It also allows you to dodge, its because one of the basics of HEMA is if you're going to attack you do it with your body weight behind you. So the principle is to move forward with your strike, unless of course its a counterattack

oh yeah i forgot to mention, if you wanna focus on parrys without having to restart a bunch, you can turn the damage to 0 making you invincible besides decapitations

I'm just practicing on greatsword dude in gauntlet rn

usually I just get injured not die and then I give up and try again

Funny enough during playtest I did it the opposite way, (maybe im a masochist) I had my damage near max and theirs on low. So I had more time to practice parries, and was punished for not parrying right.

You dont have to, but I tend to switch to halfsword once they get to close to be able to protect myself better.

It takes practice but with enough tries you'll eventuall find the arcs of your swings. Just keep at it.
