Fun fact, I've fucked a girl who know this guy and his gf
france is small
He's part of the same group (iicr) as that one guy with an italianate kit with plate voiders
Now this is a specific detail
1453-1460
Please add a wrapper for armets other than the baron one so that we can use armet's without risking a stab in the neck 🙏
so true
Can't wait for fringe hoods
Interesting

Smash that subscribe button
smash french women to get into contact with reenactors apparently
i think that specific type is a franzen gugel not 100% sure tho
I wish this armet would show up in the game but it’s too early 😭
I like its full visor
I really want this close helm but iirc turner dates it to circa 1510. Based on one that is in the Royal Armouries reserve collection.
I hope they add ways to change time periods and stuff
I’d like to see older things in the game or newer
But tbh older stuf would just be chainmail
I’d love to see corrazina
not true
first half of the 15th century and late 14th century all had developed plate
more so mid 14th as well, they had a good deal of early plate in the forms of pairs of plates, greaves, etc
some early arm harness here and there iirc
c.1415
I wish I could kill the word "chainmail"
kill the term platemail too
Scalemail
Wait else am I gon call it sum metal hoops tied together against thus body
Maille
maille, mail
i hate a lot of things they did
I thought platemail referred to an eastern type of maille
where it was bits of plate connected to mail
like studs of plate i think
that would be a more accurate way to use the term
I've heard plated maille thrown around aswell, basically the same thing but Crécy is right
ok ok
cause i always associated platemail with that
i just wanna see arming jackets with voiders really
What do you call scalemail
lorica scumata
Scale
Alr
tru
also maille bevors
??
what
its just these
what would also be nice is the ability to have the armor smith craft armor for you rather than just hoping to see the pieces you want show up in the trader or having to strip them off of your enemies. maybe have the option for it locked until you reach the man-at-arms tier or smthn
beautiful
I really like the pattern of maille on this one
as someone who draw brigandine oftenly i can say the 'leeds style' brigandine is a pain in the butt to draw
even though i love it xD
i think some of the rings are denser? idk
like this i think
more brigandine
one on the left is shaped very nice
Yeah 😄
Also I saved this for drawing, probably made by the same armourer who made the brigandines that Mordschlag just shared
Looks like something A.S.H. would do
HANDGONNE SPOTTED
wouldn't milanese brigs better match the rest of the cuirass roster the game has?
Probably but i just like the blue brigandines i sent lol
💯
one on the right is too early for the game
rly? i thought those were like 1410's?
That's why it doesn't fit the game
thers gear in the game that's definitely a few decades before the 1450's tho
There's a 10 year flexibility iirc (1440-1480)
some of the polearms are pre 15th century tho
like?
alot of the halbard-voulge-bardice-whatever you want to call it are from like the 1390's
Halberd, and this design was still used in the game's timeframe
the milanese brig was used up until around the mid 1400's from what i'm reading
wtf is a milanese brig
brigandines made in milan were used in the 1450-70s timeframe
brigandine
but they're different froms earlier "corrazina"
corrazina were used into the 15th as well tho!
EARLY
the game sets in 1475, with accepted references from between 1450s and 1480 max
source?
yes
ok
a bit later than the game but you can still see the halberd design
wait the website is in italian now
oh i think you're right it seemslike the 1450 was a typo
it says 1440 at the latest everywhere else on the sight
site
wow i can't spell today
1434 but grenadine
but ye i was wrong sorry for so adamantly arguing lol
is ok
cool hat
i think some stuff from 1440s also would work, iirc there is a 1440s cuirass currently
what one is that
@latent drift
for some reason i thought that was like 1460s for some reason
I can see that
What is this considered? Vouge?
Any release date for this or not yet?
Not yet
Damn...
Not the worst crime honestly
yes
knife stick
I've heard it both ways
vouge=glaive
post some halberds here for fun ig
"Crucifixion Centurion with Nicodemus and Joseph of Arimathea 1470"
what is this?
Dell'arte della guerra mod for bannerlord
we have to have something like a handgonne or something in the early access at some point soon right? one of the mercenaries in the group is holding one when you hover over them in the tavern
It hasent released yet
i know its a faraway dream but something like a small scale battle mode would be so heat in half sword
would have an even better use for the crossbows
scale would go hard
nice references
There's a scale cap
scale male would go hard
Wildly inaccurate for the period
a scale male
that ones doing a cartwheel
assisted cartwheel
idk scandinavians were using it for years
i'm lost
source?
