Ubisoft fan having all AC collector's editions released so far.

the only currency you can buy is for the cash shop vanity items. The only piece you can buy off of it that has traits on it are easily gained in the free progression pass

the deluxe edition does have an additional pass that has exclusive items on it that are slight variations of things you can get in the free progression pass

that has 3 tiers in that pass. the free one has 9. A shotgun you can get in the deluxe pass can be bought in the 2nd tier versus the 9th which is why some may say it p2w

anyone in your group can just drop the gun if they have it and you pick it up and you can just use it for the rest of the match.. its not really that big of a deal imo

If you want to combine the action combat with the survival building aspect, I think Enshrouded is best in class. Conan Exile also has an action combat system, but its definitely showing its age and isnt exaclt more challenging.

not necessarily. One of the best systems I have seen in a long time for "raids" is in The Front. Their system is you have 2 place-able objects. The spawner and the base land claim item (would be the flame in enshroudeds case). Npcs spawn at the spawner and try to get to your base item. They will follow a clear path to the base item, allowing you to place traps and such, as long as there is one. If not they will break through whatever is in the way. The really nice thing is its player controlled. You decide when you want to do it so you can plan for it. The waves also get harder the higher you clear. This kind of system could work in Enshrouded.

Icarus has some interesting ideas to it, but it's held back by some design decisions that make it pretty repetitive as you continue to play it. The mission/roguelike idea is cool, but you end up basically skipping half of the progression (or more) in later missions and it makes things start to feel very samey.

But it's still pretty fun to play for a good 50 hours or so, so well worth t he money if you're looking for a slightly different survival take. I'd say it's closer to more 'standard' survival games like Ark or Rust, but more co-op than PvP

I know I got to ~42 or so and saw I needed ~500k xp to unlock more toys to play with and decided to put it down and come back later

combined with pals just not doing anything when away from base on a dedicated server meant that even though I put in ~80 hours with bases setup to help reduce the grind it wasn't enough

We had a lot of fun with what was there, just reached the end of the fun parts for now. Hopefully it continues to improve and we can come back later and start fresh to see the new stuff and improvements.

Last Epoch isn't bad. Its a more casual friendly ARPG compared to Path of Exile. The endgame loop personally got stale after a day or two

I'm personally waiting on POE2 to get back into PoE. Played since its alpha days but check out leagues from the past 3 years from time to time and the loop has always been fun which multiple avenues to farm currency efficiently. My problem with Last Epoch is that the end game loop felt super boring this last build and wasn't fun enough of a game to just try different builds for each class.

Another thing I love about PoE is how awesome their cosmetics are. They are leagues above anything I found in LE

I also think the latest league for POE is a big step forward. The transmuted gems is a HUGE upgrade to how the gem system works, and it added a lot of life into build variety. Especially for people wlike me who hate heist.

One of the things that draws me to LE over POE is a part of the philosophy. I hate that there is the intentional design space in POE where some things are just bad and you shouldn't take/use them. It feels like such a waste, so it's cool to see in LE that their philosophy is "Everything should be valuable, just maybe not for the build you're playing right now."

My only complaint about POE's cosmetics is that they're so expensive. I understand why, but man is it hard to justify spending $15-20 for like... a portal cosmetic.

Yeah, I've never been a huge cosmetics lover. My main enjoyment from ARPGs is actually the build making. It's good in POE, but I like the way LE approaches it way more.

I'm also looking forward to POE2, if nothing else it'll be a new passive tree and mechanics to play with.

But anyway, on the games topic; I don't find LE's core endgame any more boring that POE's. Like, POE has more mechanics sure, but I can only run 5-10 maps in a row before it gets real boring. Part of it is that at that point the progression slows down so much that it's harder to see your build "advancing" without either buying stuff from the market or doing crafting gymnastics.

I'm also a big fan of playing the market on it. The game has been out long enough where you can tell what builds are gonna be strong for certain leagues and what streamers are doing to know what stuff is gonna be crazy in price and also the RMT aspect if you are into selling for money

I play mostly solo, so when you get to a point and your next build upgrade is unforeseeable, I start to get bored and be less interested in playing. It happens with both games, like I've only ever gotten one level 100 in LE, but I've never gotten close in POE because the endgame grind is so much longer.

Just tried the free trial of NMS and I have to say thank god I never ever invested in this game directly. I got it on PSN when it was available for free/part of my Sub but thank god I never paid for it directly!

OMG what a really bad game. No tutorial that is worth jack, your left to fumble around and I appear to have found a bug in the Omega build that stops you from going any further than the second mission. The game didn't give me a Construction Research Unit even though I built a base I didn't have the blueprint for one.

So yeah still not recommending that game to anyone and it givers me the fear to see what might be heading our way with Light No Fires.

grand exchange in RS3 has standard prices. they go up and down true - but when you're trying to trade you need to haggle on prices.

and since you're the one initiating the trade in RS3 instead of the GE - the other player has leverage over you. where they can make you do stuff as collateral in order to trust them.. GE is much safer. - what i think ruined Runescape - is the BOTS. and also squeal of fortune/treasure hunter. after that - Runescape Became pay to win.

Few more things to add. Maybe you are the issue if you have no sense of community since everyone I play with seems to have 0 issues being social and making friends. I sure do miss the scamming community that targeted less knowledgable players. I sure do miss the people who sat in town trying to find a internet GF. Or if you pretended to be a girl you were showered with gifts lol. The one thing I agree with is that bots are ruining the game, they ruin every MMORPG, and have been in the game since the beginning. I am into space and science fiction games. I thought I'd like NMS when it first came out. I waited for launch then all the bad stories started so I held back. It wasn't until I tried it out after the PSN had it as part of the subscription. At that point I honestly wasn't impressed at all. I think that was about 3 or 4 years ago maybe longer. After trying it out this weekend I haven't changed my opinion.

Your absolutely right it is horses for courses otherwise we would all be the same.

I am hoping LNF will be a lot better but if it is going to have a similar UI and mission progression system as NMS I'll quickly be unimpressed. I will therefore not be buying LNF until I have seen reviews and at least a few people streaming it.

I however will be buying Nightingale on the 20th. I am intrigued enough with that after the Stress test, even though I have my reservations I think it will be a decent game to play.

Eh, they don't need to hold onto massive concurrency numbers. It'll die down between big content patches and then see a big bump when they add stuff.

I guess it was a lot of content -- They didn't really have to spend creative energy to create the Pals. The backgrounds and models outside the Pals feel very generic to me; almost mobile game like. The building is just OK. I get the appeal, but the veneer wears rather thin, IMO

during matches, you can search for another type of currency used to unlock passives but that currency drops when you die so you have to actually extract to earn them

As an OG backer to the very first Star Citizen funding campaign, I got good news and bad news - it’s less buggy and there are more features but… it’s still not great. Still, there is some amount of “make your own fun” to be had with it if space games are your thing.

Anyone play DDO? I just specced out of vistani back into assassin main, and my rogue is smashing stuff again. I heard for years Vistani is the best dagger rogue tree, but I have doubts. I typically main Assassin and put 41 points into it, then ~25-28 points in Vistani.

i mean put it this way i go mining, or transporting materials. they both have a cost to either process or aquire. the profits from doign either is just really low when you factor in time spent. and that players hunt those spots to kill/steal what your worked on with no real negitives. so just to me its a pointless loop and not fun.

add in their now making it so ship parts can randomly break, ship componets wear out so need to be replaced... just yuck and yuck
