Those quests should be under "Missed" qauests. Just means the quest has been completed on the world and not by that character.

One person got super excited, we talked on Discord for an hour, made a text outline for our server basics and goals and then they deleted the server the next day. Nobody has posted a RP-related server in the LFG server in months. Every person who's invited me to their server as a RP server later said they don't RP and are new to it, would try it later, etc. So IDK, something about this game doesn't seem to draw the kind of nerds that jump into RP with strangers.

I've been doing it for 30 years; started on AOL, then Yahoo, the mIRC and then I found MUSHing....a few other sites here and there. But it seems like on the whole the hobby is becoming less accessible and more fast-food when it does happen and I just kinda...IDK...I miss writing big fat posts and getting the same, I miss long term world building, but the trouble (and the frequency of toxic people within the community) kinda made me back off as a whole. Figured I'd give it a shot here but I think it's not really in the cards.

So I've tried to take up other hobbies; model building, more reading, working out, and it's going okay, but I'll probably always miss RP like it used to be.

And for the pillars, theyre gonna reverse the LODs, so you get very very blocky up close and awesome high fidelity pillars at 100m upwards, gonna cost you ~45 fps on average per pillar tho.

lol, you can find them in the first zone. some people take over "longkeep" and some build a simple box for the "tutorial" area since you don't need much

but once you've done the "ancient spire" you will be able to see more buildings in the distance, feel free to take whichever one you like the look/location of, but you won't have the materials to repair them for a while

Yeah, my biggest gripe is optimization. I can run Ark Ascended on high (Not epic) just fine and maintain a solid 70-90 fps, but I lag in this game? It's a little much, but voxel based games are hard to optimize as it keeps in mind that every inch of the world is destructable.

Oh someone woke up on the wrong side of their toy today. No, planned obsolescence comes from making parts designed to be faulty sooner and intentionally instead of building things to last. They build them, with intention, to not last as long. It doesn't matter the brand. Using less resources makes them less expensive to build, so they make money through people having to repeatedly buy them.

An example is how some functions completely shutdown other functions if it detects issues with one part.

A common tactic in the computer modules in vehicles

Most mechanics I've met always talk about it and say how luch they hate new cars that are managed via and computer system vs the old mechanical cars.

You can also consider companies battle against the right to repair as a form of developing obsolescence in modern devices.

Apple is a huge contender in that regard, constantly finding new innovative ways to bypass the right to repair laws.

One proven planned obsolescence conspiracy was with the lightbulb industry.

There are many documentaries out there u can look that cover it.

Long story short, the lightbuld industry back in I believe the 1920s found that due to how efficient, longlasting and durable their lightbulbs had become they actually began to lose profit, so all of the top electric industries came together to make a contracted agreement to target a lifespan ranging around 10yrs.

Which is more than enough time tbh but still technically a blatant case of planned obsolescence.

Just look up the 100yr lightbulb thats still running too this day from the 1920s

You could wait until after Steam Spring Sale. 1.0 is probably 6 months away (or more) though. But especially if you like base building, you can easily put in 1000+ hours. So that's not very much per hour even at full price if you wanted to start now instead.

A lot of Enshrouded players start their building by taking over an abandoned farm or small settlement and fixing it up. Many of them come with some furniture and decoration still in good condition so you automatically get a higher starting comfort level.

There are also lots of npc survivors, pets, and farm animals you can put in your base. Survivors and pets don't actually do any work, but survivors give quests or craft items for you out of materials, you can get a small buff from pets, and some materials are made by farm animals.

This game is very similar to Minecraft in build mechanics, but you can place props like tables and chairs to sit in, and it has terrain like the "no cubes mod" for minecraft.
why minecraft? There's a Grid. and you can't deviate from it (you can for props and trees and stuff though, just not blocks or terrain)

Progression: obtain materials in a biome, make armor, find weapons... next biome, obtain NEW materials, find new weapons, make new armor, beat boss...

don't be fooled, this is grossly oversimplified and the real gameplay loop is actually pretty darn fun... the biomes are diverse, gathering things can be unique and each place has different challenges,

Don't worry too much about first bases, you can make a terrible box as your first home and it'll be fine. It's common for player bases to be like ugly box > nice farmhouse > floating waterpark in the sky