Provide evidence
Specifically of it being used between 1450-1470
its been usred as early as 1400bc
That’s not what I’m asking
I’m asking was it used during the period the game takes place
that doesn’t mean it was used up to the mid to late 15th century
AFAIK scale maille evolved into aventails and the helmets we see in the game rather than being their own suits
there are also scale “tonlets” seen in the late 14th and early 15th ct iirc
i mean it was used by romans too but the chest pieces were definitely used as late as 1500 iirc so surely it would ve in 1450 let me double check
as well as aventails and scale skullcaps, afaik scale skullcaps are the only scale armors that work for the game
It being used in ancient history doesn’t mean it’s being used in the 1400s
The important part is was it used in the region and time period of the game
And i’m like 99% certain it was not
Just because people wore tricorn hats into combat a long time ago doesn’t mean you’re going to see people sporting them in modern combat
on the wikki for scale it shows an example from about 1450 it isnt the pretty delicate stuff that the scaves used but it is European scale
wikipedia is not a source
*mail and plate
what is it then? scotch mist?
Wikipedia is not a good source, even then that only is talking about Russia and India
it is not very good for this topic at the least
here's another source that says scaling was used as more decorative but it actually functioned as late as the middle ages
fair XD i was quoting someone
ngl i have a tad bit of the wartism so i know what i am talking about, it was not used by commonfolk nore those in armies but it was common in eastern europe around the time but was mostly used by romans wayyy before
i know it wasnt common but it was definitely seen as seen in slip plates (i.e. those really basic scales)
*in the wikki
oddly i see here that that was phased out around 1500 (the time of the game) so idk if it would be time period accurate
Absolutely none of what you have said is valid evidence that scale mail (outside of scale helms seen in the game) would fit the game
eastern europe as in ukraine, russia, etc i would guess
which is beyond the scope of the game, the game is centered around western europe eg the HRE, France, England, Iberia, etc
I thought it was specially southern Germany
right tbh i thought it was just generic european area or bohemia
and the romans or byzantines using it way earlier doesn't mean it was used up until the time period of the game
aye ofc
tbh i was under the impression it was eastern Europe so the Mongolian empire would have been beginning and starting to reach by then would it not? (i am unfamiliar with mongolia)
but ye like you said idk if it was phased out now you got me doubting myself XD
see i thought it was closer to chzech with the language used
definitely europe due to the masonry and castle arenas
in fact maybe modern chzech now i think about it with the smaller buildings because if it was germany or england the castles would be huge
i know more about england than any country as i am one of the tea people XD
1450-1475*
Channel name
The time of the game is 1450-1475, not 1500
Reminder that 15th century ≠ 1500s
Outdated, opening cutscene says the game takes place in 1475
The channel name is out of the game's timeframe...
It’s all been for nothing
Could be updated tho
25 years bruh lmao
That's quite a lot
how to get your cool role?
im getting close to level 3
then i can unboost and look at my cool red role o-o
believe so
Pretty sure its foot combat
i really like its visor
i was just talking about this with my friends yesterday i would love it so much
Wasn't this type of helmet meant for jousting/horseback use? I've only seen it portrayed as such in contemporary art (from the half sword adjacent time period)
This armor is exactly out of half sword. Great work
I want that weapon. It is beautiful
That’s not “out of half sword” that’s based on a real historical piece
Yes. But it looks like from the game
Where can you buy these figurines??
I know which one you have in mind, the one in half sword must be based off of some gothic or alla tedesca piece since it has lots of fluting. Not exactly the same thing
Im not saying exactly like from the game. But thanks for explaining
They are not for sale.
They are made by little french armories.
Damn
Absolutely beautiful, wish more people would make armour like this in Australia
idk if its innappropriate to ask here. but why did armor chest pieces turn into 2 pieces connected with belts? is it for articulation purposes?
to protect the belly better, belts were what they started with (one could make the argument that it would be better for articulation) but that also just became a fashion of doing something
I imagine you can see the "evolution"
is this armor between the early and late 15th century?
no between late 14th and early 15th
No to say that both didn't coexist btw
I do think both are interesting tho!
oh well yeah
one seems much easier to produce
thank you for the info!
they definitely did especially in the early years but then as the 15h century progressed those kind of singular breastplates kinda just weren't used by many people but some infantrymen here and there (obviously in relatively different designs maybe but essentially still the same thing)
I want to make a world setting that takes rough anachronistic inspirations from 1360-1510 ish
which is a pretty big time span
Stained-glass windows from Bern cathedral, 1447.
Kevlar has answered this already, but I also wish to add that, another benefit that it had is that, in the case of a few examples of chestplates made of two pieces riveted together (as is the case in most german cuirasses), this can also provide more mobility if the river holding the plackart and the upper chestplate is a sliding rivet (the rivet has a slot it can move in one direction), without sacrificing protection. This does not apply to all chestplates assembled this way, but only to those who have a sliding rivet like ref_arm_3626.
i see! I think
Many, if not most chestplates with this type of construction, do NOT have this sliding rivet, as is the case of ref_arm_3695 of the Matthias Goll thesis
For reference, this is how ref_arm_3695 it looks like from the outside
Clamshell? Do you mean the fluting (lines hammered into the metal) or...?
