and they say that the armour is heavy, but once its on the harness and on your body you only feel it when you overexert yourself, and you can balance a sword on a single finger

i think it just gives better point control all around, hense being better for thrusts and defense. for me it gets vague for polearms n such that tend to be drawn back more than forward

generally speaking you want your weapon where it presents a threat and gives you the ability to defend. There are some sword guards where your threat of a swing is the focus, but with how quick the AI can be sometimes you have to refine that as well

in 3rd person I learned to usually keep the sword away/behind me and focus on spacing to avoid being hit and counter

it works well for me, im not sure what the term is for it but when you strike the enemy and block an incoming attack at the same time is the main goal from that fighting position

Youd be better off using proper guards in that case. First one here is an ox guard, second one is the fools guard. Both work very well. What youre describing is called the tail guard, which is accurate but like all guards they have their weak points.

of those i use tail guard, high guard, and another called 'stone guard' which is basically plow guard but with the sword pointed straight up

exactly, saber fencing taught me a lot of parries that flip the sword in that twirly motion, its not a major thing but the game just lacks that level of flexibility

there is kenjutsu sparring but it's rarer and you need a different type of sword to do it from how vicious it gets

ive applied some of that and tried to replicate Kendo positions and techniques since getting the katana mod, cause why not i enjoy trying to use different styles, learned some basic spanish fencing after i found the rapier mods too

kendo is good for scoring points and hits (and a LOT of headshots)

lots of emphasis on speed and simplicity
