You can play on multiple saves, but those worlds may end up being further progressed and you won't have the starting experience. If you're a builder, you could always use a resource world to gather materials to build, while doing a fresh run on a new save.

It really depends on your region and their hosting areas. I use GPortal and that works for my friend and I but another person I know doesn't have a good ping with their servers. Best thing to do is check multiple sites and see where the best ping comes from
