the standard grip on a pitchfork is already about right for a proper thrust.. he just needs to rotate his upper body 90 degrees, and maybe, maybe move his forward hand 5 - 10 cm down from the tip of the weapon

Don't think so, you could map the mouse input to do that but the game's partial controller support already has camera movement so i think it might be a bit buggy.

Halfsword, begin throw, release left hand, then release right hand. The timing in beginning the throw and releasing your left hand is really tight so it's kinda difficult
With a sword you can just undo the halfsword to release your left hand, but with a spear you have to grab with your left hand
