depends on your rig tbh. I've found that with vsync off, my clips will lag a TON for some reason in halfsword, so I keep it on.

VSYNC typically helps to eliminate screen tearing at the cost of some frames, if memory recalls

VSync syncs the framerate to your monitor's refresh rate or something that divides evenly from it. So if your monitor is 60Hz it'll lock the framerate at 60 fps max, but if your framerate goes below that it'll dip down to 30 fps.

This is to prevent screen tearing, where you see two desynced images like this

(I might be off on the dividing part, but that's what I remember it doing years ago. I just disable it in everything.)
