It creates openings fine, but its not meant to be used as a shield in the basic sense. Use it as more of a deflector or a parry rather than a solid blocker, or even an extra blunt weapon and you do fine. The moment I hear that ping of their weapon clashing against it is when I attack.

Itll always kind of go out at an angle because of elbows. Willie isnt good at linear stabs unless you have a shield to push against or its an offhand ive noticed. Like this. But yes! Alt stabs are more handy for distant stabs. But in First person, double click stabs are a lot more accurate since usually your stab goes directly where the center of your screen is or at a slight angle from it.

You can get those occasionally, id still call it a thrust due to the way the weapon moves. Kind of like this, no double click stab or alt mode here. But the way the weapon moved and he moved into it ended up with it being a thrust.

To stab, you have to hold alt and pull back, then when you see it line up push foward full send

Stabbing Advice 🔪

When stabbing with alt (with swords), pull your weapon in closer to your body as opposed to extending your elbow out. It's much more accurate and stable.

Alternatively If it's a two handed weapon it is recommended to hold right click first, then drag your mouse to aim the weapon. Then from there double click and hold left mouse (you can try alt a little as well but clicking is more stable)
This is a much more stable and accurate stabbing pose, and a proper halfsword thrusting stance.

To practice your aiming, there's two different ways you can keep your FOV.
Third Person- with Low FOV, so you get a closer view.
or alternatively;
First Person- with High FOV, so you get a wide view of your weapon and it's positioning.
