even No Mans Sky during it's redemption arc had a decent amount of communication and interaction
The simplest reason being is that it makes it impossible to give feedback on potential new changes, which has it's upsides and downsides
vacuum-work prevents outside contamination of the "developers vision"; which is how they intend the game to be, which can be massively beneficial for passion projects
at the same time it runs the gigantic risk of the delivered update/product not being what the playerbase wants, which can lead to even more work down the line to fix something that could have been prevented entirely
Steam Reviews exist to give user feedback, and user feedback is currently "the devs have not told us shit in almost two months", which is entirely valid criticism, it's whiney, sure, but I see why people do it

The devs could put out a standing statement with a "Hey, this is what we've been working on" and I imagine a lot of these complaints would disappear outright because it'd prove they're atleast still working on the game, and thats what a majority of people I've seen complaining on steam have mentioned
