it pushes through the plate and pierces through the chainmail by going through the holes in the chainmail, but the rest of the chainmail and plate around it stops it dead in its tracks unless you had a mechanical trap system like say the wood logs in the hall map
If you hit the head you would kill someone
But the chestplate has space between the chest and the plate, then theres the chainmail which is tough against piercing and especially slashing, and then you have the arming doublet underneath which is usually minimally padded but should suffice against a beak. But i guess maybe the barons beak is made out of tungsten or some shit lol maybe its got a diamond tip who knows

Longer blade is not heavier, you have to play around with the balance stick. If the sword balances straight on the stick lower to your guard it will swush less but hit like a truck

Yes. You can speak to the guy who you rest with and use the 'retire' option. It sends you back to the character creation menu. You can use the background slider to choose your rank and set it to beggar. The next couple rounds will show high rank options but after that it should reset
