A poleaxe might remain more useful if you get into a bind and can’t do huge swings.

But like I said it all comes down to playstyle and preference.
I simply like something that can ko in one headshot while remaining agile and effective up close

Not AS dangerous, but you can still get caught with a lucky weapon jerk if the AI is feeling particularly petty. The amount of times I ran in to close distance and took some physics to the face that knocked me down is more than I'd like. That's more something that was beaten into me with the demo though, since armour would sometimes just decide not to work in the demo.

Yes you can, it's inconsistent and kind of stupid. If you can't reach it from the outside, kick the chest that's next to it over and use it as a stepping stool to reach further into the cart. I can get it pretty consistently like that, but really depends on if the game wants to work with you.

Up close fighting is a lot easier with a short and agile poleaxe. Preferably one short enough to still use the spikes on both ends.
But you still need to protect yourself from their weapon

Baron's Beak isn't useless at short range, the weight makes it great for knocking enemies over in the bind. The only downside is that it doesn't have the pommel/spike on the other end, but the blunt edge is still good for knocking into heads. I'd need to experiment with a forged weapon before I made a final decision on what's overall best, but I just loooooooooove the reach.

When I say up close I mean close enough to grab them.

although range in bindwork at medium ranges has both pros and cons. Your longer range means that you can hit them from further away yes.

But your weak is also much longer and the weapon becomes all around more sluggish. This means that it becomes easier for your opponent to gain and maintain control of your weapon.

The thing with melee weapons is that everything is a tradeoff

I think my playstyle might have somehow influenced the fact that I reached max weight VERY quickly. If an opponent is rushing me, I just try to push them with a mix of lighter attacks and kicks so that they are in my preferred range again.

Again though, my preferred playstyle is hitting them in the head before they have a chance to rush me.

One handers ofcourse don’t have the leverage or power of poleaxes. But since you have a buckler you can parry and riposte at the same time. But you are gonna wanna focus on the head. And are ofc gonna need a cleaner hit than a poleaxe
