X swaps your hands, F is to toggle lock-on, V swaps between first person camera, holding alt allows you to enter alternate poses, mainly stabbing with your mouse, right click with most weapons in your primary hand will "halfsword" (holding it sideways). You can do a variety of things with the weapon from here.

Double clicking left mouse will stab the weapon forward. Holding shift will put you into a fencing stance, when you hold shift and tap W A S D, you'll weave in any direction, or sprint if you hold the keys. Ctrl is to crouch.

I think I covered most of them.

We technically have a zweihander in the game already. What you're familiar with is the ricasso and two spikes (I forget the name of them 😞) that really "define" what people know as a zweihander. It's just a Greatsword, but the generic 16th century design for greatswords. The ricasso and spikes, along with the fancy hilt were not a design choice until the mid 16th century, so unfortunately we likely won't be seeing that style in this game, since it's set in 1450-1480

Stabbing Advice 🔪

When stabbing with alt (with swords), pull your weapon in closer to your body as opposed to extending your elbow out. It's much more accurate and stable.

Alternatively If it's a two handed weapon it is recommended to hold right click first, then drag your mouse to aim the weapon. Then from there double click and hold left mouse (you can try alt a little as well but clicking is more stable)
This is a much more stable and accurate stabbing pose, and a proper halfsword thrusting stance.

To practice your aiming, there's two different ways you can keep your FOV.
Third Person- with Low FOV, so you get a closer view.
or alternatively;
First Person- with High FOV, so you get a wide view of your weapon and it's positioning.

Overhead swings with one handed weapons are also just strange. Tend to not be able to generate as much impact compared to getting a good side swing and hitting them in the side of the temple.

Like, is there a coherent way to aim them? Because as it stands, it feels like stab attacks will just flop anywhere within a certain radius and that's about it, even if it's absolutely off mark.

Stabbing Advice 🔪

When stabbing with alt (with swords), pull your weapon in closer to your body as opposed to extending your elbow out. It's much more accurate and stable.

Alternatively If it's a two handed weapon it is recommended to hold right click first, then drag your mouse to aim the weapon. Then from there double click and hold left mouse (you can try alt a little as well but clicking is more stable)
This is a much more stable and accurate stabbing pose, and a proper halfsword thrusting stance.

To practice your aiming, there's two different ways you can keep your FOV.
Third Person- with Low FOV, so you get a closer view.
or alternatively;
First Person- with High FOV, so you get a wide view of your weapon and it's positioning.

Hold it down, it should sort of adjust your weapon to face the enemy's, but honestly you're better off parrying yourswlf

The passive parry shouldnt be relied on. It just moves your weapon in the direction of the strike, you will have to practice active parries.

If you try passive parrying without it, doesnt work well at all. Also this video is kind of old, the AI has gotten a lot better. Passive parrying isn't as effective anymore.

So make sure your mouse sensitivity is low. (I have mine around the o in mouse on the control screen). Allows you more control over your weapon. Practice by turning down your damage to yourself and the enemy as well and get a feel for it. It's a lot of trial and error.

Hence the turning down damage to yourself and enemies, so more room for trying. You can keep the AI at bay by using stab mode (holding alt) they will shell up. Giving you more of a chance to attack.

It doesn't work like it used too anymore, the AI has improved. All passive parrying is at the current moment, is the game automatically moves your weapon in the direction the game thinks the enemy weapon is coming from.

No you aren't getting it. You dont have to do anything for passive parrying. Hold left click with your weapon, you'll see Willie moves the weapon automatically. But he wont actually deflect or parry it. Think of it is an auto aim.

The only way to properly defend yourself is practicing actual parrying. Getting a feel for the AI. The AI has tendencies same as people IRL. You'll learn from experience what way they're probably going to swing. Which is what I'm trying to show in the few clips i've sent. You HAVE to move your mouse and swat their weapon away.

Ah. Well it's the practice game then. Tweak the damage settings a bit, it's frustrating at first but you WILL get better at it. It's just the AI is too aggressive to allow sword locking and blocks in the sense that you're thinking. You can catch a strike on your weapon, but more often than not they're going to swing their weapon back or chain attack and end you.

the pproblem with first person is , its not like really being there with a sword, because our eyes arnt properly doing their thing AND in a game we have no propriception i.e tan awareness of our body in space, (unless your someone who lost/ was born without that sense of course)

hence the issue of wanting to try the very armoured tiers in first poerson to try out the vision nullification of the helmet

Stabbing Advice 🔪

When stabbing with alt (with swords), pull your weapon in closer to your body as opposed to extending your elbow out. It's much more accurate and stable.

Alternatively If it's a two handed weapon it is recommended to hold right click first, then drag your mouse to aim the weapon. Then from there double click and hold left mouse (you can try alt a little as well but clicking is more stable)
This is a much more stable and accurate stabbing pose, and a proper halfsword thrusting stance.

To practice your aiming, there's two different ways you can keep your FOV.
Third Person- with Low FOV, so you get a closer view.
or alternatively;
First Person- with High FOV, so you get a wide view of your weapon and it's positioning.

Like I said practice makes perfect. You really have to get a feel for the physics and wonkiness of movements in its current state. I've seen some people destroy with the arming sword, a lot of arming sword mains in here (probably sleeping rn).
