I feel like the only way HDD can be viable for gaming is if you can get it to say 256TB, the data density "might" be able to have the sequential speed around similar to SSD, though it's IOPS will still be inferior to SSDs

I'm working on a passion project that acts as a hybrid between Stream Deck, VoiceAttack, and AutoHotKey. I'm currently building a custom control layout specifically for Enshrouded to test its capabilities... And to use it for myself.

I'm looking for ideas: What are the most annoying repetitive tasks or complex keybinds in the game that you wish you could trigger with a single voice command or phone tap? Open to any suggestions for the ultimate control setup. At the moment, I use the voice commands "sword", "bow", "torch", "heal" and "panic" (that's for the health potion haha)

One would have to align the character first, though. I don't use fancy AIs to do the automations; I have to create them by hand. I'll give it a try now, right after I finish getting my ass handed to me in the shroud haha

That's probably not possible unless I had access to the game data directly (or read it from RAM) and/or use a heavy vision AI model (no thanks). But what I could do is aligning the character manually beforehand and if I know how many blocks wide I want to build, I can repeat the task that many times, then you realign the character manually and do it again. This would work for me at least, because I normally build scaffolding/platforms to do the roofs

I do think the industry, as a whole, is starting to give more attention (rightfully so) to indie studios. There's a settings menu before you load in the server to change how you want to play and difficulty, I'd advise to not try harder settings on your 1st time playing, particularly if you're playing solo.

it's an RPG server, you kill robots to get exp, and you can invest in skill points, and get permanent upgrades like strength, armor, regen for both, ammo regen, anti gravity, awareness (crit chance and skill efficiency), team power (weaker version of the first 2 skills but applies to every player connected and stacks), block (evasion), reload speed, vampire, and pets (currently does nothing)

That'll help. The building system is more advanced than most, I'd suggest just going simple structure and not go crazy fancy. Focus on questing, new gear/weapons and killing shroud roots. Every time you kill a new shroud root you get a skill point and you get 2 for every level up, it's important to get those.

Not exactly. You can push skill points into the beast master tree and the animals are friendly with you and you can get them to help you, from what I've seen the points are better off spent elsewhere.
There are mage summons that can thrown by any class and cost mana and then there's a chance of a skeleton that spawns and a mage skill that has a chance to spawn a necromancer skull that attacks nearby enemies.

The chances of getting mounts is low. Maybe combat pets. There's companion pets that stay in your base/house, they just give you a small temporary HP bonus.

There's players who want all the things without playing the game, and then players who want the best gear to require maximum grind. This doesn't seem that bad to me as the default somewhere in the middle. Plus there's always "get all the things free" servers for those that really want it.

Yeah, I'm in a mix of Rogue and Tank gear lol. I love that the game just lets you find your own path instead of restricting you too much, but it is totally possble to "waste" perk points if you're not thoughtful about your build.

Super squishy, high damage output and later game lots of AoE if you spec/gear for it. They can be potent but I hear they are quite painful starting out.

That said, respeccing is easy and cheap so feel free to experiment. One of the best things about this game is the devs make it easy to adjust your playstyle, gear, and even the bare game settings themselves so you have a fun time that matches your gaming style.

I'm personally a fan of any weapon that has health steal and wide swings. You get mobbed, but you can smash your way through a LOT of enemies and gain a bunch of health back that way. The big maces are my fave, but if you like to be more defensive then shield&axe work well together- the axe's chopping damage helps break junk terrain and make maneuvering easier while fighting, and can be used to take care of spawners in a pinch.

I came back to play since the update happened while my laptop was getting repaired, and I forgot just how smooth the combat is compared to similar games. i'm starting a fresh run since last time I was really overextending myself and pushing into new territory just to see what's next instead of properly establishing a base and outfitting myself well. I did ok last time, but it was a lot of uneccesarily difficult struggling

it's rare that I have this much fun right from the jump, and I wish similar titles could learn from what's done right in this game. the only other one that I've enjoyed the same amount (but for different reasons) has been Return to Moria, and the Lord of the Rings stuff is doing a lot of heavy lifting in that regard. it's not terrible, but the only thing they have that I consider "superior" is the ability to hold E to pickup all the loose items strewn about around you after mining or whatever. everything else just doesn't feel as "fun" for lack of a better term. the combat is decent and it feels good to wipe out a swath of orcs with a battleaxe, but there's just something about the direct feedback you get in Enshrouded that makes it feel snappier and more enjoyable.

Backups:

  • Each slot has 10 rotating copies numbered 0-9.

  • There is no distinct "primary" save—whichever file the -index file points to is loaded.

Managing Saves

Transferring Saves:

  • This must be done whilst the game is closed.
  • To share a save, copy the latest world save I.E (3ad85aea-7).
  • Dedicated servers only use Slot 1. Rename a save file to match Slot 1 if needed.
  • Files can be renamed to move them between slots.

Rolling Back to an Older Save:

  • Open the -index file in a text editor.
  • Find the line "latest": X (where X is a number from 0-9).
  • Change it to the desired backup index and save the file.

Additional Notes

  • The -info file contains metadata (like world name) but is not needed for servers.
  • Each player generates their own -info files when creating a world.
  • The latest world save files are what should be transferred.
    Ensure you copy all required files when sharing a save. For servers, only Slot 1 is used.

wow, the swimming is so good. I know this is an indie game but this is the rare situation where the polish is maintained the entire way instead of just being an afterthought or a "we'll get to it later" thing. there's games where that would be okay but it feels like it would be disrespectful to the standards they already established. Can I be a little weirdo for a hot second and put some praise out there for the sound design of this game too? Like, all the sounds are great - not always on point, but those make me giggle - but my favorite is honestly the typing sound on the main menu. Like, when you're entering a password - that sound. It's just so satisfying and I really appreciate little sound details like that.

i don't think that's weird. I didn't notice the menu stuff myself but the music has a richness to it that idk how to say it exactly, fits with the world exceptionally well. like Oblivion's music is obviously good and has been praised, but Enshrouded feels like it's woven into the dna of the experience in a way I haven't seen often.

to clarify further, Bethesda games always get to a point where I am playing something fitting but in no way the official soundtrack while I play just to break things up. I haven't done that yet and can't imagine doing that with Enshrouded; I've considered it but it just feels wrong to my ear.

Okay I feel like I'm going crazy. how do you set an NPC's range for wandering after you exhaust their conversation options? before you'd hit E, a dialogue box would pop up, and you could hit F to cycle through the range available to them. now if I hit E, it just goes to their respective crafting menus.
