I find it’s easiest to push the spear away in not half sword then run at the polearm user, take 1 swing while in normal grip then switch to half sword while directly in front of the polearm user and start trying to stab them

Against longer weapons you don’t have much of a choice, taking damage to get the polearm is alright because once you have the polearm you can get through the rest of the enemies mostly damageless by abusing range advantage

Yeah, short weapons are unfortunate because they’re harder to beat and less useful. For pitchforks the user seems to like stabbing it out all the way so if you bait that then push it a bit then you have an open opportunity to do a few knife slashes