This is the outside of ref_arm_3626
Hmm...- Oh- That might be a combination of fluting and cusping
i see
I am not exactly sure where that motif comes from, but I do know that motifs like that help identify the style of armor, which is tied to the region
and then 500 splinters from his lance went into his head
It isn’t that helmet for a mounted melee, not a joust
Oh wait, that was already said, I’m stupid
that gives a nice optical illusion of being the front side lol
i thought jousting was mounted melee
With lances, mounted melee in a tournament context implies tourney clubs
In future you should make a Japanese sword fighting game they had a wide selection of weapons and armor and also a middle eastern cause the have fighting arenas in Jordan and I think both scenes be good for Japanese call it long sword and Middle East call it curved sword
nice references
Hey, does anyone have the reference for the sallet in-game with split visor slits? It's really cool and I wanted to read up more on it
Wrong channel
That wouldn’t be smart making the same game, different font
Would be better as expansions imo
References

doesnt seem to be the best reference
Also - Freydal by Taschen is on sale, I can't recommend enough getting the book, and 50 bucks is a steal
does anyone have good references for how they would use spears in this time period?

this video made me think of Half Sword

don't suppose anyone has any references similar to the cuirass worn by Archangel Michael in Bartolome Bermejo's painting? Mid-15th century Spanish
do you have a full picture of the painting
splendid
Fiore de'i Liberi died in 1409, so his fencing treatsies are a bit out of period, but most of his fencing stuff still applies, and he is one of the best sources for HEMA: https://wiktenauer.com/wiki/Fiore_de'i_Liberi#Spear
also see the gladiatoria and hans talhoffer
Though, Talhoffer does offer very little text, if none at all, Fiore does offer explanations on what he's doing
splendid splendid
hope to see these techniques in half sword some day
less so looking for textile coverings, more similarly shaped/styled cuirasses
Can we get a controller fix
For ps5 n Xbox
Controllers
Definitely a fix on ps5 controller
Wrong channel
bollock dagger when
also it'd be cool to see arming doublets with maille patches at places like the inside of the elbow and armpits
would be cool as an upgrade at the armorsmith
Holy drip
What's wrong with other countries' longbows ?
is the english longbow a mythical weapon
yes
insomuch as it is, at this point, myth, lol
you got it 🥂
pretty much lmao
what's so special about it ?
twas power iirc#
ooh what would be cool is stamp tools like metalworking but that is just becomming kcd2 XD
the French are described using "as per the custom of the Britons... a great bow of wood, and large arrows", so they were also using mythical bows
the 50 cal of the middle ages
I mean, this quote is pretty counter intuitive to your point lol. Literally says they're using longbows as per the customs of the Britons. Just because other people start using them doesn't mean they aren't English longbows
it isnt contrary to my point if you understood the context of the author smh
and they arent "english longbows", but "british longbows"
and this is a stupid point anyways since we literally know that long and powerful bows in Europe predate the English lol
and the fucking French dont "adopt" English bows, its a fucking stone age weapon
the weapon had been in use on the continent since before the english were ever connected to archery
big bow pointy arrow scary
and because this is a reference channel, check this out
It's amazing how thin some points would get in some historical examples
crécy azincourt poitier urrr glorious englishium
Few are possible to do ingame
A lot of spear fencing is in positions that would honestly
Be a fucking physics nightmare
I would die to have some more unique stances
True cross my beloved
buddy
the whole game is a physics nightmare
Yeah, you want it 50x worst?
I don’t see how wielding a stick fancy like would be more problematic than chains
Because in stances like for example true cross, your back is facing the enemy, utilizing the back of your spear in a defensive manner and offensive
Now imagine that in game
Imagine pressing x
That's spear dude
yeah but like imagine it in one hand right
Fiore spear teachings was intended to be used wit all forms of polearms, its a universal teaching
im wishing for better 1 handed polearm animations not whatever you are talking about
surely, it would be within the realm of possibility to allow willie to raise his spear with one arm above his head, no?
Quite literally a one hand spear can used two hand. You didn't even mention it had to be one hand, and also i don't think there is like
Any manual
With spear and shield
Sword and shield
Knife and spear
my friend i think you are just trying to argue for the point of arguing at this point
the more refined form from Mair is more useful
but he's 16th c.
all the useful stuff is in the 16th century
I’m not interested in bickering I simply want to hold a spear in one hand and a shield in the other and I want it to feel good. Okay?
I see
You won't rly get that in half sword but uh
Go crazy
I will check it out
The ingame spear stances are so ass, I pray they get changed
I don’t understand your hostility
I am not even being hostile
I AM
theres also monte, i frogot
FUCK YOU ALL GRRRR
Kevlar be hostile!!
