If you build a column right behind your char and back up to it, then your char vanishes like first person mode (or back up to an existing wall, rock, tree, etc, but they are not always in the perfect spot)

We made a little chess board on one of our platforms, had to use dishes as figures

And here is some more, tried my best to make a piano tile too and I wasn't quite happy with the table selection so I made my own marble style table with saffron flowers sticking out in the center (whole build was made by me and 7r!x and submitted)

for some reason my gamma keeps getting reset when i continue to tinker, but playing with highlights and shadows and setting the gamma down a notch or two makes it look really nice. there's still bloom from outside areas, but as that's a game setting i've kind of come to terms with it. lowering exposure helps some, but not a lot. this looks good though

You don't need the roots, the spots on the wall on certain blocks (like the half timbered) that will spawn the ivy when you place dirt or flower soil or other soil on it are random. Just have to keep trying different spots until you get the ivy 🙂 (which we had a proper placeable so there wasn't so much ivy roulette time wasted! LOL)

I’ve done large builds with both methods. I found that I liked building better when I first selected what I wanted the centerpiece of the build to be and then built around that on the fly without a plan

My current end game base with 150+ hours I caved down into the center of a mountain, placed a flame altar, and then built around that until I had no more mountain / space left

This is how my Central Room in my Palace Build Evolved during the last Days. Also has not much Furniture in it yet but am looking forward to decoration Work. Will probably need another 150-200 hours for everything. Did my build in Singleplayer so besides to building was a lot of farming involved. Also needed to terraform the mountain to create a larger space that was needed for the rooms. But was a cool experience but a very time and work intensive week to build 😄 Grateful for the experience and its cool to see all the beautiful builds out there. 🙂

@dire blaze Thank you! 🙂 its a thin layer of luminous Growth i have been using for it 🙂 It gives a darker blue and in the Bottom part i have hidden behind the railings next the the wall these blue glowing Stones that there is kinda a gradient in color. Dark blue at the top and the brighter blueish color in the lower area 🙂

I personally built wall sections in 3 blocks and placed the blue in the middle. I also actually spaced them out a bit with torch light, which I find helps to diffuse it a little for windows

(specifically, I put the torches into the windows in small sections to add a flicker to the glow, which actually tricks the eye a bit into thinking it's not as overpowering)

u could try to dim the blocks by putting them 1-2 blocks deeper and surround them with diff. blocks.. so 1 block row is covering them at the edge, dunno how to say that, it worked with my creek

(more detailed breakdown of my particular process! It's worth mentioning that surrounding material choice is actually pretty important. Lighter blocks make for brigher surroundings, and in interior spaces, this can be a mixed blessing, since the light will bounce on more spaces, but also blend a bit more easily)

I actually found that if you use weathered stone I think and place two on top of each other then delete the one below, the top one actually has “legs” that reaches down all the way and you can place lumi blocks inside that so they get these 4 edges around it 😄 made it look way less blobby

Used this stone that gets so wide at the top and it dimmed it a little bit 🙂 Also placing the blocks hidden like led strips make them illuminate the wall next to them and ceiling little bit more then spreading the light around everything it seems 😄

I'm nowhere near the nominees. Personally, I started my build when the contest was announced, and did the work solo. When I saw that the building contest would allow submissions from players who had builds spanning back since the release, I was a little bummed. It felt a little unfair. But at the same time, all of that incredible talent being recognized was really really nice, and very cool to look at for certain! And I'm still really proud of the work I did. I cranked out an entire Detailed living space in less than a week, and I'm actually just going to make it my main base now, since it looks really good XD I'm most proud of my working coffin bed!

The luminescent block is incredible, it gives a very mystical atmosphere, blocks like that but in other colors would be magnificent, since there were 4 days of the contest, I didn't have time other than the nights hahaha,

but your construction is much more mystical, I love it, It gives the sensation of an energy source bursting from the ground, I have seen a lava block, but I still can't get it, but those blue and lava blocks could combine very well

One Picture shows the current State of my shaped mountain. Plan is to make a Cave System under the Structure with a big Central Cave that has some Glowing trees and plants inside. And a few Cave Opening so that from the outside its visible that the Palace is build on a Cave System.

On the Other Picture is the Current State of the Throne Hall where i would like to add some Dining area and also some Lights in the middle Area. On the sides some Custom Shelfes with books. A long way to go with the build till its fully decorated and done.

building over shroud looks so cool. I have a plan to expand my building territory towards the shroud and build there too. Although itll take time. Build is at the top of a mountain and shroud is far away 😄 but i would like to do a connection through the mountain. Plan is to keep the architectural style of the palace but do a city. on one side i already build a custom made mountain path for the contest entry but i think ill repeat it on the other side of the mountain too.

