Okay, you've issues with the boss. What are you both playing, if I may ask? I could give advice.
||The sole thing this dragon is brutal at, is his breath attack that keeps chasing you. Everything else is do-able by gliding through the mid, jumping above the laser that he shoots from right / left to the respective other side, etc.
While I agree, yes, tuning on this boss is hard (and even more unfair if you play harder I certainly can say it also depends on your playstyle in cases... You need to fill that stun bar at this boss or you won't get him down.||

But unless you have unstable fps/stutters, the game should react properly to the dragons mechanics

Every mechanic has a counterplay.
If you die in a second to the bosses attacks, your defense is at fault and you took not enough / die too fast to wind up your heal again. Do you use potions for health? What is killing you?
Also, it may be useful to remove / deskill some talents not useful for the fight.
It's called preparation.
Don't forget, too, that the Elixir is a flat 30% damage boost.

You can set bosses to hit softer, have less health, etc in the world settings

Depends. I killed it on normal, so for me it was pretty doable but hard. I also needed 2-3 tries, to get it down, but it's doable.
It's not to be expect to go into the fight and kill it the very first try, experiment, get up to the challenge.
And mind, it's not the end of the world if you cannot kill him by now - I think he'll be easened by time.

I really cant tell you, but I guess, you can manage to do it if you just try more than couple times you know ? It's pretty fun just to understand how it works imo, even if I would have love somestuff otherwise but that's on me.

And if you reaaaally cant manage, You'll find people to help without even needing to be in vocal group I'm sure

After filling up the bar, you can do pretty decent damage with a wand.

About the range, he needs to hover infront of you - then you'll be in range.

Another option is to quickly swap to wand/shield when he throws the meteors and parry/block them back to him with right timing.

I was playing with him and was peppering the thing with stun arrows and it said "resist" every time and wouldn't come down. I was dying all the time because I just don't have the reflexes for that many attacks happening all at once, and then my glider wouldn't catch an updraft and I'll die in the red stuff. Also, when the beam hits you it stuns you and you can't heal as your health goes down FAST.

My biggest problem is this fight is not an option, it's necessary for progress and it feels like it should be on hard mode on normal settings. I get some people LOVE this kind of difficulty, but for someone like me with poor response, it's really debilitating. The WhispWyvern was challenging for me, but easy compared to this.

Just trust me, go fully into zappy mode.
It'll easen the fight and open up windows to burst him. Get him down around 3-5 with a filled stamina bar and you good.
||Mind, everytime he was going down he'll spawn adds. But you can always jump and glide away from them to get the needed distance to deal with them.||

Anyway, tl;dr to my advices:
Check talents/skills if you need them / get defense and go for lightning.
And take a wand with u for vulnerable phases.
It really pays off more than casting more spells
aaand get some potions and good food.

It's required for the altar upgrade, which I believe makes some red shroud areas accessible. There's one last well in some red shroud on the map, or I believe is because I went to the general area and it looked like you had to go in the shroud

It really helps if you won't get oneshot by anything. Also, you can put/mix and match armors from melees for example to get more health.

Take your time. No haste.
Think about your choosings, but I can recommend Fire/Lightning damage for Spells by now. But that depends on what you prefer, ice is best for single targets (for now), fire if you need more "oomph", lightning will raze everything to ground if skilled.
I also saw you took the Shroud nodes - those are kinda useless now because not really much spells to use it with

Oh, trust me.
A good wand can really burst hard into the boss - also, it's safer to get hit with a shield between you and the adds.

Also, I really recommend Earth Aura and Water Aura

Those are surplus. + the boss deals only magical damage

so HP / magic resist may help

I think the general consensus I see here is that Valheim leans more into the more "hardcore" survival elements, with a lot more resource grinding, collecting, difficult traversal, stuff like that. It's a much more unforgiving and grindy game, but that's also what a lot of people like about it. Our game is more fast paced and has more of an emphasis on world exploration, a lot more RPG elements like a skill tree and such, and one of the best base building systems in any survival game.

I'm personally in the boat of thinkin both games are great in their own way, we're a much bigger studio than the guys that made Valheim, so we definitely have a lot less of that indie jank. But again, that's also something a lot of people find endearing about that game, so it's all preference.

Weird. The only thing I've found that fixes it is changing the shadow quality in my settings, letting it reload the lighting, and then switching back. Even then, it's only fixed until I put my torch away :shrug:

You don't honestly need a second base. Can keep expanding the initial one if you want and use the altars as fast travel points.. That's what my friends and I do. That being said, you can pretty much build whenever you want, especially if you find a spot where you enjoy the aesthetic.

I understand people not wanting to remove their bases if they put a lot of work in there but I just wonder if that would be an effective fix.

In order for the quest thing to show up, the area would need to reset, which means you'd lose your base as there's nothing to keep your base there.

The trick to this is creating a resource world so you can get the required thing.... unless it's a key item

Key items are best left with Extra room to avoid stopping their re-spawns

There is an yellow, orange or red line in which you will see at edge of max level 4th side base which indicates where its outtermost part overlaps. Anything inside will not reset, but anything outside can, allowing for farming of certain things without worry.

It's easy to fix, but sacrifices will have to be made in order for the reset to happen. Could be a portion of base depending on where you are positioned.

This is also just early access things with people building bases in a world that isn't technically finished. There's bound to be situations like this where you've built over something that ends up being important where it wasn't initially. I think once the game world is totally done the chances of accidentally planting on top of something with a quest involved will be very low.

Yeah first miniboss is still pretty easy mode. The enemies will ramp up in difficulty. And you can always crank up the difficulty settings if you're a masochist.