RAAAAH
YEAAAAH
all the postures are kind of ass
its just what u get with a physics game like this
I know why doe
Like i said before
Physics nightmare
Imagine full iron gate in half sword
also devs didnt put that much effort into footwork
That shit would suck
which is way more important than how u hold ur weapon
since it literally affects how u hold ur weapon
You can use like, pollaxe and sword and buckler and sword hema
But like anything else?
Nah
not really tbh
the complete lack of proper footwork gimps you using them properly
although some hemaists fence like that lol
but besides that, it doesnt even fit with the fencing systems that dont have "ordered" footwork
like stuff from Haiti and W. Africa, and some stuff in SEA, or Spanish rapier
because the footwork there still is a little more than just walking
To be fair, half sword is physics based. Which is truthfully the downfall, no matter what they do they'll never make half sword "Hema accurate" because the physics are rly just controlled by you and even then you can't control the full body.
yes but they can still program how the legs and hips are used
Hellish Quart the most hema accurate sword game i know
i’m sure if it’s possible they will change
i mean sort of but it still has some weird choices
its absolutely possible lol, what it isnt is practical. way too late in development
That's also mainly because the devs are hema pracitioners, i don't think half sword devs are hema pracitioners but they are historians
devs also probably dont understand footwork nor do i think they actually care, nor should they
The devs do want a hema accurate + historically accurate game
But far as I know
They are mostly historians
hema inspired maybe
The devs improved a lot of animations (except 1 handed swords) between demo and early access iirc but idk. I know between the abyss demo and the arena demo they did.
The hema practioners that play this don't care too much about footwork, truth be told.
Wrist control is what we all hate
the footwork is literally the main reason this game looks like TABS lol
It sucks that this game has us with limp wrist
honestly even exanima's combat looks better even if its infinitely more limited because the footwork is ordered and not free
although it is still funky
the footwork i mean
(but it is not due to it being physics based, but due to the steps they chose)
It doesn't bother me for two reasons: i can't even use my hema knowledge ingame, due to spear forms being impossible to replicate ingame outside of three lame ass guards.
Two: More fun not using hema lol
Two of the lame ass guards btw are like super half ass
spear doesnt work because the character always steps with the rear foot first
or actually no
i cant remember
but he always steps like the bottom half doesnt know that the top half is fighting
so the rear leg passes the front leg, which is possible and sometimes practical, but it is done poorly
Way to much back weight and keeping the back straight is a task while trying to do things like middle iron gate
Window guard has the wrong hand placement
The hands are supposed to be iirc opposite
tbh i dont really care about the guards
like, even if the arms and everything are correct, its superficial
feet would still be too close together
you would not deliver the blow properly
etc.
The feet placement is semi correct ingame
Rly it's the hands that rub me wrong
They are completely in the wrong spot for window guard
I would care more if the hands were right and the feet were wrong
im not sure what u find wrong
just cuz it isnt fiore doesnt mean it is wrong lol
The thing is, it's rly not anyone lol
I don't even think it's vadi
its basically this but with what the germans would call the grip for the shortened sword
That's not even remotely close to it
post what u are talking about since last time i played the game it was basically just that
Judging by the length of the show spear, he holding it by the middle, ingame you're holding the spear near the back with short grip. This was in the demo, i haven't used any hema in ea for spear
at which area you hold the spear doesnt matter
he is holding it weird but when u change your grip it looks more normal iirc
anyways biomechanically quite literally is the less important of the two between footwork and hand positioning lol
M2 it looks more like the shown manuscript
I love these cross guard and hope they shows up in future update
Also I wish the alt mode for polearm weapons arent buggy lol
that's a degen on his hip right?
Yeah
Its a really cool looking one too
Is that so? So what Fiore says about the spear also applies to polearms like the halberd and the voulge/glaive?
Yes, it's very universal. Every polearm can do window guard, full iron gate, boar tooth, middle iron gate.
Spear + dagger
True cross etc
Ah, makes sense!- How about tail guard? Is that a thing exclusive to pollaxes and swords? Or does it also apply to halberds and voulges?
It's not rly taught in spear.
But there is something super similar
Which is true cross
I must add: While it's not exactly outright said
You can possibly use sword like stances with a polearm
The Pollaxe is full of sword stances and the middle iron gate for a spear is essentially the iron gate for a sword
Nice helmet
sameee i really want great bascinet
tho right now I would be grateful if you can customize all vambraces currently in the game, and have the ability to put maile on the arming doublet
also hoping for the armor clipping issues to get resolved
drive me nuts when im wearing a tabard with pauldrons
or seeing the doublet clip with the vambrace
or seeing my ears and eyebrows poking through a helmet
Tabard with the pauldrons above it looks great!
even if it doesnt make sense...
it makes for good giornea cope
first one is from 1420
what kind of plackart is he wearing?? is it even a plackart in the first place? I've never seen this kind of breastplate before
reminds me of articulated hussar cuirasses
example
I've tried : (they cant
what country does half sword take in
the holy roman empire
modern day germany
#1469435996926906521 they can! only a few tho
i wonder
how many people have died
through the history of half sword
current estimations says around 5 or more
It was 6 people but dont trust victorians
Its called a crayfish cuirass. There is no placard.
