maybe a stupid question, but what is the upside to holding a polearm, like the class 8 poleaxe, in the alt grip? Alt grip being the stance where you left click once and go from a neutral stance to a readied stance

I know with a LS it makes it easier to hold center and parry most attacks, but I can't figure out the benefit in class 8

like does the alt stance make sideways/diagonal attacks from that side faster or give them more juice in any way

I like to be defensive, and patient. Find where I can dip to the left or right to slip passed the head of the spear and close the distance.

If they are swinging at me, a well timed block/deflection/parry will get you in close where you can control the fight

Pitchfork and Short Spear are both rough to fight against. They are very stable reach weapons, which makes their strikes especially dangerous.

Now I know I am playing with a Long Sword, where someone fighting against a Pitch Fork may not have one, but this can be done with an Axe, or w/e. This is how I aim to fight against reach weapons.

Parrying is for some reason a lot easier against polearms and smaller single hand weapons but longswords is slightly harder

I think it comes down to force. 1H are light weight. And reach weapons can be "wobbly" But a long sword has good weight and control. The parry has to be just as controlled and weighted.

I think it depends more on how this game physics work, because realistically speaking no one here has actually parried properly against a polearms when they are swung because the game conceives them as "overly heavy" weapons and it just powers through your attack and pushes you to the ground

halberds are easy to fight against

Its weird like that for sure.

I like to single click the right mouse button. That brings the shield up. Alternating holding the shield high or low is the best I can do to make it effective.

I can map keyboard keys to my mouse via the corsair app.

I changed right click to a left side mouse button. Right click is my Grip Switch.

What this does for me, is make the left button on the side my left hand and the normal Left Click to be my right hand. It fixes this in my brain because by default Left is right and right is left.

You also need to learn how to use half swording and stabbing in order to achieve the movements you want.

You can use stabbing to also enter guard stances/ for certain weapons, it allows you to do a quick chop to the center of the body
