As lame as it sounds, just practice.

Getting a feel for your weapon and then looking for an opening in the enemy.

If you use first person it's a bit easier, I don't really do first person though, so since my stabs will usually be less presice I use them kind of defensively and keep my enemy at a distance, finding an opening to stab them if possible.

Or just to finish them with style.

Also worth mentioning that opponent Willie tends to be very perceptive towards stabs and will almost always deflect them if he can

Willies suck at reading your range, if there is one fatal flaw in the AI, that ranks in the top 3 for sure

the other flaw that's up there is probably their inability to react to grip switching. Seems impossible for them to do well against it, especially at high speeds

combine that with range and they can't put up a fight

They don't have to fight like a human, but it'd be nice if they could fix their really bad areas like detecting your range and grip switching

When you hit a certain level, Willies can't challenge you anymore. The only option really is to turn down the damage you do to them, which is what I do.

Not to say they can't get a lucky one in on you, but it's not a common occurrence.

Settings, game, "gore" turn the "blood" slider all the way down to the left. Note this is separate from the gore setting you pick when you start the game, this won't effect dismemberments or how easily you are cut

Reducing gore will affect how often dismemberments happen and basically damage dealt/received, so you dont want to really touch that if you want to preserve how the game feels. It seems that turning off blood is usually enough