SHOW ME
could still be added, never know
old gear is on the table, just will be very fucking rare and likely rusty. Great Bascinets will prob be the only kind of bascinet that could be in game and not be rusty and shitty looking
realistically it’d be too much of a hassle to service a rusty old helmet instead of just buying a new one
a 55 year old helmet is pretty bad man
we don't know how it will be implemented, the odds are its going into a spoilance gamemode as a helmet over the Armet
i honestly would love a gamemode where its just all old gear
that'd be worth making bascinets
I do wonder, if a Katana was brought to medieval europe, would they call it a Longsword?
i think the indian katar dagger would look cool in the game as a new weapon or attatched to a glove
How would that fit the 1450-1475 western European vibe ?
Think
+poison damage
hes not being a dickhead it was said multiple times that the gear would be contained to 1450-1475 germany (hre)
as written here
It’s in the channel description
Not just Germany
Imported ofc
In my defense
...
think
It was a joke!
think about what
think
im thinking
Crecy is lurking instead of posting top tier sallet designs
That rondel is massive
not sure if this is the right thread but any idea what the runes on the polearm axe head says?
ive checked it and it seems like younger futhark but it dosent translate to anything further like latin or anything
im not an expert or anything so if i said anything wrong please correct me
- victory? (or victories) and years? (or maybe abundance, plentifulness, etc.) + god give strength +
In the Latin alphabet it’s written
- Sikri ak ara + kut kifir stirka +
Sikri (possibly an alternative sigr or sigrir meaning victory/victories), ak (probably an alternative of ok meaning and), ara (probably ára meaning either years or abundance), kut (this one might? be a variation of guð, meaning god), kifir (probably a variation of gefir meaning give), and stirka (the most obvious connection to styrka, etc. meaning strength)
Probably actually ära (honor, glory) not ára (years, abundance). So, my guess is
- victory and honor + god give [me] strength +
Mostly likely medieval Swedish which means it probably has Ivan’s hand in it
lol
various cool shit
That messer really looks like a later hussar sabre but i might be crazy
Not saying it is one, just saying they look similar btw
1475 man
Absolutely goated reenactor
...And you have not seen their biggest toy....
Literally quarter ton of bronze for the barrel, almost ton of oak wood and old steel 17 th cent to get something with pre-industrial structure
Four ponds of powder gone with each shot
This thing shining in the sun was otherwordly https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1Gb8q43vh9/
See posts, photos and more on Facebook.
How expensive was it ? Do you have a number ?
this is neat !
Wow!!! My 18th century reenactment group has a 3 pounder bronze cannon, its nothing compared to that!
thats the guy from halfsword
Nope and i am too afraid to ask not to trigger their ptsd
But they are planning for a full carriage for the cannon so it can be drawn by horses on events
beautiful late gothic armour too bad its from 1480
understandable
it was made for him in mind
Hey, i am not wrong with this right?
Greatsword and war sword are literally the same thing
Because i have argued this before long time ago
yes
Okay good, because someone is trying to argue they aren't
I told them War sword was a more english term, they also got called "Great sword of war" or just "Grete Sworde"
Then wtf is the difference
Majority of swords are wars words so tbh I don't really like this term
He spammed dafuq out of me 😭
Longer longsword.
That's quite the video game logic
Not based on anything
Iicr Germans used to call great swords "battle swords" but like, they're still swords
I could be wrong but this stems from 13th and 14th century english terminology (This is iffy and I can't find much sources on that.)
schlachtschwert
if i remember the spelling
Yeah something like that
Didn't want to butcher the spelling
i hope i didnt
Because it's always smart not to use a term in a language you're not comfortable with
Looking at all "plankon" and "bed du corbin" people
Fuck it, name the Plançon, Plankton
beckter corban
This one was elite
tru
I wanna know, what do they think a greatsword is
Don’t worry about the Germans themselves butchered the spelling 😹
Andre paurenfeydt spells it in a way I can’t even begin to recall
Source : I made it up
schizobabble
Yeah well at least I DIDNT
Source: Fromsoft games said so
same type of people that will tell you that "epee" is a kind of sword
Longer longsword is hilarious
That's like calling a longsword a longer arming sword
swords are a spectrum
or that arbalest is a specific form of crossbow
hate that
when does the longsword stops and the warsword begins
medieval enthusiasts upon learning a new french word
I feel like they started understand it when they got to like certain points where the blade is hella long but unable to be sheathed well
This is a pain to read just because of the spamming lol
110 hours in EA already 😭 that's like double what i had in the demo in months lmao
based, be a chad and make up your own classifications
hello
Remember the chunky silk cord I made a few weeks back? This is what it was for. Late 15th century Burgundian coat, with matching brow band, to be worn over armour. Thanks to Jay Maxwell for the photos of the first try out, before the cord was added in.

