I think it's a bug tbh. It's so weird and broken looking that I just don't believe it's an intentional change. Hopefully it's fixed soon it's most noticable with long weapons you grip low, like big swords and 2 handed axes

keep your distance, keep shift held down, bait their attack if they have a weapon then punish. Use flail or two handed axe. Don't let them get close to bite you. If they get you down, try kicking/grabbing to keep them away and get up quicker

1. flail has midrange and is actually really good at hitting your enemy before they hit you
2. if you can hit in the head well, you knock them out almost instantly and dont kill them, so you dont have to save your soul
   especially for begger/peasant rank, flail is really, really good if you dont want to kill so you dont have to go to the abyss to save your soul
