You can parry with the sword most easily using lmb and slow mo. You can follow up with dagger stabs using 2xrmb

That was indeed a nice parry. But why did it work?

Swinging the sword fully from side to side leaves you wide open, and increases the time for you to get your sword where it needs to be, when it needs to be there.

The parry in the opening of the video was a short movement. The right arm was tucked in, and swing was able to get where it needed to be.

Keep that up! Keeping your movements closer to the center line, and not ending as far from it as possible will give you a whole lot better of a chance to nailing a parry.