am i nuts or bifurcated gauntlets?
Yeah bifurcated gauntlets, also gilded mail
Actually idk, it kinda looks like they're separate mail fingers
What's that
Based - does the plackart serve a function if it's riveted to the demi cuirass?
I'm tempted to say that they might just be decorative
If you look at the side pictures it's clearly meant to articulate
Ah icic
demi cuirass ?
i can’t say that makes any more sense to me but the rivets are sliding rivets, so they do move, not decorative

Why do you have gloves for the teenage mutant ninja turtles
That is literally just tmnt gloves wtf 😭
i thought he was a willie
Wait so the eppe is not a sword!?
épée means sword
it's not a type of sword
(except in olympic fencing i think)
So when they are adding the eppe in half sword?!
?
Will they add it?
yeah shut up
You can sort of make a thin blade longsword in weapon crafting
Epee is like
a super bendable and very thin fencing sword
In the modern age yes, it's also that
But first and foremost, épée means sword
thats what I am referring to with that
and Epees are "new" in terms of swords
In everyday language, épée just means sword
No, it's just a different language than english
In french 15th century sources, all swords are called épée
i am once more talking about modern
I know the word
but like i mean, the FENCING SWORD itself is "newer"
The fencing sword is called like that because french fencers just called it sword back then
Just like the way a "bullet" isn't a ball anymore
Yet it's still called a bullet (boulette)
Same here, if we don't talk about the hyper specific sport setting of fencing, épée= sword
"Second half of the 15th century, Eastern Sweden"
1450-1499, possibly Westphalian
i have a suggestion i think there should be a toggle for the hair, i like when the willies are bald. and also can you bring back the old blood and the old menu why fix what was never broken you know ?
mid-late 15th century, Mälardalen
Look at those foulds
is this considered as kastenbrust or not i forgor about it again lol
We don't get a side view but I believe its a normal globose breastplate
its a kastenbrust
do we have decent records of this era of pottery? like what kinds of ceramics exist... maybe for an art project...
Grab 3 meters of wool cloth, some thread and needle and make it. These things are easy af, as them being long and broad usually hides any problems with the pattern. You can look for Medieval Tailors Assisstant for start, there is pdf free somewhere.
And decent material can be ordered from Woolsome, for start. It's a project for one weekend and a decent entry into sewing your kit
When and where? It's quite regional thing, as the source material differs. Some special stuff is more spread from the area of origin (like siegburg pottery, italian maiollica or Loštice cup)
This is a decent start for Medieval pottery in Bohemia. I suspect other places will have other works like that;)

I ment in-game but thank you for the website
Absolutely something i haven’t thought about. I was thinking about it wheel throwing some works but this may be even more interesting to see at traditional construction styles even
Is it just me or does that man have incredibly long arms
yeah
i think he just has short legs ngl
give us dark straw

This would be very rare wouldn't it?
As furnaces and stuff aren't as powerful as today
you'd be surprised
what if he wasnt suprised
This portrait is from the XVI century
Here's a probable period depiction of him #1447306092957663424 message
I've also made this quick drawing based on that painting btw
Oh ok
ramsay2710 made this cuirass based off of Saint Michael from Bartolome Bermejo's painting (1468)

What is this of?
A mod for bannerlord, dell'arte della guerra,
hasent released yet
Aw man I was hoping this was for Halfsword full release, but still amazing!
How the Tower of London staff looks at you after you bring the 3rd girl in the same week
yeah absolutely. it would make so much sense though to find more of this kind of stuff in abyss mode though. it would encourage taking high risk by fighting in abyss to get high end gear
abyss was actually where I got my first proper bit of armour
oh yeah it is good for gear but it stresses me out. pretty scary ngl. i maxed out the entire game and beat everything and even pretty much dug out the depths to death in searching for blue armor. but i never found it. found out the full set was never released. which is why i quit
oops (ping)-
yeah it is annoying how the tempered and blued armour still hasn't been completed as a set
Yes and i have high hopes for the update that fleshes out armor crafting
i just dont get why gold baren armor is half weight as normal steel. gold is like 4 times heavier in real life
unless its gilded
i really got nearly every armor in the game but no blue armor
i just wish
😭
it is
Oh I see
bro i thought this shit was garrys mod lmfao
for some reason the blued armor variants are extremely rare
ive only ever found vambraces or cuisses
what’s the purpose of a knot at the nape on doublets? can’t post pictures here but it appears a lot in art in this timeframe 1450-70
whuh
lace fastening to allow for a tighter fit without needing buttons
That's because the full set isn't out yet
rip
Is the thing on the breastplate belt for holding it & plackart together?
