I gotta sing this game’s praises for a moment.

This game is a solid 7/10. The combat is repetitive. The spells are wonky. The skill tree has interesting skills but there’s usually only one or two per tree. And boy is it a grind to do domestic life simulator manually without the ability to assign farming and such to villagers,

However.

Boy, is the exploration in this game good. Each and every location has a level of intentionality that is so cool and refreshing, and you can feel a game designers touch everywhere. Man this game keeps me coming way more than theoretically “better” games because the world design really just is that well done.

As for the rest? That’s what early access is for.

How does a resource world work if you don't mind me asking*

Basically it's a save file stocked with everything. For a private one, you copy the file into your world saves, take what you need, then overwrite it with a fresh copy of the save so the resources become infinite

For a server, it's the same process but with some kind of automated script doing the work

Shroud depot for example refreshes the save every hour on the hour

Nothing new. The devs do want to eventually have it work, but it's not an easy problem to solve, they are basically fighting against physics and the limitations of the HDD's themselves - it'll take some serious magic on their part to work around those limitations, so I probably wouldn't expect news anytime soon.

Explore the map. You get exp for each new location and you can pile them up quickly. Second best would be mining ore. Find a nice big deposit of something, put down an altar and a workbench for repairs, then load up a podcast or playlist and go nuts

If you're a fan of Elden Ring for example, by comparison the combat is much lighter and leaves a little to be desired, but they have said they're planning on rejigging combat still as part of the EA ^^

I didn’t play Val, but we have a lot of players who enjoy both. I think Enshrouded stands out though as its pretty unique - and its a fully custom engine too.

To get through the story/lore? Not overly so. For building... depending how in depths you go, yes it can be. But there are settings that can be adjusted for drop yields and there are 'resource worlds' where you can basically hop in grab what materials you want and take them back to your own world ^^

It's easy enough to kill solo once you know how. In terms of Enshrouded, it's a complexity jump compared to everything else, in comparison to other games, it is relatively simple.

The first time I fought the cyclops, I didn't notice the spell that throws you in the air. Then when I was up there, I ran out of glide time because I hadn't paid attention to stamina either. I fell and took fall damage like 90% of my hp before he killed me with the eye laser.

That one I feel the game prepares you for. I went in with a full stock of healing potions and bandages, and I was already well into managing my stamina so the first time he launched me, I was equipped to deal with it. The fight felt fair. Contrasting that with the Dragon, that fight asks you to juggle four or five mechanics at once (The burning ground, parrying projectiles, mandatory stun, dealing with adds, avoiding sweeping attacks, mobility with the glider, etc) which nothing else in the game asks you to do

Maybe later in the game it will make more sense because more things introduce those mechanics in a way that clicks but as it stands now, it's an abrupt and massive difficulty spike

Yeah I think you need to enjoy "figure it out by dying" to like the Dragon fight. I find it that fun too, but it's a good point that Enshrouded is not exactly advertising itself as "Souls-like bosses"

I'd be in favor of seeing a 2-mechanic level 10ish boss fight, a 3-mechanic level 20-ish boss fight added to the progression.

Maybe the first boss is big scav in full armor, and requires filling the stun bar to do damage. Maybe the second boss focuses on using the glider during the fight, plus dealing with unsafe ground.

First try I was like "oh I did something wrong, how did I get melted so fast". By the third try I was like "Oh.... it be like THAT." Went and built a small base on the edge because it was gonna be a lot more deaths.

I guess at least it's not like Valheim. I'd have so many tombstones around that donut arena and several on the sides of the mountain in places too steep to actually get my gear back.

The game will compile shaders the first time. Depending on your system, this could be fast. Otherwise you might want to watch an episode of some show, wash dishes, etc. Don't get super hyped about playing instantly until you know.

Respeccing is cheap so don't stress about getting the build perfect.

So Ive been re-playing Grounded in preparation for Grounded 2, and I realize it has something so INCREDIBLY useful that Enshouded ABSOLUTELY should have....
The option to see craftable recipies using an item you right click. For example,
Right click shroud wood. Click Recipies. See shroud wood blocks and Glider. Maybe hide recipes that require later-game items until you collect said items.

Thoughts on this before I submit a ticket on it?
