But, since it was released so late and didn't do so well, that idea was abandoned by the developer.

(There were other games in the 80's / 90's where developer spent a lot of time working on a game engine with the idea of releasing modular DLC's.. but by the time they released the game either the technology had passed them by, like this game, or they realized that nobody was interested in the modular "pay more for more stuff" concept. I think there was a comic book game like that.. the base "game" was a comic reader, and they were going to release more comics to run on it.. but the idea never took off. People back then wanted one-off products / games, and if more content was going to get sold, they wanted to buy it as a new stand-alone game.. with upgraded technology. So, it wasn't until technology started stabilizing that the concept of add-ons and such started becoming more appealing).```

It's not dead by all means. No game outside of live service ones can really die. You purchased Valheim/Enshrouded? You did already your part to support the game.
Only thing is their updates are slow and not "really much feeling". It's to see if the north is their last or if they continue to support post 1.0.
But also it's to keep in mind that Valheim has a really smaller team of around 10-15 devs to consider. I am really interested to dip my toes again into it after the combat improv. That one made Valheim a little bit tedious

Valheim is easy still one of THE best survival exploration builder games out there next to enshrouded.

Yeah, artists wrote and composed most of their own songs and music. Now labels have songwriting factories with 20 songwriters who write songs based off algorithms, market trends, and formulas. Then the label who owns the pop start assigns it to them based on more data and numbers. And a producer uses pre-made templates to hit certain trends. Sad times!

Save Slots & Backups
There are 10 Save Slots available for your game worlds.
Save Slots:

Backups:

• Each slot has 10 rotating copies numbered 0-9.

• There is no distinct "primary" save—whichever file the -index file points to is loaded.

Managing Saves

Transferring Saves:

• This must be done whilst the game is closed.
• To share a save, copy the latest world save I.E (3ad85aea-7).
• Dedicated servers only use Slot 1. Rename a save file to match Slot 1 if needed.
• Files can be renamed to move them between slots.

Rolling Back to an Older Save:

• Open the -index file in a text editor.
• Find the line "latest": X (where X is a number from 0-9).
• Change it to the desired backup index and save the file.

Additional Notes

• The -info file contains metadata (like world name) but is not needed for servers.
• Each player generates their own -info files when creating a world.
• The latest world save files are what should be transferred.
  Ensure you copy all required files when sharing a save. For servers, only Slot 1 is used.

As of current writing (6 Febuary 2024) we do not have any plans to force wipes at any time. However, with the Enshrouded being in early access and the fact that a LOT of things will change between now and full release, we cannot guarantee that there may or may not be a major update
that requires old saves to break.

Also being that so much is changing, there is always a chance that an update may break old saves, so we recommend backing up saves regularly that you care about. As this would be something that could be the end of the world for players.

We will do our best to avoid this, and it's not something we're planning intentionally we cannot guarantee this will "never happen" either since there are a lot of unknown variables in the future.

I can confirm that at least dogs do not, and I imagine they're handled the same.

There's a dog at Thornhold. I put an altar down with the intention of getting the dog after I unloaded a full backpack. Dog was gone probably immediately at placement. Restarted server. Still no dog. Removed altar, and just like that the dog was there.