Are you talking about the large buckle, or the belt itself?
Large buckle
yes
yes
Got it, man that’s a big belt buckle lol
the "belt" here attaches the placard and breastplate
yeah I wouldn't usually make it that big but in the original painting that thing is huge lol
I need to refresh my memory on what the first breastplate is based off of
nvm its breastplate CH S37
"made around 1470 and in the upper middle area bears marks that refer to Zanetto Ferrari, an armorer from Brescia."
ferrari always been making masterworks as evidenced by this
this is exceptionally amusing to me
Flamberge blades (don't mind the hilts, talking about the blade type which were a thing for many centuries, including the time of Half Sword)

Do we have an actual source from the period showing wavy blades tho?
couldnt find one fast, but they are mentioned in texts from the 12th to 16th century
thats a wack date
How? (are they mentioned)
12th and 15th century texts according to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flamberge
16th century (landsknecht zweihanders) according to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flame-bladed_sword
A flamberge (also floberge, froberge, and other variations) is a medieval sword. Swung by a number of heroes of chansons de geste and romances, the name became a generic name for a large sword.
In earlier texts, the name is usually given as "floberge" or "froberge" (Italian: fusberta or frusberta), but the name developed under the influence of t...
A flame-bladed sword or wave-bladed sword has a characteristically undulating style of blade. The wave in the blade is often considered to contribute a flame-like quality to the appearance of a sword. The dents on the blade can appear parallel or in a zig-zag manner. The two most common flame-bladed swords are rapiers or Zweihänders. A flame-bl...
wikipedia
yes
Yeah the wiki gets a few things incorrect to be fair
these days wikipedia is not that bad, click through the sources I guess
wikipedia is not very reliable imo
the oldest like wavy blades I can think of, is some weird Manuscripts showing French two hand falchions but those weren't too wavy and often times they are showed for "Evil" armies and people
From the first link :
The term is a frequent name or alias for swords in medieval chansons de geste and romances, where it often just means a large sword
and never actually were to be taken literal in a sense
but flamberge quickly became a disdainful term in France to refer to flamboyant swords. This comes from the French expression "Mettre flamberge au vent", meaning "To put [the sword] in the wind". Here, it is suggested that the wielder of the sword likened it to the mythical sword Durendal, which alternatively was called flamberge
this
Idk seems to me that nothing really points toward wavy blades before the ~mid 16thc
especially since they would be pretty marvelous anywhere before the 16th century, it'd be very likely there'd be extants
surely there are a bunch of surviving blades from that period, hence I pointed to texts for my other sources. But if you guys think it is spurious evidence I don't have the knowledge to argue
or artistic depiction
I havent seen an extant with that kind of blade from the 12th century-15th
there is not a single one im almost certain of that
id have to agree
and no depictions in art that fit the usual image of a "flamberge"
its not impossible i guess, but theres no evidence
its very unscholarly to reference those blades being used from 12th century to 15th
Like what Kevlar said, a lot of the times you see a weird fucking weapon in a manuscript, its often just artist trying to show something like a evil army in a religious context or smthing
as there isnt a legit source for an extant or depiction in art of one to begin with
me
my bad should have taken more time to research
i stole sams gif
we welcome your Spirit and Resolve good man . Godspeed in future
btw
all good things
i suspect the curvy falchions in that instance is an attempt to depict easterners
no idea on that one
maybe?
and by easterners i mean arabs, at least this specific one
there a manuscript i sent depicting poland, that had some weird falchions iirc
easterners
I have this one too but honestly I can't remember what its depicting
no falchion, but a super weird pollaxe?
I can imagine some witness saying they have curvy swords and the artist letting his imagination run wild
where
whatever this thing is
I wouldnt say this is necessarily "weird"
Well, is it a Pollaxe?
probably depends on who you ask
was gonna say
i would call it a halberd because it seems pretty long and round-shafted
which is generally associated with the term
pollaxes are generally understood to be the height of the user or a bit less in most contexts and fashioned with languets (except for the earliest cases) rather than a socket
the bardiche and Halberd argument happened again, don't remind meh

this time the person had a source so 🤷
show (if you dont mind)
agree
very much a halberd
falls into the same trap that most people do where he considers a localized form of a weapon to be a different weapon entirely, its a sort of paradox
the terms become so broad the more you look into it as well
i will also mention this book seems to buy into the whole 'whack le armor with the pollax' thing
which is not a point in its favor
i assumed this book he pulled from originated from a Victorian era book
also it claims that pollaxes are universal when a man-at-arms fights on foot, and there is no data on this iirc
Guys off topic but what do your animated colorful names mean?
