Half Sword isn't that hard to learn, it's complex but it's a matter of setting your mind to something and focusing on it.

I didn't bother to learn auto-parry really until recently, and it was just a few hours to get used to it.
Quality over quantity time in the game is king

The Samurai vs. Knight debate is easily explained when put into historical perspective.

Japan did not do much expanding or fight a large variety of foes, their technology for weapons and armor basically stagnated because most of the time they were putting down peasant rebellions.

European technology for weapon and armor was vastly far ahead due to the amount of conquests, wars, and variety of foes they fought wielding differenet armaments.

European weaponsmiths were practically wizards compared to Japanese ones. The katana and samurai armor was fine, for killing other samurai and peasants. But the European armaments were varied and advanced to suit a variety of different nations

Expect the knight or samurai spent years training and actually fighting To the death or not I wouldn't call it a source for the most part
Knights started training at 14 as squires then at 21 they usually became knights
I doubt this can be used as a source to say who would win

it wouldnt do that against the flat side though, we gotta remember that cutting from the edge and cutting from the large flat front are way different

the difference between plate and brigandine is that you can don and doff brigandine by yourself, where with plate armor youll need a SQUIRE!