Story is teeechnically non-existant in a sense. it's fairly "open" and the game doesn't have any real cutscenes except an opening one... but Lore and "what happened/is happening" is surprisingly deep even without cutscenes

adventuring is great, the lore is great but you won't always have time to read it, luckily there's a lore journal to double check things if you need to grab a lore note and bolt. no cutscenes at all besides the opening one. and... the game implies "This is happening as you showed up" but those events happen "as you show up" every time from that point on :P

it's not that you can't.. but... there's no windows... they haven't added transparent blocks yet

there are window PROPS, but they don't hold water back... somehow including the solid opaque windows that clearly should hold water back

but closed doors can hold water back... this games weird/early access

the devs are aware we want transparent blocks though

the water is awesome though, it's like Terraria water... but 3D

so a couple things I want to tell you before we get into gameplay, this is more "set up" stuff that is important

fresh install, the game is going to "compile shaders" upon first launch... don't load a world until that's done, you CAN play before it's done, but it's slower... safest/faster to just stay on the main menu until it's done

"your GPU drivers are outdated"
...be careful, there is a bug as of recent, if you update to the latest Nvidia drivers, the grass breaks... so... IF you need to update your drivers: #troubleshooting message "last known good Nvidia Driver is 591.86"
if you load in and the grass doesn't look like grass... check "small foliage" isn't "off" in settings, if it isn't off... you may need to revert to an older GPU driver

these are my "pre-emptive troubleshootings" for you

...building is kinda like minecraft, but you can place a 8x8x1 wall, so you don't have to do it 1x1x1 block at a time, blocks are 0.5 meters in this game and your character is 2m (4 blocks) tall

but similar to minecraft... there's no "easy replace" option, you do have to add blocks, then later remove them and re-add them as a new material

"enshrouded area" is a sub-biome of the biomes. in a sense that there's shroud everywhere... but later biome's shroud is harder with new materials, than early biome's shroud

the game has a quest almost immediately giving you a flat place to build at... but you can find much better places though, but the "starter base" location is actually really good for early on/tutorial stuff

They have set (unmarked) spawn points, so once your base expands wide enough to include that spawn point they'll stop showing up, but until then it's a bit of a reoccurring event.

I've done GS it's pretty stupid OP, every atk staggers enemies so it genuinely stunlocks every enemy u fight. Lizards, scavengers, Stalkers, even some bosses.

Sure ya didn't pick it up and it's in your inventory? If not, try teleporting out of the zone and back. If that doesn't work, give it 30 minutes while staying at least 562m away and the dog will respawn (and you may have to tame again).

Get more NPCs (they give lots of quests)
Don't overlook Rested bonus - raised by building higher quality furniture
Plan your excursions, especially into the Shroud
Know your exit points and how far you are from them
Gear matters
Refine down any duplicate weapons/weapons you won't use for Runes
Respecs are cheap and easy so experiment with your build
Use Flame Altars as teleport points to save hassle down the road
Mark gold and silver chests you find - you'll thank yourself later
Explore, don't rush; it's not about beating the game, it's about inhabiting it
Boxes are easy to make, hang on to all the stuff you collect for now

once you make a world, you can "Edit" the difficulty anytime, I recommend just... turning "loot loss on death" off

I also recommend turning off "turbulence" but that's less of a gameplay thing and more of a "motion sickness" thing, idk why they added it, it's pretty dumb

Since the game doesn't have a giant story you progress through so much as it has lore, the impetus is on players to make a story. But I figure a simple place to start is Flameborns resurrecting, orienting and training up other Flameborns with different skills, sorta restoring the world one hero at a time. This is my excuse to level up a world to max with lots of stored goodies, then bring new characters to it (AKA people's alts of different fighting styles and personalities).

One very silly thing about this game, which I hope is an early access growing pain thing that will go away, is that if a player emotes, it broadcasts that to the global chat, no matter how far away they are. Hopefully there will be local and global chat, like a /say command or something that also catches emotes. I don't need to know that Bozohozo sits down when I'm fighting a freakin' Sicklescythe 2km away.

There are lots of cool utility perks as well; in fact my build has more utility than straight DPS, but I melt down foes in 2-3 seconds so it hardly matters.

Yeah but backstab makes the work easy even at lower levels - compared to Mage which is, if you only use mage gear, VERY squishy and low DPS until mid 20s.