the argument is that since it looks somewhat different and was called a regional term in the place it was primarily used in it's a separate thing entirely, but it's counterintuitive to give everything a regional name based on where it was used more frequently - the truth is that in the early development of "both" the bardiche and the halberd, they would've looked the same and the terms would only differ based on what place the person viewing it was from
scribe, researched people able to lock or delete posts in the sister channel of this one that is thread based
"one could batter an armored opponent all day with a sword without making the least impression on him"
lmaooooooo
Thanks
idk if im reading this right
wdym
its basically falling into the old myth of 'swords are useless against armored people' because the author does not understand how they were used in an armored fight
gotcha thats what I thought at first
I had a stroke reading it too many times
" without making the least impression on him"
what i hear a lot of rly
is the whole
militus had a stroke reading that
"Swords were only rly used as a culture thing"
I've never heard that one before
yeah where did you read that?
oh its definitely a thing, i've even heard the sword was worn in the 15th century for 'religious superstition' lol
in one of alex the history guy's videos actually
yeah i heard that one recently
for religious reasons
it just boils down to a misunderstanding of how swords were used with the advent of plate harness and such. i've heard stuff like 'mail armor made swords obsolete', they were ceremonial, and at best they were a 'good dueling weapon' rather than a weapon of war
there is a bunch of sword combat manuscripts or ingeneral manuscripts depiciting armored combat in some form with a sword being used, and a lot of the time it shows what we actually know as fact: Half swording or Mordschlag, either the knight with half sword has the sword rammed up into the other knight groin as we see in some manuscripts depicting medieval combat
or the man using mordschlag bashing him over the side of the head
tbh i'd believe it was more common to just stab at the gaps rather than relying on mordschlag but i'm not too well read on it
sounds like a misunderstanding of swords 'sometimes' being used for cerimonial/religious reasons
and then bastardizing that into 'always'
or only
i mean they were absolutely a status symbol but also a very effective weapon
just like how some armors are extravagantly ornate but still functional
nah def agree
oh no, i wasn't saying mordschlag was effective, because its effectiveness is def questionable.
i think a lot of manuscripts involving armored combat, depict mordschlag as sometimes working in a way that how in some manuscripts axes cleave through armor like butter.
I think Mordschlag def could've worked to some degree, but I doubt it could like smash someone over the helmet and cave in alongside their head like it was foam
Billions must witness Perspective
vouge
It is important to note that most techniques of the short sword (including mordschlag/tunrschlag) weren’t used as direct striking but as wrenching or leveraging
So even in Talhoffer where we see the mordschlag, it is mostly used on the weapon of the opponent to wrench it away, or to trip them at the ankles, etc.
You could maybe say mordschlag is a lead into normal short swording techniques, by enabling leverage and wrestling.
Actually poleaxe
glaive
fauchard
big swingy thing
Pointy stick
very much already in game
Yall need to add (extremely obscure weapon not even in time period) and if you don't I will eat all the devs
no
yeah wtf
Mustard sword
Pretty sure no
no
Is it from Dijon?
yesterday i logged off and today i js entered and it made me redo my player and i lost everything i had in that game
why is that
Did medieval military writers wrote about sword blade types at all?
😂
?
How we (YES WE) will be pulling up to the buhurt the second blued armor fully releases
just for info, second, fourth and last img aren't from the game's time period
and the last image isn't blued
and pretty sure the third isn't blued either
Oh shucks. Mb
Does anyone have any information about how much overlap maille standards usually have on the back (as in, where they are closed) when worn?
There's no evidence of clothing hanging on lines across streets as we see in the game till centuries later 😉
https://fakehistoryhunter.net/2025/11/15/origins-of-the-clothes-peg-and-the-practice-of-hanging-lines-across-streets/
There's no evidence of chopping wood with blocks as we see in the game till centuries later 😉
https://fakehistoryhunter.net/2025/11/16/when-did-people-start-using-a-chopping-block-for-firewood/
@vestal egret feel free to post similar content in a#1444450859902697566 thread-post too
'pprecite the dilligence
Will do 😉
What period do you think the armor in the second image could be from? Wouldn't everything fit besides the helmet and gorget?
it's a fairly well "developed" helmet, i'd go as far as to say 1540 or so
especially with the wolf's teeth decorations on the other parts i think that supports the ballpark
Yes that's what I had in mind, the rest of the armor looks like it would fit in the halfsword timeline (or at least wouldn't stray far from it)
sry was playing arma
yeah what cama said
does a visor like that really show up in the thun sketchbook ??
ay but das a different visor than the one in the original batch'a'picturs..
its this visor which threw me off so greatly because of how much closer it is to way more 16th century designs
he says in the comments of one of his insta posts that the harness is 1490-1510, and that's with this visor on