I have tried that many times .. one quick tip .. the upper part of the shroud is NOT flat! Its like a fog with bumps on top. So you have to find the sweet spot - a plane which is completely buildable! Thats where you place your "ground floor".

Oh thx for the tip! yeah i understand it has these "cloud things" the shroud 😄 at least it looks like from the distance. i ll try to make a picture to explain where i mainly plan out to build. 🙂 basically on two sides there is shroud area but in the middle there is a thin bit of land 🙂 definitely am planning to start building in the middle and then expand from there. i have my current main flame altar on the top of the mountain so i guess if i put the other one close to the ground, the build areas should overlap. dunno yet if it will work out because itll be a quite big build but ill try 😄 The middle part of the mountain i am planning to carve out. So that it looks like the palace will stand on big pillars of stone but i want to do them angled so that it looks little more natural. 🙂

Anything is possible in this game if you use your imagination.
Build a building, smash it with a pickaxe, and then put blocks on top of it again.
You'll find a new way to express yourself.

Sooo This is my current project. Far from what i am planning (dont know if itll be enough to expand the buildable area with flame altars enough.) but i want to create basically an own kingdom with different city parts and some lore. the mountain was way higher but layer after layer removed the top of the mountain to have enough build space. now the plan is to terraform all sides of the mountain, create paths to the top, put some decoration and i guess ill start with the city area first. Afterwards i want to hollow the mountain out and do a big cave inside with several openings so that it looks a bit like the palace is on nature shaped pillars of stones.

The Palace itself needs a lot of work too. Garden Areas and outside details missing and Maybe itll be a little higher too. For the harbour area i am planning to use the shroud area left and right as my "waterfront areas". maybe ill do some piers too. The Palace itself is already at 100+ hours. Farming Mats probably around 30-40hours cause i am a Solo Builder. so i guess itll be a long term project. One Custom Path on top of the mountain i have already completed. The other still is missing. For the Cave i want to try to create bioluminescent big trees.

I want to follow a little bit of the design i have in the palace currently. the bottom/foundations in darker colors, top in grey/white. rooftops probably will be red/orange and if we get new building blocks i might use these too 😄 I try to somehow use every type of block or combine them in to something. The thickest walls inside the palace are 5-6 blocks wide because on one side is some kind of patterns and on the other side. So that its not a flat wall.

@upper zealot Jup i agree. Arrangement is important. Or what i also like is symmetry. Asymetrical builds are great and have many uses but especially for big halls or so symetric builds are poweful i believe. Because you are standing in the middle of the room and left and right everything is the same and polished. Asymetric Builds are also very interesting but thinking about the distances in order to have the inside and outside look with its proportions good takes a little bit more time with them i always felt 🙂

Sadly, digging down from the wizard tower does not reach any lava., already tried that lol. But the little lake is just south down the ridge of it. So you could have a mordor looking tower in the distance in the background of your build if you build on the isle. Could definately be cool, especially if you altered both.

Next project - turn the area around Souterrain farmstead into a classic Persian walled garden. Size 4 altar planted right next to the well in the central courtyard covers most of the peninsula, leaks into the shroud on this side and not quite down to the shroud on the other side. Putting the altar in the first room down the stairs might center it up better on the landscape, but I don't think I care *that *much. 🤔

i like the look of it and how you build the chandalier! something similar i am trying to do with a round shape 🙂 the candles fit the wood type very well and give a nice light! not too bright, and not too dark light 🙂 the bar seems fine! 🙂 an other thing that would work well is a custom bar. for example 1 block heigh and on top a row out of these "boxy" looking small chairs. or putting tables together and on one side some wood that acts as the back of the bar. with that way you would have a slightly less tall bar 🙂 love the look of it and how you created these custom desks!

Great job on that mate, but some blocks have a different colour / design if placed on the ground versus vertically, you should update it to reflect those too. Also this applies to 2x2, 2m blocks of terrain, colours are different on sides compared to on top

The Base looks pretty pretty big from this angle 😃 These blocks create a beautiful harmony. I like this combination. What i also like is the change from darker materials to brighter. like a gradient. I don't find it derogatory as many asians are extremely talented and have an awesome work ethic. In my years, I've worked for Japanese companies that really taught me the value of hard work and hard play.

If I look at your screenshots, you're on a good way to there. I think, minecraft is harder to get really good looking stuff (like some of the hermits are doing for example). In enshrouded, block mixing is your friend 😄 try to some of the cut stones with rough stones fo example, to see what texture it gives you

I love Valheim! The building is a bit of a challenge but it's a fun game. I like Enshrouded better as it's a bit easier for me. Being 60 and having arthritis and brain damage, I don't think or move my hands quickly. Other than typing.
