if weapon small : try to keep your swings in a way where the weapon doesn't over-extend past your torso (keep it centered so tight slight flicks to swing)

for edge alignment: you can try clicking to swing and then letting go, it will keep the edge alignment without moving it as you swing

Thats what turning the gore down reduces. It makes it more difficult to dismember. You can bring it down to about 20% and still get all the effects without over the top dismemberment
