Polearms are neat against solo opponents, I've found the spiky one especially useful against multiple though.
I usually halfsword it and run up to them.

I have no regrets with my purchase. The story mode is very much incomplete, but the sword play is top notch. One blow is usually the deciding factor between winning or losing. Also keyboard controls aren't to bad if you do a little customizing, but it does work more intuitively at first with a controller

If you have a weapon that you can halfsword (holding with both hands horizontally), you can use it to go under the weapon and push it up above you or below you. This works against all polearms and weapons when they're pointed straight at you.
